Chapter 15: Demon of the Mist
Bulma erupted from the cold water below the bridge, she clutched Yasui tightly and popped open a DynoCap and the speed boat appeared. She crawled up onto the boat and yanked Yasui up after her. Bulma performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and Yasui sat up and coughed up water in a violent fit.
"Thank you." Yasui said slowly as his strength returned to him.
"It's not over yet." Bulma stated and looked up at the bridge.
Mugen and Kisame collided their blades and clashed viciously as they leapt around. Kisame kicked Mugen back and swung horizontally at him, Mugen skipped back and groaned, "Knowing about Haki is great but knowing how to use Haki is the real question."
They clashed blades again in a mad flurry of slashes, Mugen slashed Kisame in the stomach and ducked beneath a swing of his massive sword. Kisame sent a swift kick that struck Mugen in the side and they clashed blades again. Mugen skipped back and saw Rinku and Tazuna at the end of the bridge.
Mugen turned and dashed quickly toward the two of them at the worksite and Kisame dashed after him. Tazuna looked horrified as the two of them charged forward and Rinku pulled a gunpowder ball from his satchel and lit the fuse. "More-More Fortyfold Speed!" He fired the ball and it exploded just beside Kisame and knocked him off balance. Kisame pulled moisture from the air and hurled Shark Arrows at the three of them, Mugen shielded the others with his body and took the attack.
"Mugen!" Rinku cried.
"Shut up, Rinku, I'm fine!" Mugen pointed his blade at Rinku, "Make my sword stronger and faster and then get the hell out of here with the old man."
Rinku touched the blade and said, "More-More Hundredfold Speed and strength!"
Mugen felt something ripple through his sword and he grinned, "Thanks. Now get out of here." He dashed at Kisame and they clashed intensely.
Shuhei blocked a kick from Lola and barraged punches that she jumped away from. He Shaved at her and jabbed her in the side with a Finger Pistol. Lola grabbed his arm and dug her claws into him and struck him in the chest with a crushing blow. They jumped away from each other and Lola hurled Shark Arrows that sliced into him.
Shuhei Shaved at her and Lola slammed into him with a swift palm strike, "Fishman Karate: Palmskin Strike!" The strike blasted into his chest and Shuhei stumbled back and Lola struck him with two Finger Pistols to the chest.
The Flying Nimbus dipped beneath the bridge and flew back up quickly with Bulma and Yasui riding on it. They leapt off the nimbus and landed on the bridge, Lola turned and stared at them frustrated. Shuhei tried to suckerpunch her but she blocked the strike and kicked him in the gut. Lola looked over and saw Zika and Hama standing on their feet again.
Bulma and Yasui dashed at Lola as Zika and Hama dashed down the bridge toward the worksite. Yasui sped forward and sent a kick that Lola blocked and they exchanged rapid blows. Bulma skipped up and blasted Lola with a gale of wind that knocked her back hard. Lola regained her balance and dodged a kick from Yasui and she Shaved at Bulma and jabbed her in the gut with a Finger Pistol! Lola kicked her in the side and knocked her down into Shuhei who sat catching his breath.
Yasui sped at Lola and they exchanged rapid blows and he struck her in the side with a savage kick. Lola ran Electro through her right hand and lunged at Yasui, he dodged away and Lola hurled Shark Arrows from her left arm and sliced up Yasui. Lola Shaved beside him and struck him in the chest with Electro. Yasui cried out in pain and slammed his fist into her nose. Lola reeled back and Yasui struck her in the head with a swift kick.
They stumbled away from each other and Yasui asked, "Why are you doing this? You're a lackey for Gato, how low can you get?"
"I don't work for Gato!" Lola snapped. "I only serve him. Master Kisame."
"You don't have to live your life for someone else! You don't have to kill because someone tells you to!" Yasui shouted at her.
"I would be nothing without Master Kisame." Lola said and smiled. "Everything I am today is because of him, I owe him my life."
Mugen slashed Kisame up the side and slammed a kick into the wound. Kisame grimaced and swung his blade at Mugen, he jumped back and Shaved forward at Kisame. Mugen moved to slash at him but Kisame moved his sword faster and smacked Mugen with the flat of his blade. Mugen stumbled to the side and Kisame swung his sword and slashed Mugen across his chest with the tip of the blade.
"Fang Over Fang!" Zika and Hama slammed into Kisame and knocked him back. They stood beside Mugen and stared at the Fishman.
