Chapter 24: The Three Trials + DLC: Final Preparations for the Grand Finale

Music playing: The Three Trials

Pit rushed to the door with his Meteor Bow equipped. "It's go time!" he said as he flew out the door and into the sky. "Given the current circumstances, I don't see how we can defeat Hades," said Palutena. "So you got us some help?" Pit asked. "Not yet. That's why we're going to meet Dyntos," Palutena replied. "Cool! I can't wait to meet the God of Snacks!" said Pit. "Actually, he's the God of the FORGE. He made the Three Sacred Treasures," Palutena explained. "He creates ALL weapons, even that sad little one you're using now." "It's not sad! It's awesome!" said Pit. "Thanks to Hades, the Three Sacred Treasures are out of commission," Palutena continued, unaware that Devil Pit has gotten a hold of them, since he repaired them with his powers. "But I'm hoping Dyntos will create a new weapon for you." "A superpowered one, right?" Pit asked. "Yes, but I should warn you—" Palutena started. "Good thing he's on our side!" Pit interrupted. "Well...not yet," said Palutena. "So we've got Underworld troops and the Forces of Nature here..." Pit wondered. "Yes," said Palutena. "Does that seem weird to you?" Pit asked. "Very," Palutena answered. "There are even some Aurum troops in the mix." Pit gasped in shock. "What exactly is going on here?" Also, how did Devil Pit's army get here anyway? he added in thought. I thought we destroyed them completely. After Pit took down all of those enemies, Pit saw a workshop coming into his view from afar. He also heard a voice. "Wha ha ha ho ho!" he chuckled. "Why, hello there, Palutena. And hello to your little helper as well!" It came from the God of the Forge himself, Dyntos. "Hey, Dyntos!" said Pit after receiving two more Recover Orbs to replenish his health. "That's Lord Dyntos to you, sonny!" Dyntos replied, apparently taking offense to that. "I apologize for his impertinence, sir. Ahem, so do you know why we're here?" Palutena asked. "Of course! You want to slay Hades to protect the celestial balance," Dyntos answered. "That's exactly right," said Palutena. "Oh, to be young, energetic...and have a head stuffed with wool!" Dyntos continued. "I jest, I jest. I like the cut of your jib! If you can make it all the way to me AND pass my three trials, I'll lend you a hand." Pit continued to take down more enemies and then flew closer to Dyntos' workshop. "Up ahead is Dyntos's workshop," Palutena pointed out. "Oooh! Fancy!" Pit exclaimed in amazement. He continued to take down more enemies and then flew into the workshop. "From the outside, you wouldn't think a hall this big could fit inside," Pit continued as he received four more Recovery Orbs to replenish his health. "It IS a bit incongruous," said Palutena. "How did these enemies get in here?" Pit questioned. "I made them. They might be forgeries, but they're superior to the originals," Dyntos explained." And they're just the tip of the iceberg! If you don't have the gumption to handle them, you've got no shot at Hades." You also won't stand a chance against that monster as well, he added in thought. "So if I pass this test, you'll make a new weapon for me?" Pit asked. "Yessiree. That's a promise," Dyntos replied. "You know, the Three Sacred Treasures weren't exactly durable," Pit continued. "Can you please make sure that this new weapon won't just fall apart?" "Palutena, you'd be wise to put a muzzle on your chicken," said Dyntos, still taking offense to that. "I apologize for him. Again," Palutena replied. "I...I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to be rude," Pit apologized as well. "That's all right. Now I don't feel bad about what's gonna happen to you," Dyntos replied. Although I would feel extremely terrible if you get killed by the Devil's foul hands, he added in thought. Pit continued to take down more and more enemies until he came across giant, animated forms of various weapons that came out to attack him. "This doesn't look good," he gasped. "Watch out, Pit!" Palutena warned. "Oh ho ho ho ho! Now THIS is a hootenanny!" Dyntos chuckled. "I'm glad one of us is having a good time!" said Pit, with a slight hint of fear. After getting through all of those, Pit approached a giant platform with tall, crystal-like pillars surrounding it. "Welcome, whippersnapper!" Dyntos greeted. "Come right this way." Pit then flew to the platform to begin his tasks. Throughout all of this, Devil Pit was hiding in the shadows. "So, it looks like Pit is about to begin his trials," he said. "Let's see if he can handle most of my minions I forced that old man to create."

