Chapter 17: The Goblet of Fire

Sienna sat in her mum's living room, staring at the wall as her mum made her some tea. Remus sat on the loveseat adjacent from the couch that Sienna sat on, and he sat with his arms on his knees, leaning forward. He was concerned, yet his face showed nothing. He was trying to process what had happened at the Quidditch World Cup and the terror that his god-daughter had gone through. He was nervous about what was happening in the world and the resurfacing of the Dark Lord. Between finding out where the Dark Lord was and one of his best mates, Sirius, being free, Remus was mentally exhausted.

Sienna continued to stare at the wall in front of her. It was the day after the incident and she vividly remembers the, from what she now learned, Death Eaters being so close at one point and chanting "death" over and over again. She remembers the heat of the fire around her and how the smoke made her lungs burn. She remembers the smell of flesh burning and the eerie feeling of darkness surrounding her. Mostly though, she remembers Draco helping her. The way his face was determined for her to get to safety, it made her heart flutter a bit.

Alesia sat down next to Sienna and wrapped her arm around her daughter's shoulder. "Love, it's okay. You're safe here." Sienna nodded, hearing her but not processing her words fully. Her black hair braided into it's typical side braid was the only calming thing around her, keeping her grounded. Remus coughed and leaned forward.

"Sienna, maybe you should stay home for a year."

Sienna's head snapped towards her godfather. "I beg your pardon?" She whispered. Remus gulped and held his hands together in front of him.

"This could get very dangerous. You don't know why the Death Eaters were there, or what their plan is moving forward. I highly suggest you-"

"I what? Stay home and live in fear of this? Remus, don't you remember what happened last year with Sirius? I'm perfectly fine at Hogwarts." Sienna said sternly, crossing her arms.

Remus huffed at her. She was really starting to be like her father more and more. "Sienna, that is much different than this."

"How do you know? This time last year, we all believed a mass murderer was on the loose, yet I still went to school. Not to mention that man happened to be in Hogwarts! I was not harmed whatsoev-"

"You almost died last year, Sienna."

"No, I didn't. I wouldn't have died."

Remus stood up suddenly. "You are a child and do not understand what is happening. Bad things are coming, horrendous times are upon us. You need to listen to your-"

Sienna suddenly stood up, her patience running out quickly. "My what? My parents? You're not my father, Remus!"

Remus' eyes grew dark and cold. "I have raised you more than that-"

"Enough! Both of you!" Alesia suddenly interjected. "Sienna, do not talk to Remus like that ever again. Do you understand me?"

Sienna was about to argue back, until Alesia turned her attention to Remus. "You," her voice icy and threatening, "don't speak about her father that way."

Remus was stunned. He never heard Alesia speak to him that way, especially about Snape. Sienna looked at the two. She knew Remus had always been like a father figure to her, she always loved and appreciated him for that. But her father was now in her life, and doing the best he could. Remus cleared his throat and straightened his jacket. "It's best that I leave now." Without another word, Remus was gone with a loud crack sound.

Sienna huffed in frustration, running her hair through her messy side braid. Alesia kissed her on the temple and said, "you're going back to school, love. Don't let Remus scare you."

Sienna nodded and rested her head on her mum's shoulder. This year was definitely going to give her a run for her shillings.

Sienna and Ginny sat on the Hogwarts Express in their own compartment. Sienna was already dressed in her Slytherin robes as they were about 2 hours from school. Ginny was reading the Daily Prophet and Sienna was reading a muggle book that Remus had given to her years ago called To Kill a Mockingbird, and suddenly she is interested in the name Atticus. Ginny and her were chatting about the usual - their classes, which student in their year will come back with a different hair style, and of course, boys. Ginny continued on about Harry, Sienna was the only one who knew of her crush for him, although Sienna swore it is noticeable to other people. Sienna didn't speak of Draco, but Ginny knew that she fancied him. She didn't understand why, but she wanted her best friend to be happy.

Sienna was interrupted from her reading by an abrupt bang on their compartment door. Sienna jumped and formed a deathly glare at the persons responsible for the noise. Her eyes landed upon none other than Draco Malfoy and his two goons whom Sienna could not stand for the life of her - Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. The sight of them made her brain cells hurt. Sienna huffed at Draco, who was smirking at her in his all-cocky ways. His hair had grown within the last year, his blonde hair covering just the tip of his eyes. He had grown even taller than last year, now standing at five feet and eight inches tall. His eyes were as gray as ever, but Sienna adored them anyway, although she would never admit it.

Sienna stood up and opened the door. "Do you mind, Malfoy?" She asked, annoyance hanging on the tip of her tongue.

His smirk widened. "I thought you needed some distraction from your book. You looked awfully bored."

"Well, I wasn't, thank you very much. I actually was quite intrigued."

He rolled his eyes at her. "Whatever. Ready for another year this classless excuse of a school?"

