This day starts off with Lila already in the class, bright and early. However, she's placed herself in Nino's seat with a smile that's too sweet to be innocent.
She has convinced Mademoiselle. Bustier that she had tinnitus and it interfered with her general hearing so it was necessary for her to sit at the front, therefore, she can pay attention to the teachings better. Caline doesn't bat an eye at this when Lila gave her the forged medical notes, simply accepts it since she's loaded with so much work and doesn't have many reasons to doubt the new girl.
The rest of the class walks in, sending curious glances at Lila but shrugging the questions off. It is a Lundi morning after all. When Adrien, Marnette, Alya and Nino finally arrive at class, Alya is the one to vocally question the seating. She raises a brow at Lila's tinnitus reasoning and then raises them even higher from the Italian's reasonings.
"This happened last year when I was out of the continent with Mama. I was too close to a jet and the sound of the engines suddenly starting affected my ears permanently!"
Alya finds it shady- why didn't Lila mention this when she first arrived to their school a few months ago? Nino on the other hand beckons her to her usual seat and he himself takes Marinette's seat, thinking that the latter wouldn't mind since there's space at the back for her and Adrien to sit together.
"...Oh? Is no one going to sit next to me...? I don't want to be alone..."
Lila's quiet whimpers put Marinette and Adrien in quite a dilemma.
They'd have happily sat at the back but Lila points out that she doesn't want to be alone, rubbing her arms and looking to the ground, gaining sympathy from some of their classmates. Caline politely requests that one of them sits by Lila which takes the class aback- it's impossible to separate Adrien and Marinette.
"You're making me split up with my life partner?" Adrien presented a kicked puppy look, clutching onto the hem of Marinette's jacket and furrowing his brows. His emeralds glittered, hoping that he misheard Mademoiselle. Bustier's request.
"Adrien," Caline sighed tiredly. She didn't have enough caffeine in her system to handle the boy's usual clingy kitten-like shenanigans and had a workload of teaching stuff to get through. "It's only temporarily. Lila is a new girl and she'll need all the help she can get. Marinette isn't going to flee to New York with Lila in her arms in a span of a few hours."
The cat hero in disguise then turned to Marinette, eyebrows pleading for her to say something in his defence.
"Come on, it's just for a day. I've been slacking in my class president duties as well so...please?" The model was unfortunately always a sucker for her sparkling bluebells, rolling his eyes in annoyance and then nodding. Marinette gave him a quick appreciative kiss on his cheek, gaining one back on the corner of her lips and then ushered him to the seat next to Nathaniel before sitting down next to Lila.
Lila and Marinette hit off really well from then- or so Marinette thought at first.
She couldn't help but feel slightly off around Lila, especially with the latter eagerly chattering about the 'charitable' work she did in Achu and then also completely flattering Marinette regarding the work she did for Jagged Stone and the fashion competitions she won. Marinette didn't even tell her about those achievements.
Adrien didn't like how Lila clung to Marinette's arm like a persistent clam, fingers sometimes trailing up the designer's arm and said designer visibly grimacing at her actions. Marinette felt majorly uncomfortable but didn't want to be rude or overreact.
She, Alya and the rest of her girl group had little to no boundaries when it came to touching, overly affectionate like sisters- so why did Lila's touch feel like poison slithering through her veins?
Why do her fingers often brush against her midriff or upper thighs...?
Whenever Adrien tried to get to Marinette, Lila would blatantly lead the designer away or elsewhere, especially in a big crowd where a fuss can easily be made. Alya pointed out that if Adrien took their friend away from there without any subtlety, he'd be labelled as dangerously clingy and undesirable rumours could start.
After all, teenagers loved a good, juicy gossip regardless if said rumours were true. And what was juicier than the idea of golden students turning out to be delinquents or even freaky?
He tried to calm himself down and think of a plan to free his Lady from the new girl's grasps but as soon as he saw Lila lean close into Marinette's face (which was paling ferociously like a ghost as she was trying to back away), he snapped.
"Excuse me, I need to borrow her for a second."
Marinette felt an iron, familiar grip on her wrist and she was immediately tugged out of Lila's harsh grasp, led away from the playground and into the lone, empty lockers room. She didn't even need to look up to know that it was Adrien who led her away; his touch committed to memory as easily as breathing.
