"Saoirse Summers, alright then." Aizawa stated.
"Yes, I'm 23 years old, 179 cm in height, blood type B+." Saoirse stated with a blank expression.
"How did you get into the school?" Aizawa asked.
"I don't know."
"I find that hard to believe."
In the dead of night, Aizawa, Midnight, Detective Tsukauchi, and Principal Nezu sat in a gray room, all "interviewing" Saoirse Summers, a stranger in this place. She appeared so suddenly, and her behavior was just as mysterious as her entrance to this school. How can a bolt of lightning, one in a clear sky, transport this stranger into a place as secure as U.A.?
"You managed to teleport here without any interference, and especially after what happened to All Might over the summer," Tsukauchi stated. "Why now?"
"I was researching the Beach and accidentally Jumped to it." Saoirse answered.
Everyone looked at each other in silence, Aizawa's stoic eyes meeting Midnight's, whose glare spoke both confusion and focus. Then, they glanced back over at Saoirse.
"Look I have no idea where I even am aside from this school," Saoirse stated with a sudden dose of emotion. "One moment I was in my home with my brother, next thing I know I'm on the Beach with this kid."
"Kid? Who was it?" Midnight asked, leaning forward on the table.
Saoirse glanced at the surface, the hard table quickly turning into gray grains of sand.
"It was a boy, looked to be around 15 or 16. The strangest thing about him was that his head… was a bird's head."
Aizawa gasped quietly.
"You saw Tokoyami?!" He asked as his heart rate jumped.
"Tokoyami? So that's his name?" Saoirse asked.
"Yes, Fumikage Tokoyami, he's one of our students and he was… abducted earlier today." Nezu explained.
"Abducted? What do you mean?"
Aizawa carefully considered his words, wondering if he could, no… if he should trust this stranger…
"Our morning routine began today until Tokoyami started coughing, then he vomited this black substance none of us could identify."
"What happened next?" Saoirse asked with a rising voice. "Tell me you washed that stain off your body!"
Tsukauchi stood up with his hand on his hip, while Midnight had a finger ready over her outfit. Aizawa however…
GLARE
His eyes turned a blood red as he stared at Saoirse, his hair flowing into the air as a result.
"Some kind of creature appeared shortly after… and I watched it swallow Tokoyami into that pit where it came from. Then it vanished along with the pool."
"It vanished just like that?!" Saoirse cried.
"Yes. How do you know-"
"This is bad, this is horrible!" Saoirse erupted. "And your students were caught in that as well?! I need to see them immediately!"
Saoirse shook slightly, but the chains keeping her in place kept her tight in her seat.
"You're not going anywhere until we finish first." Tsukauchi cried. "We're under a state of unrest outside and as such I can't let you go wherever you please!"
"You're a police officer right? Like the ones I've read about with my brother?" Saoirse asked.
"Detective."
"Then please! Send someone to those kids, they have no idea what chiralium will do to them if they don't get themselves cleaned!"
"Slow down." Aizawa said as he sat down again. Suddenly, he placed a finger on his left ear. "Snipe, head to the 1-A dorms and make sure everyone's safe."
BZZT
"You got it Eraser."
Aizawa then stared back at Saoirse, who was beginning to sweat from the heat.
"Why don't we start from the beginning then, we want to know more about you and… where it is that you came from." He said quietly as he brushed his hair with his hand. Midnight and Nezu remained focused, and as for Tsukauchi, he pulled out a pocket watch.
CLICK
He sat down and placed his hands on the table, setting the watch on the clean surface.
"You said your name is Saoirse Summers, where did you come from?" He asked.
"I live on the outskirts of Mirror Knot City with my brother."
Tsukauchi raised his eyebrows.
"'Mirror Knot City?' Never heard of it." He said.
"Then where are we now?"
"We're in U.A. High school, in Japan." Midnight answered.
"Japan?" Saoirse asked with shock. Her eyes glowed with intrigue. "I-I see…"
"Where exactly is this Mirror Knot located?"
Saoirse looked upward.
"New York."
Everyone in the room gasped, and Aizawa placed his hands firmly on the table.
"I've never heard of a Quirk that teleports people across entire continents, let alone the world."
"That's the second time you've said that word, 'Quirk.'" Saoirse analyzed. "What are Quirks? You describe them as if they're superpowers."