Music stops and switches to: At the Seafloor Palace

Pit landed on the platform where Dyntos was waiting. "Lord Dyntos!" he exclaimed and then ate the food. "If you want a new weapon, you must prove your mettle by passing three trials," said Dyntos. "First things first. Go ahead and stand in the center of the room." Pit did as he was told and walked to the platform. It carried him to the upper level where there are a couple of stairs. "What do I do now?" he asked. "Head up those stairs. I'm sure Dyntos will explain your next step," said Palutena. "Your first trial consists of three challenges," Dyntos explained. "You must overcome all three." Instead of going to the stairs on his left, Pit headed down the stairs to his right. "And where do you think you're headed, sonny?" Dyntos asked. "You're not snooping, are you, Pit?" Palutena questioned. "Well, excuse me! Since when is it a crime to explore a part of the story?" Pit replied. Devil Pit heard the conversation and facepalmed in annoyance. "Why can't you idiots stop breaking the fourth wall?!" he groaned. After taking down the enemies that were in his way, Pit entered the last Zodiac Chamber. He collected the Pisces Heal power and exited the chamber to continue. "So what's the story with that place, anyway?" he asked. "That, my winged friend, was a Zodiac Chamber," Dyntos explained. "As you know, Zodiac Chambers contain special weapons and powers. ...You did know that, didn't you?" "Information sharing is performed on a strictly need-to-know basis," said Palutena. After taking down the enemies he recognized, Pit continued onwards to start his first trial to conquer the three challenges. He then encountered all of the Monoeye types and soon enough, all of the other army types fighting our angelic heroes. "All sorts of enemies seem to be getting in the mix," Palutena wondered. "Sometimes it feels like I'm fighting the entire universe," said Pit. He then continued onwards and took down a lot more enemies. After taking down all of the enemies from different armies, he unlocked the door to his first challenge. "You unlocked the door," said Palutena. "See you on the other side!" said Pit. He then ate the food and entered the door to face his first foe.

Music stops and switches to: Phoenix Mountain

After exiting the door, Pit ended up at a part of the Phoenix Mountain and was now fighting against what appeared as the Phoenix. "I have to defeat this guy again?" he gasped. "Heh heh heh heh heh!" Dyntos chuckled. "It was just tragic seeing the majestic immortal bird felled by such a little angel." "That majestic bird tried to kill me!" Pit cried. "If it makes you feel any better, this Phoenix is one of Lord Dyntos's creations," Palutena pointed out. "That was supposed to be a surprise, you big party pooper!" Dyntos complained. "You've done a lovely job with it, Lord Dyntos," Palutena complimented. "Well, thank you," Dyntos replied. "I'm as puffed up as a pastry over the results. It may be my finest work yet!" "Yeah, it looks great," Pit groaned. "I'm choosing to hear only your words and not your tone, sonny," said Dyntos. Much like the familiar fights against the Underworld commanders back in the Underworld against Medusa, the battle against the Phoenix was pretty much the same as before. Eventually, Pit defeated the Phoenix clone. "Extinguished again!" he yelled in victory. "Sorry you had to go through that a second time," Palutena apologized.

Music stops and switches back to: At the Seafloor Palace

That was the first challenge completed and Pit now only has two left to go. A new staircase was formed back on the same platform. "Saving the world, one mysterious door at a time!" he exclaimed. "Proceed to the left," Palutena instructed. Pit did as he was told and continued onwards while taking down more enemies. During which, Devil Pit noticed that Pit completed his first challenge. "Not bad, Pit," he said. "However, that was only one challenge done. Let's see if you can survive to take on the next one." Pit continued onwards after taking down all of those enemies, until... "Uh-oh!" he gasped as he saw and Orne. "Remember, if an Orne lands even one hit on you, it's the end," Palutena warned. "So don't freeze up like a lizard in roller skates," said Dyntos. "Oh, he won't. His style is more deer-in-the-headlights," said Palutena. "OK, OK, enough..." Pit groaned. Luckily, Pit got through the Orne and took down more enemies. The Orne disappeared after Pit arrived at the next platform and Treasure Chests appeared. "There's something weird about those treasure boxes," said Palutena. "What does that mean?" Pit asked. "My goodness, you're thick! It means they're all traps, you dunce!" said Dyntos. Turns out all of the Treasure Chests were actually Mimicuties. Luckily, Pit took them all out with a little bit of harm. He also faced a Reaper which he must avoid from its devastating attacks. Soon enough, Pit defeated the Reaper, along with the little Reapettes, to unlock the door where his second challenge will begin. "Yeah!" Pit cheered. Then, he ate the food and entered the door to face his second foe.

