Was watching (illegal) fireworks and felt the need... Happy Fourth of July...or if you're not American, Happy Tuesday.


A series of whistles and booms pierced the relatively silent night.

"What was that?" questioned a startled Elizabeth, on her way to her office with Rodney at her side.

A breathless young technician ran by, turning briefly to speak to his boss. "Dr. Weir! Outside…you have to see it….amazing!" And he continued on his way.

Elizabeth and Rodney hurried to the nearest balcony just in time for the next loud boom. Elizabeth gasped and pointed to the sky.

"Look! Fireworks!"

"Sheppard." was Rodney's answer to her surprised look. "It's the Fourth of July back home, and he thought you Americans should have a chance to celebrate. Besides," he added as an afterthought, "Teyla's never seen fireworks before. He said he thought it would be romantic."

"They are beautiful." Elizabeth answered as they stared out at the lights exploding over the water. "Back home I'd never miss the fireworks on the fourth. If I couldn't see them live I'd at least watch them on TV. I loved every minute of it."

"They're too loud." Rodney complained. Elizabeth glared at him for trying to ruin her fun and he changed his tactics. "But you're right," he sighed, "they are beautiful." He reached over and put his arm around her.

Elizabeth hesitated, then leaned her head against his shoulder and relaxed in his embrace. They stood like that for the rest of the show. When the lights finally died down, the remained in the same positions, Elizabeth lost in memories of home and Rodney concentrating on the present. At last Elizabeth lifted her head.

"That was amazing." She said softly, looking into his eyes.

"Happy Fourth of July, 'Lizabeth."

As a response, Elizabeth leaned forward and pressed her lips gently against his.
