Hello, this my first fanfiction ever. I've always loved reading them so I'm taking my own spin on it. I don't know how far this story will go but due to the whole COVID situation, now is the perfect time to start or atleast attempt.
Please though feel free to critic me however you feel fit. You won't be hurting my feelings in any way and I'll appreciate you for being honest ;)
That being said I really do hope you enjoy nonetheless.

Chapter 1: Adam Alastair
Era
It was a bright and clear day in Era, the sounds of birds chirping and the overall cheerfulness of the residents made the town seem as if it was in complete harmony.
Era, a large town within the Kingdom of Fiore, built around a high, rocky mountain. The mountain rested the headquarters of the Magic Council, the highest form of authority in the magic world.
This Council rules all of the legal guilds scattered throughout Earthland, overseeing them and keeping them in check. Along with other responsibilities.
Currently a young man is on his very way to this headquarters himself being the bearer of good or bad news.
Era : Magic Station
"Attention all passengers." Can be heard over the loud speakers. A young man with his eyes focused on the book he was reading looks up as he listens to announcement. "We have arrived at our final destination Era."
As the ladies voice is being played he closes his book and looks out the window to see the town briefly before fully entering the station as the train begins to slow down.
While the train is about to come to a full stop he puts his book in a pouch on the right side of his body and stands from his seat grabbing his small bag from the overhead.
"Please watch your step as you exit the train, and have a good day." The lady says as the final announcement before the train completely stops and the doors open.
The young man steps out the train following the group of people also exiting the station. Once outside, he takes a deep breathe of fresh air looking around the town and his immediate surroundings.
"Well it was a good thing I opt'd for the morning train from Iris. If I didn't I might not have made it in time." He says out loud to himself as he begins to walk
"Though now I think I'm a bit too early..." He raises his left wrist looking at his watch to see the time which reads 10:52. "Yeah definitely too early." While walking the sees a little café in the distance, he pounders the thought to stop there to grab a quick bit. "I guess it wouldn't hurt."
He pushes the door the the café stepping inside, he noticed that inside is just as packed as the out door section. He walks towards the counter where the barista is located. "Good morning, welcome to Oracle Café. What can I get you?" The young lady says very energetically.
"Good morning." He says looking slightly up at the menu behind her. After a couple of seconds goes by he makes his request.
"Can I get an caramel macchiato iced and a sausage, cheddar, and egg sandwich." He says looking at her. "Ok... caramel macchiato... sandwich..." She says out loud to herself putting the order on the register.
"Would that be all?" She ask him. "Yeah that's all." He replies back to her. "And your name?" Asking another question for the young man. "Adam." He says to her.
"Ok that will be 2,100 jewel." She says to him as Adam reaches in his pocket and opens his wallet, he extends 4,000 jewel over to her.
"Here you go, and you can keep the change." Adam says as the barista smiles and finishes the transaction. "Thank you and I'll call your name when your order is ready." She says happily.
Adam nods as he goes to sit at an empty table while he waits he reaches in bag and grabs a communications lacrima before placing it on the table. "Cynthia Alastair." He says to the lacrima as the once clear lacrima becomes foggy. Though shortly after the image of a woman appears on the lacrima.
She has black curly wavy hair that goes a little past her shoulders with glasses. "Hello, Adam." She says looking at the screen.
"Hi mom, how you doing?" Adam asks his mother as she smiles.
This woman is Cynthia Alastair, in her younger days she was the Head of Fiore's 2nd Guardian Unit. A division tasked with domestic affairs of protection and security.
Currently the unit is in its 3rd Phase ran by a man named Ozymandias Menes.
"Fine thanks for asking, I'm guessing you reached Era already?" Cynthia asks her son to which he nods. "That's good, what time does your briefing start?"
"12 o'clock." Adam responds to her. "Though I am usually late, so it'll be quite a shock to them that I'm on time."
Cynthia laughs as the remark. "Yeah that's for sure, dad might think he's hallucinating if he sees you walk inside on time or even slightly early."
Adam also laughs at her joke knowing that she's not that far off from the truth. Once he stops laughing there is a brief moment of silence between the two before Adam asks a question.
"So how is dads condition? Has anything changed?" Adam days trying his hardest to hide the traces of sadness and concern in his voice but doesn't go unnoticed by his mother.
"Your fathers a tough cookie Adam, you know that better than anyone I'd imagine. Have some faith he'll be fine stop over working yourself about it." She responds slightly scolding him but just like her son traces of concern and sadness pour through her voice.
"Yeah..." Adam says lowly. Cynthia lets out a quick exhale before speaking. "But to answer your question, thanks to your magic he's feeling a bit better. Though it seems like he is still incredibly drowsy, but that's to be expected from the effects of the trap he went through."