"That's because they are powers Ms. Summers,"
Everyone glanced at Nezu, who took another whiff of his cigarette, the smoke filling the room with a foul scent.
"I guess there's no avoiding it, but roughly 80% of the global population is born with some kind of Quirk," he explained. "These Quirks have existed for decades and have been categorized depending on their traits."
"I see." Saoirse stated. "So… you being able to talk-"
"Is my Quirk!" Nezu said cheerfully. "I'm the rare case of an animal developing a Quirk and because of that I have an IQ of 250!"
"Two hundred- Jesus…" Saoirse cried.
"It's true! But I am merely an example in an infinite sea of Quirks, all of our students here at U.A. have some kind of Quirk they were born with. And on top of that we have a course that allows some of our students to become the next generation of Heroes."
Saoirse grunted.
"Heroes? You mean superheroes like Superman and Wonder Woman?"
The teachers glanced at each other.
"I've… never heard of them before…" Midnight stated.
"What?! The Man of Steel? The Amazing Amazon?" Saoirse cried. "Heartman let me borrow his copies of those old comics, I shared them with my brother and he was absorbed by them almost instantly!"
Midnight shook her head.
"Never heard of them." she said. "But that's besides the point. As Nezu said roughly 80% of the Earth's population is born with a Quirk, while the other 20% are Quirkless, or those who are simply 'normal' human beings."
"That being said, Quirks have become so common that it's now the 'new normal.'" Aizawa continued. "Quirks abilities are many and varied, some of them are known as 'Emitters' which allow their users to use their abilities whenever they please. The majority of my class has Emitter students."
"Then there's Heteromorphs," Tsukauchi picked up. "Those born with Heteromorphic Quirks have their bodies altered, they can look like animals, have extra appendages, sometimes their skin color can change or they can even grow in size."
"Unfortunately…" he continued. "Those born with Heteromorphic Quirks have been the target of mass discrimination and hate crimes, I've had my fill of those cases when I first started.."
"I- I'm sorry…" Saoirse said quietly.
"Don't be," Tsukauchi stated. "Then there's the Transformation Quirks, which allow their users to transform a part of, or their entire bodies. Unlike Heteromorphs, Transformation users can change their bodies at will."
"And that brings us back to one of the most rare Quirk types… Teleportation." Midnight said. "It's extremely rare for someone to be born with a Quirk that allows them to teleport to other locations. Sometimes they have a small distance but there have been some cases of teleportation between entire regions."
"And given what happened today, we believe you have a Teleportation Quirk." Nezu said. "You 'appeared' right in front of our students from a lightning bolt during a clear sky. That's impossible unless you used a Quirk to get here."
"So given everything we just explained, how did you teleport into U.A.?" Aizawa asked.
Saoirse remained silent, her eyes fixed on the watch. Her aura felt… empty, lost, abandoned, and Aizawa, even in his cold nature, could sense some kind of… sadness. The walls closed in, the lights loomed, and the air felt thick from Nezu's cigarette. Tsukauchi leaned back slightly while Midnight remained focused, yet Saoirse was… lost.
"If what you're saying is true, then let me add to this," Aizawa stated. "The number one Hero in the world, All Might, was defeated a month ago, and was forced into early retirement. He fought a villain who we now know is a man named 'All for One.'"
"A villain strong enough to go toe-to-toe with All Might, and even though he lost, he still technically 'won,' and we've lost our pillar, our Symbol of Hope." Nezu continued.
Saoirse remained silent.
"Given your current behavior.. It's almost like you're hiding something…" Tsukauchi stated, his face became tense. "You're not associated with this man are you? Are you working with the League of Villains?"
"Funny…"
Saoirse raised her head.
"A world where Heroes and Villains really exist… straight out of those comics. "She chuckled. "This is… this is exactly what I've been looking for!"
"What are you talking about?" Aizawa asked impatiently. Saoirse raised her head and stared directly at him, her eyes glowing with a strange… admiration.
"It's like I told you earlier, I will tell you the truth and explain all I can to the best of my ability." She stated. "Then let's start here, I'm a scientist whose purpose is to study the Beach and try to understand DOOMS."
Everyone looked at each other, and then… they silently looked at Tsukauchi. The detective raised his brow, and nodded quietly, his pocket watch still sitting on the table.
