Fates pov
Bodies of undead marched across the seabed until they had reached the land of the Olympic Coven. Their feet could be heard from miles out. Barreling towards us. The Cullens held strong in formation until it had been time to break. I watched them from high up above. Jacob and Bella were talking off in the distance. I could feel amber eyes piercing the back of my head.
I could hear their petty romantic squabbling. Bella pleaded with Jacob to come back alive. To not leave her side. Of course, this sprung the conversation of last night on his lips. Not that he asked me to spell her, but to convince her to stay human. It ended with her begging for him to kiss her. Edward moved to my side.
"You alright?"
"I heard what he asked of you."
"I only promised to talk. You did that girl a disservice continuing to consort with her."
"I love her."
"Fuck love."
Bella had just been making her way back to Edward when I jumped off the side of the mountain. For more than a minute I allowed myself to free-fall before landing smack into the ground before I blinked out of sight. I ripped a portal through time and space, I landed safely in the middle of a swarm of newborns. Before any of them could lay a finger on me fire black as night consumed them.
To my right, the wolves were descending upon a group of their own. Large snarling mouths tore into them, body parts flying in all directions. Jasper could be seen flying through the air ripping the head off a stray newborn chasing after Alice. They had really held their own. Fortunately for them, all my soldiers had been put to rest. Everyone I've seen has been some child Victoria plucked off the street. Untrained. Rosalie had gotten trapped surrounded by them, one had gotten his hands around her.
Her screams had been startling, I was the closest one to her. Moving at the speed of light had been a feat to learn. It's about making your atoms move at the same rate and trajectory light moves. Fracturing your being. I materialized behind the newborns. I placed my glowing hands out and watched as each one slowly turned to stone. Rosalie got a kick out of watching them turn to dust once she hit them.
"You good? Any broken limbs?"
"Thank you. I wasn't sure it had been the right idea to vote for your stay. I'd have died without your help." She ran off before I could respond.
Emmet along with the wolves tag teamed together killing multiple newborns at once. With his large size, he ran at them with such force many broke completely on impact shattering into crystal. I'm still amazed at how different I was from these creatures wreaking havoc around me. I bleed. My skin isn't impenetrable. I feast on meat and blood. I can unfortunately still give birth, thankfully they are sterile otherwise I'm sure Jasper and I would have had a love child long ago.
Carlisle and Esme were quite the team. Out of anyone they had managed to rack up the highest body count. Esme would use her speed to lead them towards the wolves. While Carlisle just as he had defeated me unmercifully demolished any newborn insight.
My pupils enlarged until my eyes were completely black once I laid sight on those curls. Victoria. She had been a friend. I not only allowed her to roam free in my home and territory. I opened my heart to her. Accepted her into my life and treated her like family. She had been a masterful liar. Convincing me of our shared kinship. Now she must pay!
She took off in the opposite direction. I raced through the bodies between us. She hadn't been on the battlefield but the outskirts watching her ranks dwindle. Having to fight and Claw my way to her. The rage consumed me until nothing but white-hot flames scorched the ground around me. The Cullens and shifters had to dodge out of my way as I cleared a path.
The smell of burnt flesh and hair permeated as I ran through the ashes. I could now see her, she was adept at remaining just out of reach. She always had been. That's how she gained the respect of her lover. James had been a nasty beast, a tracker. His flavor was young women. If it hadn't been for the Cullens, Bella would have been added to his list of victims. Victoria, Alice, and Bella. All different, but we're here today because of his nasty habit, these three women had been the only survivors.
I chased her up the side of the mountain. She landed in a tree not too far from where Riley, her boy toy, held his gaze on Bella's throat. I struggled to get up completely, a newborn held tightly to my legs trying to plummet me to the ground. I tried to kick him off me to no avail.
"Victorias just using you to distract me. She knows I'll kill you."
"I told you about their mind tricks, don't listen to him."
"I can read her mind. I know what she really thinks of you."
"He's lying."
I listened to them talk like villains in some stupid movie. Just fight already. Jasper clambered up beside me, he yanked the newborn off my legs and fell to the ground. The now shattered newborn broke his fall. He shouted up at me.
"You're welcome."
I was able to pull myself over the edge in time to watch said fight begin. Riley lunged for Bella but was unsuccessful. A hidden shifter leaped through the air and took him with it. Riley and the shifter were in an all-out battle for dominance. Victoria took off in the opposite direction leaving her toy inside a drooling mouth.
"Where do you think you're going." I was levitating mid-air. Edward and Bella had their eyes locked on us.
"You must understand. Fate, I never meant to hurt you."
