?
"Moroes? That doesn't sound… He'll probably need help, huh? I should help him out, then…"
"Er, Robyn?"
"Hey, I'm going to be out for a bit, wait for me."
Moroes
So far, my plan has been to find a library or the equivalent of it in this world and simply read as much as I can to avoid unnecessary attention from asking basic questions such as locations or names.
Unfortunately, the universe must be actively sabotaging me, as I have yet to find a single person able to tell me where the library is.
The only good thing I've encountered is the confirmation that the library does exist, as someone's sister goes there often, but doesn't actually know where it is himself.
On the brighter, yet still dark side, I have been using observe, and it has been a wonderful tool in order to help me put names on things.
Scrolls, for example. They seem to be some sort of futuristic type of phone, judging from their description…
However, this entire city does still feel industrial at its heart, no matter the futuristic elements that decorate it.
…He does miss the bright white concrete from Deika. Ah, the suburbs, such a nice place. If only he could've seen Deika evolve into a true city with towering skyscrapers…
"Hey! Birdbrain!" A voice shouts out at me from behind.
…Ah, insults never change inbetween worlds…
Looking behind me, I see a group of 4 men, and judging by their clothing, they're likely delinquents.
Using observe on them… Level 10 on each of them. Their strength and endurance is high, but that's about it. 500 health on each of them may be a problem though…
However, if they're here to attempt to fight me, it'll be a welcome distraction from my current failures. I have been itching to fight something recently…
Quickly looking around our surroundings, which is mostly vacant with the exception of a few passerbys, only giving a glance at our situation, giving a wide eyed look at me, and then leaving anyways, perhaps taking a picture on the way out…
Yes, this is a fine place to fight.
"If you wish to fight…" I begin, "I welcome the distraction. However, I am a kind man. I will allow you to leave if that is not what you want." I reason, revealing all of my cards so soon would be disadvantageous.
The supposed gang leader scoffed, "Hah! Trying to intimidate us? You should've just stayed in your tree! Get em, boys!"
Predictably, they did not take my offer.
About to raise my hand to fire off a nature's force, another voice forcibly came and stopped them.
"And what do we have here?!"
The group stopped and turned around, and I decided that I should let it play out and not use my ability just yet. It'd be quite a shame if I were to waste mana on people who were about to get chewed up anyways.
"Er," The leader stuttered, "It was… Uh…"
Looking past the group and using observe…
Someone named Robyn Hill, levels in the 70s…
…And what the hell is an aura?
"I won't tolerate it in this city! I'll let you off the hook just this once, but if I see you again, you're toast!" Robyn glared, pointing behind her in a gesture of 'get out.'
And they all booked it.
Clearly, Robyn was a person of influence. Perhaps a crime lord, then?
After they had all gone away, Robyn directed her attention to me and gave a look over.
"...Huh, is that all natural?" She asked curiously.
The question raised some flags in my head…
Clearly, they somewhat knew something close to me, but I must be an abnormality… The guard mentioned faunus. Perhaps faunus are something akin to minor mutations? Then that means there are no previous examples of someone having a full on animal meta ability, so while they do seem to accept my existence, it may be out of politeness that they do not bombard me with questions…
Or perhaps this is a human dominated city, and there are others like me in another part of the world?
Well, regardless, it's clear that, at least in this city, I am the anomaly.
"Yes, of course." I answered instead, "I had been looking for a library until those…" I hesitate, looking for a word that might not offend her if she is a part of organized crime, as in a fight between her and I, it's likely I'll lose, "...Gentlemen, decided to try and fight me. Obviously, I would've been fine without you, but I thank you for saving just a bit of my time."
Robyn smirks and gives a thumbs up, "Don't mention it! Anyways, you're new to the city, right? Where are you trying to go?"
"The library," I replied. There's a high likelihood that she'll know this basic information. Whether she be gang leader or celebrity, basic knowledge of her city should be a given, yes?
Robyn gives me a weird look, "...It's 4 blocks right of you. But why are you looking for the library?"
"I…" Hesitate, coming up with a story, "Well, presumably, the library has some information about the city, yes? And I would like to avoid as much attention as possible, so I would prefer to read about the city instead of asking around like a hapless tourist."