"I swear that man is the biggest idiot I've ever met in my whole life!" Cynthia finishes putting her hands on her head borderline screaming in frustration.
Adam smiles at his mother's outburst. "Well to be fair you married the quote on quote idiot so not to be rude or anything but-" He starts before Cynthia cuts him off.
"Don't you even dare say it's my fault before I go and hunt you down boy." Cynthia says glaring at him with her face closer to the lacrima as Adam chuckles at his mothers reaction.
"Order for Adam!" The barista says loudly by the counter as Adam looks over in her direction seeing the bag in hand.
"Hey I gotta go now though, I'll call you later." Adam says as Cynthia regains her normal composer smiling. "Alright I love you, talk to you later."
"I love you too, bye." Adam says as he lacrima turns foggy as her face disappears before turning clear. In a rush he quickly puts the lacrima back in his back while standing up moving towards the counter.
"Thank you." He says grabbing the bag from the counter with his left hand and taking the drink with the right.
"Your welcome, have a nice day and come again." She says kindly as Adam walks out the café using his shoulders to open the door.
Once he leaves he begins walking towards the center of the town where the Magic Council headquarters is located.
He lets go of the drink he has in his hands but as it's about to land on the ground it hovers inches above it and moves slightly in front of him to his right. With his now free hand he opens the bag to his sandwich and takes a bite out of it.
His right hand opens agains as the macchiato he ordered goes directly into his hands as he drinks from the straw. He glances at his watch again and sees 11:19.
"Yeah definitely going back there again." Adam says clearly enjoying the food and drink.
Era : Magic Council Headquarters
Adam finally arrives to at the entrance to the Magic Council's Headquarters. He opens the door and is greeted to a desk where two Caecilians are working. "Hello, good afternoon. How may I help you?" One of them ask Adam who is still has his macchiato in hand.
"I'm hear for a task briefing with the Council for 12 o'clock."
Adam says looking at the clock behind them reading 11:48 as a tiny smirk comes on his face before taking another sip of his drink. "Please state you're name."
"Adam Alastair, Vice Captain of the Guardian Unit."
Adam as you are now aware is the Vice Captain of the Guardian Unit. He's currently has a briefing with the council over a special task he was assigned to from the council by Captain Ozymandias Menes.
The employee looks at him surprised and slightly flustered as Adam looks at him slightly confused. 'Did they reschedule or something without me noticing.'
"I'm so sorry Captain Alastair, please forgive the fact I didn't recognize you from the moment you entered. I never expected you to come dressed like that-." He starts before cutting himself off.
"-I mean not saying that you're dressed any particular way I just..." He says as he keeps talking but at this point Adam has tuned him out and can only think. 'Oh'
"Hey if you don't mind me asking what's your name?" Adam asks him looking at the employee as he takes a deep breath before responding.
"Cane." He responds still slightly nervous. Adam extends his hands over the desk, Cane looks at his hand before slowly extending his own as they shake hands.
"Nice to meet you Cane, it's alright I'm not a celebrity or anything I wouldn't expect you to recognize me. Now about the meeting." Adam says before taking another sip of the macchiato as it's now empty which leaves a visible disappointed strain on his face.
"Ughh yeah..." He responds before using a lacrima. "Yeah they're currently waiting for you in the Conference Hall." Cane says as Adam nods.
"Thanks Cane see you around sometime." He says waving while walking towards the scanner to enter the building as runes visibly disappear from in front of it as he's able to walk through it no problem entering the building.
"Likewise Captain Alastair!" Cane says as he smiles and turns to his co-worker manning the desk with him. "You see that he knows me on a first name basis, we're basically best friends now." He says gloating his new found imaginary status to Adam.
Meanwhile Adam is currently making his way to the Conference Hall as he throws his empty drink in the garbage. He makes his way to central stairs walking up to towards the elevators.
Once at the elevator he presses the button waiting for it arrive to take him to the 8th floor. "Wonder why I was asked to come in person to report this, Oz could have definitely given them the report himself."
A ding can be heard as the doors open as Adam steps inside the Elevator and presses the 8th floor as the doors close and he starts to ascend up.
"Well regardless the reason I guess it's good excuse to visit." Adam says to himself pondering on the idea of what could happen.
Era : Magic Council Headquarters : Conference Hall
The members of the Council are waiting sitting around a table with the council's insignia on it. Though they are in more of a terrace than a hall so to say.
"So how long do you suspect he'll take this time?" Siegrain asks the fellow council members. Belno rolls her eyes. "Please lets hope he makes it within the hour."
"To think that boy is one of the few people in all the land who could even think about being late to a meeting with us." Gran Doma says. "Don't be impatient, the hand just struck 12 o'clock." Yajima says to the others.
"It's not like his track record is anything to make us have faith we won't be waiting for hours." Ultear says sighing.