When she finally regained her bearings, she noticed how her Chaton was practically seething on the spot, glaring out of the door so ferociously, she could have sworn it would have set on fire. Probably to see if Lila followed. Thankfully, luck was on his side for once as other students went up to her, curious about the new girl and bursting with questions.
With Alya and Nino stealthily leading the fray back there, Adrien was convinced that they were safe from the olive-eyed girl's presence for now.
Plagg and Tikki flew out of their respective hiding places, nuzzling Marinette and Adrien on each cheek before leaving to give them some privacy. The model then faced the love of his life, smoothing his hands on her shoulders and giving them a reassuring squeeze.
"Hey, breathe. You're shaking like a leaf." The familiarity of his sweet, lively emeralds brought Marinette back to the real world, glancing at her hands that were indeed trembling vigorously. She took in a few deep breaths as per his instructions, falling into Adrien's warm embrace.
It took her a few minutes to completely calm down, with the safety of his tender kisses on her hair and his strong, pleasant arms around her body, rocking them both slowly back and forth.
"I...I'm freaking Ladybug...I shouldn't be scared of a girl advancing on me..." She mumbled out loud. Adrien felt himself stiffen and his hold on her tightened. "We're girls- it's normal for girls to touch each other in places...right?"
Adrien pulled away just a bit so that he could face her. Raw, scorching anger simmered within his veins as his Lady's lips continued to wobble and her sky blues shimmered with unshed tears.
"No, it's not normal for strangers to place their hands all over you without permission. It doesn't matter what sex you are or how close you are- no one has the right to touch you in a way that makes you feel so scared and uncomfortable." His voice took on a grave, threatening tone. Similar to the one he used when Théo was shamelessly staring at Ladybug like a greedy predator despite her 'husband' standing right by.
Being in the fashion and modelling industry, as well as a globally known brand, meant that even Adrien himself has dealt with his fair share of nasty people attempting to cop a feel or get in close with malicious intentions which is why he has a bodyguard in the first place.
Seeing that the girl he loves more than anything in the world going through the same horrible experiences made him want to scream and mercilessly tear apart the person that-
"I know that...I know...so why do I keep justifying her actions? She said 'We could be great friends' and leaned in...I never wanted to run away so badly..." Marinette's sentence ended in a teary whisper, fingers clawing at his shirt, making Adrien push her face into his chest again.
"I'm going to kill her-"
"Don't! Adrien no! That's wrong-"
"I don't care!" His fingers sunk into her shoulders, a scowl plastered on his face and his eyes dangerously gleamed in a manner that would make one guess his feline alter-ego. "No one gets away with doing THAT to you. Nobody!"
"You're better than this Adrien, come on. I'm okay now. I was just startled-"
"Stop. Stop that. Stop downplaying your feelings! You're the one who taught me to stand up for myself, to not let people use me as a doormat, to tell my own father how I really feel about the extra-curriculars I have to do or the lack of time we used to spend with each other. So take your advice and tell her off at the very least, please! Or tell Mademoiselle. Bustier so that she can help. Anything!" His eyebrows furrowed desperately as Adrien leaned his forehead against hers. His hands trailed to her soft cheeks, cupping them with such benevolence and unconditional love.
"It's easier to give advice than to take them it seems," Marinette giggled, loving how Adrien let his lips straighten into a 'Really?' look. The girl then frowned, looking away. "I can't really file a complaint without proof. If it was a guy doing it, the school would have taken it seriously. But since Lila is a girl and I'm a girl..."
"Fucking double standards..." The blonde spat out with indignation, much to Marinette's silent surprise. "You could fix that ya know, you're the class rep,"
"Yes but also, what if Lila claims it's an Italian thing and then bursts into tears for making this situation bigger than it is? What if it is really a cultural difference? I'll feel so bad..."
"You're the victim here Marinette. You're the one who got scared and uncomfortable. Alya and I and I think Nino too, saw the way she touched you and the way she smirked at your terrified expressions- it was inappropriate and disgusting. I'll report to Mademoiselle myself if you're not going to do it," The girl in his arms looked up like a deer in headlights, shaking her head with a small 'No!'. "Or you could come with me? Alya and Nino are witnesses- four against one. Surely action will be taken then?"
Marinette's frown only deepened.
"Come on, maybe this could give Lila a wake-up call? Improve on her behaviour? Stop touching others so familiarly and coming across as creepy? We could befriend her properly if she fixes up." This got the girl to look up, a hopeful smile on her lips. "There's my girl," Adrien chuckled, kissing her forehead.