That… Wasn't a bad story. In fact, it's exactly what I'm here to do.
Robyn seemed a bit more relaxed now, "Ah! Yeah, sure. But I have some time, I'll take you to the library, and I can answer some of your questions while you're reading, if you don't mind?"
…This seemed extremely suspicious, however, it would be even more suspicious if I were to deny her…
Well, I suppose I'll have to come up with a story on why I'm reading such basic information, then. I truly hope that Robyn isn't a nefarious person…
Then again, he is the villain player. Perhaps getting a few allies would help out in the long run… No matter the status of whatever is the equivalent of meta abilities in this world.
"Of course… My name is Moroes, but you likely already know that," I say, remembering we hadn't formally introduced each other, "And you?"
"Robyn Hill. Don't have a family name?" She introduced and asked.
Ah, yes, those…
"...August."
When in doubt, birthday month.
Qrow
Jesus christ, was he drunk or something?
Because last he checked, all of these damn villages didn't exist a day ago!
He's been flying around in his crow form today because he got a gut instinct that something bad was about to happen, and if he knew what happened, he would've just stayed home…
Seriously, new village there, new village there, one of them was even populated with only faunus.
He would've gone down there to find information himself, but for now, he's been sending Ozpin the locations of all of these villages. He's going to ask for a bigger paycheck if he finds more of these…
Damn…
Villages?
Ahead of him, he sees some sort of giant… Flying bat grimm? It certainly didn't look like a traditional bat… It's more like some kind of bat-crawler thing with torn wings…
Looking below, he sees even more grimm that he clearly doesn't remember seeing. Hell, he's pretty sure their numbers are in the hundreds, and all of them look like they're barely the size of Zwei…
…Shit, did these new villages bring more grimm variants?
This better not be some kind of international incident…
Ah, damn it all, these new grimm are going to be appearing everywhere, aren't they? Not to mention their small size and massive numbers is going to cause a lot of problems… All perfectly supported by the massive fliers in the sky that look like they could do some serious damage in both ground and air…
Ugh, this is the worst part of his job. He's not someone who's good at controlling panic…
Moroes
Quest obtained.
Battlefield of Wits
In the library with a possible ally? Foe? Bystander? Who knows?
Objective: Get out of the library in a better position than you were before.
Reward: 1 gacha token, 800 exp.
…Thank you, system.
"...History of Remnant? Aura and how to understand it? Moroes, these are all things you should've learned when you were younger. Weren't you here for city information?" Robyn asked, her suspicion immediately rising most likely due to the books I've chosen to take to our table.
To be fair to myself, I did have a variety of other books that did touch upon this city… And almost everything in the education section, however, details.
This library was almost empty either way, and we were sitting in a far off corner. Nobody will hear our conversation unless if they actively sought it out. And this early into my prologue? It is unlikely anyone will.
"Hm, perhaps this city has a different way of talking about certain details on certain topics?" I said offhandedly, avoiding Robyn's question. If she kept up her questioning, I might not be a free and alive man much longer…
But to really know that, I need to know what her actual occupation was.
Opening up the book I had on the history of Remnant, the name of this world, if I recall correctly, I asked, "Ah, what did you do for a living, if you do not mind me asking?"
Robyn clearly didn't miss my dismissal of her question, but went along with it anyway, "I'm a huntress who's also a politician. Haven't you seen me on some promotions on big screens around the city?" Robyn replied, taking out… Ah, her 'scroll,' to show one of the aforementioned big screen with her picture on it.
I believe I had seen one of those. However, I was far too preoccupied with my pitiful information gathering to really think about it.
…Politician, however. If I manage to befriend her here, so many doors will be opened…
"I have. However, I was a bit too preoccupied with other business to connect the dots." I replied, reading the book I had opened in front of me.
…Dust. However, the way it was used… It's likely that this 'dust' is not the same sort of dust that gathers in corners. And more mentions of grimm… When I finally get a grasp on the world I've found myself on, it will be a satisfying moment.
Robyn had a thoughtful look on her face, leaning back in her chair, "Hm, that's fine… What are you, then? Just a wandering hermit?"