"Hidden Mist Jutsu!" Dense mist swallowed the worksite and Kisame laughed wickedly.
Mugen gripped his sword and tried to sense Kisame in the mist. He felt the bloodlust in the air, he moved quickly and blocked a strike from Kisame's blade. They collided in a flurry of blades and Kisame jumped away into the mist. A sudden blast struck Mugen hard in the chest and rocked him back, "Gah!"
Zika and Hama dashed around and pounced at Kisame, Hama bounded up and snapped his teeth down on his leg and Zika struck him with his Wolf Fang Fist. Zika and Hama jumped away from Kisame and the mist continued to swirl around them.
"How?" Kisame spat, "How did you find me?"
"We can smell you, Hama and I can counter your mist jutsu!" Zika answered.
Hama yelped loudly as a blast struck him in the side and knocked him down. Zika picked him up and Kisame appeared beside them. He swung his sword at them and Mugen skipped up and blocked the attack. Mugen and Kisame clashed and Zika dashed off to set Hama down somewhere safe.
Mugen slashed upward and ripped into Kisame's chest as they clashed and Kisame struck a savage punch into Mugen's forehead. Mugen hit the ground and spun around in break dance form and slashed deep into Kisame's left leg. Kisame kicked him back with his other leg and Mugen jumped up to his feet. Mugen Shaved at Kisame and swung his sword up, Kisame stuck his palm out and deflected the attack and Mugen stumbled back. Kisame cackled and swung his blade and slashed into Mugen's side. Mugen screamed out in pain and Zika skipped passed him and struck a crushing blow into Kisame's gut!
Asuka found himself walking through darkness as pain ebbed through his chest. He walked and walked until he came to an orange oval shaped sarcophagus floating in the air. The sarcophagus began to shake violently and suddenly the darkness turned to light as a hand touched his shoulder. Asuka spun around to see a blonde haired woman smiling at him.
Asuka's eyes opened and he sat up quickly, instead of darkness he found himself in a blanket of mist. He jumped up and heard blades clashing and commotion nearby. A small explosion erupted and the mist swirled around and thinned out as Asuka charged forward.
Mugen and Kisame clashed blades and Zika launched himself into the fight. Kisame blocked Zika's attacks with the flat of his sword and he sent a kick that struck Mugen hard in the chest. A flying arm launched up and struck Kisame in the chest and Asuka Shaved up and slammed a kick into his gut. Asuka reattached his arm and jumped back as Kisame swung his sword at him.
Zika dashed up and punched Kisame hard in the side, Kisame grabbed his arm and yanked him forward and bit into Zika's shoulder with his jagged teeth. Zika howled in pain and Mugen lunged forward to swing his sword but Kisame used Zika as a shield and stopped Mugen from attacking. Kisame hurled Zika into Mugen and swung his massive blade to cleave both of them!
Asuka Shaved forward and leapt through the air and grabbed the cutout near the tip of the blade as Mugen moved to block with his sword. Mugen and Zika were knocked to the ground by the force of the strike and Asuka let go of the sword and landed on his feet. Kisame spun quickly and kicked Asuka in the chest with a swift strike and swung his blade through Asuka's waist.
Asuka's upper body floated away from Kisame as his legs jumped back, "Holy shit! If you had used Haki, I'd be dead!" Asuka shouted at Kisame.
Kisame huffed and gripped his sword tightly, "Dammit."
"Asuka! It's not that he didn't, he couldn't use Haki." Mugen called out as he and Zika jumped up to their feet, "He's low on energy just like us."
Kisame pulled moisture from the air and hurled Shark Arrows at Mugen and Zika, the arrows sliced into them and Asuka reassembled himself. Asuka used Iron Body and hurled his arm, "Chop-Chop RPG!" Kisame caught his arm and his fist detached at the wrist and slammed into Kisame's jaw. Asuka Shaved forward and slammed his other fist into Kisame's chest.
Kisame stabbed his sword down into the bridge and barraged a flurry of savage punches into Asuka's chest. They exchanged heavy blows and Kisame slammed a swift kick into Asuka's gut and punched him hard in the top of the head. Asuka jumped back and launched a Chop-Chop Rocket, Kisame ducked under the attack and Shaved forward and slammed a swift kick up into Asuka's chin. Asuka yanked his arm back and it struck Kisame in the back of the head and kicked him in the chest with his left foot.
