"Where's Scarlet?"
"She's not here Jenna," the Kaiju prince was barely in his driveway before being investigated.
"Well where is she MEGTAF needs a story Duncan."
He turned to her fiercely, "And you don't think I know that? Look all I know is we went to the museum, Scarlet snuck off, and then all of a sudden we're being attacked."
"Attacked by who?"
"Attacked, that's all you need to know right now because that's basically all we know. Now if you'll excuse me I've got glass to pick out of my hair."
A few hours later it's well into the evening when Scarlet walks through the door. She was covered in sand and she let out a large sigh as she closed the door behind her. "Duncan, I couldn't find him anywhere."
Then she noticed the house was dead silent. Not sound, not a whisper, not a snore, dead silence. She looked over in the kitchen where there was a note left on the fridge. It read: "Scarlet I'm going out for a walk"
Scarlet's eyes narrowed and inhaled very deeply, "That's not his hand writing and that's not his scent." Grabbing her necklace, again, she goes, "Who are you?"
"Well," the male voice started, "since the cat's out of the bag I'm your uncle, Jun."
"And let me guess," she sighed, "your Mi-suk's dad and you want the necklace too?"
"You're very intuitive. Just like your father," he puts his hand on her shoulder. "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm just here to tell you if you want your brother back you'll have to hand over the necklace."
"Where is he?!" She flung his hand off of her as she spun around to see his face. His skin was a bluish gray like a shark, eyes a pupil-less black, and short white hair.
His head cocked to the side as he examined her face. A small grin fell upon his face as he said, "You look a lot like your mother, but I can definitely see your father with all that black hair."
Baring her canines, "Where is my brother?!"
"We took him back to somewhere you'd never guess."
'So, he wasn't just adding things to my bedtime stories,' she thought. Scarlet looks the intruder the eyes, "Take me to him."
~Meanwhile~
"Nice to finally see your face gwuymiw (goo-whe-mew)," she smiled at the fire kaiju who seemed unamused as always.
He folds his arms, "Why have you called me here Afa?"
Her senegalese braids blow in the breeze, "Have you ever considered that maybe I just want to speak with you? You were gone for quite awhile, again."
"Fourteen years is hardly any time for our species."
The female sighs and looks back out onto the city, "You know you can't pull that tough guy act with me. You know we could've been there for you Belloc?"
The king's body tensed a little as he whispered, "Xoxim (xocs-xem)..."
"You don't have to explain yourself. At least not to me."
Belloc sighed as he looked out into the distance with her. They sat in silence for about a minute when he grins, "You could have met them yourselves you know?"
"Oh and get in the business of the 'Mighty king of the Kaiju'? Didn't want you coming after one of us if something happened to them."
Belloc chuckled and whispered, "Mighty…"
"You are mighty just a little too much sometimes. We...I just don't understand why you wouldn't say something to us, anything. I know you're 'I can handle it Afa', 'No need to worry', 'I know what I'm doing', but….maybe it was just me I thought you'd at least come around."
The breeze blew again as Belloc looked her up and down. She sat up straight, her face was relaxed, but he sensed something was wrong. He shuffles over closer by her side and gives her a hug which she embraces. Her hands fold over his back; they're not sweaty in the slightest, but that could be from the dry ground they were on. He squeezed her a little closer and felt her heartbeat; it was racing. Belloc didn't tense up, he didn't sigh, he didn't even blink, he just naturally pulled away. He looks her in the eyes and ask, "Where are the others?"
"Aither is preparing for the Leri (Lee-ree) uk (uh-k) Iqirinsyx (eh-ker-ren-sicks)."
"And Jun?"
Her eye contact shifted to the ground, "He's handling some business."
"Look me in the eyes and say that." She peers back up at him as he notices her swallow before repeating herself. The king's eyebrows furrowed and his lips curled to bare his fangs, "What are you hiding xoxim (xocs-xem) dearest?"
"So...you're my uncle?" The young princess says while still holding her necklace. She sat on top of the water kaiju's head as they traveled through an underwater cave. They couldn't have been more than about an hour away from shore, but the waters were still extremely deep. At least deep enough to hide a full sized kaiju.
"Yes and no. We've all known each other for so long that we might as well be family."
"All?"
"Us leaders that is. Your father must not have mentioned this to you."
Scarlet scoffs, "He doesn't tell us a lot of things."
The whisker-faced Kaiju grinned, "Don't feel too bad about it. He's always been like that. Too strong for his own good, but he never does anything without purpose. I just can't imagine why he'd do differently with you."
"What do you mean?"
"Your father has always been strong in everything. Strong hearted, strong-headed, and strongly opinionated. So when he sticks to something he sticks to it unless shown a better way. When Duncan was your age he wasn't so MIA. He would go to Monster Island all the time, and even your mother knew about us."
