Chapter 45: Sidebar
"This place gives me a weird feeling. The whole city makes me feel sick." Asuka said slowly as he stared up at the ceiling.
"What do you mean?" Bulma asked.
"The city is screaming." Mugen said matter-of-factly.
"It's not the city." Renji replied to Mugen quietly.
"It's people here in the city. Somewhere bad." Shuhei added.
"Well, that's fuckin creepy." Yasui said and chuckled.
Asuka ducked beneath a high kick from Wakaba and sent an uppercut at her. Wakaba jumped away and glared at Asuka, "You fucking upstart! How dare you come into my city and challenge me."
"I'm not gonna let you enslave people and sell them away as you please." Asuka declared as he clenched his fist. Asuka pointed at Wakaba and said, "I may not have freed those people but, I'm sure as hell gonna stop you from hunting them down!"
Wakaba Shaved behind Asuka and slammed a fierce punch into the side of his head. Asuka stumbled to the side and blocked a swift kick with his left arm. Asuka and Wakaba exchanged blows and Wakaba slammed a wicked punch into Asuka's stomach and sent him skipping across the pavement.
Asuka hopped back up to his feet and grinned as he began walking toward Wakaba, "This city has made me feel sick the whole time I've been here. When I came across all of those people scrambling out of the auction hall, that sickness quickly faded as they escaped your tower prison."
Wakaba furrowed her brow and Shaved at Asuka. They collided in the empty street outside of the auction hall.
Shuhei, Mugen, Bulma, Renji, Yasui, Zika and Hama charged down the street as chaos echoed through the nearby streets of Yorknew City. The group of them came to a skirmish between liberated people and armed guards.
Shuhei cracked his knuckles and said, "If Asuka is fighting the boss, then we can beat down the goons."
Mugen, Renji, Shuhei and Yasui dashed into the skirmish quickly and attacked the armed guards. Mugen held his sword by the scabbard and thrust his arm at a group of goons, "No Sword Style; Shove!" A wave of blunt force bashed into the goons and sent them crashing into a wall.
"Hey! You stole my move!" Bulma shouted as she waved her baton and blasted goons off of their feet with a gust of wind.
"I knew how to do that long before I met you!"
Shuhei and Yasui dashed around and struck down goons with swift kicks as Renji struck others with his Power Pole. Zika and Hama leapt around and slammed into the goons as they got up to their feet and knocked them down again.
The group of them stood and smiled as the liberated people stomped over the goons and further threw the city as they pushed for the ports.
"Why didn't you cut those guys, copycat?" Bulma asked and grinned at Mugen.
"I didn't copy anything!"
"Yeah, something feels off with your sword." Renji said and nodded his head.
Mugen sighed and said, "It's broken."
"Bleck!" Tatsuki gagged and swallowed a chunk of the Clear-Clear Fruit. "I've drunk a lot of poison but that was horrid." Tatsuki smiled and placed the fruit onto Feitan's corpse.
"Yeah, it's not great." Haku said and smiled.
"So, what now?" Machi asked.
"We're leaving." Volcier said as he walked slowly toward the double doors. "Franklin and Faye will sell the goods and divide our shares."
"Hey, kid, catch." Gabriel said and tossed a Transponder Snail to Tatsuki.
"We can chat through these, then?" Tatsuki asked.
"You'll get a call when our next job is set up." Faye explained.
"But for now, we go our separate ways and leave the island." Volcier said as he reached the doors and others followed after him.
Yamanaka Sakura and her crew, the Flower Pirates, walked slowly through the street toward the west port of Yorknew City as the sound of chaos echoed all around them. Sakura smiled as she stared up at the clear night sky, staring at the moon.
"What's next, Sakura?" Tiger Lily, the Longleg woman in the unitard, asked as they walked.
"Wherever the Log Pose directs us." Sakura said and chuckled.
"The Log Pose is pointing east and north." Kosai, the tall woman with green hair, said as she checked the pose on her wrist.
"Then we're heading east and north." Sakura said simply.
"What about that red haired guy?"
"Hm, Flint Richter? He'll probably stay mad that we stole these Devil Fruits." Sakura laughed and said, "I'm more interested in the other ones."
"Other ones?" Kosai asked.
Sakura stopped walking and turned to face her crew. She smiled and said, "Senju D. Asuka and his crew. All of them have an individual bounty."
"Yeah but, they aren't very high bounties. Only a few of them are higher than ten million Beli." Tiger Lily stated.
