Jaspers pov past tense.
The sultry tones of Charlotte's voice drifted through the receiver. She sounded hurt but was hiding it well.
"Your wife was here. What have you done? I told you. Begged even. You need to let Fate go."
"Alice? Where did she go?"
"All I know is she's pissed. I figured I should warn you. She's planning something Jasper. Watch out ok? "
"Why didn't you tell me Peter ran off to be Fate's lackey?" The phone clicked over.
The events leading up to Alice leaving have been on a constant loop. She killing the newborn. She didn't want to, she saw the aftermath of not doing so. Fate was more than willing to start another blood bath. So she took matters into her hands.
I could have misread the situation. Alice might not be the one in danger. Alice was hurting, there's no telling what's running through her mind. The future's changing. Changing for the worst it seems.
The weather matched my mood. Thick raindrops pounded the pavement. I was home now. Carlisle had news. I was tucked upstairs in his office as he explained his discovery.
Carlisle was mesmerized by the cells he found inside Fates bile. He hooked his equipment up to the screen. He showed me a real-time reaction. He placed a drop of blood onto the slide. The cells consumed the blood with ease.
"That's normal. Well normal as in her cells react to proper stimulation. Food. However, watch this." Carlisle placed what seemed to be a drop of his venom.
The cells cannibalized themselves. It was a continuous loop of regeneration and feeding. The words her... 'husband' spoke reverberated.
My venom. It was causing a destabilizing reaction inside her. It was deteriorating her cells. Eating through the atoms that make up what she is. This is what Benjamin meant by she's an atom bomb. I can only imagine the effects on her magic. It's coded in her DNA if I'm to believe Elijah. That would account for the disruption Peter spoke of.
My fist clenched by my side. Carlisle noticed his mood being affected by me. I apologized as I was about to leave he stopped me.
"Rosalie. She spoke about what you confided in her. I'm sorry Jasper. "
"She's married, separated but still. She's married! He's like her. They all are I believe. Her father. Him... Elijah. She's a Hybrid. A mixture of what we are and what they are.
Her mother. Magnolia. She came from a tribe of witches. Located somewhere in the Congo. They held power in their blood. Held the ability to heal or treat illness. Whatever it is they cured lycanthropy. It cured Werewolves Carlisle. They hunted them down.
They were aided by her husband's tribe. They were allies. His father was the Viking king and his mother was a witch. A powerful one at that. She cursed the children. Sacrificed them to a god. They rose as flesh-eating undead witches. Their power was heightened by the connection to the deity they fed every time they feasted. They age. Give birth. She had a child. A child." My knees buckled. The sheer weight of that sentence is enough to snap the façade. The hand that held the door flexed a bit too hard as I fell it came with me.
Carlisle pulled me into an embrace. I didn't fight it. I accepted the compassion and love radiating from my father. The waves of emotion affected the house occupants differently.
Rosalie when experiencing grief becomes an angry tyrant. While Esme becomes maudlin. Edward retreats inside himself, he becomes creative. The keys allow the emotions to purge as he creates a score. Emmet is more well-rounded emotionally, he's most similar to Carlisle. Alice was moody. She would go hyper and irritable, or become overwhelmingly depressive.
Fate became promiscuous. Her taste for sex rivals the one for flesh. I used to get off on it. Get a kick out of watching her in pleasure. It never mattered who fucked who. Sometimes I'd join while others I'd just view. Her favorite prey was always Latin blooded women. I always wondered back in the day. I never had proof but I'm pretty sure she and Maria tangoed a bit.
I eventually got up from the floor after calming myself down. The heaviness lifted from the atmosphere. Edward was still playing a woeful note on the piano. Its sobbing drifted up the stairs.
I could sense where each one of my family members was in the house based on how strong I affected them during my mood swing. Esme was upstairs sitting out on the roof. Probably, a cup of whatever liquor Benjamin left in her hand.
Emmet was right by her side making sure she had company. She can be self-destructive if she begins to remember her first husband and the death of her child.
While Rosalie was sitting in Alice's most favorite room. Her closet. I walked in to see the bedroom portion a mess. Rose took her aggression out on the bed I shared with Alice. I found my sister with the bottle instead. That's a good thing. I'd be worried about Esme if she had it.
"What do you want?" Her words slurred.
"You know that's just going to make you sick. "
"It feels pretty good right now."
Her eyes were pitch black. The alcohol poisons the last meal we ate. Because we aren't alive we don't supply our own. The body purges it and then we must feed again. However, you have until all the blood is poisoned to feel drunk.
