Writer's Notes: Thank you M, Roxhall, Jalissa, and Navy wife for your reviews! One thing that I didn't find many of was crossovers with Outlander and Twilight. I don't know why. Who doesn't love Sam Heugan and his role as Jamie Fraser? *smiles* Anyways, there are not a lot of chapters left, though things will heat up soon. I love writing stories, and have a few that I want to get out there that I have worked on. I hope everyone has enjoyed the story so far! I appreciate all of you! Don't forget to follow, favorite, and review!
[Outside Inverness: One Week Later]
Bella was getting used to riding horseback through Scotland. At this point, she was married to Jamie for a week. Whenever they had a chance, they stole kisses with each other and they couldn't keep their hands off one another. They found private times to quickly unite, but Bella couldn't wait to be back at Castle Leoch to finally get some real rest. They were outside Inverness now. This was where it all started for her. Where she first came through the stones. She knew that if she kept going West from their point, she would see the stones at Craigh na Dun, and she could return to her time. Or at least that was the theory. She still didn't understand how she even managed to make it through the stones in the first place. There had to be something more than just touching a giant stone. But she did not desire to go through the stones anymore. She wanted to be with Jamie. That meant never seeing her mother again, but she had a plan on how to get a message to her mother. Her mother was a Scottish history expert after all, so she would be able to let her mother know that she was in the past somehow, so she wouldn't be worried sick. If that's how time travel worked that is.
"What are ya thinkin' about love?" Jamie asked as he sat down next to her on the log by the fire.
"Just how this is where it all started. We're really close to Inverness. What if Captain Randall finds us here?" She murmured; her voice low.
Jamie nodded. "Well, then we take cover and hope that he passes us by. Lieutenant Whitlock said that he would handle him, right?"
"He wants to meet back at Castle Leoch. We're days away from there and it's been an entire week since we spoke." Bella said and sighed. "I just don't know at this point."
Jamie leaned over to kiss her temple. "Hey, we'll get through it. Trust me."
Bella smiled at Jamie. "I trust you."
"Jamie, there are red coats approaching fast." Angus ran up to Jamie and Bella fast.
Jamie got to his feet fast. "Alright, we'll get to our spot." He said and helped Bella up to her feet and swung up on their horses and took to the woods.
Angus and Dougal greeted the red coats as they rode up and Dougal visibly relaxed. "Lieutenant. What brings you this way?"
Jasper swung down off his horse and glanced to Dougal and Angus. "News of my failure to bring Captain Randall to justice. He seeks Bella Swan and wants any roaming Red Coats to take her in. If James Fraser is in col-"
"Jamie and Bella were married a week ago. She is under the protection of Clan Mackenzie." Dougal said, interrupting Jasper.
Jasper paused and nodded. "Good. Having the support of a clan like Mackenzie can protect her, if she stays at Castle Leoch. But Jamie is a fugitive. So, that means… he comes in if he is caught and her right along with him."
"Is he mad?" Angus barked.
Jasper raised a brow at Angus. "He is. Though, I have come as a warning. Bella I can see you in the trees. Jamie too. Come out. Edward and I are not going to take you both in. We're friends, not foe."
Jamie hesitated, but he left the trees with Bella, coming with the horses to stand before Jasper and Edward. "So, we weren't hiding well or ye have very good eyes."
"No, I saw Bella, I assumed you were with her." Jasper said. "Listen, I want to take Captain Randall down like the rest of you. I despise the man and everything he is. He's a disgrace to the English. I have no quarrel with the Scots. I would love to return home to my wife and son, though I am stuck here."
Bella looked at Jasper. "Won't you be in trouble for helping us?"
"Miss, what the Captain doesn't know, won't hurt him." Edward added. "Lieutenant. We have to report back to the city. It'll be suspicious if we are gone for too long."
Jasper nodded. "Very well. Edward, go and ride ahead. I want to speak with Bella quickly."
Edward did a slight bow then got back up on his horse and headed back towards Inverness.
Jasper looked at Bella. "Can I have a moment with you alone?"
"Absolutely not." Jamie butted in. "I won't allow ye to get my wife alone so ye can badger her for information or whatever it is yer up to."
"Jamie… it's okay." Bella said, putting a hand on his arm and gave him a small smile.
Jamie studied her but he nodded and then he walked away with Dougal and Angus, hesitantly.
Bella looked at Jasper, crossing her arms. "Alright, you've got me alone. What do you want from me?"
Jasper looked at her and was quiet a moment. "If I were you and this is just a suggestion… for you to go back." He said. "It is dangerous for you here."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Bella said, frowning.
Jasper looked west, calculating. "You're about an hour ride from the stones." He said and looked back at her. "Do I have to say it out loud?"
"You know…"
"I knew the moment you showed up speaking like an American." Jasper said.
"So, you're from-"
"2010." Jasper said. "I came to Scotland on a trip with my sister visiting her boyfriend. We traveled through the stones accidentally. It was a hard adjustment, as I imagine it is for you."
Bella swallowed. "It has, but I'm not leaving. Not now. I won't leave Jamie."
Jasper was silent. "You love him then."
"I do."
He nodded. "Very well. Then I leave you with this-"
"Wait, how long have you been here then?" Bella asked.
Jasper blew out a breath. "It's been six years. I don't have time to tell you my story, though I want to give you the option. To travel back through the stones, my sister thinks you need a gemstone. Gemstones are hard to come by here in this time, as you can imagine."
"I imagine it is. Will you be alright though? I mean, you obviously married and had children."
"No. My sister is pretending to be my wife. Neither of us were willing to explain our lineage and well, it was easier for me to slide into the red coats army considering I was military before." Jasper said and then he looked at his horse. "Take care, Bella. As promised, I will meet you at Castle Leoch. I will tell you more of my story then." He said and looked back at her. "I would seriously consider returning. Find a gemstone, when you can." He said and got back up on his horse. "Until next time." He said and tilted his hat at her and then rode off the other direction.
Bella watched him leave, her mind still reeling from everything Jasper just unloaded onto her. Jamie went back to her, Angus and Dougal getting the other men ready to ride out. They needed to move if they wanted to avoid Captain Randall.
"What did he want?" Jamie asked. When she didn't answer, he reached out and touched her arm gently, running his hand down her arm, comforting.
Bella blinked and looked at him. "Oh, just offering advice." She murmured. "He's a peculiar man."
"He is." Jamie agreed. "But what did he want?"
"He uh… wants me to be careful…"
"That wasn't all. Ye spoke for a while."
Bella swallowed. "He's from the future too." She murmured lowly. "It wasn't my secret to tell, but I promise to never keep things from you… so."
Jamie couldn't believe it. "What?"
"He was telling me that I should go back through the stones. It's dangerous here."
"He's right. It is dangerous."
Bella shook her head. "It's not an option anymore, so let's drop it. Come on, let's get moving. I don't want to piss Dougal off."
"Another American term I imagine." Jamie said and then sighed. "Well, stay close to me and we'll get through this. I promise ya, I won't let nothing bad happen to ya."
Bella smiled at Jamie. "I know." She said and leaned in and kissed him before she got up on her horse to follow the others farther away from Inverness.