Org is silent during all the discussion between the other members. "Well it's your lucky day isn't it, next time I'll be more than gladly late if this is what I have to hear from down the hall."
All of the members turn to see Adam enter the room. "Clearly this must be some trickery taking place here, my grandson is never early let alone on time to anything." Org says.
Councilman Org is the grandfather to Adam Alastair and the father to Cynthia Alastair both high ranking Rune Knights.
Adam sighs as he goes to sit at the empty seat waiting for him, though on his way to his seat he passes Org and lightly hits him on his head. "Did that feel like trickery bag-a-bones." He says before going to sit in between Belno and Michello.
"Well since you're here, on time at that too." Gran Doma begins coughing in between sentences. "How did you manage?"
Adam takes a deep breath in mentally playing back the mission he was sent on in his head. "Well you were definitely correct from your information, I noticed a lot of heavy dark magic the moment I stepped foot in Minstrel. It might as well have renamed itself into dark guild capital."
"So what happened?" Leiji asks him as the fellow members are very curious how this special task went.
"Well at first to the capital, Atlas. There I found out the hierarchy of the Dark Guilds there, they seem to have a very similar structure to the Balam Alliance here in Fiore. But instead of three guilds there are five Guilds at the top that control the rest." Adam says explaining to them.
"Trinity Rose, Necrosis, The Blue Knight Templar, Hidden Oasis, and Outer Heaven. Those guilds are the five big dogs calling the shots from the other. Though unlike ours little band of outlaws they have a lot more dark guilds, though I can attest they are considerably lacking in quality and leaning more towards quantity." Adam finishes as the council members absorb the information being given to them.
"Did anything else happen? Please do tell." Ultear asks very interested with a smile on her face. "Well I managed to make a frenemy if you would inside Outer Heaven, though I didn't get much out of him though." Adam says slightly leaning back in his chair.
"So what is your initial impression of them?" Org asks seriously as the two relatives lock eyes with each other. "I can say with certainty, if we were to try and invade we would be decimated in an instant. Minstrel Magic Council Branch is aware and I'm fairly sure that there are some if not all of them working with atleast one of the five guilds I named." Adam says seriously crossing his arms closing his eyes.
"The moment we would request a foreign suspicions activity notice, there's little doubt in my mind by the time we got there they would be prepared for however many Units and Armies we send at them." Adam finishes as everyone in the room is quiet processing yet again the information given to them.
"Well do you suspect they could be attacking or moving out to other kingdoms if they have the mass population of theirs under its thumb?" Michello ask him.
Adam actually pauses to think about the question. "Potentially." He says plainly. "While they are the top five Dark Guilds in their Kingdom, they don't move as a unit they still go at one another for the number one spot which is currently held by the Templar. Though I wouldn't be surprised if one or even two out of the five showed their faces in Fiore."
"If I was a dark guild and wanted to get the number one spot I'd branch out to a kingdom and get with good standings with the other Dark Guilds and get them under my wing to expand. But if I see one of the top five in this area I'd move and go somewhere else to not waste time." Adam says as they all nod agreeing with his logic.
"Though I do apologize that this was all I could manage for the week I was there." He says. "I beg to differ any information is better than no information." Siegrain says.
"Yes, prior to your exposition all we had to go off of was mere rumors and hunches." Gran Doma replies. "We're one step closer to getting the situation and should inform the surrounding kingdoms councils of what we've learned." He finishes as everyone present nods at agreement.
"Thank you Adam, your efforts and time." Yajima says as Adam nods preparing to stand up to leave as the others do the same. "So is this meeting adjourned?" Ultear ask the group standing up from her seat. "Adjourned." They all day as they all standing up as well.
Everyone starts to either talk among each other or leave, Adam was among the group leaving when he stops when he feels a hand on his shoulder. Glancing over he sees the hand to be from his grandfather.
"Hey old man wassup?" Adam says which clearly strikes a nerve in him. "Call me old again and I dare you." He says sounding really pissed off.
Nonetheless Adam smiles it off personally always enjoying getting on his grandfathers nerves due to his strict and occasionally hostile nature. "Ok dinosaur I'm sorry." He says. Org growls lowly under his breath before sighing. He then wraps his over Adams shoulder as the two begin to walk and talk away.
Era : Magic Council Headquarters : Rune Knight Training Facility
Adam and Org have made there way over to the Rune Knight Training Facility on the backside of the headquarters.
They're on an open deck looking down at a gigantic field of the knights training and spar in one corner, some taking lessons, and others using simply talking. Currently Adam is looking down at the field just looking at them as the two are completely silence.
"So?" Org begins looking at Adam who turns to face him. "It's been almost of full year since your promotion to Vice Captain, how has that been?"