Next, the quad quietly filed their complaints to their teacher about the incident. Marinette wanted it to be kept as a private matter since she didn't want to tarnish Lila's reputation. She genuinely believed that there is probably some good in Lila and she knew that the students in their school aren't above spreading unsightly rumours if they got even as much as a peep of the event.
Caline rounds just Lila and Marinette up to discuss the matter. As Marinette predicted, Lila burst into tears 'apologetically', running into the girls' bathroom. The heroine didn't think twice to run after her, ignoring her teacher's exclaims and her trio of friends who were waiting (eavesdropping) outside the room. They're called in by Caline (much to their protests) so that she can explain that perhaps Lila hasn't been educated on social boundaries and what lines cannot be crossed.
Meanwhile, when Marinette found Lila 'sobbing' in the toilets, she tried to calm her down.
This takes a complete, one-hundred and eighty-degree turn.
Lila exclaimed that she didn't want Marinette coming even near her. How she felt so humiliated, gross and disgustedly offended that Marinette even dared to think that her affections were a form of harassment. She went on a rant about how she will never have any friends now, how she'll get looked down upon by their peers and how it's like her old school all over again with everyone bullying her.
"I can't believe you ruined my life like that Marinette...I thought you were a good person!"
Lila stormed out as a shocked and distraught looking Marinette completely froze on the spot, shaking anew. The brunette's crocodile tears were wiped away and a smug, sinister grin crept on Lila's face.
'Now you can never leave me, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. You will be MINE.'
The akumatised butterfly does manage to clasp onto Marinette, however, thanks to Tikki's pleadings and her strong will, the girl fights off the akumatisation. Neither of them notes how hesitant Le Papillon was in Marinette's head, how shocked he was when he realised that her sorrows and emotions were strong enough to lure him in. How he didn't even fight back to keep her reeled in.
She collapsed on the floor from pure exhaustion alone, completely forgetting about the butterfly that fluttered out of the bathroom. She thanked Tikki for her support, finally seeing how manipulative Lila's words were be it intentionally or unintentionally, how this was none of Marinette's fault from the start.
Marinette then remembered about the loose Akuma and immediately darted out in pursuit.
Meanwhile, the trio of friends was escorted back into the classroom but Adrien quips that he needed the bathroom. Caline saw past his lie but let him go regardless. It was a pure miracle that she kept Adrien and Marinette apart for so long anyways.
Agreste comes across Rossi midrun. They both have an intense stare-off, one hoping that the other didn't see her malevolent smirk whilst the other spotted it a million miles away. Adrien's face then twisted into a threatening glower.
"A-Adrien? Why are you looking at me like that? I thought Mademoiselle. Bustier fixed the matter-"
"I've been surrounded by lying, fake, atrocious people all my life. I know you're one of them too." The boy growled back. A part of him wanted to embrace his destructive, dark nature and claw the insufferable girl's face off whilst the other, bigger, better part of him needed to check on his princesse.
"...You're not as angelic as everyone else described, you know." The sarcastic, dry tone was such a huge contrast against the fake shy, sweet voice she tried serenading the class with. He very much preferred the real deal.
"Not when it comes to anyone hurting my partner." He snarled. His nails dug into his palms. It took everything for him to restrain himself but knowing his Lady would be disappointed if he didn't keep him at bay. Lila simply scoffed, crossing her arms, tempting him to stray from his restraints.
"I'd watch what I say if I were you, Agreste. You sound so possessive...so angry...those types of boys are usually kept away from sweet little princesses like Marinette. One scream from me, one shout, and everyone will come aiding me no matter how much they claim to love you." Boldly, she flicked his cheek with a sickly sweet smile and mock affection, relishing the way he bristled up and the colourful insults he let out. She stalked off triumphantly as Adrien ran off in search of Marinette.
Lila wasn't worried. Once she had Marinette wrapped around her little finger where she belonged, Adrien would undoubtedly follow without a beat and then she'll rule the school with her gorgeous Prince and beautiful Princess by her sides like the Queen she is. Her social life will be glorious!
She caught a flutter of dark wings nearby- her smirk widened to the point that it would rival one of Chat Noir's insane grins and she pounced.
Adrien and Marinette finally caught each other, the former fussing over her, asking if she was okay. The sudden shout of an Akuma in the distance snapped them out of their conversation, both failing to address their encounters with Lila. Marinette didn't waste time, dragging them both inside the nearest cleaner's closet and pulling Adrien in for a kiss.
