Chapter 38: Build-Up to a Fierce Battle
Asuka, Yasui and Bulma watched as a car switched off its headlights and pulled up beside them. Zika, Hama and the man with wild red hair leapt out.
"Who are you?" Bulma questioned the red haired man.
"Yeah, what was your name?" Asuka asked.
"I'm Richter. Why aren't we down there right now?" Richter questioned and pointed toward the battlefield.
"Like I said, a single one of these Akatsuki guys has taken most of the mafia goons out." Bulma stated sassily.
"Hm."
"So, what's the plan?" Zika asked.
Hisoka gazed up through a hole in the ceiling at the night sky and smiled. He looked down and across the abandoned church at Volcier. Volcier sat beside Faye and Jinpachi near a couple of lanterns. Hisoka stared at him and licked his lips.
"I want to fight the boss." Hisoka said and smiled wickedly.
"The boss? The leader of the Akatsuki, you mean?" Renji asked slowly.
Hisoka nodded and said, "It's my dream to fight him."
Renji remained silent.
"He's powerful and intelligent. Such a fine specimen. Of everyone in the Akatsuki, I want to fight him." Hisoka said and licked his lips.
"Do what you want, Hisoka. If you can take one of them out for me I wouldn't complain." Renji said and nodded his head.
"I need to get him away from the others." Hisoka sighed and said, "He's typically with two or three others at all times when we gather like this."
"And how do we do that?" Renji asked.
Hisoka shrugged and said, "Once you kill the first one, the dominoes will begin to fall."
"The big man with wild hair, who is he?" Renji asked suddenly.
"Raizen." Hisoka grinned and asked, "Is he your first?"
Renji nodded and said, "I expect his physical power to exceed most of the others, am I correct?"
Hisoka nodded.
"Then I must fight him first. If I'm able to restrain and defeat a monster like him, I'll be able to do the same to the others." Renji said simply.
Hisoka chuckled and said, "Raizen is foolhardy and wants to protect the rest of the Akatsuki."
"Protect?" Renji asked, confused.
Hisoka nodded and said, "He's like the big brother, overprotective of the ones he cares about."
Boar/Sloth charged at Raizen and stabbed him in the left arm with three Finger Pistols. Blood spurted from Raizen's arm as he swung at Boar/Sloth and they blocked his blow. Boar/Sloth barraged a series of fierce strikes into Raizen's chest and skipped away from him.
Raizen laughed and shouted, "Yeah, bring it on!"
Leech erupted from the ground and tried to sweep Raizen's legs out from under him. Raizen wrapped thick muscle around his legs and completely stopped the strike. Leech skipped away from Raizen as Boar/Sloth Shaved forward and slammed a kick into Raizen's side. Raizen slammed a left hook into Boar/Sloth's face and sent him skipping across the ground.
"You Shadow Beasts are pussies!" Raizen shouted and cackled.
Boar/Sloth sprang up and Shaved forward, they sped at Raizen and he slammed a savage punch into their chest. They stumbled back and Raizen pierced their skulls with a Finger Pistol that blew brains out from the back of their skulls!
Leech popped up from the ground and kicked Raizen in the side of the head. Raizen stumbled to the side and slammed his left fist down on top of Leech's head. Leech fell to his knees and Raizen swiftly kicked him in the chin. Teeth exploded out from Leech's mouth as he stumbled back and Raizen clapped his hands, smashing Leech's head between his palms.
Raizen laughed and wiped his hands on his tattered pants. He looked up at the stone platform and shouted, "All done!"
"Ha ha, way to go!" Kitana called out and clapped her hands together.
Raizen grinned and thick diamond chains suddenly wrapped around him and trapped his arms against his chest. He stumbled around and was yanked into the shadows beyond the mafiosos' cars!
"Raizen!" Haku and Kitana shouted.
Machi leapt into the air and attached strings to clouds high in the sky and yanked herself forward through the air.
Renji slammed Raizen down on the ground as he landed on a nearby ridge. Asuka, Bulma, Yasui, Zika, Hama and Richter leapt back as they crashed down.
"Renji?!" Asuka and Yasui exclaimed.