"I do understand but don't treat me like a fool. You wormed your way into my life, you became my friend. I was an obstacle, you needed an army fast but couldn't risk exposure. So you took mine!" Once landing in front of her I popped my neck and stretched my shoulders. Riley clawed his way over to Edward, they were deep in battle spurring my own.
Victoria flung herself towards me. We slid in the snow, her hands swung towards my face. She hit hard, blood flew from my mouth and splattered into the snow. I grabbed her by those flame locks and got a few licks of my own. The satisfaction of hearing a crunch, her rib cage had been broken. She escaped my hold by throwing me off her and racing towards Bella. Edward had been locked in his fight with Riley, he couldn't reach her in time.
Victoria had been within an inch of her before getting caught in her own battle with the wolf. Her arm was now missing from her body. I flitted towards Edward, Riley held him by the neck, thin cracks spread across his face. I wasn't needed, he managed to throw Riley off him. I caught the body mid-air much like how I did Emmet. Instead of plummeting him deep into the earth, I slammed Riley across the boulder. He shattered on impact, shards had embedded themselves in my face. Blood leaked from the wounds. Victoria managed to escape the wolf by kicking it in the head, it now lay knocked out in the snow. Edward held her in a headlock and was just about to remove her head from her shoulders. Before doing so he decided to bring her neck to his mouth and try to bite.
"No, she's mine!" Edward was tossed away from her like a rag doll with a wave of my hand. I held her in my gaze, my eyes went black, the blood seeping into my sight blinding me. She was stuck in her spot, she tried to run from me as I trudged through the snow.
"I'm sorry."
Those were her last words. I held her head in my hands and forced her eyes to look into my own. The red irises faded into a marvelous green, she began to rapidly age before my eyes. Just before the life left them I reached into her chest to pull out her faintly beating heart and feasted. Bella stood like a deer in headlights, shock, and fear plastered across her face as she watched the once immortal being turn into a desiccated mummy. As her blood dripped down my chin and her meat slid down my throat I let out a final war cry. The wolves echoed my sentiment by howling along with me.
The sound traveled down the mountain killing the remaining newborns. Their bodies shattered like glass windows. Edward shrieked in agony, venom leaked from his ears as he tried to crawl his way to Bella's side to protect her from me. The rest of the Cullens had been unprepared for my shriek but they had been far enough from my range to be safe. I turned towards them both once finished. I drug the corpse of Victoria behind me as I marched towards Bella and Edward. She had run to his aid.
"What's wrong with him."
I touched the back of his head and healed his wounds. His stupidity had cost him his eardrums. If he had just laid still instead of trying to crawl towards her it wouldn't have happened.
"He's fine."
I wiped my face of blood and continued to drag Victoria down the mountain. Once I reached the end of it I was greeted by the scent of fire. The Cullens had begun to round up the corpses of the dead. They must all be burnt. I threw her body onto a mound of burning body parts and watched as the flames ate her. Edward, Bella, and the shifter had been behind me. They regrouped with the rest of the family. I could feel all their eyes on me as I watched my friend turn to ash before my eyes. A single tear slid down my face before whispering goodbye to her.
The sound of Carlisle's voice rang through the air breaking my concentration. I turned towards them. They were almost here. In ten minutes I'd be face to face with an old enemy. The Volturi. I've had a few interactions with them. Some in my early days but some much later too. The wolves left, they would be killed on sight. Caius led multiple attacks on the children of the moon. Werewolves!
They are all but extinct today. Well, that's what we're told, however, I believe different. The shifters weren't true werewolves, they weren't infected by lycanthropy. We waited among the fire for them to emerge from the trees. Each one glided gracefully until they stood about five feet within grasp. Jane, Alec, Felix, and Demetri had been sent to clean up.The crimson eyes of Jane landed on me and a smirk etched its way onto her dead face.
"Fate, how lovely it is to see you again. We hadn't expected your presence. I must say you're still impressive as ever."
"She did have help this time dear sister. The witch may be losing her touch."
I ignored them in favor of laying my eyes on a stray newborn. That was odd, they all should have been dead. I hadn't been the only one to notice. She was young, no older than sixteen. She was standing behind Carlisle and Esme.
"She even missed one. I think you're right brother." Jasper moved closer to the girl backing up his father and mother figure. The Cullens began to prepare for another battle if need be.
"We offered her asylum in exchange for her surrender." Carlisle's voice boomed authoritatively. Stupid fool.
"Why did you come?"
The girl didn't answer quickly enough. Her shrieks echoed up into the air as Jane used her gift. I had felt it only once before. Jane and Alec had been witches too. Unlucky ones at that, they both had felt the flames. Now Jane uses them to torture others. While Alec can render anyone senseless. Taking each one of the senses away until the inflicted go mad from sensory deprivation. Much like death!
