Ch 5 Misunderstandings
Meanwhile Kopa and his siblings had reached Rafiki's Tree. But as they got to the entrance Kopa stopped dead in his tracks. "Kopa what's wrong?" Jasiri asked, looking at her love with concern.
"Maybe this isn't such a good idea," Kopa said softly. "I...I think I should go back home." With that Kopa turned to walk back to Pride Rock. But before he could suddenly Rafiki popped up in front of him, causing the creamy brown lion to jump in surprise.
"Ah ha!" Rafiki cried out with a laugh. "Young Kopa. What can I do fer chu?"
"Well first you can give me back the two years you just scared out of me," Kopa said, as he steadied his breathing. "But other than that I'm fine. Sorry I wasted your time Rafiki." With that Kopa once again turned to walk away. But before he could Rafiki put him arm around Kopa and pulled him close.
"Ah but are you really fine?" the old mandrill asked. "Because old Rafiki knows dat you are not as fine as you say you are."
"How do you always know these things?" Kopa asked, shaking his head and letting out a slight laugh.
"Old Rafiki knows a great deal," Rafiki said with a smile. "De Great Kings watch over you all and dey tell me what I need to know in order to help you. Dat is if you allow me to do so."
"I...I don't know," Kopa stammered, pulling away from Rafiki. Then his blue eyes went wide and he quickly said, "I'm fine Rafiki."
"Kopa you are not fine," Kiara said, sounding really annoyed. "I mean you're hearing our dead brother's voice. I don't think that classifies as fine."
"Shut up Kiara!" Kopa hissed, glaring at his older sister.
"Kopa honey you'll never feel better if you don't let Rafiki help you," Jasiri said softy as she nuzzled Kopa. Kopa looked at his girlfriend, fully prepared to insist that he was fine. But the look on Jasiri's face made Kopa quickly change his mind.
"Alright," the creamy brown lion said with a defeated sigh. "You guys win." Then he turned back towards Rafiki and said, "Its true Rafiki. I have been hearing Kion's voice and he's been...telling me to do...terrible things."
"Ah yes," Rafiki said with a nod. "I have felt de evil spirits moving from de oder side. But until now I did not know de extent of dis."
"So wait I'm not crazy?" Kopa said, the surprise clear in his voice.
"You are vedy much sane," Rafiki said with a nod. "De spirits can indeed come to us. Both de good ones and de bad ones. And dey can choose who dey come to."
"And he choose me," Kopa said with a sigh. "Lucky me. But I guess I should be thankful it wasn't Nala that came to me."
"You said it brother," Kiara said, her voice coming out very soft.
"So how do I make him leave me alone?" Kopa asked, having not heard his sister's comment.
"Ah dat is not someting I can tell you," Rafiki said. "I will have to look into dis in order to have a better perception on dis."
"Any advice on what I should do in the mean time?" Kopa asked.
"De best thing I can say to you is: try to ignore dese spirits," Rafiki said. "Dey cannot harm you unless you allow dem to."
"Ignore them?" Kopa repeated, his voice rising slightly. "Ignore them? That's the best advice you can give me?! No offence Rafiki but that's the stupidest advice I've ever heard in my entire life!"
"Kopa honey please don't shout at Rafiki," Jasiri said, giving Kopa a nuzzle. "He's only trying to help you."
"Well he's doing a real shitty job Jasiri," Kopa said with a growl.
"Kopa," Kiara began. But she was interrupted by her brother's angry shout.
"You insisted that I come here Kiara!" the creamy brown lion shouted. "You said Rafiki would help me. But he didn't! This was all a huge waste of my time!"
"Young one please calm yerself," Rafiki said, putting his hands on Kopa's shoulders. "If you would just let me..."
"Forget it!" Kopa shouted, shaking Rafiki's hands off of him. "I'm out of here!" Without waiting for a response Kopa turned and stormed out of the tree.
"I'll talk to him," Jasiri said as she too exited the Tree.
"Sorry about that Rafiki," Kiara said, shaking her head. "My brother can be real hard headed sometimes."
"He is vedy stressed out," Rafiki said. "I do not take any offense. But if he does not learn how to control his anger den it will come out at a vedy bad time. And den de evil spirits will win."
"Well we won't let that happen," Kovu declared, putting as much force into his voice as he could. "C'mon Ki' we're gonna find our brother right now. Thank you Rafiki for trying to help."
"I will help anytime I am allowed to," Rafiki said with a smile. Kovu and Kiara smiled back as they exited the Tree in search of their brother.
TLKTLKTLK
Kopa ran until he was out of breath. Stopping to catch his breath Kopa heard Jasiri calling him. "Shit I really don't feel like talking right now," Kopa thought as he quickly dashed behind a large boulder. He heard Jasiri call his name for a few minutes. Then he heard Kovu and Kiara talking with the rusty brown lioness for a few minutes. Then he heard them walk away. Kopa peaked around the edge of the boulder and saw that his siblings and girlfriend were gone. But then he heard more voices heading his way and he quickly ducked behind the rock again, thinking Kiara, Kovu and Jasiri had come back. But to his surprise it wasn't them. It was Simba, Zira, Nuka and Vitani.
"Alright Dad what the heck is so important?" Nuka asked, the irritance clear in his voice. "Me and Kiara had this day planned to spend some time together."
"Yeah so did me and Chafu," Vitani chimed in, sounding irritated herself.
"Now children lets not be disrespectful," Zira said.
"Mom we're almost two," Nuka said, still sounding annoyed. "Don't talk to us like we're cubs."
"Then don't act like cubs Nukia," Zira said, a hint of anger in her voice. "Show your father some respect."
"Sorry Mom," the twins said together. "Sorry Dad."
"Its alright," Simba said with a smile. "And I know that you two are a bit annoyed to have your plans ruined and trust me I wouldn't have done so if it wasn't important."
"So what exactly is so important anyways?" Nuka asked.
"Your mother and I wanted to discuss something with you two," Simba said. "We've been talking and we're quite concerned about Kopa."
"Yeah we are too," Nuka said with a nod. "He's really been stressed out lately. Kiara said he hasn't been sleeping."
"Yes we're aware," Simba said. "And that's what's so concerning. Kopa had been acting differently lately. He's always on edge."
"Yeah well you would be too if you were hearing your dead evil brother's voice," Vitani piped up.
"That's precisely our point Vitani," Zira said. "Kopa's been hearing voices too. Which his exactly how his mother, Nala acted before she lost her sanity all together."
"So wait you and Dad think Kopa's becoming like Nala?" Nuka asked, shocked that his parents would think such a thing.
"Don't you think that his behavior is a bit like Nala's was?" Simba asked.
"Well yeah," Nuka admitted, looking over at Vitani who nodded. "I mean I guess you do have a point Dad." Kopa was listening to all this and he took the opportunity to walk away unnoticed.
"So they think I'm becoming like Mother do they?" the creamy lion thought with a growl. "Well I'll show them. I'll show them all. They'll regret talking about me behind my back." With that Kopa let out another growl and headed for the Outlands. Little did he know that he had only heard part of the conversation.