"Oh shove it, Malfoy." Sienna went to close the door on him, but his hand stopped it in its tracks. Ginny was doing her best to not interject - she knew Sienna could handle the situation just fine.

Draco leaned closer to her and whispered just enough for her to hear, "don't tempt me, Snape." Sienna immediately blushed and shoved him in the chest.

"See you in a few hours, Draco." She sneered once again. Draco smirked and winked at the girl, walking away with his two cronies. Sienna locked the compartment door and plopped herself back into her seat. Ginny looked at her best friend with a hitched eyebrow.

"He's definitely the charmer."

"Shut it, Gin."

Ginny couldn't help but snicker.

Sienna made a beeline to her father's classroom to see him. It had been a long summer without him. She wrote often, as well as him, but it certainly did not make up for the time of not seeing him. Her backpack on his shoulder and Mavi's cage in her right hand. She finally made it to the dungeon and quickened her pace a bit. When she finally got to the Potions classroom, she knocked on the heavy wooden door. She waited a few moments until the door swung open by itself. She walked into the dark, green tinted room to find her father sitting at his desk at the head of the classroom, writing diligently on a piece of parchment paper. She smiled to herself and placed Mavi on the ground gently. "Hi, dad."

Snape looked up and noticed his daughter standing there, taller than he remembered. He placed his quill down, and stood up. "Sienna. You're here early. I figured you'd stop by after you dropped your belongings off at your dormitory."

She made her way over to his desk, and wrapped her arms around his waist. "I figured I'd spend some time with you before the ceremony."

Snape grinned slightly, embracing his daughter. "Well, this is a pleasant surprise." They both stepped away, Snape gesturing to her to sit at the closest table. "Are you doing ok since the World Cup?"

Sienna sat down at the closest high top table, and shrugged her shoulders. "Alright, I suppose. It's a bit unsettling how close they were, ya know?"

Snape nodded his head. "I'm glad you're alright, but Arthur Weasley heard an earful from me about not keeping better track of you. He should've been more-"

"Dad, it's not his fault. The crowd was chaotic. I've never seen such a frenzy before. If Draco didn't pull me to the side and help me find Hermoine, I would've-"

"Wait, Draco was there?"

"Yes, he was there with his father."

Snape's eyes suddenly froze. It couldn't be… but how… Snape blinked twice and cleared his throat. "I'll be sure to thank Malfoy for being a good friend to you."

Sienna smiled softly. "It was almost like he wasn't his father's son in that moment."

Snape nodded. "You'll learn that Draco does have a heart."

Sienna nodded. "I see it, dad. It's just, he's-"

"-a Malfoy."

She smiled softly again. Exactly.

Sienna sat at the Slytherin table with Olivia Hagshy and Chloe Redshaw, her two friends that stayed in the same dormitory as her. Sienna realized that they were the most tolerable Slytherin girls that she had met while at Hogwarts. Olivia Hagshy was from England and she had long blonde hair that wasn't quite as bright as Draco's, but it matched her deep green eyes perfectly. Chloe Redshaw was from Wales and she had stunning brown hair that sat perfectly at her shoulders. Sienna didn't write them over breaks or share her deepest darkest secrets, but came to notice that they weren't as narrow minded as the others in their house. Chloe didn't tolerate shit from anyone, usually telling Pansy Parkinson to fuck off more often than Sienna would like. Sienna preferred the "ignore until she leaves them alone" method. Olivia, if possible, could kill anyone with her eye roll and side-eye look. Sienna often found it towards the right people, like Crabbe and Goyle, and even sometimes Blaise Zabini when he was being a real git himself.

Sienna was getting around to saying hello to her fellow housemates before Professor Dumbledore began to speak. All the first years were sorted into their houses and it was time for announcements.

"Now that we're all settled in and sorted, I'd like to make an announcement. This castle will be not just our home this year, but home to other very special guests as well." Sienna noted Filch jogging down the aisle during this speech. "You see, Hogwarts has been chosen-" he was cut off curtly. Filch began whispering in Dumbledore's ear. No one could make out what they were saying. Sienna looked at her father and raised an eyebrow at him. Snape shrugged slightly, signaling that he had no idea what was happening. Sienna placed her arm on the table and rested her chin in her hand. She was starving and not interested in whatever was happening.

Until, that is, Dumbledore finished what he was saying.

"So, Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event - The Tri-Wizard Tournament!" The entire hall began to whisper to each other. Sienna suddenly became interested in the conversation.

"For those of you who may not know, the Tri-Wizard Tournament brings together three schools for a series of magical contests. From each school, a single student is selected to compete. Now let me be clear - if chosen, you stand alone." Dumbledore made a pointed look at his students to emphasize the word "alone". Sienna suddenly felt chills down her spine from hearing that word. "And trust me when I say, these contests are not for the faint hearted. But more of that later. Now, please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbaton Academy of Magic and their head mistress, Madam Maxine!"