"Who created you?"
"Jane is this necessary? I'm quite hungry, I'd like to speed things up if possible." I gave her what she wanted. My undivided attention. Her eyes moved to me and the screaming girl stopped to choke out the answer. She didn't know. Riley had kept the knowledge of their maker a secret.
"Her name was Victoria. Perhaps you knew her?" Edward challenged them. Of course, they knew. It's just that they had expected the Cullens to be in those piles of flames.
"Edward. If the Volturi had knowledge of Victoria, they would have stopped her. Isn't that right Jane. " Carlisle protected his son.
"Of course." Jane kept her eyes on me as the lie slipped from her ashen lips." Felix." The monstrosity known as Felix moved on command. He had no extra ability other than his size and strength. He was completely mute, as punishment his tongue had been removed. Esme called out in fear for the newborn child.
"She didn't know what she was doing. We'll take responsibility for her."
"Give her a chance. "Carlisle tried to appease to Jane. But I knew she would never allow the girl to live. It was punishment for failing.
"The Volturi, don't give second chances. Keep that in mind. Caius will be interested to know that she's still human."
"The date is set," Bella called out. Her face was partially hidden trying to appear meek.
"Take care of that Felix. I agree with Fate, I'm simply famished." Her eyes lingered on Bella for just a moment. He marched forward daring any of the Cullens to stand in his way. The young newborn tried to crawl away from him, begging to be let go. I moved in front of her standing in his way.
"Turn around and go back home to daddy, Jane."
"Felix." He placed his hands on me and attempted to move me but couldn't. The girl's screams echoed into the air once more.
"If you don't move, my sister will have no choice but to kill the girl herself. "
"Two can play that game. I have nothing to lose. Go home!" My stand had been for nothing the girl had been killed regardless. Alice was bent over the girl, she removed her head and tossed it to Alec.
"There. Now leave." She called out before walking away from the scene.
All eyes watched as her figure retreat from view. A laugh broke from within Jane, soon all four of them snickered. Jasper followed after his wife in shame. The four retreated before any more could be said. I stared down at the broken body of the young girl and shed yet another tear. The poor girl had lost her first life and now the second, her name had been Bre Tanner.
Once they were gone we all packed up. We couldn't leave any evidence of what happened here. Despite the fact, flames had eaten everything in its path. Before we left I made sure to restore the balance. Taking the death and giving life to the earth. Fixing all the damage and destruction. I had been the last to arrive back at the Cullens residence. All of my things had been packed and ready for me. Before leaving I had been stopped by Bella. She held my journals in hand.
"I'm sorry, I took these. It seemed like everyone had known so much more about you and I didn't want to be left out. I'd like to put something to a vote. "
Alice had been upstairs leaning over the banister. She knew. I could tell she knew what Bella was going to ask. Her eyes were pasted on me. Her face was tightened as if she was trying to hide her emotions. Jasper had been nowhere in sight.
The rest of the family had been downstairs. Emmet held Rosalie in his arms. They were sitting on the couch relaxing after such a long week. Edward was in the kitchen preparing a meal for Bella. Carlisle and Esme stood nearby waiting for Bella to finish speaking.
"I know that many of you didn't like my being around so much. But over time I grew to be family. What happened today had been the result of my being human. I have placed every one of you in danger. I wanted to publicly thank you Fate. Despite not knowing me and having your motives. You protected me and my family. I petition to let fate stay."
I had truly underestimated Isabella. Her eyes bore into my own just as I had Victorias. Daring me to go against her.
"Fate has plans of her own Bella." Edwards's voice called out. The rest of the house had been so silent a pen could drop and be heard from upstairs.
"She will," Alice responds to him. She slowly walks downstairs to explain. She divulged the information she confided in me. The vision of Jasper and me.
"The future can change Alice." I retort.
"This one won't, Fate." She raised her hand into the air. Her eyes never moved from my own." why not, not like me saying no will make a difference."
"She saved my life. Yes." Rosalie sorrowfully gazed at her sister.
"I like her well enough. Welcome to the family." Emmet called after her.
" I love all my children. Today you managed to save not one of them but two. Your display today had been one of defiance. Despite that, you were willing to stand behind our choices, defend us against the Volturi. Yes." Esme voted.
"Yes." This voice had been unexpected. It was unmistakable. Jasper was at the top of the stairs a bag slung across his shoulders. All eyes moved to him except for Edwards. He had broken a plate in response. He stormed out of the house. The last one to vote had been Carlisle. He looked at me unlike he ever had before. No longer was I a being to dissect and peer into. But a respected Ally!
"Yes."
