I resisted the urge to roll my eyes as Snape continued on with his lecture. The man has been going at it for over an hour already. Even Dumbledore didn't make such a fuss.
"On weeks worth of detention." He snapped.
I raised a brow, hoping it was finally over. "It's that it?"
"Where were you?" He asked for the eighth time. "Where did you go?"
"That is none of your concern professor." I replied. "I have explained my reasons and whereabouts to Professor Dumbledore. So if you have finished and sentence my punishment, I will be off to my next class." Leaving him with his thoughts, I rushed down the corridor.
Somewhere along the way, I had a minor detour to the restroom. Having spilled my breakfast out, I washed my mouth and headed out. This was getting worse. It was bad enough I wasn't able to hold anything down, but doing it alone was worse. I knew it was a bad idea, but I needed my friend and sister with me.
Placing my hand on the handle, I took in a deep breath and pulled the door open. 'Great, I forgot I had Ron as my partner in this class.' Ron glanced over his shoulder to me, a scowl on his face. 'It's just 30 minutes Athena.'
"Nice of you to show up." Ron scoffed. "Thought I'd have to do all the work."
I raised a brow, dropping my books on the table. "Since when do you do any work?" Seeing the eye roll, I smirked. "Exactly." The class itself was quick and boring. Ron did everything he could to avoid speaking to me, but then again, I don't blame him. I did threaten to rip his arm off. The moment class was over, I grabbed Hermione and dragged her out with me.
"What's going on?" Hermione whispered, trying to keep up with me. "Athena?"
"I'm pregnant."
Hermione stopped, gaping at me. "What?"
"Don't make me repeat it." I mumbled. "I couldn't hold it in anymore."
"So you tell me?!" She whispered/yelled. "Shouldn't you be telling Sirius?"
"Are you insane?!" I yelped. "How the hell am I suppose to tell him?"
"Like you told me?" She retorted back. "How far along are you?"
"Uhh, 5-6 months I think." I hate to admit I had lost count. "I found out that day you took me to the nurses."
Hermione's mouth dropped. "How are you not showing?!"
"Spell and potions." Leaning against the wall, I slid down. "I don't know how the hell to tell him. Hermione if this gets out, I don't know what will happen to my baby."
She slid down beside me, taking my hand in hers. "You think Voldemort will hurt it?"
"That monster won't hesitate."
"We need to come clean." She stated, quickly stopping me from cutting her off. "Athena, you have been doing this alone for too long. I have seen the change and so have you."
"Hermione, I can't." I looked down at our entwined hands. "I will not allow Harry, you, or anyone I love to get hurt. Not again and not by me."
"You can't do this alone!" She scoffed, jumping to her feet. "You are with child. We can help you." Crouching in front of me, she took my hands in her once more. "Whatever you have done for them, it is affecting you. You are not the same. I don't want to lose you."
Looking into her eyes, I was surprised to find fear and desperation. I have never seen her like this. "Alright. Alright, Hermione. You win."
'Fuck Athena, what are you doing?!'
"Really?" She breathes a sigh of relief.
"Yes." I replied. "Find a time where we can all be at Sirius's place. No one but the Weasleys and us. I can't risk it."
"Alright." Her smile was enough to illuminate the damn hallways. "I'll get a letter out to Remus for help." Helping me off the ground, she placed her hand on my belly. "Do you know if it's a girl or boy?"
"No, I haven't asked." Glancing down, I grinned. "I am actually hoping for a boy."
"I want a girl." Hermione chuckled. "We are outnumbered as it is and you want to add another boy?"
"They are easier to handle." I gestured between us. "Look how we turned out."
"Boy, it is."
Time jump:
While Hermione went off to potions, I headed back to the dormitory. I found Malfoy sitting on the couch. "Shouldn't you be in class?"
"Shouldn't you?" He snarled back.
"Free period." Tossing my bag onto the couch, I dropped down beside him. "What's got you in a sour mood? Well more than normal."
"Nothing that concerns you."
I scoffed. "As long as you stay alive and don't do anything stupid, then your right. It doesn't concern me. I am going to be in the courtyard."
"You think we can pull it off?" He whispered.
I stopped, glancing down at him. "For our sake, we must."
"What's that suppose to mean?" He asked.
I shook my head. "Nothing. Just make sure everything is going smoothly. We can't afford to mess this up."
"You are too calm for what was asked of us." Draco snipped. "Can you really do it?"
"May I remind you that the only reason I would need to do it, is if you fail to do so." I stated. "But if it comes down to it, yes." That was a lie. "It's nothing but a wave of your wand."
"Yeah." He muttered. "A wave of the wand."
Time jump:
I sat on the bleachers with Hermione. We were currently watching Harry, Ron, and Ginny on the tryouts for quidditch. Although my attention was more on the letter Hermione received from Remus.
