Kagome was worried, she had kept up a good wall around Kagura. But now she was alone to change and lost in her own thoughts, she was officially worried. She glanced at her phone, the screen lighting up every couple of seconds. She didn't need to read the messages or emails. The press release from the North had been all over every news stationed. Kagura had shown her some clips on it. Kagome slipped into the light blue pant suit. It was her size and fit just perfectly, which she suspected Kagura had planned on giving it to her prior to this morning.
She kept the jacket off, but laid it over her arm. The silk white blouse had fabric to tie a bow at the neck, which she did. Stepping out of the room, Kagome walked down the hall towards the stairs in bare feet.
"Miss Kagome,I'll hang the jacket up. I will have your other clothes washed and pressed," Jaken said, taking the jacket from her grasp.
"Thank you Master Jaken, I suppose the air quality is crappy in there huh?" She asked, nervously. She hadn't had the chance to shower. She wasn't embarrassed by the sex she had with Sesshomaru, but she wasn't ready to just announce it with his scent embedded in her body.
"Here, wear this if you are worried. That bitch would just love to pink on you for Lord Sesshomaru's scent. Though if she brought up the Late Inu Tashio the outcome would be most glorious," Jaken stated with a formal sniff before handing Kagome a charm bracelet.
"Are you suggesting you would wish to see that Master Jaken," Kagome asked snorting softly in amusement.
"I plead the fifth, Miss Kagome." Jaken said before walking down the hall she had just come from.
"Secret safe with me" Kagome whispered before giggling softly.
She had been on the fence about the toad, but he had been nice to her. However, she suspected Inuyasha and him had a long history of snipping at each other.
Kagome walked down the grand stair case, her feet cooled by the marble. She spied a maid entering the formal sitting room with tea and coffee. She opened the door, allowing the maid to enter before her.
"Thank you Ma'am" the maid replied, with a smile. She moved towards the antique sitting table in the middle of the room. Kagome smiled and bowed to the two new comers, who sat opposite her boss and his pack.
"Mitcho, you know my assistant Kagome Higurashi. Suki this is Kagome she had been working for me for almost a year," Sesshomaru said introducing the Lady of Dragons.
"A pleasure," Kagome said, bowing again. Suki's purple eyes narrowed, thus human was hiding her scent but not her aura. The Holy aura hummed around her as the young girl sat next to Sesshomaru.
"Ah Kagome, a pleasure to see you again," Mitcho said stiffly, clearly not prepared to see her again after his press release.
The air was tense, the maid softly clinked tea cups and coffee as she served her Lord and his guests. Inuyasha leaned into the soft chair he was occupying. He was gearing at Suki, annoyed this women thought she was better then everyone else.
Kagura began the light conversation trying to cut the tension in the room. Suki and her chatted about Paris and a recent trip to Italy.
"What about you Kagome-san, have you traveled?" Suki asked, her eyes trained on the younger girl. She watched her over her tea cup, hiding her small frown.
"No, I have not. I would like to one day," she replied formally, Kagome had not touched her tea. The liquid cooling in the cup.
"Mitcho we need to discuss this mornings deceleration of war" Sesshomaru said, cutting the chatter dead. He was annoyed, his morning spoiled by the sex addict in front of hi, though he did wonder about his old friends sanity.
"Sesshomaru, we have had several attacks over the past month alone. I must do what is right for my people," Mitcho said, his eyes almost daring Sesshomaru to argue. He was the one who allowed the attacks to go on for so long. It's clear the Holy Community is not going to stop, perhaps his mind was cloudy by the human girl next to him. Were they fucking? Had the nightly Sesshomaru been brought to his knee by a human?
The faint sneer on Mitcho's face was not lost upon Sesshomaru. His claw fingers set his coffee mug down on the table. He could only imagine what was going on through the mind of his old friend.
"Mitcho we are bound by the Coal-" he was interrupted but Suki then. Her annoying high pitched voice grating his nerves.
"Do you even give a fuck about your own kind anymore? Or are you too busy fucking humans now?"
The question hung in the air, Kagura's face paled before she had even finished speaking. Her red eyes snapped to Kagome's face then to her boss. Kagura was sure she could she the murderous glint in his eyes.
Inuyasha shifting, his claws extending. He growled lowly, earning a snarl in response from Mitcho. Kagome's eyes widened in surprise, this woman had iron balls or a death wish. She fought the urge to look at Sesshomaru. She could feel him, his aura pulsing and thinking.
"Watch your bitch" Sesshomaru said, his cool tone cause Kagome to shiver slightly.
"Sesshomaru understand where we are coming from, our own nobles are demanding answers and protection for their own," Mitcho said, grasping his mates hand tightly.
"And you don't think I am well aware of this? Or have my own nobles demanding the same from me? " Sesshomaru asked, Jaken entering the room causing a momentary distraction.
"Lord Mitcho, I am sure that Lord Sesshomaru sympathizes with your position. But out right declaring war does no one any good. It only strokes the flames," Kagome said, capitalizing on the distraction to speak.
"This does not concern you Miko. Leave, your kind is the reason we are here," Suki seethed out, her head cocking to the side. Kagome didn't baulk at the display, Suki's scales shifted colors from the cool brown tone to a darker hue. Suki hissed, her nostrils smoking in irritation.