Kisame kicked Asuka back and Mugen dashed up and slashed Kisame up the side. Kisame slammed a savage punch into Mugen's chin and Zika dashed up behind him and slammed a punch into Kisame's side. Kisame spun quickly and grabbed his sword and smacked Zika hard with the flat of the blade. Asuka charged forward, dodged a swing from Kisame's sword and jabbed a Finger Pistol into his chest.
Bulma and Shuhei stood together and watched as Yasui and Lola continued talking, all of them pretty banged up.
"Please, just leave the Wave Chain Islands and you can live out your life." Yasui pleaded.
"It's too late now." Lola said, "Kisame has likely slain a friend of yours by now and I doubt you'll forgive him for it. Either he and I will die together or we'll kill you all and leave together."
"I can't take this, it's like you've been brainwashed!" Yasui shouted at Lola and sped at her.
Yasui and Lola exchanged blows and she slammed a kick into his gut. Yasui gritted his teeth and punched her in the mouth. Yasui spun around quickly and kicked Lola in the side. They exchanged rapid blows and Lola jabbed him in the shoulder with a Finger Pistol. Yasui zoomed backwards and Lola dashed after him. Lola lunged forward and Bulma blasted her off balance with a gust of wind giving Yasui an opening and he slammed a kick into her side.
Bulma and Shuhei dashed at Lola and Yasui shouted, "No! Leave her to me!"
Yasui and Bulma exchanged blows again and Yasui barraged kicks into her chest and punched her in the forehead with a savage strike. He barraged heavy punches into her chest and kicked her in and head. Lola stumbled and lunged at Yasui, she struck him in the chest and hit him with Electro. Yasui yelled out and spun around quickly, he slammed a crushing kick into Lola's right side and she hit the ground hard.
"Please, give up." Yasui pleaded as he stumbled forward.
Lola stared up at Yasui and looked over at Bulma and Shuhei. She slowly rose up to her feet and said, "Just give up. You give up on me giving up on Master Kisame."
Yasui went to speak but lost consciousness and fell down, Lola caught him and gently laid him down on the bridge. Lola looked at Shuhei and Bulma and began walking toward them.
Shuhei smiled and dashed at Lola, they exchanged blows as they collided quickly and Bulma blasted Lola back with a gust of wind. Lola Shaved around and hit Bulma with Electro, Bulma grabbed Lola and shocked her with her Climate Baton. Shuhei Shaved over to them and struck Lola in the left cheek with a swift punch. Lola kicked Bulma in the gut and exchanged heavy blows with Shuhei.
Lola hit Shuhei with Electro and kicked him in the chest. Shuhei jabbed her in the chest with a Finger Pistol. They collided again and Shuhei slammed a savage punch into Lola's forehead and she stumbled back. Bulma struck Lola in the back with her baton and shocked her. Lola cried out in pain and fell to her knees, breathing heavily.
Lola's vision became blurry and she fell down unconscious as the past flooded her mind.
Lola was born in a small town on an island in the West Blue. The Humans there didn't have any issues with the Minks and everyone had lived in harmony. She had lived with her mother and father until she was five. One day, pirates landed on the island and attacked everyone. They slaughtered people and set houses ablaze as they pillaged.
Lola's parents were murdered by the pirates and they beat Lola when they found her hiding in the closet. The pirates kidnapped her and brought her along with them on their ship.
She was forced to clean the ship and help prepare meals as the pirates sailed around the West Blue as they pillaged over islands. After two years aboard the ship, the pirates decided to enter the Grand Line.
Lola had trained with blades onboard the ship and became very skilled with them. She didn't necessarily like the pirates and hoped they would die on the Grand Line. They sailed the pirate graveyard for two weeks before running into Kisame and he ripped into the pirates with his sinister blade.
Kisame walked around the ship and found Lola cowering in a broom closet. He looked down at her and said, "Hey, kid, what are you doing here?"
"I'm a chore girl." Lola answered.
"You won't survive a day alone on the Grand Line, you'll die like a dog." Kisame said, staring down at her.
She looked up at him and smiled, "Mister, your eyes are just like mine."
"Come with me, kid. Serve me and become a tool for me to use." Kisame said.
"Okay." Lola said and smiled.
The two of them sailed around the first half of the Grand Line for nine years. Kisame trained Lola and honed her abilities as they travelled and killed for money. Nobody had ever really meant anything to Lola except for Kisame, he taught her how to be useful. Without him she had no meaning in life and without meaning, was she even alive?