"Get in the car and drive! Please, lead the others away from here. Go, now!" Renji quickly ordered the others as Raizen struggled to break out of the chains and rolled around on the ground.
"What?"
"Go, now!" Renji turned to Raizen and pointed at him, "Be quiet for a minute. My friends are gonna lead your friends away from here so we can have a proper one-on-one without holding back. How does that sound?"
Raizen grinned and said, "That sounds like a deal."
Machi flew through the air above them and Bulma reacted quickly, she slammed a heavy gust of wind into Machi that blasted her quickly away!
"Let's go, guys." Asuka ordered and he smiled at Renji.
Asuka, Bulma, Yasui, Richter, Zika and Hama leapt into the car and sped away from the ridge and left Renji in a Raizen in a large cloud of dust.
Machi landed on her feet near the mafiosos' cars and the others appeared beside her.
"There they go." Franklin said and pointed at tail lights speeding away from the area.
Gabriel hopped into the drivers' seat of one of the cars and shouted, "Let's go!"
Franklin hopped in the passenger seat, Haku had the left window, Machi was in the middle and Kitana had the right window. Gabriel floored it as they sped after the car and kicked up waves of dirt and dust as they went.
"I can't believe he got kidnapped." Haku groaned.
"That blue haired bitch blew me away." Machi said and clenched her fists. "She's mine."
Richter floored it through the desert area as they made their way back towards Yorknew City. Yasui was in the passenger seat and he stared into the mirror at the pursuing vehicle. Asuka, Bulma, Zika and Hama were crammed in the back seat.
"Well, his plan worked." Richter said as he looked in the rearview mirror.
"What happens when they catch up to us?" Yasui asked.
"If they catch up to us, we'll fight them." Asuka said simply.
They sped through the desert and Yasui stared out of the window at four figures lurking in the shadows as they went. He pointed them out but nobody else spotted them.
Gabriel pursued the car ahead and swerved around a large rock in the road. The car ran into a heavy swampy patch of ground and was brought to an abrupt halt. Gabriel, Franklin, Kitana and Haku erupted from the vehicle as it was sucked into the patch of swamp that morphed into a tall man with greasy skin and black hair.
"Machi was in an unfortunate seat." Haku said and sighed.
"What did you do to her?" Franklin asked the greasy man.
"My name is Slug, I'm a Swamp-Human." The greasy man said and smiled.
A man in a hybrid falcon form dive bombed through the air and slashed Haku across the back as he kicked him down. Haku hit the ground and sprang up quickly as the falcon-man flapped his wings and took to the sky.
A broad shouldered man in a pink jacket with white pants and boots sprang out from the shadows and tossed a handful of smoke bombs that erupted around the Akatsuki.
"Down!" Gabriel shouted and fired his Ambidextrous Machine-Gun Fingers through the smoke at the surrounding opponents.
The smoke was blown away by a heavy gust of wind and the four Akatsuki members stared off with the four smiling figures.
The fourth man was in a hybrid koala form and wielded a large hammer, "I'm Mouse."
"Crow." The man in the pink jacket said.
"Falcon." The birdman said as he flapped his wings and hovered in the air.
"One, two, three, four." Kitana counted them slowly.
"The chain user isn't here." Franklin said slowly.
"One of these guys could have been just holding a chain." Haku suggested.
"Then they would have been in the car we were chasing." Gabriel said and nodded his head.
"Then."
"The chain user isn't a Shadow Beast."
Falcon flapped his wings and sped forward at the Akatsuki members, he flipped around in the air and sent a flurry of Tempest Kicks down at them. Kitana and Haku Shaved away to the left, Franklin and Gabriel Shaved to the right.
Gabriel aimed his arms and unloaded his finger guns at Slug, Crow and Mouse; they scattered around as he fired and Falcon sent more Tempest Kicks down at him. Gabriel dodged around as Franklin Moon Walked through the air and slammed a heavy punch into the side of Falcon's head.
Mouse Shaved at Haku and swung his hammer horizontally at him. Haku leapt over the swing and slammed a swift kick into Mouse's throat. Kitana Shaved up behind Mouse and Crow blocked her from sneak attacking his ally. Crow and Kitana exchanged a flurry of blows as Haku evaded savage swings from Mouse's hammer.
