Chapter 7: On their way
Fox was leaning on the doorway of his room as he sighed as he watched Krystal run her hand through Naruto's hair as she sat on her knees with Naruto's head on her lap. He wished he could do something more for them but the only thing he could do at the moment was keep the Great Fox on course. Seeing that Krystal had things handled, he chose to leave them be and check on the status of the crew. He walked down the hall towards the command center as he thought about how this whole thing had just spun so chaotically. For some reason, with Naruto in such a state, everything seemed so… dull now. Sure the ship is still the same but with his son out of commission, it just seemed less impressive. "I gotta stop thinking like that. Once we get to Krystal's home, we will find a way to get him back and everything will go back to the way they were."
"I don't think I would want things to go back to the way they were."
Fox looked to his left to see Falco coming out of another hallway. "What do you mean?"
Falco joined Fox on his way to the Command Center as he elaborated. "When you say 'back to the way things were', I imagine the time before we picked up the runt. Right, now, things are the way they used to be. Just us, heading to the next job or lazing about."
The two then became silent for another minute till fox spoke.
"...seems boring."
"I'll say. We got so used to him running around that now that it's quiet, it just doesn't feel like home anymore."
Fox smirked at Falco as he gave a gentle shive. "Careful, if Naruto ever learns that you miss him, he will never leave you alone."
Falco grimaced at that. "Keep that to yourself."
The two chuckled as they entered the Command center. They saw that Peppy was at his desk, fiddling with something.
Falco was the one to speak to the old-timer as Fox moved to the couch. "Hey, old-timer, got any information on the planet we're heading to?"
Peppy looked up to Falco before going back to his computer. "No, I've only been able to pull some old records of the planet but there isn't anything significant. And with how it had disappeared for all this time, there is no way we can get information on it."
Falco sighed as he crossed his wings. "Great, going in with no information is just how a surprise mission should go. Anyway, how long is it going to take?"
Peppy pressed a few keys on his computer before answering. "Not sure. Krystal has given us a direction but without an actual designated point, there is no way of knowing."
"Just great." Fox spoke up from the couch as he was listening in on the conversation. He ran his hand over his face as his mind went straight to Naruto. "Naruto is still out and we don't know if he will wake up during our trip there."
The two other members of the team looked at each other as they figured that he was worried about if Naruto would make it during the trip.
Peppy sighed as he got up from his desk and moved over to Fox. standing in front of his sitting position. He placed his hand on Fox's shoulder and spoke. "I know you're worried, Fox, but we are already pushing the old ship as fast as it can go. If we need to, we can infuse some vital fluids into him so that he can make the journey since he can't eat or drink anything at the moment. Don't worry, Fox, we will get there and fix him up."
Fox sighed as Peppy pegged one of his worries. Naruto was unresponsive and hadn't eaten anything since they left Corneria. And with how much Naruto eats normally, it was a little jarring.
Peppy smiled as he saw some of Fox's tension leave him. "I'd suggest that tomorrow we move him into the medical bay so that Rob can keep an eye on his vitals."
Fox nodded as he knew it would be the best thing to do.
Falco stretched his wings in the air and spoke. "Well, I'm gonna head to the hangar. Gonna mess around with the Arwing to see if I can amp her up."
Peppy and Fox nodded as the hare moved over to his desk. "Well, tell Slippy that he should check the Landmaster. I don't know what kinda mess we might find on Krystal's planet but you can never be too prepared."
"You shoulda told me before I left my room."
Everyone looked to the door to see Slippy walking in with his goggles over his eyes.
Peppy looked confused at that before he looked at his computer. "Weren't you in the Hangar ten minutes ago?"
Slippy tilted his head as he moved his goggles. "No, I've been in my room tinkering with some new stuff I came up with."
Peppy pressed the button for the intercom and called out. "Rob, are you in the hangar?"
{Negative. Remaining in the medical Bay in case Naruto is in need of help.}
Peppy's confused look become serious as he looked at the team. "There's been movement in the Hanger bay for the last thirty minutes."
The team grew serious as they moved to the side of the command center and pressed a key panel that unlocked a hidden panel that revealed some small blasters. They didn't use this panel much but it's there in case of emergencies.
Fox moved to the comms and used a PA system to speak to the residential area. "Krystal, we have intruders on the Great Fox. I'm locking down the ship so the door is going to be locked. Stay there and wait for the lockdown to be lifted. I'll see you when we get whoever is on board." He let go of the button before inputting the commands for the lockdown. He knew that Krystal would go with what he said, especially since their son is vulnerable right now. He ran towards the others that waited for him by the door.
The team then made their way towards the hanger bay.
