Birthday Surprises
When they'd managed to find some time for themselves, just before Nana's birthday celebration, Toshinori found himself settling back in his chair to rest for the first time since all of this had started. He didn't know just what it was that Shigaraki-san had planned, but knowing the man it was clearly going to be something amusing. When Nana came into the room, Toshinori smiled and waved for her to sit down next to him.
"Happy Birthday, mom," he said, smiling as he stood up to hug Nana as tightly as he could, before the two of them sat back down again.
"So, have you managed to find out what he's planning to do this time?" Nana asked, settling herself down in the chair next to him – one down from the chair that Shigaraki-san had set up for himself, in fact – with the air of exasperation that seemed to show up whenever they gave Shigaraki-san the time to do…
Well, anything, really.
Before Toshinori could say anything more, the sight of a giant cake rolling into the room – rolling on its own, as though it was powered by some kind of an engine, or else Shigaraki-san had hidden himself somewhere and was directing it with the telekinetic Quirks he'd collected – prompted Nana to laugh ruefully.
"Well, I guess that's a clue," Nana said, laughing even as she palmed her face.
"Yeah, I guess we know Dad was up to something," he said, laughing as the cake – looking like it was covered in chocolate frosting, and seeming as though it'd be about waist-high on him if he'd still been standing up – rolled to a neat stop, right in front of Nana.
The giant cake gave just the slightest quiver, almost as though it had been waiting for the pair of them to take notice of it, before it erupted into a shower of cake bits, and the laughing form of Shigaraki-san.
"Dad!" he exclaimed, laughing as he batted away the flying bits of confection that had almost been close enough to splatter against his face.
Nana's cheerful laughter drew his attention, and Toshinori turned just in time to see Nana fall over sideways, almost rolling with laughter to the point where she fell out of her seat entirely. Grinning, even as he reached out to steady Nana-sensei as she tried to regain her composure and sit back up again, Toshinori couldn't quite keep himself from laughing, either. Steadying Nana-sensei as she stood up, wiping tears from her eyes and still laughing softly, Toshinori grinned as he turned to where Shigaraki-san was standing.
He'd climbed out of the cake – Toshinori couldn't stop himself from laughing, thinking about that – while Toshinori had been helping Nana-sensei back to her feet, and now the three of them all faced each other in front of the chairs that had been set up for all of them.
"Hisashi Shigaraki, you wonderful, impossible man," Nana-sensei said, once she'd managed to regain her composure and catch her breath, though she was still chuckling a bit.
Toshinori was still laughing, himself.