Slug's left arm turned into swamp and elongated as he swung a massive punch at Gabriel, "Mudslap!" He struck Gabriel and sent him skipping across the ground in a tangle of swampy goop.
Falcon flapped sloppily through the air as he recovered from Franklin's punch. Franklin used Shave and Moon Walk to propel himself at Falcon and slammed a Finger Pistol into the birdman's throat. Falcon morphed back into his Human form and fell through the air and slammed into the ground.
"Swamp Ball!" Slug hurled a massive ball of swamp through the air and Franklin quickly evaded the disgusting attack.
Franklin landed on the ground and stared at Slug as he cracked his neck. "I'm assuming that you're the one that emptied the vault, eh?"
"Looks like we lucked out." Slug said and smiled dumbly.
"Not quite." Franklin said as he opened an Air Door and stepped inside the Air Dimension.
Richter slammed on the brakes and came to a stop in front of the Bayloke. "Go on, get out. I need to find my crew."
"Thanks for the ride, Richter." Zika said and Hama barked as they got out of the bar.
"Later." Yasui said as he got out.
Bulma remained silent as she climbed out after Zika.
"Thanks for the assist, Richter." Asuka said and smiled as he climbed out of the car.
"Whatever." Richter said and sped off down the street.
"What a dick." Bulma muttered to herself.
"C'mon guys, let's head inside and wait for an update." Asuka said and walked through the doors into the lobby of the Hotel Bayloke.
"We're just gonna sit around?" Zika and Yasui questioned.
"Yeah, Renji wanted to take down that big guy all by himself. I trust that he'll get it done." Asuka said and smiled.
"What about the other members of the Akatsuki?" Zika persisted.
"We lost them, didn't we?" Bulma said slowly.
"What if they just turned around and went back?" Zika persisted further.
"If they think we have their friend then they'll start searching the city when they get here. Let's lay low and wait for Renji to check in." Asuka said and ended the conversation.
The group of them loaded into the elevator and began riding it up.
"What about Shuhei and Mugen?" Yasui asked.
"They probably took a long way back to avoid running into the Akatsuki." Bulma suggested.
"Hm."
Machi was regurgitated from Slug's unconscious body and she shook mud off of herself and swore. Gabriel, Haku and Kitana stood over the corpses of the other Shadow Beasts as Franklin tied up Slug with a length of rope.
"That was disgusting." Machi muttered.
"Agreed." Gabriel said and wiped muck from his shoulders.
"Let's head back to the church and talk with the boss." Franklin said as he threw Slug over his shoulder.
"What about Raizen?" Haku asked.
"There's nothing we can do now." Gabriel stated and spat.
"Let's get back and we'll see what the boss has to say." Kitana said and patted Haku on his shoulder.
Haku smiled and said, "Yeah, sure."
The five of them set off through the desert with Slug as they made their way back to the church.
Renji tightened the belt on his purple gi and removed his orange scarf from around his neck. He tucked the scarf into his satchel and dropped it on the ground. He cracked his knuckles and neck and breathed deeply.
Raizen stood twenty meters from Renji taking a long relieving piss on a large red rock. He chuckled and sighed happily as finished up soon after. He zipped up his tattered pants and turned to face Renji.
"Do you remember everyone that you kill?" Renji asked slowly.
Raizen laughed and said, "So you're after revenge, then. The answer is no, most of them aren't worth remembering."
Renji pulled the blindfold from his head and tucked it into his gi. A third eye opened on Renji's forehead and its piercing red gaze glared at Raizen.
"Whoa-ho! A three eyes, huh?" Raizen spat and said, "Well it looks like just one."
"The Akatsuki attacked my village about nine years ago. You murdered my clan and stole the eyes from their corpses." Renji said and pointed his left index finger at Raizen.
"Doesn't ring a bell." Raizen said and grinned.
"Enough talk." Renji said and pulled his Power Pole from its sheath on his back.
"Sounds good to me!" Raizen shouted and Shaved at Renji.
