AN: Okay, so, apparently the MC's personality isn't shown enough, so from now on I'll try to show it more.
On the last chapter I got two very constructive reviews, after which I rewrote two parts of chapter 5, namely the firestorm fight and Shigaraki's reaction.
If there are critiques like that for this one too, I would be happy to hear them.
Chapter 6:
A thought that came to me one day, was why did I stay in UA? Hell, why did I go there in the first place?
The second question was easy, I wanted to be able to use my quirk publicly. But why to UA? The answer to this came relatively easy as well. It was for the plot armor of course!
However, after seeing that I managed to change canon, why did I stay? After a couple of pages of phylosophy in my diary, I managed to write down two reasons.
1. Because of the meta narrative that most shonens follow. Hero inspires group to get stronger, to fight increasingly stronger villains, who only they could defeat even though there are a lot of older heroes. I'm pretty sure the same happened here, Izuku would have inspired everyone to get stronger, and together the class would have fought against increasingly stronger villains. Pretty standard. However, I managed to screw up by changing the events, so now there isn't inspiration in the class, but the dangers are still there, which would presumably destroy the world if only this class doesn't stop them. So I remained, to at least try and forge this class into something that can survive until the end of the manga.
2. I got friends again, and it's a wonderful feeling! Isolation is well and good, but having friends is a hundred times better, in small doses of course, I still spend most of my time alone, but regularly interacting with people my own age a couple hours a day is wonderful.
Just interacting with people in general, is actually pretty good activity, provided they're the right people. I didn't do much talking here, not being able to connect with most of my previous classmates, not even trying, and not really accepting the parents of this body as my own.
That was enough positivity/soul-searching for one paragraph however, so let's move on to another observation that I scribbled in the diary.
It was about a question that bugged me, why didn't we have twenty people in our class? If only 40 students got in UA each year, something must have happened for one to be left out. I should look into this, but how? Breaking into UA archives is out of the question.
Why am I starting with that again? I could just ask the teachers. My mind surprises me sometimes, how much it just wants to avoid other people.
It was about time however to get out of bed, and go to school. And I didn't want to.
Don't misunderstand me, UA was tolerable, but it was still school, having classes like english, mathematics and everything else that was just wasting time for me, since I already learned it once. Sadly, I had an image to keep up, so I had to do them.
I settled on a compromise, and decided to write a couple lines in the diary before getting out of bed: "train more with wings" "puppetry like the nomu, less lethal more controlling" and with that, I got up, quickly getting my clothes on, and running out of the apartment.
On my way to school, I saw all the big screens showing news reports on yesterday events. I should look into it as well, using what little meta knowledge I have to try and find out more, despite being sure that the best pro heroes are working on it, not me who got all his detective knowledge from crime documentaries, but still, I would try and contribute, on my own way, which had a little more torture (and killing if I actually find a member) then the official one.
- POV change -
The detectives worked long into the night, arresting all the thugs, and being surprised to find bodies in the place of in some places.
The teachers were even curious, wanting to see the defeated villains by the students, so they were categorized based on that. It was all well and fine, until getting to the profile of one Kamiyama Doppo, who left behind more dead people than he should've, which was any number above zero really.
In the firestorm area, there were two types of people: those with broken bones, and those who were only hit hard, but were otherwise fine.
It was determined that Ojiro Mashirao probably caused the latter, since among the former they also found someone who was impaled through the stomach, and bled out. The cut was wide, barring in mind the individual's size, it would have cut smaller people straight in half. One death, while bad, would have been overlooked. Still a student, first real battle, high-stress situation, yada-yada.
However, then they got to the shipwreck zone. Thanks to Aizawa, they knew that once Kamiyama and Ojiro left the firestorm area, they split up, Ojiro joining him, and Kamiyama going to help the students in the lake. Aizawa didn't get a good look, but he was sure that there must have been at least fifteen villains circling the ship in the middle. Five of them were dead, drowned after getting their muscles cut through, not being able to swim properly.
If all of that wasn't enough, his brutal execution of the bird person would have been. Even before he acted, Kamiyama killed him in a brutal manner. So little was left of him, they couldn't even properly identify the remains, but from what little they managed to gather, it looked like it was some kind of bioengineered weapon, but Kamiyama did not know this, it might have been just a particularly ugly mutant quirk, and he would have done the same, which was unnacceptable from heroes.
Generally, heroes should subdue their opponents, and only in desperate times may they use lethal force. It was clear that a couple of thugs didn't fall under the "desperate times" category, and so Kamiyama killing them was a bit problematic.
Aizawa however had faith in his student, and told the lead investigator that they'll have a little chat about morality and how heroes are supposed to act, and please leave it out of the report this one time, to which he reluctantly agreed, not wanting to damn this young man's career, just because a mistake he made in a situation he wasn't properly prepared for.
Kamiyama still had the benefit of doubt however, since it was documented that his quirk was hard to control, and suddenly being in a high-stress situation may have lessened the control, which would have meant that they only needed to train more, and not that Kamiyama intentionally killed people.
- POV change -
I was two thirds on my way to school, when I remembered that it was temporarily closed down. While I was a little irritated, it quickly went away, since the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and it was nice all around. I also had time to try and work on the wings.
My mind was full of ideas as I was walking home, but suddenly my chain of thought broke, as I head meowing. It was a soft sound, judging by the pitch barely a kitten.
I looked around, and spotted a little bit of black fur in the bushes. I went to it, and as I looked in, the image I saw was heartwarming: It was a small black kitten, with disheveled fur and a small tummy, showing it didn't eat much in the last couple of days. My mind made up, I gently grabbed her, and with her sitting in my arms we went home together.
In the afternoon I spent a lot of time trying to use the wings, flying was out of the question right now, but gliding was possible, and even enjoyable, with the wind brushing against my face, seeing the world under me gave me a sense of freedom.
The little cat that I got today was also near me, sitting on my jacket that I put next to the field that I choose, just sleeping there.
Watching here distracted me however, and I almost crashed down, but managed to make two big claws from my hands, stopping my descent. After this little incident, I decided to end training for today, and dissipated my wings, leaving a couple splotches of void on the ground.
I didn't pay attention to the little furball however, as while I got myself together, she managed to get out of my jacket, and approach one of the newly created splashes. I didn't count on that, since most animals just avoided it, but I saw surprised when she drank it. Nobody ever did that before.
Her fur blackened even further, and the white in her eyes shined just a little stronger. Maybe she had a quirk? I knew the principal was some kind of sentient
dog-cat-mouse something, so it was possible.
"Well, little one, you're a lot more interesting than I first thought."
"Meow!"
AN: I hope I managed to flesh the MC out more, showing more of his character.
A couple chapters ago somebody asked about One for All, and I was thinking about having Iida inherit it, what do you think about it? Does anyone have a better idea? I'm all ears honestly, not sure who to give it to.