Closing the history book, as I decided that other information was needed to fully understand that one, I picked up the book on 'dust' and started to read as I replied, "Yes, a wandering hermit would be an accurate description of myself."
…Fire dust? Ice dust? Hm… Are these… Simply just some sort of fantasy magic encased inside of a rock, then? And to have an industry dedicated to it…
…It's their entire power supply? This is eerily familiar to the coal and oil situation… I do quite hope dust isn't as detrimental to the environment as the fossil fuels of Earth were. Otherwise, the children of this world have no future without heavy intervention, such as a meta ability that just so happened to eat all the carbon dioxide around it.
Robyn narrowed her eyes at me, "Then, it's a surprise I haven't heard of you until today, then. With the internet and all, someone like you would be a very famous person."
…Shit.
"Hm, perhaps…" I cryptically say instead, trying to avoid answering the situation.
Flipping through the book on dust for a while, gathering some more names, such as additional dust types, and certain companies, I close the book and move onto the book with aura.
"Perhaps?" Robyn said, "Right. So, why are you, some kind of faunus anomaly, in Mantle? Because if you're a threat to Mantle, I'm perfectly willing to dispose of you right now." Robyn threatened without hesitating, slightly shocking me with the mood shift.
Instead of answering, I kept reading the book on aura…
And was baffled.
Aura is, apparently, the physical manifestation of the soul, which appears as a sort of barrier, which also boosts the aura user's physical ability and recovery. Quite a novel concept, some even thought meta abilities were also manifestations of the soul, and overall, I do quite believe in the concept quite a bit, but of course, there was still discourse on what meta abilities actually were.
The difference between that and this, however, is that is the world wide accepted definition of aura.
…And they do not unlock aura for everyone?
According to the book, grimm, something I heavily need to look into, are attracted to people with aura just a smidge more than people who are scared, so the government has disallowed the notions of unlocking everyone's aura, stating this, and the fact that nobody truly requires aura in most activities as their justification.
…The government is disallowing people's soul to physically manifest because these 'grimm' would target them.
…Even on a new planet, the chains of oppression are still as foul as ever.
…This is what I'm here for. Is that why fate has chosen me to obtain this… PvP system?
To save all of these oppressed people, unable to even know how their soul feels like?
Reading further, it seems as if there is a clear similarity to meta abilities. Semblances.
Semblances seem to vary widely, however, not as widely as meta abilities… Despite the saying of all semblances seem to be different, I believe that it's a matter of the government not unlocking enough people's aura to figure out the truth.
Were these grimm even a threat enough to justify this travesty upon human rights?
Glancing up to Robyn, who seemed to be upset at my dismissal of her, I decided to ask, "Robyn… In your opinion, are grimm dangerous?"
Robyn had a baffled look, "THAT'S what you're asking me?!" She nearly shouts, the only thing stopping her being the environment.
"Let us trade, then," I offered, knowing that this is likely the most important part of this conversation, "I require information, and you'll tell me this information… In return, I'll answer all of your questions to the best of my ability."
Meeting a politician was, perhaps, a sign of fate. A sign from a possible god…
There is no future where I let this opportunity slide, even if I have to reveal a few details about my past.
Robyn glared, and held out her hand, "My semblance is a lie detector. So, hold my hand, and I'll figure out if you're telling the truth here."
I gave my hand to her, her hand glowed…
Green.
Her glare softens, "Fine, go ahead, ask your questions."
The deal has been struck. I inwardly smirked at my victory, but didn't show it.
"Yes, thank you." I say, "So, my previous question. Do you think grimm are dangerous?"
Robyn raised her eyebrow, "Well, yeah, obviously. If they weren't, we wouldn't be dedicating a lot of resources to fighting them."
I see… "Then… Tell me, do you know the rough population of the planet?"
If grimm seem to be this ever present threat, then the population must be somewhere under a billion, yes?
However, with this level of technology, I do presume the population is at least over 10 million…
"Last I checked… Remnant has about 8 million people on it." Robyn confidently answers, leaning back in her chair and pushing back her hair.
I choked on air. Only 8 million people?! I know of backwater countries with more population than this entire planet!
How dangerous are grimm if they're actively acting as a population control across the entire planet?!
