Chapter Five
"Hermione you still have to go on this date," Karolyn demanded.
"No, I don't. I don't need a date. I don't need a rich guy. I need Ron." Hermione glanced at Karolyn's face. She had a grave expression that absolutely petrified Hermione. It was like staring down death row, but this time her evil demanding glare caused Hermione's life to flash before her eyes.
"You don't need Ron. That ship has sailed remember? Besides he made it perfectly clear that he was drawing a line between the two of you," Karolyn took the paper from Hermione's hand that contained Ron's solemn goodbye, and threw it in the trash. Hermione was going to protest, but decided Karolyn's wrath would be easier if she just kept her mouth shut.
"Hermione, what you need is to move on, and get over him, and that isn't going to happen by sitting around wallowing in self pity. I am telling you this because you are my friend, and I want you to be happy again."
"Alright, I'll go," Hermione looked down at the ground a single tear dripped down her face and rolled onto the floor. She wished she could go curl up in blanket and hide.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione had to get ready for her date before Karolyn would leave. She pulled on a black long-sleeved shirt and an old pair of jeans knowing Karolyn was going to make her change anyways. Hermione slowly made her way to the bathroom and looked herself over in the mirror. She left her hair the way it was, coiled and very messy. She suddenly heard a knock on her bathroom door and heard Karolyn say," Hermione I am coming in now."
Karolyn walked in and glanced at Hermione," What are you doing?"
"Getting ready," Hermione said with a grin.
"Oh no no no, you are definatley not going out in public with hair that looks like it belongs in the 80s."
"Well," Hermione said," I didn't think it was that bad, but if you insist." Hermione grabbed a hair tie and threw her hair into a messy bun," Happy now?"
"No." Karolyn said grabbing her wand.
"Don't you dare come near me with that," Hermione warned.
"I just wanna make your hair better. YOU CAN'T GO OUT ON A DATE LOOKING LIKE A WILDABEAST!" Karolyn shrieked, as Hermione darted out of the room.
After about five minutes of complete chaos Hermione relented and let Karolyn fix her hair and wardrobe. Karolyn flicked her wand and Hermione's hair was suddenly wavy and defiantly not frizzy or hair from the 80s. It actually looked good. Hermione was quite capable of fixing her own hair, and she did most of the time, but some days Hermione just didn't care.
"There," Karolyn said admiring Hermione's hair.
"Now," Karolyn said while making her way over to Hermione's closet," wear these." Karolyn threw Hermione a pair of white Capri's. Hermione eyed the pants precociously; they were good pants. Slipping on the new pants, Hermione gazed at herself in the mirror, she could she why Karolyn didn't make her change shirts. The black shirt clung to her quite nicely. Hermione didn't complain, although she wanted to. She wanted to ditch the rich guy with an agenda, it's not like she could ever love this guy.
Hermione unexpectedly felt something prodding at her shoulder. She looked over and saw Karolyn poking her with the heel of a black sandal. Hermione slipped them on carefully then walked into the living room to get her purse. It was a quarter till six, meaning the mystery guy would be there in about fifteen minutes.
"Makeup?" Karolyn questioned, but Hermione knew it wasn't really a question but a demand. She answered anyway.
"No," Hermione said solemnly.
"Too bad," Karolyn said settling herself on the couch next to Hermione with a big container of makeup. Karolyn carefully opened container after container, and dabbed different makeups on Hermione's face. Hermione felt as if she was someone's doll. As soon as Karolyn finished putting all her makeup back in its designated bucket Hermione heard a knock on the door. Karolyn jumped up to get the door, but Hermione stopped her," I think I will get it. After all it is my date is it not?"
"Okay," Karolyn said sitting back down. Hermione wandered over to the door, and put her hand on the knob.
'This is it,' she thought,' No more Ron.'
She slowly opened the door. She looked up and saw a very tall attractive man. Hermione couldn't help but smile.
"Hi, I'm uh um John." He said extending his hand for her to shake.
"I'm Hermione," she said shaking his hand.
"You want to go now?" John asked.
"Yeah sure," Hermione stepped out of her apartment and closed the door behind her.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione and John rode the restaurant in a really fancy car. Once they arrived at the restaurant John jumped out of the car and opened Hermione's door and helped her out.
"Milady?" He said offering her his arm.
Hermione gladly obliged and walked into the restaurant. It was a very sophisticated and elegant place. Hermione felt a little underdressed, which was a tad bit embarrassing. Once they were sitting down at a table John started talking about his career. Hermione wasn't paying much attention. She was thinking about Ron's letter. She kept remembering all the wrong parts of the letter, but then she remembered the only part that really mattered. The P.S.
P.S: I will always love you Hermione.
"Hermione? Hermione? Hermione?" John was looking at her funny then she remembered the date.
"Oh sorry." Hermione said.
"What do you do for a living?"
"Oh I um… I can't do this." Hermione said. 'He loves me.' She thought.
"Excuse me?" John looked a little confused, but who wouldn't be.
Hermione situated herself then swallowed," I can't do this. This date. I um I'm sure you're a great guy and everything. I just can't do this. I love someone else. Someone who is irreplaceable, mostly because I gave him my whole heart and he never gave it back. "
John smiled then said," If you love him then why are you on a date with me?"
"Karolyn… she convinced me that he didn't matter anymore, but you see he does."
"Go ahead. Go. It's fine."
"Thank you so much and I am truly sorry."
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione made her way up the steps to Ron's room at The Burrow. He still lived with his parents. This made Hermione smile to herself. There she stood in front of his door, just inches away from seeing him. She knocked then opened the door… It wasn't just a room. It was like an apartment. There wasn't just one room but two. Hermione stepped in, and everything felt warm and cozy. She walked jauntily across the room into one that looked something like a living room. Suddenly a fast movement caught her glance, and she looked over to the couch. She saw two people… two people all over each other…
Hermione saw a familiar brunette lying on top of a redhead. Her redhead. They were all over each other, kissing and touching. Finally it dawned on Hermione who the brunette was… it was Karolyn. Hermione couldn't help but gasp. Karolyn looked up and her jaw dropped. Hermione just stood there stupidly as Ron eyed her up and down.
"Mione?" Ron asked pushing Karolyn off of himself and standing up. Hermione darted out of the room; she could feel Ron running after her. Gaining on her.
"Mione wait! Please!"
Hermione finally reached the door of the room and plunged herself into the hallway, but before she could move any further a very frustrated Ron grabbed a hold of her.
"Let go of me," Hermione whimpered.
"No… Hermione."
"Get back to your date… my best friend." Hermione said continuing to struggle.
"Don't give me that shit Hermione. I thought you were over me or is that just what you keep telling yourself at night to make yourself feel better?"
"I read the papers." Hermione said gravely," I wanted to apologize. And I am over you… I just wanted to say sorry for never listening." Hermione lied.
"Oh okay," Ron said sounding hurt. He let her go and walked back into his room.
A/n: Wahoo! Please read and review! I tried my hardest.