Music stops and switches to: Reset Bomb Forest

After Pit exited the door, he arrived at a part of the Reset Bomb Forest and was now facing what appeared to be Cragalanche. "Hey, it's Cragalanche!" he exclained. But, even though the fake is still the same, he was always silent due to him being a rock. "Strong and silent as ever, I see," Pit continued. "Yep, and he's still got a busted keister," said Dyntos. "I have to hand it to you. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail is just amazing!" Pit complimented. "If you wanted to, you could build the strongest army the world has ever seen!" Palutena offered. "Not interested," Dyntos replied. "Though creating enemies is terribly fun. I use your experiences as the blueprints." "Wait... You can see into my brain?!" Pit gasped in shock. "Lord Dyntos is powerful beyond imagination, Pit," said Palutena. "Does that mean he's even more powerful than Hades?" Pit questioned. He looked at the Cragalanche clone, who of course didn't say anything. "I hear you, Cragalanche. This is scary stuff," he continued. Of course the fight was pretty much the same, except for the fact that there was a Smart Bomb and Pit used it to strike at the Cragalanche clone. Soon enough, the Cragalanche clone was defeated. "Cragalanche crushed!" he cheered in victory. "Good work there, sonny," Dyntos congratulated.

Music stops and switches back to: At the Seafloor Palace

Pit returned back to the same platform and a new set of stairs appeared. "All righty. On to the next boss!" said Palutena. Devil Pit was still hiding in the shadows and heard about Pit's victory. "Looks like Pit faced a clone of my first warrior I fought all those years ago," he said. "But he only has one left, and this one is the one I forced that old man to create, just like how I forced him to create most of my army clones." Pit continued onwards to conquer the last challenge to finish the first trial. Along the way, there was something up with the Aurum Dohz. "How is that huge Aurum enemy moving so fast?!" he exclaimed. "I gave it a healthy dose of Dyntos magic! Can't have you getting bored, now can I?" Dyntos chuckled. But that monster forced me to create those abominations, he added in thought. I cannot believe he would do such a thing to those weapons I created for him. He only committed a serious crime on innocents! After taking down the quick enemy Dohz, along with a few others, Pit continued onwards. But then, he was ambushed by more of them and the door was locked up. "So I'm back on lockdown, huh?" he said. "What can I say? I like to make my guests feel secure," said Dyntos. Most of the enemies were EXTREMELY HARD. Luckily, Pit took them all out to unlock the door. "OK, moving forward!" he exclaimed. He then ate the food and entered the door to face his final foe and complete the first trial.

Music stops and switches to: In the Space-Pirate Ship

After exiting the door, Pit arrived at a part of Space-Pirate Ship. He was also facing off what appeared to be the Space Kraken. "The Kraken!" Palutena gasped. "I'm back on the pirate ship?" Pit asked in shock. "A pretty faithful reproduction, wouldn't you say?" said Dyntos. "There's stuff here that I didn't notice before," Pit continued in shock. "This has to be another one of Lord Dyntos' creations, right?" "It doesn't matter if it is or isn't. That Kraken is real!" said Palutena. "Why don't you get a little closer to him and verify that hypothesis, sonny?" Dyntos offered. "I'm sure the Kraken would like nothing more than to turn you into chum salad." Although that monster forced me to create it, he added in thought. "That won't be happening," said Pit. "I beat a Kraken once, and I can do it again!" Devil Pit heard the whole conversation and smiled sinisterly. "Looks like Pit is fighting my secret bioweapon I created three years ago," he said. "But I'm pretty sure he can take it down again." As usual, the fight was the same, except for the Grenade Pit used to attack the Space Kraken. Soon enough, the Kraken was defeated. "That's right, you tentafool!" Pit yelled in victory. "Tentafool? Uh, nice one, Pit," Palutena sighed. Pit then drank another Drink of the Gods after that battle. He has completed all three of his challenges and finished the first trial. "All right, that's the last of them! Can I have my new weapon now?" he said. "Not so fast. Do you remember the name of this chapter?" Dyntos asked. "Uh..." Pit started. "Wasn't it 'The One Trial' or something?" "You're a couple trials short there, sonny!" Dyntos replied. Devil Pit facepalmed at that. "You idiot! You only finished the first trial!" he groaned. "Also, why won't you stop breaking the fourth wall, for fuck's sake?!" Pit was suddenly teleported out of the ship and to somewhere else.