"Have you ever heard of the concept of a multiverse?" Saoirse asked. "The idea is that there are multiple universes that exist outside of our own. We may exist on this Earth, but on another Earth, somewhere out there, another version of us made a different kind of decision."
"Maybe, they have a different personality altogether, a different background, be it ethnic, financial, religious, anything." Saoirse continued. "Well…"
"If I really am 'here' and if what you're all telling me is true, then my theory that other worlds truly exist… is correct!"
Everyone gasped at the revelation, shivers sent down their spines.
"That's… impossible." Midnight stuttered.
"Are you saying that you're from another universe? Another world? I find that incredibly hard to believe." Aizawa said with an angered voice.
"But it's true, I really do think I've been transported here from the Beach!" Saoirse stated. "I shouldn't be here, I should be back home with my brother, Jesus it's already bad enough he's a Porter but he's only 15!"
"Okay… okay… slow down." Aizawa said as he took several breaths. "We've told you about Quirks and our current situation, so now it's your turn. If what you're saying is true and that you're from another 'world' then tell us how and why you're here."
Saoirse looked at them all, her face filled with determination and resolve.
"Many years ago… there was an 'event' that… led to the end of everything."
"The Death Stranding…"
The others sat in silence as Saoirse continued her story.
"No one knows what caused the Death Stranding, it's something that several of my colleagues and I are still trying to understand, but right now? It caused an apocalypse. The United States has been completely isolated from the rest of the world, even Canada and Mexico."
Aizawa grunted under his breath.
"But we do this; that event changed everything. Our connection to death itself has… gotten stronger. Because of that, we discovered a place called the Beach, the realm that exists between life and death."
"When a person dies, their soul wakes up on the Beach, and I've been there myself."
"Hold on, you mean… you've died?" Midnight asked.
"No, I have the ability to 'Jump' there." Saoirse answered.
"How, was it the same way you teleported here?"
"No, I 'Jump' by using my DOOMS, and I can pass between any place and the Beach freely. So like you said earlier, yes I can teleport."
"But anyway, the Beach acts as a 'rope' if you will, to the 'Other Side.' The afterlife." She continued. "Because of that… things changed. The arrival of those… *huff* monsters… the manifestation of DOOMS, chiralium, Timefall, everything is tied to the Beach. And I have to find out if there are other worlds out there."
The room fell silent once more.
"If you want me to continue with the details I'd be happy to-"
"Thank you but, we need to stay focused." Tsukauchi stated. "That's a lot of stuff you threw at us too. Lots of terms and concepts we know nothing about."
"Oh, sorry when I start talking about my research I tend to get a little chat happy." Saoirse chuckled.
"That's completely fine!" Nezu replied. "I'm the same way with the education methods of our students. In any case, could you perhaps rewind a bit? Why don't we start with DOOMS?"
"Ah yes… DOOMS…" Saoirse stated. "The more I think about it, DOOMS isn't that dissimilar from your Quirks."
"How so?" Aizawa asked.
"Well, DOOMS comes with its perks of sorts, for example, it allows us to sense, and sometimes see Beached Things, or BTs." Saoirse explained as she tried to adjust her glasses, her restraints pulling at her arms. "DOOMS is measured in levels, for example I'm Level Three. I can see BTs and I can 'Jump' like I said earlier."
"What's the drawback?" Midnight asked. "Every Quirk has a weakness, there's no expectation to this rule."
"I see… DOOMS is the same actually…" Saoirse stated. "DOOMS allows us to avoid BTs and sense when they're coming, it allows us to teleport like you described, and if someone is Level Seven or higher… we can even control BTs to our will."
"But the problem… are the nightmares… and that every one of us will eventually go insane…"
The room felt cold, dead as Saoirse's words bounced from the walls. Midnight felt her heart rate drop, like her lifeforce was being stolen. Aizawa felt an uneasy aura fill his soul, and Tsukauchi shivered in his seat.
"We're called 'DOOMS Sufferers' because we suffer from these things. Every nightmare I have always shows the same thing. I watch Cathal die, and then… the world ends." Saoirse continued. "My close friend Fragile has had them, so has Cathal, and Heartman… we all see the end of the world…"
"Some people though, they can't take it. They go completely insane and become dangerous. One case I saw when I was only 14 I…"
Saoirse sobbed quietly.
"I watched a man stab his eyes out after killing his own son…"
In that moment, only a cold dread lingered.