Sakura shook her head and said, "That doesn't matter. It means that each of them were tagged specifically for a bounty. They're all seen as a threat to the World Government, even if they're rookies."
"So? Are you saying they're special?"
Asuka ducked under a kick and launched a Chop-Chop Rocket flying up at Wakaba's head. She jumped back and dodged as Asuka's detached arm swerved through the air and followed after Wakaba. Asuka Shaved forward as Wakaba smacked his detached arm away and he struck his other fist into her chest!
Wakaba skipped back as Asuka reattached his arm and grinned. Wakaba held her left arm up and thick straw wrapped around her forearm and hand, forming a long blade on her arm.
"Whoa, that's awesome!" Asuka exclaimed as Wakaba dashed forward and swung her Straw Sword at him.
He ducked beneath the swing and Wakaba struck him in the side with a swift kick. Wakaba slashed Asuka across his right cheek as he skipped away from her and she grinned wickedly at him.
Blood trickled down Asuka's cheek as he jumped away from Wakaba and he smirked, "Haki, huh?"
Wakaba Shaved at Asuka, he blocked a high kick and evaded a swing of her Straw Sword. Asuka stepped forward and slammed a fierce punch into Wakaba's head. She stumbled back and ducked beneath a wide left hook from Asuka.
She swung her Straw Sword at Asuka's legs and he leapt up into the air and twisted himself around. Wakaba jumped up and slammed her right fist into the back of Asuka's head and sent him crashing into the ground. Wakaba fell toward Asuka and he rolled away as she pierced the concrete with her straw blade!
Asuka rolled and skipped up to his feet as Wakaba yanked her Straw Blade from the ground. He Shaved forward and dodged several slashes as Wakaba lunged at him, Asuka spun around Wakaba slammed a savage kick into her side. Wakaba stumbled to her right and swung her blade diagonally, slicing Asuka across the chest.
Wakaba lunged at Asuka and punched him in the jaw. Asuka detached his body at the waist and levitated his upper body to avoid Wakaba as she swung horizontally. Wakaba moved to skip away from his legs as Asuka slammed his left fist into Wakaba's forehead.
Asuka launched his right arm after Wakaba as she Shaved away and struck her in the chest with a Chop-Chop Rocket. Wakaba Shaved beside Asuka and slashed him up the side with her Straw Sword. Asuka yanked his right arm back as he jabbed at Wakaba with his left fist. She ducked beneath his jab and thrust her blade through Asuka's chest!
Asuka screamed and coughed blood as Wakaba yanked her Straw Sword from his chest. Asuka's right arm reattached and he struck Wakaba in the cheek with a savage punch. Wakaba stumbled back and laughed as Asuka staggered to his right and fell to his knees.
"Pathetic, hahahaha! Senju D. Asuka, you're nothing but another big headed rookie." Wakaba said as her Straw Sword shrunk and disappeared into her arm.
Asuka held his chest as blood spilled through his fingers. His vision began to dim as he glared at Wakaba and said, "I refuse to be beaten by you."
"You're already dead, you punk!" Wakaba laughed and said, "Thousands of fools like you have taken to the seas to become Pirate King and were slaughtered by better pirates."
Asuka's vision went completely black and he slumped to the ground as Wakaba slowly walked away…
Asuka found himself walking through darkness as pain pulsed through his chest. He walked and walked until he came to the orange oval shaped sarcophagus floating in the air. The sarcophagus began to shake violently and suddenly the darkness turned to light as a hand touched his shoulder. Asuka spun around to see a blonde haired woman smiling at him.
"Asuka, don't just lay there. I know you aren't done yet." The woman said and smiled.
"Who are you?" Asuka asked as the woman gently touched his chest and warmth flooded through his body.
Asuka's eyes snapped open as once again, in the left hemisphere of Asuka's brain, something snapped and his focus sharpened greatly. He leapt up to his feet and stared at Wakaba as she stopped walking.
She glanced over her Shoulder as Asuka Shaved at her and they exchanged a mad flurry of blows. Asuka ducked beneath a punch and struck Wakaba in the stomach with a swift punch. Wakaba stumbled back and Asuka lunged at her, piercing Wakaba's forehead with a Finger Pistol!
Wakaba stumbled back and grinned wickedly, "Life Minus." A strange straw voodoo doll emerged from Wakaba's right shoulder and fell to the ground. Asuka saw that the doll had a hole in its forehead.
