She hurried along, occasionally glancing back to see if she was being watched. If they were caught it wouldn't just hurt them, they had families to protect too. It was dark, she had only pools of streetlights to guide her.
Tonks breathed a sigh of relief as she finally reached her destination. She quickly hopped up the stairs and knocked.
A smiling red head answered the door. It took all she had to say what she knew she must.
"Ron..."
"Why are you standing out there for? Come in." He opened the door further for her.
"No, Ron. I came here to tell you...it has to end."
She watched his face break and fall to floor, shattering in to pieces.
"Why?"
"I can't keep doing this to Remus. It's killing me inside. And you've got Hermione and a little one on the way. There's just too much at risk, too many people could get hurt."
"I thought..." He stopped. With a sigh he said, "You're right."
They stood there for a moment. Scarcely breathing, trying to freeze the moment, delaying the time to when they would have to spilt ways.
Tonks leaned in and briefly kissed him. "I'll miss you." She murmured against his lips before turning and walking away.
He watched her until the darkness swallowed her alive, then he closed the door and went back to his life.