They had intruders to deal with and the mission they were on was too important to allow any problems.
The four made it to the door that led to the bay with Falco and Fox pointing their blasters at the door with Slippy and Peppy standing at the sides of the doorframe.
Fox looked to Peppy. "Open the door, and cut the lights."
Peppy nodded as he pressed the code into the door panel which shut the lights and then opened the door.
The team moved into the hangar as their eyes roamed over the room for any sign of movement. They kept their flashlights off so as to not tip the intruders off.
Peppy gave a silent grunt as he narrowed his eyes to try and see anything. He whispered out. "Can barely see anything in here."
Slippy whispered back. "Haven't made the night vision goggles yet. Only have the one on the Arwing's canopy overlay."
Fox looked to the two and whispered out an order. "We can worry about that later. Peppy, you and Slippy head left while Falco and I take the right."
Peppy nodded as they split off.
As the two teams wandered through the hangar with their blasters at the ready, they couldn't help but think that it was unnerving.
The only light that was in the large room was some of the small emergency lights on the pathway that didn't light up enough, and some secondary lights that each Arwing had on the tips of the wings and G-diffusers. There was also the strobe light that was giving the room a very dark tint of blue. Not to mention the occasional metal creaking that was heard overhead.
Falco and Fox were looking around the foremost Arwing with Fox looking underneath it as it hung by its holders and Falco jumping on top of it.
"Hey, Fox!"
Fox moved from underneath the Arwing after hearing Falco's whispered shout to and looked up to see him pointing in a direction ahead of the Arwings.
"Saw movement over by the crates on the lower level."
"And Peppy and Slippy are on the other side of the hangar." Fox pointed his blaster in the direction with Falco landing next to him and doing the same. The two moved towards the stairs that led to the lower levels while maintaining eye contact with the crates. Once the two were closing in, he looked to Falco and whispered. "Move around to behind them. Make sure whoever it is doesn't get a chance to escape."
Nodding, Falco crouched and moved to circle around the crates.
Fox waited for a second before closing in on the crates. As he got closer, he could hear some shuffling happening behind a few of them. He crouched behind one as his ears flicked at the sound of voices.
"...tch it."
"How can I? It's too dark to see."
"Why'd the lights go off anyway?!"
"We should have brought some lights or something."
"Well, we didn't really have much time to bring stuff."
Fox tensed up as he shifted his feet. After a second, he jumped on top of the crate he was hiding behind and pointed his blaster at where the voices were coming from. He hit the switch for the light on top of the blaster as his finger went to the trigger. "Hold it!"
"WAAAH!"
Falco jumped on top of two stacked crates and did the same.
Fox's angered look turned into one of befuddlement. "What the? Fay, Miyu, Olivia?! What are you three doing here?"
The three girls were covering their faces with their arms as the light had blinded them
Fox and Falco detached the mini lights on their blasters before lowering the weapons. They were glad that the kids didn't see that they were pointing their blasters at them.
Falco jumped to stand next to Fox. "Well, this isn't what I expected."
The sound of rapid footsteps was heard and the two looked behind them to see Peppy and Slippy running up to them.
Fox refocused on the girls and crossed his arms as he asked. "Mind telling me what the three of you are doing here and how you got on the ship?"
The three girls looked at each other before sheepishly looking up at the stern look the adults were giving them.
The girls were now sitting in the mess hall with most of the Star Fox team surrounding them.
Peppy, being the eldest of the team, started the questioning. "Well, mind telling us why you're here?"
Fay rubbed her arm as she looked anywhere but at the adults. "Well… um…" after her eyes caught sight of the stern look on the hare's face, she broke. "We're here because something is wrong with Naruto and we wanna help him!"
Miyu looked at Fay as if she was betrayed. "Fay! You can't tell them what we are really here for!"
Olivia rubbed her muzzle as she let out a sigh. "It's not like we could come up with anything else. Besides, it is why we came."
Miyu glared at Olivia. "Yeah, but we don't need to tell them that we stowed away in the cargo bay after I heard them talking about taking Naruto somewhere to get him fixed!"
Fay looked at Miyu with a sheepish smile. "Miyu….you just told them."
Miyu's eyes went wide before she looked at the adults to see that they had heard her. "Aw, man!"
The team wasn't surprised about this since the three of them were Naruto's closest friends.
Falco, though, was curious. "How did you get onboard anyway?"
This time, the three clamped their mouths shut as they didn't want to let out how they got on the ship. But being three young preteens under the scrutiny of a professional mercenary team, they weren't doing so well.
Olivia was the first to crack this time as she blurted out. "We used a panel that can be found on the side of the cargo bay!"