"That's what DOOMS does to people, and that's all the more reason why I have to continue my research…" Saoirse said. "But… for right now I try to look at the positives. With my DOOMS I can teleport to other places, I've done it from my home, to my lab at Bridges HQ. I can demonstrate if you'd like. In fact."
"Let's see how different Quirks are from DOOMS."
Aizawa stood up.
"If you really plan on going anywhere then I'm coming with you." he said.
"Eraser, are you sure about this?" Midnight asked.
"Yes, I can always erase her ability after all."
Aizawa steadily moved towards Saoirse, and he pulled out a small key. He insert the device into numerous locks that immediately dropped to the floor upon release. The belts restraining Saoirse's arms were loosened, and the scientist stood upward and rolled her wrists.
"Thank you, that's much better, now onto the demonstration."
"Before you start, I hope you realize that if you try to escape there will be a manhunt out for you. You're a key suspect in this current investigation." Tsukauchi stated.
Saoirse nodded.
"I'm not a damn terrorist if that's what you mean," She scolded. "I just want to help as many people as I can, you have my word on that."
Saoirse swept her lab coat brushing the tassels and coattails behind her, and she stepped away from the table, her heels clicking with every step. Everyone watched her carefully as she adjusted her glasses, and soon after she grabbed a glass of water. She rose it to her lips and drank half of the glass.
"That was refreshing, thank you for letting me use this ahead of time." She said as she held the glass with her hand.
Yet… Saoirse suddenly let it go in the middle of the air, and Aizawa tensed up as if he were ready to dash for it. Midnight widened her eyes in anticipation for the glass to fall and shatter…
Yet it sat in the air… motionless like it was sitting calming atop a lake.
The glass sat still, unmoving as Saoirse moved in a smooth and almost fluid manner. Aizawa and Midnight remained shocked, intrigued by this sudden development as a sense of static and electricity buzzed around them.
"Right now I used my DOOMS to freeze that glass in place, by freezing its physics as well as the time dilation of the object, it's like it's floating on its own." Saoirse explained. "But as I've said multiple times now, that's not the only thing I can do…"
Saoirse looked at Aizawa as he stood behind a chair.
"I'm going to Jump to your left, ready?"
Aizawa looked at the others, Nezu dousing his cigarette in the ash tray, and Midnight crossing her arms. Tsukauchi glanced at his pocket watch once again, and with a trustworthy glare, he nodded. Aizawa took a breath, and returned his focus to Saoirse.
"Do it."
Saoirse nodded quietly, and she closed her eyes. She took a deep breath, feeling the air fill her lungs.
BLINK
Everyone gasped as Saoirse vanished with an orange light flashing for only a second. The air felt burned and singed, and the sound of someone wheezing and choking screeched through the room.
BLINK
As Aizawa turned around, there stood Saoirse as she promised, the burning smell stenching his nostrils.
"Here I am." She said.
"So that's how you teleport?" Midnight asked. "That's quite different from what happened earlier."
"Yeah… I have no idea what that was about." Saoirse chuckled.
"This isn't a joking matter." Aizawa scolded. "One of my students is still missing."
Saoirse gaze turned cold, and her body refocused itself with a strange aura.
"You're right," she said. "But before we continue I have one last request. I want to see what these 'Quirks' can do."
"Fine." Aizawa stated. The man closed his eyes, and took a breath.
GLARE
His irises turned a blood red as he stared at Saoirse, his long and unkempt hair floating upward. Yet Saoirse simply stared back, tilting her head in confusion. She tightened her eyebrows in a denouncing manner, her cheeks wincing at the sight.
"Does this Quirk of yours just turn your eyes red and make your hair float?" She asked.
What the? Aizawa thought.
"Try teleporting again." He said with his Quirk activated.
Saoirse didn't say a word, she let her actions do the talking.
BLINK
An orange light flashed once more and Saoirse vanished from the room…
BLINK
…yet she reappeared where she was the first time, standing at the opposite end of the table, and she grabbed the floating glass of water. The rest of the individuals in there… were at a loss of words.
"Eraser's Quirk had no effect?" Midnight asked with intrigue, along with a modicum of concern.
"Saoirse drank the remaining water in the glass.
"Did I disappoint you all?" She asked in an innocent voice.