"I'm sorry Rose. I never meant to hurt her, I swear."
"He told me you still love her. Edward. You know he genuinely believes that she... Fate will fuck around with Bella. The funny thing is I like her! She saved my life you know?
Emmet couldn't reach me. He couldn't get there in time. They had me, Jasper. She just came out of nowhere, just turned them to stone. It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen.
Alice... Alice is gone. I called her. She's, she's not well. She said things to me, she's never spoken to me like that before. Something is wrong! "
I held my sister as she expressed her emotions. Our eyes watered when we were sad. They would glaze over with venom. Yet not a single drop fell.
Somehow she was able to ensnare my family. Even Alice voted for her. She bowed out believing in the future she saw. One where she was replaced. I fear Alice may die if she continues this trek of self-destruction. Fate will kill her if she needs to. I'm beginning to understand why Fate didn't take to Alice. Maybe they were closer in personality than I ever noticed before.
I took the bottle from her and convinced her to go hunting. I helped her downstairs, I was happy to see Esme alright. She was now watching a comfort movie curled up on the couch with Carlisle. Emmet took his mate from my care.
Edward was waiting for me. He has since recovered from his bout of alcohol poisoning. I followed him out into the night. We went on a hunt of our own. I immediately recognized the way we were going.
He found the location of her home. Looks like multiple people are investigating the future. All coming to the same conclusion. Fate is involved. The words Benjamin said now make sense. She would change the course of history.
Change the world as we know it. I presume it has to do with the Volturi. That's the only thing I could think of. Especially with the tie of Bella. It makes the most sense. The Volturi is ramping up to something, the players are Bella, Alice, and Fate. Three women they have desired since encountering them. The lot the home was in was still empty. But Edward looked suspicious.
"I can feel her here. She's done something to the home. I can't quite make sense of it. "
"I know. She's gone back in time. I went to see the witch, Benjamin. He told me some interesting things about Isabella. She is planning something. From what I've heard she, Alice, and Fate are affecting the future in ways that will change things."
"I know. I've been reading your mind since you arrived. That witch did something to me. My gifts have been amplified since he toyed with my head."
"He said he wants you to keep searching. You're important somehow. We all are I guess. We revolve around them like chess pieces. All of us have since she waltzed back into my life. "
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know. What about you?"
"I'll kill her if I have to. I won't let her do what she's done to you, happen to me. I won't let her have Bella."
Rosalie mentioned Edward and his mental state around Bella and Fate. It made sense all of a sudden. The signs were there the entire time. Edward and Alice began acting manic around the same time.
From the beginning, Edward was for Fate. He fought me every step of the way. Believing that he could control the situation. That was until he perceived her as a threat. A threat to his romantic partner. Then he became my biggest ally.
The curse Fate carries doesn't care who it takes. It doesn't matter as long as it's fed. The ingredient of the spell was blood. Louis spoke of Diablerie. That for her to resurrect the way she does would require blood magic.
The heart of your lover. Elijah spoke of how power and control will snuff out love. This must mean any love. Happiness. Peace. All things good will be consumed by the darkness.
The third was the sacrifice of children. Rebirth as something new. The two tribes then consumed the flesh of the dead. The newly created children rose and feasted on the true sacrifice. The tribe.
Elijah's mother, Åse, Fates mother in law succeeded. The rest of the tribe, their perfect weapon against any enemies that harm them, went on to populate the earth. Creating two long lines of powerful families. One with wealth but the magic inside them lying dormant.
While the other, a long line of extremely dangerous persecuted people. Witches that kept their practices alive in secret. Witches that held blood so strong it cured beasts. Rebirth so to speak. These lines intertwined. Creating the most powerful being seen in quite a while. Her life hanging in the balance. Her choices and the ones of others shape the end.
Blood. Heart of lover. Sacrifice. The curse was on the second step. Despite Louis's love for Claudia, his heart belonged to another. As long as they were away from Magnolia everything was fine. Once they moved back to his home things changed.
Their romance began to wane and he became manic for his lover. Desiring her. Hating her. Not being able to go on without her. His thirst for control turned him rotten inside. In the end, she escaped his clutches. The clutches of the curse. So Louis rots. The curse having not finished feeding has left him paralyzed. Waiting.
It wasn't hard to see the resemblance of this with Elijah. Or myself. Louis said Claudia went mad. It certainly seems like Edward and Alice are slipping. That leaves Bella and me. It wasn't hard to notice Bella's intrigue. Her wonderment of Fate. Her questions. Even her apprehension of marrying Edward. Benjamin hinted that Fate and Bella might sleep together. What if my brother was right. That Fate might 'take' Bella from him. That the curse would consume her.
