Chapter 49: The White Berets
Twenty White Berets walked slowly around Angel Beach and made their way slowly toward the cabin. Each of them had small wings that curved upward. They wore tight purple t-shirts, wide blue trousers with white cloud-shaped spots across them; and white berets with the letters 'WB' on them. They wore strange 'U' shaped boots and one of them wore a baby blue jacket around his shoulders.
"Captain Fowler!" A White Beret shouted and pointed at Asuka, Mugen and Renji slowly approaching the group of them from the side.
The man in the baby blue jacket turned at the trio and smiled, "I see them. Hello, gentlemen!"
The trio walked closer toward the soldiers and stopped on the beach. "What do you guys want?"
"You've been invited to speak with the mighty God Gin." Captain Fowler said and nodded.
"I don't care about that." Asuka said simply.
"Now listen, boys. You're pirates from the Blue Sea, right?"
"We don't care about your God or helping you kill people." Renji said and smiled at the White Berets.
Three of the soldiers propelled forward and Mugen pulled Fantoma from its scabbard, he cut the three of them down with a swift horizontal slash. The soldiers fell down on the clouds as Mugen flicked the blood from his blade.
The White Berets skipped away from the trio and pulled out their bows. They aimed arrows at the trio and waited for Captain Fowler's command.
"I thought your sword was broken." Asuka said and looked at Mugen's sword.
"Yeah, it feels really strange." Renji added.
"Loose!" Fowler shouted and the soldiers shot their arrows at the trio.
They dodged around the arrows and attacked the soldiers. Renji twirled his Power Pole around and struck down soldiers as Asuka barraged powerful punches at them. Mugen hurled a Getsuga Tensho at Captain Fowler; he held a strange seashell up and the flying slash was stopped when it reached him!
The attack disappeared and Fowler propelled himself forward with his strange boots. Renji swung his staff and Fowler ducked beneath it, he slammed the shell against Renji's chest and blasted him back with an intense impact!
Renji was sent flying back and Asuka struck Fowler in the side with a powerful kick. Arrows pierced Asuka's chest and passed through him. Mugen skipped around and sliced into the soldiers with swift slices and Shaved beside Fowler.
Captain Fowler used his boots to propel away from Asuka and Mugen as he pulled two shells from his pockets. Asuka Shaved at Fowler and he aimed one of the shells forward, Asuka appeared beside him and Fowler shot Asuka with a bolt of lightning from the seashell! Asuka screamed as he was electrocuted and Mugen appeared behind Fowler.
Mugen swung down at Fowler and he dodged to his left. Fowler aimed the other shell at Mugen and blasted a wave of flames that Mugen swatted away with his sword. Captain Fowler propelled himself at Asuka and leapt in the air above him. Asuka tried to dodge but Fowler slammed a kick down onto the top of the head and sent him down through the cloudy beach!
Fowler evaded Mugen as he swung his sword at him and Renji struck the Captain in the left shoulder with his Power Pole. Fowler thrusted away from the duo as more White Berets charged toward the beach.
"Let's lead them away and circle back." Renji said quickly.
"I've gotta find Asuka." Mugen said as he sheathed his sword and dove down into the cloudy sea.
The White Berets shot a hail of arrows that left milky cloud trails behind them as they zipped passed Renji. He turned and dashed across the beach as the soldiers hopped onto the cloud trails and propelled along them as they chased after Renji.
"Are they gonna be okay?" Connie asked.
"They'll be fine." Zika said and smiled.
"Back to an earlier question, what are Dials?" Bulma asked, trying to change the subject.
"Oh, right. They're the shells of mysterious creatures." Buelle explained as he stood up slowly. "I have a few of them here." Buelle walked off and returned a few moments later holding an armful of seashells.
"Shells of mysterious creatures, huh? What are they used for?" Shuhei asked.
"These shells can store energy and matter." Buelle explained.
"How do you mean?" Yasui asked as he looked at the shells.
Buelle picked up a shell and handed it to Yasui. "Press the apex of the shell."
Yasui clicked the apex of the shell like a button and the shell lit up like a lamp. "Whoa, cool!" Yasui pressed the button again and the light turned off.
"That's a Lamp Dial." Buelle explained, "Different Dials have different uses and effects."
"Damn, that's awesome." Zika said and nodded as Hama wagged his tail.
"This one is a Flame Dial, it stores and releases flames. The Thunder Dial stores and releases electricity. The Heat Dial stores heat and hot air, you can use it to heat your home." Buelle excitedly explained as he showed off the Dials.
"Is there one that stores and releases the force of attacks?" Zika asked.
Buelle nodded and presented an orange Dial, "This is an Impact Dial. You can store an opponent's impact and release it against them."
"That's what that guy did with Mugen's attack." Yasui said and nodded.
"And that one guy from Heaven's Arena." Zika said loudly.
"Oh, right." Shuhei said and chuckled.
"Your Climate Baton is similar to these Dials." Yasui said suddenly.
"I was kind of thinking the same." Bulma said slowly.
"Climate Baton?" Connie questioned.
Bulma pulled her baton from her belt and handed it to Connie. She took it and flipped it around as she inspected it.
"What does your device do?" Buelle asked.
"It can conjure air and lightning." Bulma said simply.
"That's selling yourself short." Shuhei said and smiled.
"Yeah, Bulma, I've seen you create whole thunderstorms and tornadoes!" Yasui excitedly added.
"It sounds like what Dials can do." Buelle said and nodded.