…Or perhaps, how weak the people are? A possible consequence of not letting people have aura, perhaps? Additional physical power did lead to slightly higher survival chances…
Robyn only looked mildly concerned at my choking, "...Are you okay?"
"I am fine," I coughed out, removing the last bits of air from my lung, "...You mentioned being a huntress. Would you mind explaining what a huntress is?"
After Robyn gave her explanation, I was immediately reminded of heroes…
…Hands of the government.
This world and my own seem to share so many similarities, it's not even amusing anymore. This world needs a liberator to save it…
Only I can do that.
Absentmindedly, I asked, "Would you unlock my aura for me?"
Robyn agreed to do so, and reached her arm towards me in preparation for the unlocking…
"You already have an aura."
…What?
Aura unlock detected. Player's body is used to substitute aura, and your system as your semblance. As such, attempting to unlock aura is meaningless.
Ah… Slightly disappointing, however, I suppose player's body's description did sound a tad bit familiar to aura… If squinted at.
"I see," I said disappointedly, "Then, I only have one remaining question. Do you think it would be beneficial to unlock everyone's aura?"
So, Robyn, will you be my ally straight away, or will I have to move on and find someone more willing?
Robyn had a thoughtful look on her face before answering, "Hm, no. Not everyone wants to be a hunter or huntress. Some people can't even swing a sword or shoot a pistol properly. Nobody should have to go through something they don't want."
…What a shame, attempting to get her on my side, "Wouldn't a bit of training solve the issue? The grimm would be much less threatening with so many people against them, yes?"
Robyn shrugs, "True, but some grimm just can't be beat with pure numbers. Even if some of the people with unlocked auras do happen to be prodigies, there's a lot more people who'll panic and run at the sight of grimm, even with combat training and aura."
Cowards, who cares about cowards?
It seems at the end of the day, Robyn will not join my side.
Suddenly, her phone (No… Scroll.) beeped, and she quickly checks it… And leaves with a disgruntled face.
"Sorry, Moroes, it looks like they want me on the field to check out the rumors of new grimm and sudden appearances of villages." Robyn apologized.
I nodded, "Go ahead. I will answer your questions when you arrive back."
She quickly took her leave as I was left in my head.
So many answers, still too many questions.
Robyn leaving was conveniently beneficial, I was prepared to give her all the answers she wanted, but upon knowing she didn't quite stand with me, I was quite less prepared to do so.
However, her reason for leaving… New grimm and villages. Did my opponent create new villages out of nowhere? Ah, but I suppose that would be the fault of one of my own modifiers, then…
Still though… Why limit aura? There is no good argument that would hold up in the field…
…I should find a diary to write in. If I want to follow in Destro's footsteps, I'd like to write it all down for anyone following in my own footsteps.
Obviously, this world needed some sort of Meta Liberation Army of its own…
…Perhaps calling it the Aura Liberation Army will do.
…I should get back to reading.
Robyn
Moroes August…
Is probably one of the most suspicious people she's ever met, and she's met Jaqcues Schnee before, so that's saying something.
His entire demeanor just shouts out 'i'm hiding something' and it's seriously bugging her. She didn't really talk about it because she was being polite, but the moment she's back, she's getting answers.
…Did he even have a scroll?
Quickly texting back to Fiona to get Moroes a scroll, she focuses back on her mission, which for some reason, every hunter is meant to work on.
…Well, nobody can prove Fiona wasn't with them, so almost every hunter, anyways.
I mean, getting a few groups to find out a new grimm variant? Alright, that's normal.
Mobilizing every hunter in Solitas to find out not only new grimm variants, but also randomly appearing villages?
The councilmen have to be going insane.
Meeting up with her two teammates, they set off towards their assigned zone.
After a few hours of traveling, they make it to their destination…
And immediately find out why they had everyone in Solitas work on this.
Because holy shit, she's never seen any of these grimm before, and there's like 200 of them.
…She should've brought Fiona, Moroes be damned.
Moroes
Atlas, Vale, Mistral, Vacuo.
He has heard none of these names before, and apparently, they're the 4 main nations of this world.