Music stops and switches to: Boss Fight 1

Pit was soon in a part of Dark Lord Gaol's Castle. There, he saw Magnus AND Gaol herself. "Hey there," Magnus greeted. "Magnus! And...Dark Lord Gaol?" Pit gasped, shocked and confused about what he saw. The three of them readied themselves to begin the battle and second trial. "Why are you here with Gaol, Magnus?" Pit asked his human ally. "What can I say? The old god asked me to fight you, so here I am," Magnus replied. "Think you'll be able to take the both of us, Pit?" Gaol asked. "I don't really have a choice!" said Pit as he fought the two humans. The three of them battled it out in this big fight. The hero versus his ally and used to be second foe. "Magnus, that's really you, right?!" Pit asked. "The one and only," Magnus answered. "I was sure you were another of Lord Dyntos' creations," Pit wondered. "That is the most likely explanation," said Palutena. "It's also the most incorrect. I just invited these two here to help test you," Dyntos corrected. "In that case, I have some questions for you, Magnus!" Pit started. "Why were you so quick to join up with me when we first met? And how come you're stronger than any other human I've ever seen? AND—" "What is this, twenty questions?" Magnus interrupted. "Maybe," said Pit. "Well, I don't have any answers for you. I'm only here to TEST you," Magnus continued. "Angel! It's the Lord of the Underworld you oppose, yes?" Gaol asked. "Of course it is!" Pit replied. "Then concentrate on proving yourself, not what we're saying," Gaol continued. "Hold your questions for after you save the world." The three warriors still continued to fight until Pit took down both of his foes. "And that's the end of the BOTH of you!" he yelled in victory. "Not bad, angel face!" said Magnus, a little impressed of his victory. Suddenly, both humans were teleported away from the castle. "Where are you going?" Pit asked. Then, Palutena warped into the castle to fight against her angel servent. "Lady Palutena?! What are you doing here?" the angel gasped in shock. "Isn't it obvious, Pit?" Palutena laughed. "I'm here to finish you!" "Do I really have to fight this imposter?" Pit questioned. "I know you like making re-creations, but this is really in poor taste!" "Oh, don't get all huffy now," said Dyntos. "Besides, if that Palutena is a copy, then where's the real Palutena?" "Where she always is! Right, Lady Palutena?" said Pit, but after he tried to talk to Palutena telepathically, there was no response. "Uh... Lady Palutena?" he tried again, but still nothing. Therefore, Pit must face Palutena right in front of him. "Time to die, Pit!" she yelled. "Oh, no... Don't tell me that IS the real Lady Palutena," Pit gasped. "Now what do I do? I don't really have to fight her, do I?" "It won't be a fight. It'll be a massacre!" Palutena contiued. But even after Pit took her down, Palutena's face revealed herself who she really was; Pseudo-Palutena. "You're finished!" she yelled. "What what WHAT?!" Pit yelled in disbelief, after seeing her hideous face. "Well, I'm glad I decided to attack!" Pseudo-Palutena's attacks were indeed very powerful, but this time, Pit fought against her without any hesitation. At last, Pseudo-Palutena was defeated. "You big fake!" Pit yelled in victory. "At least I'm beautiful!" Pseudo-Palutena replied. (A/N: No, you were not. You're gross!) This finished the second trial and it was time for the third and final one.