"Not at all, you did just fine," Nezu asked, Aizawa approached the others as his hair fell down and his eyes reverted to black. "However, what we just witnessed is a crucial detail, and that's an understatement!"
"It would seem my Quirk has no effect on your DOOMS abilities," Aizawa stated as he took a seat. "Regardless of whether you really decide to help us or not, this information is extremely confidential."
"You're all Heroes is that right?" Saoirse asked. "I'm able to put that much together… you're afraid that this might reach out to villains then?"
"That's exactly correct." Tsukauchi stated as he stood up. He grabbed his brown overcoat and put it on.
"Are we done already detective?" Nezu asked.
"Not in the slightest," He replied with a smirk. "But… I can prove this about you Ms. Summers…"
"You've been telling the truth this whole time."
Saoirse blushed and her eyes widened from the revelation, and Aizawa sighed in gratitude.
"Maybe Eraser's Quirk didn't work on you, but mine did," He said as he grabbed the pocket watch from the table. "Take a look."
Saoirse walked up and gently grabbed the device from the detective's hand. It was a watch made of copper, and the lid opened beautifully with no squeaks or tears. The face of the clock was intricate, as the hands of the device were adorned in several patterns ranging from clever curves and inscribed kanji. The "time" however… was glowing a gentle blue, and it pointed to the stroke of midnight. The number twelve was also glowing a blue, one that reminded Saoirse of an old something from the past…
"This is my Quirk, Truth." Tsukauchi said as Saoirse gave the watch back to him. "I can tell if someone's lying or not thanks to this, and it's been pretty helpful in many cases I've had in the past."
"So I can say in full confidence that you've been telling the truth this whole time. The whole multiverse thing, different worlds, that your scientist…"
"... all those statements about DOOMS and your past…" Aizawa stated. "It was all true."
Saoirse giggled quietly.
"That's incredible!" She said. "So these are Quirks huh? I can't believe it, Cathal would be so happy to be here."
She then turned around and suddenly ran into Aizawa's face. The man grimaced and backed away slightly as she grabbed his hands.
"And your Quirk? What does it do? You all said it has no effect on me though… why is that such an important detail?"
Aizawa grunted under his breath and gently pulled his hand away. He put it on top of Saoirse's and carefully lowered her hands.
"My Quirk is called Erasure and as the name suggests, I can shut down another person's Quirk when I look at them." He said in a deep voice. "But the main draw is that it gives me serious dry eye, so don't make me use it for too long."
"That's still an incredible power you have sir!" Saoirse said excitedly. "It must be useful against those villains you fight."
Aizawa grunted again as Saoirse stepped back.
"But I digress, apologies I just got excited is all." She said.
"No worries!" Nezu cheered as he hopped from his chair. He walked on his two hind legs like any gentleman would, and he approached Saoirse. "That being said, there's still one outstanding issue; the whereabouts of Fumikage Tokoyami. Earlier I recall you saying you saw him on this 'Beach.'"
"Yes, when I saw him he was scared… alone, so I reached out to help him." Saoirse stated. She turned her head so she could speak to the others as well. "He was covered in chiralium and I told him to stay still, I reached out and told him about the Beach. I was going to offer to help him find his way back…"
Saoirse looked away however, looking at her right hand. Her anger rose, and she snapped her head around.
"What do you mean 'were?'" Aizawa asked.
"I was going to help him until that terrorist bastard showed up." Saoirse grunted. "I have no idea how he got onto my Beach but he was there, and he took me hostage. The last thing I remember was having his damn mask forced on my mouth, but I was able to rip it off and get behind him."
"But when I did… something dragged me into the Seam… and next thing I know…"
"I'm in front of your students…"
The orange haired woman lowered her head.
"I'm sorry, I should've done more to protect that boy, it's my fault."
However, as she looked upward, Aizawa placed a hand on her shoulder.
"You did what you could, and it's a good thing you got out alive, that's what matters." He said warmly. "The thing is… if you ended up here, then the only logical option is that Tokoyami… is in your world."
Saoirse's eyes filled with fear.
"You're right… it's the only logical choice. But even still… he shouldn't be there!"
Saoirse's eyes began to water as Midnight approached her.
"Calm down, we can still fix this!"
"You don't understand, your student's not ready for the Hell he's about to go through. My world will eat him alive!"
Yet in that moment, Aizawa stepped forward once again.