The other two looked at her this time in betrayal.
Peppy raised an eyebrow as he asked. "And how did you know about that panel? It's a small one used only to drop off small cargo." Not receiving an answer, he glared at the three. "It would be best if you told us now."
Miyu groaned as she threw her head back. "Naruto showed us one day when we were playing."
The team let out a defeated sigh as they should have known that Naruto would know that. He had a habit of finding things he shouldn't. Though it wasn't really forbidden for him to know.
Fox rubbed between his eyes as he mumbled. "Even when not around he still causes trouble." he smiled good-naturedly when Falco shoulder-bumped him. His smile dropped though when somthing came to mind. "Wait. we've been traveling for more than a day by now. Where do you're parents think you are?"
In unison, the three girls pointed to another of the girls in the group. "AT HER PLACE."
The team looked astounded that the three girls pointing at each other, telling them that none of the parents knew that their daughters were right now on a ship, heading to a long-lost planet, which could be dangerous, and all because they were worried for their friend.
Fox let out a deep sigh. "Great, we're already a day into our journey and if we go back, we lose even more time. I don't know how Naruto is going to handle this."
Peppy looked to the team leader and reprimanded him. "We can't just do nothing about this."
"I know that. I just….." he let out a defeated sigh. "I just want to get my son back."
Falco tapped his own arm in thought before asking. "Are our communications still able to reach Corneria?"
Peppy rubbed his chin. "They should be. We might need to boost the signal a bit but we can reach the planet from here."
Falco waved his wing to the three girls. "Then we should tell their parents where they really are. And explain the situation to them."
Fox nodded. "It's the best we can do. And if anything, they will have to remain on the ship." He turned to give the girls a stern look. "Got it?"
They had never seen the leader of the Star Fox team so stern with anyone. But they remembered stories about times when Naruto did something to anger the fox. Naruto said he wasn't scary but the boy never liked to disappoint his father. The three nodded as they spoke again in unison. "Yes, sir."
Fox nodded before he turned around and made his way to the stairs. "Come on, you three. Best get this done now."
Everyone followed Fox to the stairs, using their flashlights to light the way
The three grew nervous at each step they took as they were not looking forward to telling their parents.
{YOU THREE ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!}
{NONE OF YOU ARE GOING TO EVER LEAVING YOUR ROOMS TILL YOUR FUR BECOMES WHITE!}
{HOW DARE YOU LIE TO US AND SNEAK ONTO THE GREAT FOX!}
Falco grimaced as he stood on the other side of the closed door, listening to the shouting of the three mothers ripping the girls a new one. "I don't envy them."
Slippy was standing next to him as he didn't want to be in the middle of the shouting match. "How long has it been?"
Falco tapped onto his headgear and saw the scouter over his right eye give him the time. "Thirty minutes. I think they are just repeating themselves at this point since this is like the third time they said the same thing."
Slipp looked at the door and nodded. "You think Fox and Peppy can calm them down?"
"I don't think anything will calm them down. But as our leader, Fox has to plead to them that we can't really turn back now. And Peppy is there to make sure that things are done peacefully."
{I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT, FOX!}
"Though, I don't think it's going that well."
Back inside the room, the three girls were curled up in their seats as their mothers were on the screen and shouting at them for their dumb decision.
Fox and Peppy were standing behind them as they waited for the three women to finish their reprimanding. And both of them were surprised that it lasted this long.
Fox noticed that the three women were now breathing heavily as they looked to have released all of their worry and anger, and this was his chance. "Now, I know that you would want them to be back on Corneria as soon as possible but there is an issue that I need to bring up with you." he almost flinched at the sharp eyes turning to him. He looked to Fay's mother, an older cocker spaniel, and spoke. "Mrs. Spanial…" seeing her narrow his eyes at him, he continued. "Do you remember when you found out that Naruto was hospitalized a few days ago?" Seeing her nod, he chose to elaborate on the reason. "Well, it turns out that there is a specified reason he ended up like that. Something that requires us to travel to a planet that was long thought lost. We also have to bring Naruto with us in order for him to get better. The main problem is that we don't know the full condition Naruto is in, which is why we are rushing to make it to the planet as fast as possible." He let out a sigh as this was the tricky part. "And we are already a day into our voyage…"
{Stop right there, Fox.}
Fox paused in his plea as Miyu's mother, an older lynx, interrupted him.
She sighed as she crossed her arms. {It doesn't take a genius to get that you are asking us if you can keep going without bringing our daughters back.}
Fox flinched at the tone she gave him.