Sienna turned her head to the Great Hall doors, which swung open and revealed a mass of girls dressed in beautiful blue dresses, hats, and coats. They were all gorgeous, Sienna noted, and they wore black stockings with blue Mary Jane style heels to match their uniforms. The girls waltzed into the Great Hall with class and elegance, sighing at the nearest crowd, butterflies magically appearing from their hands. They struted to the next crowd, and did the same thing. Eventually, they began to trot down the aisle, and Sienna noticed Ron and Seamus Finnegan staring at their bums. Sienna couldn't help but roll her eyes. Men, she thought. She caught a glimpse at Draco, who had a raised eyebrow at the girls. She wasn't quite sure if he was interested in their bums too, or if he was genuinely curious as to why there were butterflies flying all around them.

At the end of their performance, as Sienna would like to classify it as, all the boys in the Great Hall were whistling and hollering at the girls. Sienna rolled her eyes. She saw Hermoine and Ginny sitting awkwardly around the Gryffindor boys as they all went wild. Dumbledore settled the students down and began to speak again.

"And now our friends from the North! Please greet the proud sons of Dumstrang and their high master, Igor Karkaroff!"

Sienna's head snapped towards the doors once again, and appeared behind those doors were a group of teenage boys dressed in brown turtlenecks and matching brown slacks. They each carried a staff that was being tapped on the ground in a unison beat. Suddenly they stood still, their staffs disappearing, and started to run down the aisles. Sienna suddenly was anxious - why are people running? Why do they have no emotions on their faces? She did not like this performance at all. Once they got to the clearing in front of the tables, they started to do flips and kicks, which reminded Sienna of martial arts. She heard people starting to whisper again, which she hated, and realized they were all focused on the two men walking down the aisle next to the Slytherin table. It was...no way…

"Viktor Krum? The seeker?" She said aloud. Olivia and Chloe drooled at the sight of him. Beside him must've been the high master of their school. Viktor was moving fast and forward, but he looked around quickly and laid eyes on Sienna's blue ones. He didn't seem to notice her at first, but then he did a double take and stared at her for a moment. Sienna's breath hitched in her throat. He winked at her and continued to swiftly walk down the aisle towards his schoolmates. Olivia and Chloe looked at her, "no way he was doing that to you, Sienna!" Chloe exclaimed.

Sienna tried to settle her anxious breathing and looked up to realize the entire Slytherin table was staring at her, along with the Gryffindor table. Sienna then spotted Draco's eyes, who appeared to not be so happy that that just happened to her. Sienna anxiously sipped at her pumpkin juice and avoided eye contact with the blonde boy who made her heart jump. When was the food coming again?

After dinner and introduction of the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, who seemed out of his rocker in her opinion, Sienna walked back to her dormitory with Chloe and Olivia. Halfway there, she felt a hand grab her arm gently. She turned and her eyes connected with the dark gray ones she adored. Draco Malfoy.

"Hello, Draco."

He nodded at her. "Can we chat?"

Sienna looked at Chloe and Olivia, who rolled their eyes at the pair. "See ya later, lovers."

Sienna then rolled her own eyes, bidding farewell to the girls. Draco gently pulled her down an empty corridor and walked about 10 feet to make sure no one was around.

"You fancy Krum, eh?" He teasted.

"You're mad, Malfoy."

"He winked at you, Snape."

"And he also looked at multiple other girls in the school."

"But he winked at you."

Sienna crossed her arms and rolled her eyes. "Yes, Draco, he did. Is that a problem?"

"Well considering he's much older than you, I would say yes."

"That's the reason you're upset?"

"I am not upset!"

"You're visibly upset."

Draco shook his head, "Look, he's just bad news."

"I wasn't even considering it so I'm not sure what you're getting at."

"I'm just trying to protect you; you need to be careful."

"I can handle things myself, Draco."

"I didn't say you couldn't."

"Then why are we having this conversation?"

Draco grunted in frustration, "Please, Sienna. Listen to me for once. I promised your father I would look out after you. I couldn't live with myself if something happened-" He stopped suddenly, catching his own words. He cleared his throat and straightened himself up. Sienna raised an eyebrow at him, catching him in this act. He looked at her again. "Just… believe me, Sea."

Sienna knew that Draco only called her Sea when he was being honest with her. She looked right into his eyes and slowly nodded her head. "I'll be careful. I promise."

Draco's shoulder's visibly began to relax, nodding his head in satisfaction. Sienna smiled softly at him and wrapped her arms around his waist. Without hesitation, he wrapped his arms around her as well. Sienna could smell mahogany wood, Granny Smith apples, and a hint of peppermint on him.

Suddenly, it was her favorite scent.