"Tokoyami has a strong sense of justice, and he's incredibly cooperative. If you had any friends in that place, I'm sure he'll work with them tirelessly." He said. "I have absolute faith in him."
Saoirse looked at him with confusion.
"You're absolutely sure?" She asked.
"Summers, if you're going to stay here for however long, there's one thing you should know…"
Aizawa suddenly opened the door and motioned for everyone to follow. Midnight pulled Saoirse along while Tsukauchi picked Nezu off the ground and allowed the small principal to sit on his shoulder. Down the hall they went, the moonlit sky peering into the dark halls of U.A. Together the five people walked and walked, passing several classrooms, the cafeteria, library, and soon after the main hall. The main doors were all that stood.
"U.A. is the best Hero school in Japan," Aizawa stated. "We don't have that name just for show, some of the top Heroes in the country, including All Might and Endeavor, attended this institution."
"He's quite correct in that statement," Nezu continued. "We pride ourselves on that merit, and based on what happened over the summer, I believe the students are more than ready to become the next pillars of society."
Saoirse was in awe of the sudden speech, and together the group stepped outside, entering the tunnel of cherry blossom trees. The pink pedals littered the pavement as they all headed for the dorms, one by one stepping on the beauty of the scene.
"I've seen what all of our students can accomplish, from our first-years up to those ready to graduate," Midnight continued as they moved forward, Height's Alliance coming into view. "Sure, Class 1-A may just be kids…"
"But they've been to Hell and back… and they've become stronger because of it."
Saoirse turned her head to the right as the teachers continued.
"Tokoyami isn't just some kid, he's one of the best students in that class, one of the strongest as well." Midnight continued. "I've seen him grow so much since he and the rest of his class first stepped on our grounds, in fact, he might be one of the more creative students when it comes to thinking on the fly."
"He's nowhere near the same level as Midoriya or Yaoyorozu… but his potential is just as strong as those two… so let's get one thing clear, Summers." Aizawa stated.
In a flash, the group was sitting outside Class A's dorm building, the towering structure housing the remaining 19 members of them all. Aizawa however, turned around facing everyone, his exhausted eyes filled with… confidence.
"Tokoyami will become a great Hero some day, and with whatever the hell's going on, he'll break through it with everything he has."
"That's what it means to go Plus Ultra."
Saoirse watched with a starstruck eye as Aizawa kept his hands in his pockets, and Tsukauchi and Midnight both joined his side. Midnight crossed her arms over her rather questionable costume, while Tsukauchi kept his hands free, with Nezu riding his shoulder.
"Plus Ultra is our school motto, meaning 'Go Beyond,'" Nezu stated. "We always strive to surpass even the most impossible outcomes, and given the situation… we'd be honored to have you strive towards that future with us."
"What?" Saoirse asked. "I've only been in this world for a few hours. Why do you all trust me so much?"
"Because you have abilities beyond our understanding, if word got out to the media there'd be an entire hassle for you, and possibly the whole country, maybe the world." Tsukauchi stated.
"We talked about this heavily before your 'interview,'" Aizawa continued as the group entered the common room. The large green couches and TV shined even in the black of night. Everyone removed their shoes and set them neatly behind the couches. "If you're to be trusted, and since you have so much knowledge we don't know about, it'd be better for you to remain here at the school."
"Ground Zero…" Saoirse stated. "This is where I arrived, and where Tokoyami vanished. I understand now."
"Exactly," Midnight said. "So after everything we discussed, you're confined to the school grounds indefinitely."
"But of course we will provide the utmost care to keep you comfortable!" Nezu continued. "You'll have your own room and access to Lunch Rush's amazing palette and offerings."
"I- thank you, all of you." Saoirse said. "I'm hoping I can be of more help sooner rather than-"
Yet Saoirse never finished her sentence, she felt a tingling sensation that forced her voice to become silent. Her bi-colored eyes darted down to her arm, and she noticed that the small hairs on her right hand shot upward.
"What's wrong?" Tsukauchi asked.
The woman looked upward.
"Something's wrong…" She said.
RUMBLE
"What the?!" She shouted.
The ground shook violently as the earth itself rattled in great force, glasses from earlier fell from the tables and shattering on the ground. A loud booming and cracking sounded into the air as everyone lost their balance.
"It's an earthquake!" Aizawa yelled. "Get down and stay away from the windows!"
