Hawk Moth has finally been exposed and put away! But the story's not over yet. What happens now?
Chapter 17: Aftermath Activities
"All clear!" Adrien called out. Marinette, Alya, Chloé and Tara followed Adrien from the backyard of the Agreste family mansion to the side path.
After escaping from the reporters, Team Miraculous had hidden in the mansion's backyard, released their transformations and recharged their kwamis. Tara had brought along the kwamis favorite foods- Tikki ate macarons and Plagg had his signature camembert, while Trixx munched on grapes, Buzii sucked some honey out of a little squeeze bottle and Dusuu nibbled on blueberries.
Then they waited for the media to leave the property- the reporters had stayed with their camerapeople for a while to tape the news- before going to retrieve Master Fu's body.
The Great Guardian lay on a bench, his eyes closed and his arms folded across this chest, surrounded by a garden of colorful flowers. As the members of Team Miraculous approached the bench, Chloé asked "What are we going to do with his body?"
"Papa would have wanted to be buried in Tibet, next to his mother," Tara said. "I know someone in Paris who can help us get his body there. Let's transform and carry Papa there- I can lead the way."
"Hang on!" Adrien said suddenly. He ran around the corner to the front of the mansion. Adrien returned almost instantly, carrying the replica of his staff.
"It was hidden in the shadows, next to the staircase for the front door," Adrien explained. "I figured we shouldn't forget the replicas."
"Good thinking," Marinette agreed, holding up her hand. "I've got the replica yoyo right here."
As the heroes transformed, Argus looked back at the Agreste family mansion. "Is that everything? Or is there anything else from home that we should take with us?" Cat Noir asked.
Argus shook her head. "This was never a home," she said softly. "It was a gilded cage." Argus walked over to where Master Fu laid and carefully draped the body over her shoulder. Holding onto her father's body with one hand, Argus used the other to snap open her fan and leap onto the mansion's rooftop.
As the rest of Team Miraculous followed Argus across the rooftops of Paris, a single white butterfly fluttered into the garden and rested on the bench.
…
Argus landed on a balcony at the top floor of a building, with the other heroes following close behind. She gently placed Master Fu's body on a white chair before turning to her teammates. "We should release our transformations. Our kwamis can recharge inside," Argus said.
As the heroes reverted back to their civilian identities, Chloé looked around the balcony. "Wait a minute! This is the balcony to my room."
"Tara," Marinette said. "Who is it we're here to see?"
Just then, the sliding door to the balcony opened. The person who opened the door rushed outside and quickly closed it. He turned to look at the heroes, but he clearly only had eyes for one of them.
"André!" Tara squealed. She leaped toward the mayor of Paris, who caught her in midair and spun her around.
"Oh, Tara. Tara," André Bourgeois said softly into her hair. "It was you, wasn't it?" He looked up at the younger heroes with a huge smile. "All of you."
After a beat of disbelief, Alya stepped forward. "Mayor Bourgeois, just how much do you know?"
"Oh, we made an agreement early on in our relationship to always be honest with each other," Tara explained. "If one of us asked us something, the other would answer honestly."
"I had no idea about the Miraculous' until Ladybug and Cat Noir appeared," Mayor Bourgeois added. "But when I asked Tara where she disappeared to at night, she told me that she was a superheroine. I didn't ask for any more details back then, but I've never told another soul her secret."
"And now, I'm finally free to be with the man I truly love," Tara smiled at André. Mayor Bourgeois smiled back before turning toward Adrien.
"Adrien, I cannot imagine how you are feeling now," Mayor Bourgeois said seriously. "I want you and your mother to move in with me, but I know you've been through a lot. I'd understand if you need more time before letting another father figure into your life." Before Mayor Bourgeois could say more, Adrien ran over and hugged him and Tara.
"Come on, Chloé," Adrien looked back at his twin. "Get in here, sis."
Marinette and Alya looked on as Chloé joined the family hug, smiling softly with tears streaming down their cheeks.
…
"There's still some things I don't understand," Marinette said as Team Miraculous gathered in Chloé's bedroom. The kwamis were recharging again and a few loose ends were bouncing through the mind of the Ladybug Miraculous wielder.
"Yeah!" Alya agreed. "Like, what's the power of the Peacock Miraculous?"
"And did Master Fu know what was going to happen?" Marinette asked. "Those pearls of wisdom he shared with me were oddly accurate."
"And where did you go when you fled Paris?" Adrien added.
Tara chuckled. "Well, first of all, my Papa didn't know what the future held," she smiled. "That's what the Peacock Miraculous is for."
"What!" Alya exclaimed.
"After Gabriel found out about André and me, I went back to Tibet," Tara explained. "But I wanted to keep an eye on my family, so I used the Peacock Miraculous' "Seeing Eye" to check in on Paris.
"The day before Marinette went to go see Papa, I had a vision of the future that showed me six important events. As I was still technically his assistant, I texted Papa this information and he gave Marinette advice about what was going to happen, in the form of pearls of wisdom. Then I got on the next flight to Paris and you know the rest."
"But why did you go back to Tibet?" Chloé asked.
"To do research on the Miraculous'," Tara explained. "There are more than seven Miraculous'. The rest have been missing since before Papa was born, but are documented in the Miraculous Book. I was in Tibet because that's where the Miraculous' were first used. I was hoping to find clues as to what happened to them."
"But Master Fu only gave me three pearls of wisdom," Marinette pointed out. "What were the other three events in your vision?"
Tara sighed. "One was Papa's death," she said. "The other two I cannot tell you directly- they haven't happened yet." Tara chuckled. "But as Master Fu's heir, I am the new Great Guardian. So now I get to be all mysterious and give out my own pearls of wisdom."
Tara reached inside her jacket and pulled out two jewelry boxes like the ones Master Fu had given Marinette.
"In here are the Turtle and Moth Miraculous'," Tara revealed. She handed one box to Alya and the other to Chloé. "When the time is right, Alya, you must give the Miraculous I handed you to the person who loves everything about you. And Chloé, you must give the other Miraculous to the person who loves a special part of you."
As the younger members of Team Miraculous pondered Tara's pearls of wisdom, there was a knock on the bedroom door. Mayor Bourgeois poked his head in while covering his ears with his hands. "Is your meeting over yet?" he asked. "I don't want to overhear any of the top secret information you may be discussing."
Adrien burst out laughing and soon everyone in the room joined in. Caught in the middle of the torrent of laughter, Marinette knew that everything was finally alright.