"If you would pre-" Kagome was cut off by Sesshomaru.
"You will not speak to a female I am courting as such. Suki, remember your place" his jaws snapped out. Now he had enough, not only has she even dared to accuse him of sexual advances but to speak to Kagome like she was a beggar.
Kagome's hand settled on his, a silent acknowledgement. So much for keeping their relationship hidden for a while. His knuckles cracked under her hand, she still trained her eyes on Suki.
Kagura growled out, her own temper flaring. How dare this women speak to their pack member like this?!
"I am sure Lady Suki did not mean to insult you Lord Sesshomaru. The stress of the situation has effected all of us. Lord Mitcho, what are some of the louder complaints you have been getting?" Kagome asked, a cold sweat breaking out on her back.
Inuyasha stood, walking to the window, ready to break Suki's neck. How long was Mitcho really going to allow her to speak out of turn. Even has hot headed as Kagura was she knew better, she fell back to his lead. That was their way. Shit Kagome was human and she was doing it, trying to maintain the peace.
"Kagome, I realize this is hard for you because of what you are. But we have not seen the Holy Community come out and disavow these attacks. They are silent!" He said, rubbing his temple. His wife snorted in a laugh, before she opened her mouth again, he snapped his jaw. Suki's eye flew to her mate, angered and humiliated by his reproach of her. He had allowed her to speak, but now he was invoking old alpha traditions?
"I appreciate you realize the position I am in, however, the Community has spoken out about these attacks. Yes there is a small portion that agree with what is happening, but two of the larger houses , including my own, have spoken public ally against the attacks. You cannot paint us all with the same brush, we do not do the same for you,"
"Kagome, I don't think you are going to change his mind," Inuyasha finally spoke. His brother cocked and eyebrow at him, it was unusual for Inuyasha to really speak in such meetings with other lords. Sesshomaru suspected it was a habit he still harbored from the old days.
"Mitcho how long will your mate control you? Do you listen to everything she says rather then reality? You know full well every Lord has been under the same pressure, yet no one else has declared war. The Southern Lord has lost the most people and yet no declaration. Did Suki tell you to do it? Do you even actually rule anymore?" Inuyasha asked, his ears twitching on the top of his head.
Kagura just stared at him, mouth slightly open. Was he trying to start a war with the East?! Not only that was he trying to die? It was well known that Mitcho had killed for just their perceived slight against Suki. She was never going to be mated at this rate.
Mitcho's nose steamed with anger, the smoke coming out black. His scales turned a dark red, almost black.
"You stupid half breed," Mitcho said, before jumping at Inuyasha. Suki screamed, as she was pushed back into the couch. Kagome's hand flew out, trying and failing to throw a barrier up to prevent the attack. Kagura screamed, horrified at Mitcho's actions. Sessshomaru had moved before Mitcho, standing before his brother in moments.
Mitcho's claws ripped through Sesshomaru's shoulder, earning a scream from the females. Inuyasha growled, snapping his jaws. He lept to rip Mitcho's throat out.
"ENOUGH!" Sesshomaru roared out, tossing both his brother and former friend on opposite end of the room.
Kagome's eyes widened as he bleed, his shoulder shredded from the dragons claws. She ordered Jaken to get a water and some medical supplies. A security team entered the room, now standing between Mitcho and Inuyasha. Each men hurling insults and curses at each other.
"Inuyasha enough!" Sesshomaru barked out, now pissed off at how the day turned out. The younger brother shut his mouth but continued to glare at Mitcho.
"See them out" Kagura said, moving towards her boyfriend. Kagome, moved towards Sesshomaru; but his expression stopped her. His eyes was a pinkish hue, the stripes on his face had a jagged edge to him.
The security team escorted the Eastern couple from the room and out of the manor. Kagura was speaking to Inuyasha in a hushed tone, clearly worried and angry with him.
"Kagura take him home. Take care of your mate," Sesshomaru said, sitting down in a chair once more. The female nodded, before walking with Inuyasha out of the room. Kagome was standing still, Jaken appearing with the items she requested. She just nodded, before silently making her way to Sesshomaru's side. She was quite as she worked, she had unbuttoned his shirt, sliding it down off his wounded shoulder. She mopped up the blood as it stained his skin.
The couple did not speak for a long while. Both lost in their own thought, her fingers lightly brushed his bicep as she wrapped the wound.
"You realize I will be fine in a few hours," he said softly
" Yes, but doesn't mean I wont do this. Or worry," she replied. Another silence fell over them, a maid entered taking the now damaged tea and coffee cups. She left a fresh tea pot and two cups before leaving.
"I apologize for reacting to Suki's baiting about you. I did not mean to embarrass you. " he said as she finished up.
"Embarrass? I am not embarrassed, why would I be?" She asked, now sitting on the floor next to his long legs. She poured them tea and served him his cup.
"I spoke out about our relationship with out consulting you," he said, nodding at her for the tea.
"Oh that, well not the way most people would acknowledge a relationship. But I think she would have said anything to get a reaction from me or you honestly. Not the brightest tool that one is. However, I find it odd neither mentioned that fact I could see them." Kagome's mused as she rested her head along his thigh.
"Yes that did not escape my notice either. Let's go to lunch, we can stop by the office later. I will need some records on Mitcho and Suki." He said, his claws stroking through her hair.