The woman took a deep breath to calm her nerves, and the other two did the same. After her scowl lowered, she looked Fox dead in the eye. {I understand the need to help your son, and I am sure that you understand our desire to keep our daughters safe.}
Fox nodded as he would be just as he and Krystal would be just as worried if Naruto went off without telling them.
{Then you must understand, how we each see this. We know that you are not at fault for this but we are not happy about this.}
It was Olivia's mother's turn to give her opinion on this. {so, if anything happens to them, then Naruto inst the only one that is going to need a hospital room.}
Fox's ears folded back as the dark tone the woman took was intimidating. "Understood."
The three women nodded before looking back at their daughters, which caused the three to shrink even more.
{Now, Miyu, you are to listen to everything they say and do not get into any trouble. Am I understood?}
"Yes, mama."
{Fey, the same is to be said to you. Listen to them when they tell you to do something.}
"Ok, mom."
{Olivia….. Be careful out there.}
{I will, mother.}
The three nodded at their daughters' answer but after a second of smiling, they gained dark looks and warned them at the same time.
{AND ONCE YOU'RE BACK, YOU'RE ALL GROUNDED!} The screen went black as the call was ended.
Peppy, who had stayed silent till now, sighed as he rubbed his chin. "I suppose that was the best outcome we could hope to get."
Fox shook his head in exasperation. "I still don't think we should have had to do something like this." He looked at the three girls. "And you really shouldn't have snuck onto the ship. You worried your parents much more than you should have. I get that Naruto is your friend but you should have trusted us to make sure that he would come back alright."
"Sorry."
Fox felt bad for making them feel like they did something wrong since they were just worried for his son. "Alright, for now, we have to set you up in the guest room…..and I will show you where Naruto is after I let the rest of the team know.
"You shouldn't bother since we were eavesdropping on the whole thing."
Fox looked to the door to see Slippy and Falco coming in with the latter being the one who spoke. "Yeah, I figured you would but Krystal needs to be told that the trip won't be postponed."
"Can we see Naruto now?"
Falco chuckled at how Miyu can be so pushy, especially with her friends.
Peppy shook his head before speaking up. "We will show you where he is in a bit but do not overdo it. He is still unconscious and you shouldn't try and wake him up since Krystal is watching over him."
Fay nodded as she brought Miyu and Olivia into a group hug. "We'll be good."
The collective thought among the adults was: 'then why did you three sneak in here?'
Peppy led the three girls towards the room they would be staying in as the rest of the team went back to do their own thing, while Fox went back to his room.
Once Fox made it back, she saw Krystal still sitting on her bed with Naruto's head on her lap. "Well, the three girls will be staying with us as we continue to head there."
Krystal didn't look up from watching Naruto's peaceful look. "I know. I could feel how the conversation went. I have to thank them when we get home."
Fox moved to sit at the edge and looked slightly over his right shoulder at them. "We all will….how is he?"
"...he is still as peaceful as ever. His mind is still and his emotions and serene. But I can still feel that he wants to help them. It's just like him to want to help."
Fox smiled as he turned his torso a bit and placed his hand on Naruto's head. "Sounds like him. And I'm sure that he would be happy to hear that his friends are here to support him."
Krystal smiled. "That is something that will always put a smile on his face." she placed her hand that she was using to run through his hair on top of Fox's. Let us hope that we arrive there soon."
Fox nodded. "Yeah."
End of chapter
I'm so sorry for the long wait but I had a bunch of other stories that came to mind and my focus went there.
Not to mention that I am also spending a lot of time drawing, as well as being in a Danny phantom binge recently. But at least I updated this. I will try and get more of this fic out as soon as I can.
This one was kinda short but it was because I'm cutting it short. It was supposed to be longer as I wanted to get into the planet's arrival but chose to add more scenes of them on the ship.
This gives me time to come up with the kind of civilization Krystal's home would be like.
I know that a lot of people don't like the idea of the tribal or forest-like home, as I got a few requests not to make it as such, however, the suggestion that it should be just like Corneria just seems too unbelievable.
Even if Krystal's attire might have come from Sauria, her staff alone depicts more of a magical type of community. Corneria is clear use of technology, from blasters to hover vehicles and other such modern commodities. Krystal's introduction, comfort in such revealing attire, and weapon/armor, only suggest old-style tribes. But I do think I will add more of an upgraded version of it. Maybe like Predators type but using magic instead of electricity (or whatever kind of energy they use on Corneria).
This shouldn't really be a thing that kills the fic since Krystal's home is just an arc, not where the whole story is going to take place in.
I plan on making a new cover art for this fic since my skills have improved a lot since I made the first one
Flames will be ignored.