Actually, he has heard of Atlas before. Some hero's name, if I remember correctly… Which was based off of some old Latin legend?
An odd connection, because they were in Japan, but considering All Might is essentially a discount american, I suppose it was fine.
…Ugh, All Might…
His fall essentially paved the way for our success, and our first and only mistake was messing with the one person who could crumble the army away…
"Erm, You're Moroes, right?" A womanly voice asked from behind.
I closed my book and turned around…
…A sheep girl?
Using observe, she was Fiona Thyme… A sheep faunus?
I don't believe I've gotten that far in my books yet…
"Yes, that is me." I answered, curious as to why she was here.
"Er, Robyn wanted me to help you adjust around the city and find a place to stay." She answered.
…I see.
"That is fine," I answered, "Allow me to place my books away then… By the way, what is your name?"
"Oh, I'm Fiona Thyme, nice to meet another faunus, even though you're… A lot more different."
Quest complete.

…Hm, I'll have to look into that later…
"Ah, Moroes, do you have a scroll?" Fiona asked once we left the library.
"No, I don't," I answered. It's been crossing my mind a bit, however… I suppose this is the part where we buy one for me, then?
Instead, Fiona hands out a scroll to me, smiling, "Ah! Then you can use this one I just bought for you. Truthfully, Robyn already asked me to buy one for you…"
I accepted the gift and ignored the part where I had no idea how to operate it…
However, if it's similar enough to a phone, and since I'm able to read the english around here, I'll be able to operate it sooner or later.
We ended up chatting about mostly meaningless topics while on the way to the hotel where I'll be staying. Paid for by Robyn herself, apparently.
I was thinking of trying to introduce her to my cause, however, I wanted more knowledge of the world so my argument could be refined before I do so.
"Ah, by the way, do you know where I could buy a diary for myself?" I asked after our conversation on food had run out of steam.
"Huh? Oh, I think if we make a quick detour, we can stop by a bookstore to buy one…" She answered after brief amounts of thinking.
And so, I had a new diary.
Soon enough, I made it to my nondescript room with minimal amounts of trouble. According to Fiona, it was on the less reputable side of town, but one of the only places accepting of faunus.
A mildly concerning societal trend.
However, all things considered, it can be ignored until later, for now…
I believe I have a few more things I'd like to check, such as these three gacha tokens I've nearly forgotten about.
Taking them out and crushing them…
[Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker - Legendary - Once wielded by the lord of wind, this blade is now within your hands. When an enemy is hit, there is a chance that the attack will be accompanied by extra wind or electric damage. Deals 1-3x Str per hit
Did somebody say Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseekr?!]
[Standard System Gacha Token - Divine - A gacha token from the standard system. Crush to use. Warning: Items not balanced]
[Gamerland Year Pass - Epic - A year pass to enter Gamerland. When used, you may enter Gamerland for 1 year freely.
Mickey Mouse Smiles on you!]
…Interesting? Thunderfury, unfortunately, seems useless to me… The extra gacha token is warned to be not balanced, so it might be interesting. And the year pass…
I have no idea. Perhaps I'll find out some other time.
Taking out the extra gacha token, I crushed it to find…
[Domino of Destiny - Divine - A domino that sets up destiny. Use it on one of the great walls of the universe, and you might get a prize.]
…How cryptically useless.
Disappointed, I started to pull up my system and move over to the contracts menu.
Contracts
Need a quest? Come get one!
Only 1 contract can be accepted at a time.
The 1st contract will have an additional cosmetic reward.
…
Additional quests, then.
Browsing through the menu, I see that it is mostly 'evil' things, such as killing people, or destroying things.
So, things I can't do without destroying my reputation.
However, there was something that caught my eye.
Hearts and Minds [Crowned]
Allies are a rare commodity to find as a villain player. So, why not manufacture one?
Objective: Convince a previously good aligned person onto your side.
Reward: 1,250 Exp, Shattered Crown.
It sounds like something I'll do soon, so I'll take it. After all, the best orders are the ones you were going to do anyways.
Contract: Hearts and Minds accepted.
Now that I think of it… Wasn't Hearts and Minds the political party Skeptic was the head of?
