Chapter Two
CalSci…
One hour later…
Larry headed to Charlie's office, knowing that his young friend didn't have any classes at the time and he needed to tell him about what happened with the man and to call Don to see what his options are in this situation. Larry was still angry that the man that he once called a friend would do something like this and he didn't know for certain what he himself could do and why he was involved with gambling again.
He was relieved when he saw Charlie in the office looking over his own paperwork, as that meant he could get this whole thing over with sooner.
"Charles? I have a problem that I need to discuss with you." Larry finally said after waiting a few moments for Charlie to notice him.
"What's the matter Larry?" Charlie asked, concerned about the almost scared look on his old friend.
"A man had come by my classroom to inform me that my "old friend" Leonard Philbrook had started gambling once again and made a deal to get himself out of some trouble and that some friends and myself could potentially pay the price for the deal." Larry said quickly, almost losing his breath by the end.
This set off alarm bells in Charlie's head, as he knew about Larry's past with gambling and what Leonard had several college students do to try to prove their theory, which got a couple of them killed but Leonard got off the hook and went back to teaching at a high school. Charlie had never really talked about the case with Larry much in the following years, and he knew it was painful for his friend and mentor.
"I need to call your brother, Charles, as I need to know what my options are in a case like this." Larry said with desperation coming in his tone.
"We'll call and find out but I think he is going to want to take you into protection, just in case, is what I think he would do but we have to talk to him first." Charlie said as he went to speed dial for his brother's number, as he didn't know if Don was still at the office or not.
After a couple rings, Don answered, and started to ask what his brother needed when Charlie interrupted him to tell Don about Larry's situation and asked what they should do about it.
Don told them to wait for him and Colby, as they were coming down there to get them and to wait in his office while they were on their way. Don also told them to check with security and see if they got the guy on camera.
"Just stay where you are Charlie, just in case the man comes back to make good on his threats and we will make sure you are okay." Don instructed
"Don't worry Don, we will stay where we are and we'll talk to security before you get here." Charlie assured his brother, knowing it would be pointless to argue with Don when his brother is in big brother mode.
"We will be there in a few minutes, Charlie, don't worry." Don said before he and Charlie said goodbye and the line went dead.
"Don's on his way with Colby, Larry, it'll be okay, we'll figure this out." Charlie said to his old friend, as Larry was growing more and more nervous by the minute.
"I hope you're right, Charles, as I dread the thought of those people coming after us due to mere gambling debts." Larry answered, trying to think what the casino people could do to them and what Leonard Philbrook was up to.
Same time…
FBI…
"Colby! I need you to come to Calsci with me right now!" Don shouted to the other agent.
"What's going on?" Colby asked, confused as to why his former boss was worried that he would act this way.
"Charlie called, saying that a man came to threaten Larry and that Leonard Philbrook made a deal that could cause problems for everyone involved." Don said in a quick summary and Colby was now almost just as worried as Don as he went down the elevator, hoping it was just something that was just to scare Larry but they knew it was not the case and they needed to get there as soon as possible.
As Don was calling AD Wright about the situation, Colby wondered what those people would do if they made good on their threats.
They would not have to wait for long to find out.