"So he wants to do this tomorrow?" I re-read the letter for the eighth time. "I can't tomorrow."
"You promised." Hermione snapped.
"I know and I am not backing out, but I have things to do with Draco." I motioned to the boy a few rows down. "I can't be away from him." Seeing the look on her face, I groaned. "Fine tomorrow."
"Perfect, I'll let Remus know." She scrunched up the letter, chanting a spell and causing it to shred to pieces. "What's up with you and Draco anyway?"
"I was ordered to watch over him. He is my charge in a way."
"Who else knows of the baby?" She whispered.
I shrugged. "Eva and David, Dumbledore, the nurse and now you"
"Sirius is going to be really upset." She elaborated at seeing my confusion. "Everyone, but he knows."
"I know and I really hope he understands." I wrapped my arms around my stomach. "I don't really know what I will do with he or she gets here. I can't keep the baby with me, at least not until this is over."
"I am sure you and Sirius can think of something." Hermione offered.
"Yeah."
Time jump:
After having spoken to Dumbledore, he had given us the day to do what we must. With the promise of doing the missed work on the weekend. I can just hear Ron complaining already. Well after he and the others find out about the rest and complained about that. Waiting for the girls to leave the dormitory, she took a shower and changed. Glancing at the clock over the door frame, I winced at seeing I was now late. Although in a way, I was lagging. Every time I was ready to step out, I would make up some excuse to return back.
"Crap my jacket." Removing my hand off the handle once more, I grabbed the black jacket off the bed. "Okay, what else am I missing?"
*Your sense of time.* Runespoor hissed as he wrapped around my neck. *Correct us if we are wrong, but shouldn't you have left an hour ago?*
"Yeah, yeah I know." Slipping on my jacket, I rushed out of the room and down to a floo channel. "Should I just fly there?"
*I mean if you want all of London to see you, then sure why not.* He hissed.
"Shut up." Urging him to get off my neck, I apparated to the front of the house. Standing there it all just came real. I could hear everyone already inside, wondering why they had been gathered. "I can't do this." Turning to leave, I cringed at hearing the door open. "Shit."
"Athena, I thought you had backed out." Hermione grinned. "Come on."
Shaking my head I took a few steps back. "I can't Hermione."
"You promised."
"I know, but I can't put them in danger." I refused to do that. "Everyone will have a target on their backs."
Hermione rolled her eyes. "The moment we chose to stick by Harry's side, was the moment we were marked." Holding her hand out to me, she smiled. "What's another for another friend."
"I-"
"Let them decided if they wish to stay or not." Sirius appeared behind Hermione. "After hearing what you have to say, it will be their chose."
About to refuse once more, I looked up. The two people I loved the most in this shitty world stood at the top of the stairs. Their eyes begging me to come forward. Taking in a deep breath, I walked towards them. "Alright, let's get this over with before I change my mind."
Sirius chuckled, grabbing my hand and pulling me into a kiss. "Wouldn't want that. Come on."
As we reached the living room, I was suddenly rooted to the ground. Hermione bumped into me with a slight groan. "You would think knowing them would make this so much easier."
Sirius leaned over giving me a kiss on the cheek. "When you're ready." Walking into the room, I was left in the hallway with Hermione.
"I don't know how to do this." I whispered.
Hermione gave a slight hum. "Just talk."
"Just talk?"
"Yeah, just talk."
"Like this?"
"Yes, just like this."
"Not sure that will work."
"It will, just talk."
Taking a step forward, I quickly back up into her. "No, just talk won't work."
"Athena get in there." Hermione placed her hand onto my back, slowly beginning to push. "Let's go."
"Hermione no." I whispered yelled, pushing myself back.
"Go."
"No."
"So help me if you don't get in there!" With one last push, I stumbled into the living room. "Now was that so bloody hard!"
Regaining my footing I looked up to see all eyes on me. You had every imaginable emotion in the room. Fear, anger, sadness, and confusion. Straighten up I gave them an awkward wave. "Hello."
"What is she doing here?!" Ron snapped jabbing a finger towards me.
I growled. "I'd put that finger down unless you looking to have only 9 left."
"Athena." Sirius gave me a warning look. "Please."
"He started it." I mumbled taking a seat beside him.
"I started it?!" Ron pulled a look of offense. "If I remember correctly you threaten to rip my arm off!"
Molly pinned me down with a look of shock and anger. "You did what?!"
"He was manhandling Hermione." I replied, not showing just how much it hurt to see that look on her face. "He may be a friend, but he had no right in doing that."
"Friend?" Ron laughed. "I would nev-"
"Everyone please stop." Hermione put a stop to all arguments. "We came here to talk. Not start a war."
