"Tell me again why you wanted to go to this museum?" Duncan had a very suspicious tone as they drove down the busy downtown road.
"Because it seemed interesting," Scarlet put on her best fake smile and looked out the window again.
'She's lying,' Duncan thought, 'but I don't know why.'
They continued on their way and before long they made it to the international acclaimed location. Outside where replica The Thinker statues, a large plastic sign, and banners listing off the awards it'd received. Duncan parked and the two walked in hearing the loudspeaker lady announce, "Welcome to the Human History Museum of California! We are one of many Human History Museum's, but you have found the original! Please grab your ticket at the booths and enjoy your stay!"
As they were in line for the tickets Duncan asked, "So, are Garnet and Finn interested in this stuff?"
"Garnet's interested in everything school-related and Finn's only got an eye for math."
"Well...is another guy friend interested?"
"No, Duncan."
"What about Connor?"
Scarlet blushed a little, "How do you know about Connor?"
"Oh, so they were right!"
"Who was right?"
"Garnet and Finn."
Scarlet scoffed, "Those blabber mouths...and for your information no he is not interested in this stuff. He likes sports...and photography." A laugh escaped from her brother and she glared at him, "I came here of my own free will."
"Uh-huh…"
They made it through the line and past the ticket checker when Scarlet said, "I have to go to the bathroom." She bolted through the first exhibit and into the direction away from the bathrooms.
"Scarlet wait he bathroom are the other way," Duncan half yelled.
Just then a small child and his parents went by saying, "Mommy! Daddy! I wanna see the new dragon exhibit!"
"It's not open today honey! It opens Friday maybe we can come back."
'Damn it Scar!'
Scarlet cruised around through the exhibits when she spotted a man adding a new sign to a post that read "Human's and Kaiju". The princess started heading in that direction and when she made it she found a ribbon, a sign reading "Open Friday", and a gigantic white curtain. Looking around she there weren't that many people around and the security guards were already distracted with someone else so she slipped under into the dark room. Unlike her brother Scarlet could see perfectly in a dark environment; one of the only things she considered to be a gift from her father. She spotted a tour guide station and behind the counter found an audio tour set. Turning it on she clicked start and listened to the soothing male voice.
"Hello! Thank you choosing the Human History Museum of California. This audio tour will take you through the entire museum, but if you are only wanting to hear certain parts look on your screen and click the button labeled Audio List. There you will everything from the full audio to the individual recordings."
Scarlet obeyed and found the exhibit audio at the bottom, clicked the button, began walking, and listened, "Humans for many years have believed that they were the only hyper-intelligent beings on this planet. Thanks to people like Darwin and Jane Goodall humans began to recognize that some of the other beings on this planet also possess the same intellectual capacity. Long before the both of them were the people of ancient Japan, China, and North and South Korea. During the Japanese Yayoi period, which lasted between 300 B.C and 300 A.D, art ranging from iron to pottery depicted dragon-like creatures that towered over humans. Stop on the sign labeled One to see these pieces."
Looking around Scarlet saw the floor sign and found a small iron sculpture, a vase that depicted the destruction of a village, and a textile that showed two different dragons. One was red spewed flames the other was blue and had rings coming from it's mouth. Her brows furthered, but she continued to listen for the next spot, "During Quin's War of Unification in China in third century B.C soliders were sent to scout the land of Zhao. A letter was sent to the general from what is suspected to be the Taihang Mountains. It translates to: 'Greeting from the mountains of Zhao! I have urgent news! We found beasts from the mountains, but they are also supposed to be underground. I am truly sorry, but we can not win this. We are a small scout group and we have already lost a lot of people. Many are asking for us to escape this. We can not defend against the strength of their flames and groundbreaking strength. I hope this message gets to you and I pray that you will listen to these words.' Quin did later conquer Zhao, but it is unknown as to what happened to these men. The people of the area still speak of these creatures. This is eighty-nine year old Deng Chen retelling the story of her grandparents told her: 'The mountain dragons they'd say were colored like blood. They breathed fire and had eyes like the sun. No man could stop them and no man couldn't help, but be scared. Then they started moving underground and people believed it was safe to venture up there.' Move to the sign labeled Two."