"Wait, wait, wait," she shakes her head in confusion, "are you saying Dad was around before Duncan was sixteen?'
"Yes."
"How? That doesn't make sense…" then she thought, 'Unless someone was lying to me.'
In the distance, there were voices heard, two of which sounded male. Scarlet hopped down from Jun's head and quickly ran towards the voices. As she continued to run seemed like the tunnel was getting no shorter and the voices no further. Scarlet's mind was racing, 'I don't get it, why would Duncan lie to me? Him and Belloc both agree that they trained together, that he had similar test, that Duncan started at sixteen. This just doesn't make any sense.'
Then she stopped as she was presented with a choice, left or right. Scarlet closed her eyes for a brief moment to listen. There were multiple voices to the right and the low rumble of footsteps to the left. Concerned about the footsteps Scarlet took a whiff of the air, 'Duncan on the...right and...Belloc?'
There was no real option as she sprinted towards the right and as the voice became clearer the quicker she went. Finally, she came to a human-sized opening that had sunshine coming through it. A little confused Scarlet moved the rock that was blocking the entrance and climbed up to find herself surrounded by sand and saltwater. Looking up the sky she saw macaws heading towards luscious palms and banana trees. Somewhat amazed Scarlet continued through the jungle towards the scents and voices. She couldn't help, but observe her surroundings and realized there were more heavy footsteps all around coming from all directions. Not only that she felt this strange, strong sensation. Like a tickle in the back of her head that wouldn't go off. That didn't matter though because the voices were getting closer. At long last, she'd found her brother, but he was alone and bounded to palm tree.
"Duncan!" Scarlet ran up to him and shook the half limb man.
Duncan shook his head for a moment in confusion but suddenly his eyes grew wide, "Scarlet look out!"
The princess dodges a fist to the head and looks up to see who it is, "You!"
It was Mi-suk in her kaiju form who put her fist away saying, "Scarlet you must listen we-"
Scarlet tackled her cousin holding her hands to the ground and furiously asked, "Why did you take my brother?!"
Suddenly another pair of hands grab her from behind and locks her arms behind her. Looking behind as best she could Scarlet found a scaly, green-skinned young man with black dreads. As she began to struggle he goes, "Hey! Calm down! We just need the necklace!"
"And I'm guessing we're related too?"
"Well," his eyes divert away from her, "kinda."
Seeing his sister in trouble Duncan shakes himself out of his confusion and tiredness as best he can. As he broke free from the bounds on his hands Mi-suk took notice and headed towards him only to be thrown back by a kick in the abdomen. Scarlet still struggles with the unknown Kaiju and tries to headbutt him with little effect. Duncan runs over and throws his sister out of harms way. Scarlet hit the ground with a little thud as she watched the two males duke it out. It seemed like every punch that would be thrown was either blocked or dodged by the other and the few hits there were had almost no effect.
With a small smile, Duncan goes, "You're not half bad kid."
"Neither are you."
"I beg to differ," Scarlet had snuck up from behind, was able to get a hit to the neck, and then swiftly swiped the young Kaiju off his feet.
Duncan smiled, "Thanks."
"You're rusty; I could've handled that myself."
His smile turned to an annoyed frown, "But you didn't."
Looking around again at their surroundings Scarlet asked, "Is this Monster Island?"
"Yep," the prince sighed, "and how did you get here?"
She looks down and points to Mi-suk, "Her dad he said his name was Jun and that he's our uncle. Do you know anything about that?"
He looked at the two young Kaiju who didn't look as if they wanted to put up another fight. He asked, "Who are you guys?"
"My name," started the male, "is Aho'eitu son of Afa and prince to the Earth Kaiju."
"And I am Mi-suk daughter of Jun and princess to the Water Kaiju."
"Why does everyone want this necklace?" Scarlet asked holding the bright red crystal.
The two Kaiju looked at each other before Mi-suk answered, "That's not just a necklace and I think you know that too. It holds more power than you could ever imagine and we must get it away from your father. He knows more than he thinks he does and so do you Duncan."
"What?" The siblings seemed very confused and then the wind blew a scent through the air.
"Dad's close and if these guys are right then we need to keep that necklace away from him." He took off his shirt real quick and released his enormous wings, "Come on I'll fly us home."
She let her brother pick her up and just as they were about to take off the Water Kaiju yells, "Scarlet, I'll see you Monday."
Scarlet looks back at her with a straight face before they lift off into the sky.
They weren't even in the sky for long before they began conversating. Scarlet goes, "What did she by you two knowing more than you think?"
"I couldn't tell you if I wanted to Scar, but something is definitely up." He looked her in eyes saying, "Whatever you do don't let anyone get that necklace. At least not until you get some more information. Got it?"
"Right."