"No, she's already started that." Ron muttered.
I turned to him, leaning forward. "What did you say?"
"Athena." Hermione placed a hand on my arm.
Shrugging her off, I gestured for Ron to repeat his words. "Go on Ron, repeat what you said."
Ron having mustered some bravery looked me straight in the eyes and said. "You already started the war. In fact, you betrayed everyone here and gone to bed with the enemy. Let me ask you something, now that you are with your people how does it feel?"
"My people?" I was truly confused by his words. "What the fuck are you talking about?"
"Come on Athena you have always known there was something different about you." He smirked. "No surprise there seeing who your real father is."
"Ronald that is enough!" Molly yelled.
Ron turned to his mother with a look of anger. "Enough?! Because of her you nearly went mad!"
"She had her reasons." Sirius quickly jumped in. "If you would shut your mouth, maybe you would understand."
"Understand what?!" He yelled. "That she turned her back on us?! After all, he has done, she joined his little sadistic club! You betrayed us! I wouldn't be surprised this meeting was a part of some plan to have Harry killed! Have all of us killed? I don't know what kind of spell she has you under Sirius, but she is just like vold-"
I had reacted before I knew what I did. Rom was on the ground with my hand clenching his shirt. I had leaped off the couch, pulling him off the seat and slamming him down to the ground. I could hear Molly demanding I leave her son alone. Harry attempts to get me to release him. Leaning forward, I stared into his scared eyes. "I did what I did to save the person I love."
"W-what do you mean?" Harry asked.
"I exchanged my loyalty to get Sirius back." I replied, yet refused to take my eyes off Ron. "Voldemort offered me a deal. In exchange for Sirius to live, I would join his army. So I did."
"Why would you do something so reckless?!" Molly scolded me having completely forgotten about her child. "There must have been another way."
"I didn't have the time or thought at the moment. He offered me a way and I took it." Finally letting go of Ron, I stood in the middle of the room. Still, my gaze was set to the floor. "I never betrayed any of you. But I couldn't tell you either. Hell, I shouldn't be telling you any of this."
"Why not?" Fred asked. He and his brother now stood beside me. "We would have been there for you?"
"That's why. I couldn't have you all being worried over me." I know it sounded stupid, by it was the truth. "Your focus needed to be on other things."
The twins were quick to pull me into a sandwich hug. "You are our sister Athena. You should have come to us."
"They are right." Harry whispered. "We could have found a way to get you out."
"That's what I didn't want Harry. Voldemort and I have a pact. A blood pact. I can't leave his side." I glanced at Sirius. "If I do-" I couldn't bring myself to repeat his words. "I can handle this, but I couldn't go another day knowing you all thought I had turned my back on you."
Molly stepped forward, cupping my face. "Please forgive us. We should have never doubted you."
"It was a shock when professor Lupin told us you had left." Harry said. "No explanation, just that for reasons known only to you."
"It had to be kept a secret." I gave him an apologetic grimace. "I am sorry Harry."
"And I am sorry I ever thought you would betray us." Without out another word, he rushed at me and wrapped his arms around me. "I am so glad I was wrong."
"Please, you're always wrong." I chuckled.
Ron was helped off the ground by Ginny. He stared at me but made no attempt to speak or approach. Instead, he nodded to himself and walked out of the room. I wasn't sure if I should follow or let him be.
"He will come around." Sirius stated.
"I suppose."
After the initial shock and relief had warned off, I explained what it was we did. I left out a few of the details of course. I didn't need them knowing of the tasks we were sent to do. The wizards we were sent to hunt down and punished. And although I desperately wanted to warn them of what was to come, I couldn't. Not without ending Draco, Snape's, and my own life. So I swallowed that one down.
"There is one more thing Athena needs to tell you." Hermione gave me a go-ahead gesture.
I pretended not to see her. "Mmm, no, no I don't think so."
"Don't make me be the one to say it." She threatened.
"What is it?" Sirius looked between us, trying to decipher the meaning behind our silent battle. "Athena?" Grabbing Sirius's hand, I placed it on my stomach. Of course, the man wouldn't catch on at first and took it as a gesture of affection. "What is it?"
"Sirius, look at your hand." I placed mine over his.
"What about it?" He frowned.
Looking over at Molly I chuckled. The woman had her hand up to her mouth. Her eyes were the size of a ping pong ball. Tears beginning to fill her eyes up. Still, she stayed quiet, waiting for the father to be, to realize it.
As if knowing its daddy needed help, the baby kicked. Sirius's eyes widen that second, jumping to my eyes and back. "Is that?"
"Yes."
"Your?"
"Yes."
"You're being serious?"
"Yes."
"Bloody hell!" Cupping my face in his hands, he pulled me into a searing kiss. "I'm going to be a father!"