Connie handed the baton back to Bulma and said, "It looks like an impressive piece of technology."
"Did you build that yourself?" Buelle asked.
Bulma shook her head and said, "I stole it from a laboratory when I ran away from home. I took a bunch of DynoCaps from my dad and the Flying Nimbus and the Climate Baton from Dr. Urahara."
"DynoCap?" Connie asked.
"Oh, right! I forgot to show them to you." Bulma pulled out a case of DynoCaps and presented them to Buelle and Connie.
Asuka sank down through the White White Sea, paralyzed by the surrounding water in the clouds. He hadn't considered that clouds would weaken him the same as the sea and tried thinking up a plan as he sank.
Clouds parted and Mugen came swimming down through the clouds after Asuka. Mugen grabbed Asuka's left foot and yanked him upward. The two of them shifted through the clouds and fell through the bottom of the Island Clouds!
Asuka gasped for air as Mugen shouted, "Fuck!"
A strange screeching neigh sounded off as a pink and white pegasus flew toward the falling duo. An older man in strange armor wielding a lance rode the pegasus and caught Mugen and Asuka before they plummeted any further.
The pegasus flew through the sky and descended into the White Sea. The man looked over his shoulder and asked, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah." Mugen said and nodded.
"Thanks for the assist." Asuka said and laughed.
The Pegasus landed on a patch of Island Cloud, Asuka and Mugen jumped off and watched as the man slowly dismounted his steed and patted it gently. Upon closer look at the Pegasus, it looked wrong. Weirdly shaped in odd places.
"What's up with your horse?" Asuka asked.
"Oh, Barnum here?" The old man asked and patted the animal on the head. "He's my trusty steed. A type of sky bird that ate a horse Zoan."
"There are Devil Fruits up here?" Mugen asked and raised an eyebrow.
"It's rare but some appear up here." The man said and nodded.
"Okay. Who are you?" Asuka asked and chuckled.
The man chuckled as well and said, "My name is God Farin. I used to rule Angel Island before Gin showed up and invaded the city."
Renji hurled chains and wrapped them around the top of a gate, he yanked himself over and tried to Moon Walk through the air. He fell to the cloudy ground and ran into Angel Island.
"As I thought, the air is too thin." Renji muttered as he looked over his shoulder and saw the White Berets leaping over the gate.
Renji turned to face the White Berets and hurled chains with rounded weights at the ends. He struck down a handful of soldiers as the others shot more arrows at him. Renji avoided the arrows and Shaved at the soldiers, he struck them down with his Power Pole and dashed down an alley.
Captain Fowler led his soldiers down the alley and after Renji. They burst out into the market square of Angel Island and Renji found himself surrounded by White Berets and sky citizens. Renji looked around the square and twirled his staff slowly.
"You're under arrest, Blue Sea dweller." Captain Fowler said, a stupid grin on his face.
A small explosion erupted in the square and ten figures flew at the soldiers on hoverboards. The people on the hoverboards had the same wings as the other Angel Islanders, but their skin and hair were darker.
The White Berets shot a hail of arrows at the attackers as they blasted beams of flames and lighting around the market square.
"Shandians!" People screamed as they fled the scene.
The White Berets and Shandians clashed in the square as eruptions and shouts echoed around. Renji sprang forward and slammed his elongated staff into a group of soldiers.
Captain Fowler skipped at Renji and blasted a wave of flames from a Flame Dial. A tall man with dark red hair zoomed up on his hoverboard and blasted a Water Dial to extinguish the flames! The man grabbed Renji and zoomed off as the Shandians retreated from Angel Island.
Renji gripped the man's shoulder as they sped across the clouds in the direction of Upper Yard. "Who the hell are you?"
"Calgara." The man said and grinned. "You were fighting the soldiers. And you don't have wings. You're one of the ones from the Blue Sea that the elder spoke of."
"Um, okay. Where are you taking me?" Renji asked.
"To see God. The True God!"
God Gin sat on a cushioned throne surrounded by seven half naked women. Gin had wild red hair that resembled a lion's mane. He had a small horn poking out of his forehead and large wings that pointed downward. He only wore baggy white pants and a red sash around his torso.
Gin bit into an apple and chewed it happily, "Trouble in town?" He asked.
"Yes, sir." Saishi said and nodded slowly. Saishi was a large man with curly blue hair wearing a brown robe. He also had a pair of large downward facing wings. "Captain Fowler said it was pirates from the Blue Sea."
"Oh?" Gin finished his apple and tossed the core behind him. "Monkeys from the Blue Sea. Most of them are greedy enough to accept my offer."
"Not these ones it seems." Saishi said quietly.
Gin stared at Saishi and said, "Indeed. The invasion is set for tomorrow. I have no time for insects. Gather the Four Priests, tell them to move all of our forces into Upper Yard by the morning."
"Of course, sir. And what of the Skypieans in Angel Island?" Saishi asked.
Gin shrugged and said, "Their will is shattered and fighters are gone. I'll correct them once Upper Yard is mine." Gin smiled and cracked his neck.
Saishi nodded and walked away quickly.
"What'll you do when you rule all of Skypiea, God Gin?" One of the women asked.
"I'll rule all of the sky in due time. Upper yard is a special place and holds many secrets." Gin answered.
"What do you mean?" Another woman asked.
"The origin of Dragon Balls and how to find them. I can learn them both on that chunk of Vearth…" Gin explained and smiled.