Scarlet moves to find a painting of Quin Huang and an animated map showing the progression of the war. The voice continued, "On the flip side in Korea during the Gaya Confederacy, which was between forty-two and five hundred and sixty-seven A.D, stories of sea monsters haunted the seaside. While they were also seen in China Gaya was the main location of sightings. They were believed to have used echolocation and like amphibians able to survive on land or in sea. Unlike the fire-based Kaiju of Japan and China these Water Kaiju or Mul-ui Goemul were not seen as often. This, however, did not stop there depiction in Korean art and stories. Move to sign number Three."
Before her was a large mural of a fishing boat in it a scared man and his crew and staring down at them was blue scaled, whisker faced Kaiju. Just then in the corner of her eye Scarlet saw something move. She paused the tape, took off the headphones, and asked, "Who's in here?" She took a whiff of the air and recognized the scent, "Piper?"
From behind the next piece of the exhibit, her classmate emerged. "Oh hi Scarlet," she smiled, "didn't expect to see you here."
"Neither did I. Why are you here?"
"Why are you?"
"I asked you first."
A sly grin came on the brunette's face, "Well I was just so excited about the exhibit that I figured it wouldn't hurt anyone to take a look. Now it's your turn."
"I just came for a little family trip."
"Alone?"
"My brother's in another exhibit."
"And your dad?"
"I don't know and I don't care. My turn why are you asking so many questions?"
"I'm a curious girl."
Scarlet narrowed her eyes, "If I'm not wrong a liar knows a liar. Now tell me the truth."
"The truth?"It was silent for a few seconds before she looked her in the eyes and said, "You and your brother aren't the only one cousin."
Scarlet's mouth hung open a little, "Cousin?"
"Yes, and I need that necklace," the once thought to be human began to shift. Her hair grew long and white with two green streaks, her skin became blue and scaly, and her nails grew thick and white.
The Kaiju princess grabbed her necklace and dropped the audio tour, "I'm guessing your names not really Piper either?"
"Got that right. My name is Mi-suk now where are you?" Suddenly Scarlet heard a loud noise that made her cover her ears in pain. Mi-suk then grabbed her cousin's neck and held a firm grip, "I don't really wanna hurt you. You're actually really nice. If you could just hand over the necklace things would go a lot smoother."
Still holding on to the necklace Scarlet angrily said, "Never." Scarlet blew a stream of flames in her face forcing her to let go and grab her face in pain.
Scarlet ran through the curtain and under the rope when a security guard caught her asking, "Hey kid what were you doing in there?"
"I was just looking!"
"Looking?" He started to go past her.
"No! Don't!"
"Uh sir," it was Duncan and Scarlet could tell by the look on his face he was holding in an angry look, "I believe something dropped in the Cenozoic Era."
"Oh God," and he ran off in that direction.
"Scarlet," Duncan made the face, "what the hell is wrong with you?"
"I need to tell you in the car."
All of a sudden a large bronze statue of another dragon is thrown from the Human and Kaiju exhibit. The two hybrids dodged as a worker screams, "The Eritrean Earth Kaiju statue!"
"Earth Kaiju? Duncan?"
"Don't ask me!" From the curtains came the blue scaled girl with a small burn on her angered face. The prince asked, "Who's that?"
'Our cousin and she's a Mul-ui Goemul."
"A what?"
"A Water Kaiju!" Scarlet stood up Mi-suk stomped towards them. Scarlet held up her hand, "Stop! You wanted this the easy way right? Well if you haven't forgotten I've got my brother here and unless you want a to against one fight, in public might I add, I think you ought to make a new plan."
Her face grew angrier, but she said, "This isn't over Scarlet. It's only just begun." She took a deep breath and let out a loud noise that broke the skylight above them. She jumped through leaving the two covered in glass.
"Scar...what just happened?"
"We got to talk to Belloc."