Wakaba lunged at Asuka and he Shaved to his right to evade her. Wakaba stared at him as thick straw wrapped around her body, adding to her height and giving her the appearance of a scarecrow, "Demon Face."
Asuka dashed at Wakaba and they exchanged fierce blows as they clashed. Wakaba had large black nails at the ends of her fingers and raked Asuka in the stomach as she swung at him. Asuka jumped away from her and dodged wide swings as Wakaba Shaved after him.
They exchanged blows and Wakaba scratched Asuka's chest with her nails. Asuka slammed his left fist into Wakaba's chest and sent his right fist flying up into her chin. Wakaba stumbled back and hurled all ten of her nails at Asuka, they sliced into him as she grew new nails.
Asuka Shaved at Wakaba and detached his body at the waist. His upper body spun around and he slammed his right fist into the side of Wakaba's head. She stumbled to the side as Asuka's legs struck her in the stomach with a powerful kick!
Wakaba leapt away from Asuka as she screeched in anger. Asuka reassembled himself and Shaved at Wakaba, she struck him in the chest with a swift kick and sent him stumbling back. Straw erupted from Wakaba's right arm and formed into a curved Straw Blade.
"Stay down, you punk!" Wakaba screamed and dashed at Asuka. She swung her Straw Blade swiftly as Asuka dodged around her attacks.
"I already told you!" Asuka bellowed and hurled a Chop-Chop Rocket that slammed into Wakaba's left cheek, "I won't lose to you!" Wakaba stumbled back a step as Asuka yanked his arm back to him.
"You have a small price on your head but the Navy wants you badly. And your blue haired friend." Wakaba said and grinned an evil grin on her scarecrow face.
Asuka clenched his fists and glared at Wakaba.
"The entire Navy and Seven Warlords have seen her wanted poster. Nefeltari Bulma." Wakaba cackled and said, "And you… They want to interrogate you but I'm just going to kill you."
Asuka Shaved at Wakaba and ducked under a swing of her blade, he spun around and struck her in the side with a swift kick. Wakaba spun around and slashed her Straw Sword at Asuka as he jumped back and launched a Chop-Chop Rocket as he landed on his feet.
Wakaba dodged his flying arm and dashed at Asuka. He ducked under her blade as she swung and she kicked him in the side of the head. Asuka separated his legs from his ankles as he was struck and he flew to the side. With his feet still on the ground, Asuka controlled his arm as Wakaba chased after his body and his Chop-Chop Rocket slammed into the back of Wakaba's head!
Asuka reassembled himself quickly and dodged Wakaba as she lunged at him. Wakaba swung her blade arm and sent a flying slash at Asuka. He ducked beneath the flying slash and Wakaba Shaved forward and kicked Asuka in the chin. Asuka detached his head as he took the blow and it shot into the air.
Asuka's body slammed his left fist into Wakaba's chest and jabbed a Finger Pistol into her throat. Asuka's body skipped back and reattached with his head as another voodoo doll fell out of Wakaba's chest, "Life Minus."
Wakaba cackled and walked slowly toward Asuka. Asuka breathed deeply and closed his eyes, letting the intense focus in his mind guide him. Wakaba Shaved behind Asuka and slashed down at his head, Asuka spun away from the slash and ducked beneath a swift jab. Asuka blocked Wakaba as she kicked at him and he jumped away from her.
With his eyes still closed, Asuka grinned and raised his fists in the air. "I don't care how many lives you have, I'll beat them all out of you!"
Shuhei, Yasui, Zika and Hama beat down goons at the south port as Renji, Mugen and Bulma helped the liberated people steal ships to escape the island. The port was chaotic but the group watched as dozens of ships raised their anchors and sailed away from Yorknew City.
"Here." Bulma said as she handed a large DynoCap to Yasui. She summoned the Flying Nimbus and hopped on it.
"What are you doing?" Zika asked.
"I'm gonna go find Asuka." Bulma said simply.
Yasui pressed the button on the end of the DynoCap and chucked it into the water. The Whore's Pocket Watch appeared on the water and sat still, waiting for its crew.
"Ah, the Whore! I've missed her." Mugen said and smiled as he walked toward the ship.
"You shouldn't go alone." Zika said to Bulma.
"The nimbus can only carry two people." Renji said and walked toward the ship.
"Oh, right." Zika said slowly.
"I'll be careful." Bulma smiled and said, "I'll pick up Asuka after his fight and we'll come back here."
"We'll be ready to leave when you get back." Yasui said and smiled.
Bulma flew away from the port on the Flying Nimbus.
