Birds of a Feather
When they'd arrived on I-Island, the first thing that Chojuuro had found himself faced with was what seemed to be a welcoming committee entirely composed of eggheads. Briefly wondering just what in the hell he'd gotten into when he, Slice, Mummy, and Nine had all come to this place, Chojuuro folded his arms and trooped out after them. As the one who looked out for the rest of their small group, unofficially appointed as any of them were, Chojuuro was determined to be the first to face whoever it was that they were going to meet.
Whatever was going to happen to them on this island, Chojuuro was going to be the one to face it first.
Keeping pace with Nine as he and the man who had saved him from the people who had been attacking him in the street that day, Chojuuro narrowed his eyes as he caught sight of the weedy-looking, mousey brown-haired guy who seemed to be the leader of all the scientists in the room they were all heading into.
"Ah, good morning!" the weedy guy said, smiling widely as he hurried over to shake each one of their hands in turn. "Toshi told me that none of you really had a place to stay, and since you didn't really seem to fit in back in Japan, it wasn't that much trouble to invite you all here."
"I'll bet," he said, folding his arms and wishing for a long moment that he'd been able to bring one of his cigars; none of the egg-heads had seemed impressed with the idea, however, and so he'd left them back in the hotel where they'd been set up.
Still, seeing all of the people with Heteromorphic Quirks, all of them walking around freely with no one trying to hurt them, attack them, or force them out of society the way people had tried to do to him, back when he'd been trying to survive in Japan had been pleasing. It did give this new guy they were all speaking to at least some credibility as someone he'd be able to trust. Someone he could allow to shelter his friends.
"Let's start getting you all settled in," the weedy guy said, making his way over to their group, waving for them to follow him as he left the laboratory with all of its scientists behind. "We've set up housing for all of you, and some of my friends volunteered to help you with moving and getting yourselves situated."
"That's nice," he said, narrowing his eyes; he still didn't know if he could really trust the guy.
When they'd all come to the houses that's been set out for them, Chojuuro couldn't help but feel a little better about things. All of the buildings were larger than any of the places he'd been able to stay – with the obvious exception of the warehouses he'd been forced to hole up in when he'd been running from the police – and a hell of a lot nicer, too. So, that was at least one point in the weedy guy's favor.
"So, you guys want the five dollar tour, or do you guys want to go pick up some furniture so you can start getting settled in?"
Turning to look at the rest of his people, Chojuuro chewed his cigar as they all shared a look. "We'll split up," he said, turning back to the guy who'd either volunteered or been told to go with them.
He had the same kind of heteromorphic-type Quirk Chojuuro had grown up with, though he looked more like some kind of a white bird with a tall, feathery crest that seemed to respond to his moods or something. The fact that the weedy guy had sent him of all people to help them was yet another point in his favor, at least. It was starting to look like all of them were going to be able to settle down here, at least for awhile.
No telling how long they'd be welcome, unless the weedy guy really was the leader of the people on this weird island.
"So, can you fly with those?" he asked, echoing the first question that the weedy guy had asked him, when he'd shown the man the second form that he'd been able to use to protect himself and his people more than a few times, when he'd been pushed.
The man with the heteromorphic-type Quirk laughed softly. "Heard about that. If there's one thing you can count on Dave for, it's making a fuss about anyone who he thinks should be able to fly, but can't."
"Is that why he offered me the jetpack?" he asked, chuckling softly as he and his fellow heteromorph – he was really going to have to learn the guy's name, since it looked like the pair of them were going to be spending more time together than he'd been expecting at first – joined up with Kiruka and headed out for a day of shopping.
"Yeah, pretty much."
"I never caught your name," he admitted, chewing on his cigar but deciding not to light up just yet; he could indulge himself later, once he and his people were all actually settled in. "Mind telling me?"
The guy's crest popped up, before settling back down against his head and neck. "You must have been thinking really deeply about that jetpack Dave wanted to give you," he said, laughing lightly. "Name's Avion Skye," the man, Avion, said as the three of them continued on their way again.
"Avion," he said, nodding and grinning slightly.
Time would tell how they were all going to ultimately settle in on this weird island, but this did at least seem like a good start.