This kiss was messy, desperate and full of frustration.
Their superhero suits were quick to encase them but they kept on kissing as if their lives depended on it, grabbing onto each other without a beat, tugging at each others' hair, letting their feelings cascade out. It was all teeth and tongue and harsh crashes of lips and chests.
By the time Ladybug had wrestled Chat against the wall with her teeth sinking into his neck and their fingers entwined, another scream echoed outside, a familiar voice yelling Nino's name.
They had no choice but to pull away reluctantly and speed out.
The fight goes on similarly to canon except Chameleon took the form of Nino instead of Adrien from the start, wreaking havoc in the arrondissement.
Towards the end, they found out it was Lila who was akumatised. Ladybug looked at her sympathetically but then she noticed how Chat watched Lila with both confusion and steaming hatred.
"She was smiling like she won the lottery when I last saw her. How did she get akumatised so quickly?" Chat eyed the Italian cautiously, leading Ladybug away by hand instinctively till she whipped her yoyo out and they simultaneously leapt away, missing Lila's pissed off gaze on their forms.
"What do you mean smiling? She was crying so badly when she ran out of the bathroom...I thought I ruined her life as she proclaimed..." Ladybug added.
Chat Noir narrowed his eyes in deep thoughts and his partner followed suit until they both suddenly looked at each other with matching gaping expressions.
It all finally...clicked.
"She...she faked everything...the whole crying out of Mademoiselle. Bustier's staff room and bathroom were all fake...to make me feel bad...but why...?"
"That's why she looked so damn proud of herself- but that doesn't explain the Akuma. Those things only go after negative emotions-" He then peered back at Ladybug, suddenly taken aback by her guilty, small look.
All that he saw was red.
"Bug. Were you almost akumatised...because of HER?" Ladybug's silence was all that Noir needed. Enraged, he made his way back to La Tour Eiffel, thirsting for the blood of the girl...the MONSTER that dared to create the whole mess in the first place.
He didn't expect his transformation to dissipate mid-jump, quickly saved by Ladybug's well-timed yoyo, dropping them both down a secluded alleyway. Her transformation fell too.
"Adrien. We are heroes. Do not hurt her." Instead of answering, Adrien slipped his ring off and laid it next to Plagg who laid down with exhaustion and a block of cheese. He stormed towards Marinette, hands trembling but successfully taking off her earrings, laying them by Tikki who was by her counterpart along with a cookie. Marinette didn't even flinch from the intensity of his eyes.
She let him crush his lips against hers. Let him push her against the wall. Let him kiss her senseless without care about school or their classmates or anything else. All that mattered was each other. She finally closed her eyes, arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.
By the time Marinette and Adrien made it back to class, everyone teased their dishevelled looks, swollen lips and messy hair. Innuendos and wolf whistles were shared. At this rate, their classmates have all simultaneously agreed that the pair were dating and were terribly trying to keep it a secret.
The duo ignored Lila's presence as they made their way to the back of the room and took the empty seats there.
They vowed to not only protect each other but also everyone else around Lila's presence. If they wanted her to be caught and learn to be a better person, they'll need to be patient and smart. Especially with Le Papillon's Akumas lurking around. Thankfully, Alya was an aspiring journalist and Nino was quite perceptive so they could help the heroes in disguise out.
"This is War." Lila mouthed, the same devilish smile stuck on her face before it twisted into that sickly saccharine smile, yelling out her goodbyes to both Adrien and Marinette before making way to her new friends with people from other classes.
She should have known better than to challenge the heroes of Paris.

A/N: Hope you fellas liked this chapter. Personally, I'm really not fond of the whole "LILA NEEDS TO BE TAKEN DOWN ASAP AND BE TAUGHT A LESSON" trope movement lmao. I enjoy her character and the way she can be utilised for the plot and I love the few stories out there that make her karma delicious and milk all the potential she has. I tried to make this chapter as realistic as it would be in an actual school around my time (the show is still taking place in 2015 and I was still in school in that year) so we're not gonna have teachers suddenly expel her in an instant.
After all, we all know how lenient they usually are with the misbehaving students LOL.
Also, I love the idea of Lila aiming for both Marinette and Adrien because both of them in the lenses of a school kid are a key to popularity and power.
Anyways, lemme know what you thought in the comment section! See ya whenever.