Music restarts

Pit was soon teleported to a giant platform and drank another Drink of the Gods. "Good job there, sonny!" Dyntos congratulated. "There's just one trial left!" said Pit. "Yes, yes, I'm quite aware of that," said Dyntos. "Here it is. The Great Sacred Treasure." As on queue, the Great Sacred Treasure flew next to the platform. "You're just giving it to me? I don't have to do something horrible first?" Pit asked. But he jinxed it and the Great Sacred Treasure suddenly came to life to attack the angel. "That depends on your definition of 'horrible,'" Dyntos chuckled. "Wait! Don't shoot!" Pit yelled and the battle for the third and final trial began. "Dang! Now this is a trial!" he continued as the Great Sacred Treasure launched out devastating attacks. "Look alive out there, sonny!" Dyntos warned. "This is a far cry from the Three Sacred Treasures of old, eh? This beauty is made of pure orichalcum!" "Oh, wow! ...I don't know what that is," Pit gasped in amazement. "Ungh..." Palutena groaned as she slowly woke up. "Lady Palutena! You're all right!" Pit gasped upon hearing her voice. "I don't know what happened. I must have fallen asleep," said Palutena. "What?! Since when do you nap on the job?" Pit asked. "You can thank Lord Dyntos for that little trick," Palutena replied. "Why, you're very welcome, missy! You seem refreshed!" said Dyntos. "No way!" Pit exclaimed. "You have the power to put THE GODDESS OF LIGHT to sleep?! This hardly seems like a fair fight!" Suddenly, the Great Sacred Treasure teleported and charged up its most powerful attack. "Watch out, Pit!" Palutena warned and Pit avoided the gigantic laser beam just in time. "That was really close!" Pit gasped. "I told you this thing was powerful!" said Dyntos. "But, Lord Dyntos..." Palutena started. "Aren't you worried about what might happen if this fell into the wrong hands?" "Of course I am! That's why I'm testing this young warrior," Dyntos replied. "I need to know if he has the skills and heart to operate the Great Sacred Treasure." "The Great Sacred Treasure is serious business!" Pit groaned as he struggled to take it down. "Instead of dodging its incoming shots, try running to the side," Palutena explained. "Anticipate where it will finish its movement, then hit it with a side-dash charged shot." Pit did as he was told and made sure that the Great Sacred Treasure was going down this time. Soon enough, the Great Sacred Treasure was defeated, finishing the third and final trial. "Whoo hoo! And to the victor go the spoils!" Pit cheered in victory. "Nicely done!" Dyntos congratulated. Pit then hopped into the Great Sacred Treasure to test it out and he was having fun with it. "Now THIS is where it's at!" he yelped in amazement. "Oh, Lord Dyntos?" Palutena asked. "Yep, that's my name," Dyntos replied. "That was quite a few enemies for 'Three Trials,' wouldn't you agree?" Palutena continued. "I might have thrown in a few freebies," Dyntos chuckled. Then, Pit accidentally slammed himself right onto the platform. Luckily, he wasn't hurt. "Oh, dear," Palutena and Dyntos said, simultaneously, and then Pit was whisked back to Palutena's temple via a light pillar.

Music stops and switches to: (M)TMB ARC Extended Music: Athenaeum Riba's Theme (A.K.A. Devil Pit's Theme)

"Well, I'm glad to see the angel grew up to be a powerful warrior," Dyntos sighed. "Welp, I suppose I should head back to my work and-" "And just where do you think you're going, old man?" replied a sinister voice. Suddenly, Dyntos was surrounded by Shadow Pit Clones and Reapers, all of which had their weapons out to prevent the God of the Forge from escaping. Devil Pit soon came out of the shadows and walked up to the elder god himself. "Y-You again!" Dyntos gasped. Devil Pit smiled sinisterly to see him. "Judging from the face you have right now, you're surprised to see me again," he started. "After all these years, I see that you haven't changed." "What are you doing here?!" Dyntos yelled. "I thought you left my workshop after you forced me to create your monsters! The Aurum, the Space Pirates, even your secret bioweapon!" "That's not why I'm here," Devil Pit replied. "I'm here to tell you something extremely important." "And what would that be?" Dyntos asked. "Remember the Three Sacred Treasures you made for me? And what about the other ones for Pit that were previously destroyed?" Devil Pit asked. "First of all, YOU used your weapons for your crimes!" Dyntos yelled. "You disobeyed Palutena's orders and instead went after somebody else instead of Medusa!" Devil Pit raised a hand and the Shadow Pit Clones and Reapers readied their weapons to strike. "Gaia had to be killed for a reason, old man!" he said. "After all, do you even have any idea the suffering I had to deal with then THEY died?!" Dyntos was silent to hear that. "That's what I thought," Devil Pit snickered. "And as for Pit's Three Sacred Treasures..." He pulled out the Three Sacred Treasures Case and opened it up. Out came Pit's Three Sacred Treasures and Dyntos was shocked. "H-How did you get them back?!" he exclaimed. "I-I thought the young angel told me they were destroyed!" "Silly old man. I used my powers to repair them," Devil Pit explained. "And now that I have them, along with my own, I shall now begin the final step of my backup plan. Release him now, minions! We have a big day ahead of us!" The Shadow Pit Clones and Reapers released their weapons from Dyntos and disappeared. "Now if you'll excuse me, I must get going," Devil Pit continued. "I have to make final preparations for the finale. Once Pit takes down the Underworld ruler, my backup plan will be able to end all of you once and for all! The end is nigh! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Devil Pit soon teleported away from Dyntos' workshop. Dyntos was left in complete shock. "This is not good!" he said. "I must warn the other gods about this! We must stop his plan before it's too late!" He then left his workshop as well.

Music stops

Oh. My. God! The finale is just near! Self-explanatory, the grand finale of the story is coming up. Pit has now gotten the Great Sacred Treasure to defeat the Lord of the Underworld, Hades, for good this time. But what about Devil Pit? What is his backup plan going to cause? Stay tuned for the final chapter, chapter twenty five, review, and have a great day!
