Hawk Moth has been defeated, and the Miraculous' have been returned to their rightful owners. However, one hero did not transform in the last chapter. What was that all about?
Chapter 15: Goodbyes are Never Easy
As soon as he transformed, Cat Noir ran over to the spot where Gabriel Agreste lay. Ladybug followed her partner cautiously.
Cat Noir kneeled in front of Gabriel. Placing a hand to his father's chest, Cat Noir let out a breath. "He's breathing," Cat Noir said, glancing up at Ladybug standing above him. "He's not dead. He's just unconscious."
Kneeling beside her partner, Ladybug placed her hand on Cat Noir's shoulder. "We'll get him the help he needs," she told him. Cat Noir looked up and Ladybug knew that he understood. Gabriel Agreste would need more help than just for his concussion.
Cat Noir silently swallowed. "We should probably tie him up somehow. And maybe gag him, just in case he starts lying about what happened."
"These should help," Queen Bee's voice came from behind. Ladybug and Cat Noir turned to see Queen Bee holding out the replica of Ladybug's yoyo with one hand and the replica of Cat Noir's staff in the other.
"I figured if the replica yoyo can be used for travel in the same way as the real thing, then the string would be just as unbreakable," Queen Bee explained. "And you could stick the staff in his mouth as a gag."
"That's a good idea, Queen Bee," Cat Noir smiled. "Thank you."
Queen Bee handed Ladybug the replica yoyo. Ladybug then started to wrap the yoyo's string around Gabriel's torso, pinning his arms to his sides.
As Ladybug tied the ends of the yoyo together, Queen Bee kneeled down next to her. "I'm sorry," Queen Bee suddenly blurted out. Ladybug looked at the bee-themed hero blankly. "Maybe if I hadn't tried taunting Hawk Moth before paralyzing him, then maybe everything would have gone according to plan," Queen Bee explained.
Ladybug shook her head as she gently opened Gabriel's mouth as wide as possible and wedged the staff in between his teeth. "You don't have to be sorry. I had no idea that Hawk Moth would use my Miraculous' powers against us. Something we didn't expect threw us off, but we adapted. That's what I've done in every battle I've been in. You did just fine, Queen Bee."
At those words, Queen Bee looked straight into Ladybug's eyes and smiled. It wasn't the mean smirk that Chloé usually had reserved for Marinette. Nor was it the overexcited fangirl grin she normally gave Ladybug. It was a nice smile, the kind that good friends gave each other. "Thank you, Ladybug."
Ladybug found herself matching Queen Bee's smile. "You're welcome."
Cat Noir grinned at the two former rivals.
Just then, Rena Rouge came up to the trio. "Guys? We've got a problem."
…
Master Fu was dying.
As Ladybug, Cat Noir, Queen Bee and Rena Rogue ran over to where he lay, Argus was holding her father's hand and weeping, while Wayzz floated nearby.
"Papa," Argus sobbed.
"Don't cry, my daughter," Master Fu said softly. "We both knew that this… is how it would end. Now… there are things I need to say."
As the young heroes gathered around the Great Guardian, Master Fu's eyes locked into Rena Rouge's. "Alya, always remember… the truth can't always come to light."
Master Fu's gaze moved over toward Queen Bee. "Chloé, you do have… the heart of a hero. Learn to show it… and everyone will love you."
Master Fu then looked toward Cat Noir. "Adrien, you must … practice balance… with your two lives.
Finally, Master Fu's eyes rested on Ladybug. "Marinette… you are… the greatest… Ladybug… ever."
With each word to the team he had brought together, Master Fu had a harder time breathing.
"Papa!" Argus cried. "Don't go!"
Master Fu ever so slightly shook his head. "It… is time… Tara… my dear. My mother… is waiting… on the… other… side."
Argus' eyes widened. "No, not yet," she whispered.
"Mother," Master Fu said.
He didn't say another word.
…
Argus let go of her father's hand. She nodded at Wayzz, who nodded back. Then Argus gently removed the Turtle Miraculous from her Master Fu's wrist. As Wayzz vanished into the Miraculous, Argus pressed the top of the pivot pin on her fan. The pin opened up like Ladybug's yoyo does when capturing an akuma, and Argus placed the Turtle Miraculous inside her fan. She then picked up the Moth Miraculous from where it lay on the floor, Nooroo apparently inside it. Argus then placed the Moth Miraculous in her fan as well.
Argus let out a shaky sigh and looked at her team of younger heroes. "The Turtle and Moth Miraculous' will be safe inside my fan until we can return to my father's apartment. Until then, we better get to work fixing the damage caused by Hawk Moth."
"Mother, will you be okay?" Cat Noir asked.
Argus nodded. "There will be more time to grieve later. For now, Rena Rouge and I will take Gabriel into the elevator. Cat Noir and Queen Bee will follow with my father, and Ladybug can take the Lucky Charm that Hawk Moth created. It should still work to fix everything. Then we can use the remote to open the front door." Argus walked over to where Gabriel Agreste was laying, still unconscious, then looked back at her son. "Oh, and Cat Noir? Please call me Argus when we are transformed," she said, smiling softly.
"Sure thing, Argus," Cat Noir said, mirroring his mother's smile.
As Rena Rouge and Argus carried Gabriel Agreste to the elevator and Cat Noir and Queen Bee lifted Master Fu, Ladybug lifted the trampoline Hawk Moth had created as a Lucky Charm. Once she touched it, the purple and black pattern transformed into red with black polka-dots, just like all of Ladybug's Lucky Charms. As it should be.
…
Ladybug walked down the stairs to the lobby of the Agreste's mansion, Lucky Charm in hand. As she joined her fellow heroes at the front door, she opened her yoyo and took out the remote. Ladybug pressed the button to deactivate all security measures, opened the door and stepped outside.
