You are standing on what appears to be a deserted island, complete with palm trees, soft sand, and blue skies.

You recognize it as the paradisiacal Destiny Islands, your second home. Part of you is aware that this is a dream: you have been self-banished from this place. You have promised yourself not to set foot on these islands until you completely remembered that boy. But you are here now, staring out at the cerulean oceans like you used to. The breeze plays merrily with your shoulder-length scarlet hair.

As you wander around, you find that you are not alone. No, your friends are here: Riku, Selphie, Tidus, and Wakka. But wait – there is someone missing. Who is it? It had always been you and Riku.. and that boy, you unknowingly realize.

You enter the Secret Place, where you find chalk drawings of you and him, sharing a paopu. The fruit that intertwines destinies... You touch the crude drawings tentatively, almost nostalgically. His face is eerily smudged, unclear. An image – of him, perhaps? – flashes hopefully in your mind, and fades not a second later as if it were mere hallucination.

"Kairi–"

You spin around, trying to locate the source of the sound. Strange, you could almost swear you were alone when you entered...

The boy is standing in the shadows, his face shrouded in darkness. He turns away from you.

You move quickly over to where he is standing, touching him on the shoulder –

your hand goes right through it. As if the boy did not truly exist. You watch on in confused horror as he disintegrates into a million tiny pieces and vanishes.

You run out of the Secret Place and onto the sand. The others are no longer there, nowhere to be found.

Now you notice how the sand feels prickly beneath your bare feet; the palm trees sway tiredly in the lonely chilling wind; the sky is full of not fluffy white cumulus clouds, but miserable gray clumps looming ominously overhead. You lay on the sand despite its roughness and close your eyes.

Static plays a movie behind your eyelids.

And then nothing; a television set turned off.
