Chapter Seven
A few moments earlier…
Outside the office…
Don and Megan took cover before the two men started firing, with Don yelling at students and faculty to take a run for it, which they were already in the process of doing and the shooters weren't paying attention to the onlookers.
Both of the agents waited for the right moment to take a shot and when Don heard a gun cocking, he cautiously took a look to make sure he had a shot, which he saw an opportunity to take a shot at one of them.
As Don took the shot at one of the men, Jacks, Rick also noticed the agent and also took a shot at him at the same time. Megan saw too late but she managed to take a shot at Rick after he started firing but Don was already hit.
Megan waited for several seconds to see if either of the shooters were going to move again and, when neither of them did, she ran to Don's side, whose hand was over the shoulder wound thanks to the gun shot from Jacks.
"Don! Are you all right?" Megan asked, worried about her friend.
"I'm okay, what about those two?" Don answered, being concerned that the two gunmen could still be a threat.
Megan silently cursed herself for not checking first but Don gently patted her arm, understanding her actions, which she appreciated and went to go check the men.
Jacks was dead due to being shot in the head while Rick was alive with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, similar to Don, and was clearly angry with how things were going.
"Don't… move." Megan ordered as she pointed her gun at the man, who merely just grunted in pain and was clearly not going anywhere for awhile while she took out her phone to call in the situation.
Inside the office…
All three of the men were terrified, as they had heard Megan talking to Don and Charlie knew that his older brother was injured, though it sounded like it wasn't life threatening but Charlie was still desperate to see his brother.
'I need to see for myself that he's okay.'
They then heard a knock on the door, with Megan's voice saying that they needed to stay where they were and Don was all right.
"Just hang a few moments until help comes and I can bring you guys out." She said as she turned her attention back to the wounded shooter and hoped that he wouldn't try to escape custody.
As sirens can be heard from a distance, Megan wondered about who sent these men and how they were connected to Larry and Leonard Philbrick and if Philbrick is more involved than any of them had previously thought.