The man rushed for Saoirse and together they fell to the ground, with Aizawa covering Saoirse's head. Tsukauchi did the same with Midnight as the rumbling and shattering of the earth continued and raged on. Lights flickered on and off and glass cracked, the vases of Class A teetering back an forth, tables and chais being thrown from their feet, and-
PLUNK
All the world came to a standstill. The rumbling vanished without a trace, and the air simply went quiet. Aizawa looked upward, all four of his limbs still sprawled on the floor, and he slowly raised his head. He helped Saoirse to her feet, and the rest of the group gained their feet.
"What the hell just happened?" Midnight asked she she swept dust off of herself.
"Never had an earthquake last so briefly… was it an explosion?" Tsukauchi asked.
"That can't be correct, the only explosive devices we have are filled with confetti, and even then nothing could cause such a heavy blast."
"It's possible that someone was using their Quirk." Aizawa stated.
Yet Saoirse simply took a step forward… gazing at the class.
"No… I don't think Quirks had anything to do with this…" she whispered.
As the group looked at her in confusion, behind her silhouette laid their answer.
"Okay we need to make sure everyone's fine! We should stay here until- Mr. Aizawa!"
The group of teachers turned as Izuku and the rest of Class A all ran into the room, all of which were still wearing their pajamas and evening gowns.
"What's going on? Was there an earthquake?!" Uraraka asked.
"Yeah it packed a serious punch!" Kaminari added.
"I just want to make sure everyone next door is okay." Asui added.
"Yeah, we need to make sure Class B is safe!" Kirishima cried as he stood next to Shoto.
Aizawa placed his hand over his right ear.
"Vlad can you hear me? Vlad?"
Yet there was only static through his earpiece.
"I can't get through to him either." Midnight added.
CLINK
"Well damn, looks like we're cut off."
Everyone turned as Snipe appeared from the darkness, his shoe spurs clicking with every step, his poncho flowing slightly as his body bobbed up and down.
"Is everyone alright?" Aizawa asked.
"Yes Mr. Aizawa, Snipe had woken us up to make sure we were fine, and we are!" Yaoyorozu stated.
"We're all accounted for… well… except for-"
Yet as soon as Tenya turned his head to look out the window…
"What in the world?!"
Everyone felt their hearts explode as Tenya rushed to the window. Together, all of Class A, the teachers, Tsukauchi, and Saoirse touched the glass. For what they knew as their world… was changed into something else. The world was… submerged in an ocean. Fish were swimming in the sky, water drowning everything in site. Entire whales were calling out, their majestic cries echoing into the common room, and the students couldn't take their eyes off for a single second. Coral had lined the grass, urchins had appeared at the foundation of the dorm building, even cryptobiotes were swimming in the waters. However, the sea itself was gray in color, almost lifeless, and what shook everyone at the core…
Bodies started to appear, all of them stained a jet black.
"Wh-what is all of this?" Mineta asked as he shivered in his evening uniform.
"Are those… people?" Jiro asked as fear ate her alive.
The bodies in the water had their limbs stretched as far as they could go, and they hovered aimlessly in the sea. Some were tilted diagonally, others were hanged upside down, some were staring towards the surface of the water… but they all shared that same lifeless… faceless emptiness.
"Aizawa… do you remember what I told you all earlier?" Saoirse asked.
Everyone looked at the woman as she turned to the crowd, her lab coat reaching down to her legs. Her black and white eyes glowing, almost like stars.
"When a person dies, their soul wakes up on the Beach. That place is like a Limbo, no one goes to Heaven or Hell, they just wander… But in order to truly move on… they have to jump into the sea…"
Saoirse then stepped towards the glass. She placed her palm flat against the clear surface, gazing at this ocean of bodies…
"I didn't think it was possible, but… we're in the Seam… the place where souls truly move on to the afterlife…"
And then… she looked up, as a body fell down in front of her
"Ah!" She cried.
There it was, another body…
"Wait, that one is different!" Midnight cried.
The body was indeed strange. It wasn't black like the others. This person was clearly visible, his skin was a light gray, almost white in color, and strangely… the person was completely naked.
"Wait that's!" Izuku screamed.
And as the front of the body twisted into view, the entire class felt their souls reaching for it. For this person… was someone they held dear…
"TOKOYAMI!"
