Chapter Eight
Hermione awoke to the sun beaming on her face. She felt the warmth of something next to her and something wrapped around her waist. Perhaps a hand? Or an arm? Hermione slowly looked down at her waist and saw an arm wrapped tightly around her waist. She jumped and saw the stranger that was lying in her bed wasn't a stranger at all, but John.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Hermione said haughtily stepping away from the bed. John looked at her oddly then yawned," I came to apologize… but when I got here the door was wide open and you were lying on the floor with a bottle of rum and a big fleece blanket wrapped around you. So I decided that I should probably do the right thing by taking care of you. So I came in and shut the door behind me and picked you and carried you to bed."
"So you decided you should stay in my bed?"
"No I did not… I was going to leave. You are the one who decided for me to stay by grabbing my arm and pulling me towards you. I didn't want to be rude and just leave you… I'm sorry… I guess I should just go now."
"No," Hermione started," I am sorry… Thank you... you know for taking care of me and stuff."
John smiled at her and reached for her hands and pulled her into his arms…
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Harry walked into his and Ginny's new place for the first time ever. He had just gotten back from his trip to America. He had had to stay a week later than expecting but that's work. When he stepped into the newly painted apartment he saw Ginny kneeling on plastic that was covering the floor. Ginny turned around at the sound of the door opening and saw Harry standing in the doorway looking around with a puzzled look on his face.
"What do you think?" Ginny asked setting down the paintbrush that was clutched in her hand and stuffing her hands into her paint splotched overalls.
"It's fantastic." Harry said focusing his vision on her. Paint was dotted on her face.
"Why didn't you use magic on that?" Harry asked gesturing to the can of paint.
"I dunno. I've just always painted the muggle way. When I was little and couldn't use magic very well I used to paint this way with my mum. Bad habits die hard I guess." Ginny said while walking slowly towards Harry.
"Hmm… I wouldn't say it's a bad habit… more like time consuming," he said, beginning to walk towards Ginny and meeting her halfway and embracing her tightly and smelling her hair.
"I've missed you so much," Harry said lifting her up so she would be eye level with him.
"I've missed you too," Ginny said as Harry began to spin her around. Everything seemed to melt into a hazy mess as they began spinning faster. Before she knew it they fell. She landed on top of Harry who fell on the couch. They started laughing uncontrollably, but their laughter was soon cut off when Harry engulfed Ginny in a wonderfully passionate kiss.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Hermione looked helplessly around her apartment. The emptiness was killing her. John had left at about noon for because of something urgent at work. After he left Hermione felt a little lonely and now staring around at her empty apartment… dull. She felt unbelievably dull. So she decided to paint the walls anything but the beige that now covered them. She wanted something vibrant. She wanted something completely crazy. She wanted something, dare I say, different.
Suddenly during mid thought Hermione's phone rang; she always kept the muggle contraption so that her muggle parents could get in contact with her without any trouble or by magical means. Most of the time Hermione wandered why she even kept the phone… her parent called about as many times as she saw them, which wasn't that often. She answered the phone feeling quite certain it was her mother calling to complain about something her father had done," Hello." But instead of hearing her mothers reassuring voice she heard an all to familiar males voice.
"Hi 'Mione."
"John?" Hermione asked unsure if it was him or not.
"Yeah it's me," he said in an obnoxious tone.
"You have a phone?" Hermione asked unsurely.
"Yeah… my whole family is muggles so I just kept one around."
"Makes sense, but how on earth did you get my number?" she said.
"I have my ways," he said in a mysterious way that made Hermione laugh.
"Okay Hermione. Would you like to go to dinner with me tonight?"
"Of course, but I really have to go now… I just remembered I promised a friend I would do something for her."
"Okay… I will pick you up at sixish?"
"Sounds brilliant see you then bye," Hermione quickly hung up the phone. Hermione briskly walked towards the door grabbing her coat and house keys on the way. Once outside Hermione apparated out of the snowy streets of London to Ginny's new apartment where a small party was being held in Ginny and Harry's honor. Hermione looked around the apartment at all the people that were there… she thought this was a small thing. Hermione was looking around at the newly painted walls and the furniture the filled the room in front of her when Ginny literally tackled her in attempt to giving her a hug.
"Jeez Gin kill me why don't you."
"Er… sorry Hermione…" Ginny said standing up brushing herself off before helping Hermione up.
"So what do you think," Ginny asked gesturing around the apartment.
"It is wonderful," suddenly out of the corner of her eye she saw Ron and Karolyn conversing to another couple. Soon enough she found herself staring at them. Before she knew it Ron was staring back and for a single minute everything seemed to stop. Hermione seemed to loose touch of the real world; now she was living in a alternate world where the only people there were her and Ron. And the only thing that mattered was them.
Hermione soon shook herself into reality. And in reality Hermione still felt betrayed and embarrassed around Ron and Karolyn. She couldn't handle it… she had to leave, and she had to leave now. She reached the door and took one last glance at what could have been her then opened the door and stepped out onto the snowy streets. Hermione sat outside for at least 30 minutes before realizing it was almost a quarter till six. She apparated home and got ready for her dinner date with John.
