"Stephanie can I talk to you I fear you may have gotten the wrong impression when I didn't stay the other day, and you have been avoiding me." Steve asked cornering Steph before she could make it into the team area.
"I didn't misunderstand anything Mr. Rogers I reached out for comfort from a man that had been showing interest and kindness towards me and was denied." Stephanie tried to shrug him off.
"I just didn't want to take advantage of you in a weak moment. You affect me more than I'd like to admit and you have been through so much recently." Steve muttered.
"I am not a weak woman Mr Rogers trust me I know how to survive all on my own."
"I understand that I just grew up in a time where women were to be respected and protected. A man would never get into a womans bed with her until they were wed." Steve tried to find a way out of the whole he was digging for himself.
"Stop digging buddy you will reach China before you get out of that whole!" Clint called.
"Look I don't blame you for not staying I was a mess and clingy which is normally not me. Let me ask you something though how would Peggy have reacted to what you just said to me? I was a bond enforcement agent and while I got injured and into scrapes I always brought in my man. Trust me when I say this woman is just fine and does not need nor want your protection unless it comes to life or death situations."
"Well Steve now that you have been firmly put into your place how about you share Stephanie!" Tony laughed.
"You never corner a woman like little girl she will always come out fighting and always surprises you with her strength." Tank managed while nearly falling off his chair laughing.
"I still remember the last time Ranger tried to man handle her into a safe house she kneed him in the balls so hard he couldn't walk straight for a week." Lester laughed.
"She tazed me me with my own taser when Ranger ordered she be kept in the building and tazed if she tried to leave." Hal added.
"Wait how did she get your tazer?" Natasha asked.
"She asked to see it after I told her my orders and I gave it to her to look at." Hal blushed.
"You have that innocent look I could see you getting away with something like that." Natasha laughed "I will have to give her some bites she would be able to use them spectacularly."
"No bites Nat it's bad enough that you have those things Steph would toss one at us if she gets mad her Jersey temper is not suited to that." Lester begged.
"You only say that because you love to piss her off. I say she needs to carry them in case she gets separated from us. Besides we all know you will deserve it when she tosses a bite at you!"
Pepper quietly followed Stephanie finding her strapping into gloves to work on a punching bag. "Feel the need to hit something do we? I could always get someone to spar with you Steph."
"I am too wound up to spar I wouldn't want to accidentally hurt someone just because I can't keep my temper in check." Stephanie grumbled.
"You know that he really didn't mean to hurt you right. Steve really is struggling with how to deal with women romantically in this time frame."
"That may be the case but I refuse to be toyed with again. I am not going to continually put myself out there with anyone who can't make up their mind. I asked the man to hold me not to have sex with me for gods sake. I understand he is out of his element but comforting a woman hasn't changed in all those years Pepp."
"That would be true if he had, had the time to gain any true confidence before he went on ice. I remember my dad talking about him as he searched he was skinny, sick, and hopeless with women before the change. After women threw themselves at him but he had no idea how to handle a woman that was interested then before that first date with the woman he was interested in he went on ice. I know I give the man constant crap but there is a lot there beneath the surface. I would say he is nearly as hurt by the situation as you are." Tony approached the ladies startling them.
"You know Tony that is the most I have ever heard you talk without bringing yourself up or sex." Stephanie laughed.
"I will think about it that is all I can promise for now. I am not willing to put myself back in a situation to be toyed with or strung along again ever." Steph sighed
"Fair enough that is all we can ask for."
"Sir the winter soldier has been spotted and he is requesting entrance to speak to Mr. Rogers."
"Allow him through but bring him to the common floor with all Avengers present. I am pretty sure he has broken the hold Hydra has on him, but better safe than sorry."