"Jasper? Have you been listening to me?"
"No, I'm sorry, I was lost in thought."
"I didn't hear them."
"You probably won't. She more than likely has this place warded up the ass. She used to be paranoid about things like that. She wasn't well-liked even before I bit her."
"What were you thinking about?"
"I'm not sure I want you to know. You could be right. Although we both could be wrong. Fate does have a thing for women.
Always has. She's not interested in Bella. At least not from what I can tell."
"How do you know."
"Just trust me. I'm sure you heard my conversation with Carlisle. There's a bit more behind it. Something I never told Rosalie.
When I met her father, he told me about his wife. Not just Fates mother. Her name was Claudia. They were happily married until she lost some children. He turned to Magnolia for comfort. Claudia began to go crazy. She ended up dying rather young.
Louis implied that multiple half-siblings were running around. A long line of crazy people and cheating. You might have a problem Edward. Rose mentioned you and your feelings. Alice had mentioned hers.
Louis made the mistake with Magnolia and he began to lose his mind. Fate lost hers a long time ago. I don't think it just affects them though. I think it affects us too. Their victims."
"What does that have to do with Bella? You said Fate wasn't interested. "
It took a moment to sink in. My brother soon followed my line of thinking. That Bella wasn't just seeking to use Fate for her gain. But seek her out romantically. At the very least sexually. Eventually, he spoke.
"The night before the army arrived. I overheard Jacob speaking to her. He heard Fate tell you she could take your memories away.
He wanted her to do the same for Bella. To take her memories of all of us. Eliminating her knowledge of monsters.
Fate said she wouldn't, not without Bella's will. She agreed to speak to her about it. That's how I found out about Bella plotting against the Volturi. She found one of Alice's sketches of the future. She saw a future where we went to war with the Volturi.
Bella believes that Fate is the answer to saving us. She read in those journals that Aro failed multiple attempts to take her. Caius too.
I didn't think anything of it at the time. But he said that Bella thought the world of Fate. I knew that Bella was obsessed. I convinced myself Fate was seducing her. The way she ensnared Bella with her gifts. Reading her mind. Doing things to her with magic! Are you implying that my fiancé is in love with your ex-wife? "
"You should go speak to her. It's just speculation, I said I could be wrong. "
"Unfortunately. You seem to be scary accurate when it comes to that woman. You knew! You tried to warn me! I allowed myself to be illusioned by destroying Victoria, that I couldn't see the real enemy. "
"Edward. If you harm a single hair, on Destina's head. I will destroy Isabella. I won't hesitate to kill her entire family if I must."
My brother reacted violently. Usually, his ability to read my mind and my advanced combat skills dictate neither of us winning. The last time we did, it almost ended in my death. I almost did just what I threatened. Killed her. It was him that caught me mid escape. It had been Bella's birthday.
She cut her finger on a piece of paper. The pristine carpet marred by a single drop of blood. It took most of the family to drag me out before I sank my teeth into her aorta.
It was Peter that drug me away from him. I was seething in rage. The curse affected me once again. Edward had lost his arm in our battle. He sat ten feet away from me. Peter refused to give it back to him until he calmed down.
"Now does someone want to explain to me what's going on here? "
"He threatened to harm her."
"Fate? That figures. Always making enemies where ever she goes. Sorry to meet you like this. I'm Peter, an old friend of jaspers. Are you ok? Can I give this back to you now?"
"I'm good." Edward was breathing heavily.
It's interesting what the brain does. He has no real reason to breathe at all. But we do. We still mimic our human lives in everything we do. Right down to torturing ourselves with yearning.
"What did she do this time?"
"Your friend believes my mate is in love with Fate. "
"He's in love with her too. Which is more evidence of my theory. I think it's the curse. It's seeking out a victim. A lover. "
"For Pete's sake, what does that woman do? " Edward burst out after processing what I said.
"My emotions for her aren't up for discussion."
Peter's warning rang between us. Ordering us to change the subject. I noticed he held another box. Not only the chest from before but an organ cold chest. She would be here soon.
"Let's go," I called out to Edward.
My brother left first. I wasn't sure if he was getting a head start or if he was headed somewhere else.
"Tell her I said Hello. "
I called out to my old friend before following after Edward. I wasn't ready to see her yet. My emotions were still too raw. Besides, I needed to see her father one last time. I needed more evidence. More proof. The more I had the better my case. I must try to save her at all costs. Especially if her future is entwined with Alice's
