A/n: Tada!
She stared at herself in the mirror again. It was a wonderful feeling being able to see her frizzy hair after sleeping. It was almost ten in the morning before she had awoke. It had been two days since she put the glasses first on. That night Miroku and Sango had met her at her apartment. They had driven her to a restaurant to celebrate. Then after, the pair of girls headed back to Kagome's apartment. She had be helpful to explain what things were to her.
Sango had giggled softly when Kagome had asked what the water lever in the fridge was. She had never used it in all the time she had been in the apartment. She had been unable to see what mode it was on and since she always got bottled water, she made no point for have Miroku tell her. They had stayed up, going through pictures of Kagome and Miroku as kids. When she had come upon a picture of Keade she became silent. Sango bid her good night, knowing that the image had brought up old wounds.
The elderly woman and miniature Kagome smiled at the camera man, in front of her middle school. She had been wearing the typical uniform for school children, a sailor outfit with green and red. Kagome had stayed up late that evening, going through pictures. Finally about midnight she had gotten a text from Sesshomaru. He had to go into Kyoto for a meeting the following day. He asked if they could push the date back till the following day.
She had agreed, stating she would just go to work like normal; and so she did. Dressing for the first time with eyesight was... unusual. She knew her clothing by years of muscle memory. But to see the bright colors and neutral patterns was something else. She had chosen a yellow dress, the brightest of all her dresses. She there she was in a bright yellow dress with frizzy hair. Brushing out the sleep of her hair, she mused at her reflection.
She almost forgotten what color eyes she had. Blue, those she had been told were from The Great Shikon no Tama's Guardian . A gift to her heirs, was what Kagome's grandfather had told her as a little girl. She thought about the shrine for a moment, pondering if she should visit. The damaged caused by the fire had been large. The insurance money was not going to cover all of it, she had already made calls to the historical building society in Tokyo about possible receiving a grant. The case was still pending. Did she want to see her former home like that? She had remembered getting a piece of her mothers wedding kimono, the damaged fabric broke her heart. She remember how her mother would gush she would wear it one day.
Sighing deeply, Kagome put the brush down in its place and moved from her bathroom. She continued to get ready and exploring her own home. She had realized she had chosen a very bright apartment, a glass wall had looked out to the city scape and a park. She stood there with the massive curtains open to the world. She could see people walking along the sidewalks going about their lives with no idea they were being watched.
Her cellphone rang out, the female voice telling her that she got a text from Tatchi her usual cab driver. Smiling she closed the curtains and grabbed her business bag. After slipping on her shoes she was out of the door. Locking the door and checking it, she finally made her way down to the front entrance of the building. Moving outside she found him already waiting for her, however the sleek gray car threw her off. Stopping in mid stride, she knitted her eyebrows in confusion. She had always envisioned the old cabs she saw in the black and white movies her grandpa would watch.
"Kagome?" Tatchi called out, confused.
"I didn't think it would be gray" she said softly, looking the car over again. Her nerves firing off, why was she being so weird. He felt like Tatchi, his teal aura expanding and ebbing like always. They locked eyes, his a pale pink. His brown hair was sleeked back with product and he was wearing a button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Her eyes flickered to the tattoos on his skin, his forearms covered in the ink.
"Wait. You're telling me you can see the color of my car?!" He exclaimed in shock, his eyes widening at her.
She took a step back almost in fear, her mind racing and arguing with itself. This was Tatchi, he had been driving her around for YEARS! There was no reason to fear him now, just because she could see. But her eyes kept going back to his tattoos. The bright ink displaying picture of mystical creatures and oni. But one un-eased her, it was of a oni's face. The black creature sported red eyes and large fangs that protruded from its bottom lip. She had heard of that picture once, it belonged to a gang. The Yakuz's clan's were vast, many mingling with each other.
"I got that one going under cover" he said, smelling the fear. He hadn't thought to cover up since she wasn't supposed to be able to fucking see. He was going to murder Shippo once he met him in the office today. Why hadn't he told him?!
"Under cover?" She questioned, clearly not believing the story she was being told.
"I am part of the security force for the Western Lands, one of the captains." Tatchi said, leaning on his car. He ran his hand through his hair and she inspected him farther.
"Security force. So you are telling me this cab thing is a side job or?" She asked, finally deciding that he was the Tatchi, but very very unamused at this development about himself.
"What? No didn't Sesshomaru-same tell you?" Tatchi asked, pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket.
"Tell me what exactly?" She asked, her brain trying to fit pieces of a puzzle together.
"He had me driving you around because he didn't want ya to get hurt again after the wreck," Tatchi said before he could stop himself. Her expression fell, realization washing over her. Fuck, she hadn't been aware of his job then. His boss was going to murder him. Shit.
"After the wreck. Are you telling me he had been having me watched since I was a child?!" She exclaimed, tears stinging her eyes. Had this job just been part of that? He choose her because.. for what she wasn't sure. But had it been because he had been having her watched.
"How many others?" She asked, her voice over taking Tatchi's. She was crying now, tears running down her face. Blotches of emotion poxing her white skin.
He sighed, he was officially fucked. He studied her for a moment before answering.
"Group of ten, we take shifts and different days. Your whole family was watched, you are the hair of someone he once loved." Tatchi said trying to explain it better then how it actually sounded.
Fire licked at her throat. The whole family. She opened her mouth to speak but no noise came out. If what he was saying is true then no one stopped them from going home that day. No one had tried to stop the wreck. Souta could have been caught, right? Keade had said he had flow out of the car seat. And what about Momma, she had died at the hospital. If someone was watching couldn't they have helped faster.
"Kagome, look, I'm sorry for keeping it a secret, but you know how he is. And trust me after the money spent on your safety" she held up a hand to silence him.
Her face was pale and sweating. Someone could have stopped it. She shook her head slightly and turned away from him. She re entered her building and disappearing from his sight.
"Ah fuck" Tatchi said, tossing the cigarette and getting his phone. Might as well confess to the devil he thought before dialing his boss.