So many coincidences…
Well, regardless… I believe the co-op dungeon is my next course of action.
Co-op dungeon portal open. Please enter.
"Hey, my name is Y/N Dabi Clone, pleased to make your acquaintance for the next 10 minutes." Y/N Dabi Clone, who looked almost identical to Dabi in all ways but clothing, introduced to everyone.
"...Dabi?" Moroes, the humanoid bird, hesitantly muttered.
Y/N Dabi Clone sharpened his eyes over to Moroes, "I'm not like other boys."
"...I… See…" Moroes said.
"Ooh? Y/N Dabi Clone? You better win your match, dude!" Catchen, a succubus, shouted out when he was finished reading everyone's modifiers.
"So, Moroes, I was wondering…" Metten, the jester automaton, curiously approached while cleaning up the orc enemies
"Yes?" Moroes replied, "We don't have all day."
"Are you really from My Hero Academia?" Metten asked.
"...What's My Hero Academia?" Moroes confusedly asked back.
Metten had a look of realization before asking, "Er, I mean, are you really from the Meta Liberation Army?"
Moroes nodded, "Yes, would you like to hear our ideals?"
Y/N Dabi Clone shouted out from the back, "Metten! Don't listen to weird creepy birds trying to sell you on fascism!"
Moroes' eye twitched, "I may be weak to fire, but I am perfectly willing to kill you, Dabi."
"That's Y/N Dabi Clone to you, Moroes."
Metten and Catchen couldn't help but snicker.
"Metten," Moroes started, "I noticed, you're a warrior, yes?"
Metten looked at Moroes oddly, "...Yeah, why?"
Moroes pulled out Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, "Do you have anything valuable you'd like to give me for this?"
Metten looked awestruck, and pulled out a ring.
[Conqueror's Ring - Mythic - A dark black ring that oozes fear. When used on a target who is lower than you in levels, the target will freeze up and lose the will to fight.
I'm not asking. I'm demanding it.]
Moroes handed over the weapon, "What a wonderful exchange."
Metten dumbly handed over the ring as he swooned over Thunderfury.
"So, Y/N Dabi Clone…" Catchen started.
"No." Y/N Dabi Clone said instead.
"Aw, come on! I wanted to offer to suck your dick!"
"No. My chastity is not yours to steal, you harlot."
"My life for the Hooorr-AAGGGHHH!"
The boss barely got a word in before being torched by Y/N Dabi Clone's ridiculously powerful flames.
As the flames went down, Y/N Dabi Clone simply said, "I'm built different."
Soon enough, the exit portal opened, and after a few goodbyes and more bickering between Y/N Dabi Clone and Moroes, they all went their separate ways.

Hm…
Well, wonderful.
For the first day, this has been all fine…
I do not feel physically tired, however, I do wish for some bit of sleep currently…
I think I'll write in my new diary before going to bed.
My first day in this city, and I've already found a politician by the name of Robyn Hill. If I can successfully convert her to my ideals, I believe I will have a strong basis for converting the rest of this city to the meta liberation cause.
Although, it might have to be renamed to the aura liberation cause, as unlike with meta abilities, aura is the set in stone name of aura, unlike with meta abilities before quirks.
I will have to coach myself to not make that mistake while talking to people.
…Hm, how much should I write in here? I suppose if I live a long life, I can always just edit the important parts out. It's not like anyone will get the original as long as its in my inventory. Or at least, I presume so.
I should really check the help menu more extensively tomorrow.
AN:
Sorry to the Robyn and Fiona fans, probably very upset at me writing them ooc. However, they had cool positions and who else was I going to use?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Anyways, I finally remembered 'oh yeah, gacha' and randomly thought of those.
RIP to Thunderfury, who got traded away for a ring.
Also, since a reviewer brought it up, probably no romance here, since I'm an avid reader, not writer, of romance fics.
Hm, I swear I was going to write more down here, but I've been awake all night, so it's escaping me right now…
Writing late at night and then publishing it without thinking has brought me nothing but grief, yet I do it anyway. Why has common sense forsaken me.
[Hi Y/N Dabi Clone. I haven't seen you since last year.]
[If I just write more, then people won't notice my glaring mistakes! This is big brain time]