Adam looks back down at the field. "Well it's fun for the most part." Adam replies to the question before briefly pausing. "Well for me anyway, it's better than being a Division Commander in my option. Now I know why you and mom were so adamant on me giving the Guardian Unit a shot."
"It's a way bigger proving ground than the other units. Since it's way bigger than the other Units by a landslide there's a lot more positions where in most, Division Commander would be the top. But there... that's just breaking rank." Adam says thinking back.
"When I first got there two years ago I hated it I can't lie, mostly because I got respect from nobody. Everyone just thought I was appointment Division Commander because of my ties to you and mom. Captain Menes didn't even listen to word I said. The old Vice Captain was an asshole. And the other Division Commanders use to always just crack jokes and throw jabs here and there." Adam says slightly gripping the rails in front of clearly visibly getting angry just from the thought of it.
"But I didn't hate it because I knew they were wrong, I hated it because I knew they to right to an extent. So I trained harder and harder until I could challenge the old Vice Captain and beat him in a fight and take his position."
Org is just staring at Adam as he gets out of his trance and notices looking at him confused and a little weirded out. "What? Is there something wrong?" He ask.
This was one of the rare occasions besides when he was a kid where his grandfather his smiling. "No just wondering when did my once impatient, hyperactive, crybaby grandson got so grown."
Adam chuckles. "I ask myself the same question sometimes." For this first time in a very long time Org truly can't recognize the man in front of him as he's grownup so much in such a short amount of time.
"Well I can definitely say that I'm very proud of you and of the man your becoming and will continue to become." He says as Adam smiles nodding. "Though there is something I must tell you." Org says as Adam looks to face him again listening to what he has to say.
"The council with a majority ruling has ask to send you on an... honestly I don't really know what to call this is practical terms. But it has to deal with Fairytail guild." Org says as Adam raises a eyebrow.
"The Fairytail guild? Isn't that the one you hate that another old man is the master of?" Adam ask very confused at the request. "Wait does this mean I'm not going back to the Unit? Does Captain Menes know?"
Org cuts him off before he starts bombarding him with a lot of questions. "Yes we inform him earlier today, and hate is very... strong word. Intolerable guild is better."
"Ok... well what am I suppose to be doing over there?"
"Recently they just had an altercation with another guild Phantom Lord I'm sure you've heard of it before." Org says as Adam nods. "Though it was self defense so all official charges were dropped against the guild. It would be a flat out lie to say that Fairytail is out of order, I know they're not a "bad" guild but at times they seem like more of an danger to society and people everywhere they go. And they're always finding themselves in the middle of something constantly."
Adam is still really confused at the point of all of this. "So what exactly does this have to do with me, I get where you're coming from. But how does this involve me?"
"Well the council has decided that Fairytail can't continue to be the way they are, so the council after a lot of arguing decided that Fairytail needs a sort of representative on the council behalf. Someone unbiased and with enough authority that they'll have no choice to atleast be more careful or just stop there outlandish behavior." Org says as Adam starts to get the picture though he doesn't like it.
"So let me get this straight." He says taking a deep breathe in and out. "So the council which you are apart of, agreed to the idea that Fairytail needs a babysitter basically and someway some how they choose me to go be that babysitter essentially leaving my position for who knows how long. And kept in mind during that voting process that I'm your grandson and that you dislike this guild a lot. I'm the person they picked?..." he says dumbfounded at the logic behind this decision in retrospect.
Org sighs nodding. "Besides Siegrain and Ultear who have just recently joined you must not forget since you've known the other council members since you were a child. Remember when you used to call Belno grandma from time to time due to how close you two became whenever we would end up in a disagreement or what it really was just trying to get out of punishment."
"You would run a go straight to Belno and complain and shes quickly rush to your defense before yelling and screaming down my neck." He says as a small smile escapes the both of them.
"Or the times you would constantly try and challenge Gran Doma to to fight to take over the council because you thought the council needed not a bunch of as i route "old people" running it." Org says as the two enjoy a laugh. "Yeah definitely wasn't my best moments back then." Adam says sweatdropping a little.
"They know you of out all people will speak your true and honest mind unless probably a Jupiter cannon is pointed directly towards you. So you being my grandson and trying to coerce you simply won't happen." He says as Adam nods. "Yep that's for damn sure."
"So what exactly am I suppose to be doing there and for how long?" He ask clearly somewhat annoyed at the circumstances. "A month or 2..." Org says very vaguely.
Adam stares at his grandfather with a facial expression that can only be read as "are you serious right now." Org sweat drops at the expression as Adam looks up at the clouds.
"Well this sucks... Fairytail huh?..." Adam says out loud before. "This better be interesting."
A/N: Ok I think I'm going to end it here, I could've gone a little longer. But honestly this chapter is pretty long in my opinion.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, like I said early please leave a review all forms of feed back help during this process. Thank you and see you guys next time (Always wanted to say that).
