The Ghostlight!

One night, in the middle of a small town called Haydiator Springs, a group of mechanical ponies were standing together socializing at "Rare's Cafe." All of them were either talking together, enjoying their fuel, or admiring the town's neons and the sky's night stars. While even listening to the western music on the radio.

Two of the ponies had their hooves around each other while looking up. One was a red female named Rainbow McQueen. The other was a chrome blue stallion named Soarin.

Rainbow said, "Wow. It sure is a nice night."

Then the sound of a small can went off falling, and Soarin said with a chuckle, "It sure is a nice night." He made his girlfriend turn and see a stack of cans that resembled a friend of theirs, named Pink. Seeing it made McQueen chuckle too and play along.

"I sure hope Pink isn't waiting around anywhere to scare me, cause I'll freak out." Then suddenly, Pink, a brown mechanical tow pony with bushy hair jumped to the ground and shrieked, "AAHH!" Causing Rainbow to yell back and fall into the cans, seeing it was just a sign.

Pink laughed, and made everypony else laugh too, and a gray male one, Doc Starson, said to Rainbow, "If only you moved that fast at the race track, kid."

Pink helped McQueen get up and say, "Boy, buddy, you looked like you've just seen…'The Ghostlight.'"

"Pink!" Spoke up one voice, who was the Sheriff of the town. He said to Pink, "Don't mock the Ghostlight."

"What is the Ghostlight?" McQueen asked, and by saying that, the radio stopped playing and everypony froze in shock. Before they gave the Sheriff room to move forward and explain.

"The Ghostlight is a glowing blue orb that translucents a blinding light and haunts these very parts."

Pink whispered to Rainbow, "Now don't shake your hooves in a bunch, buddy, it ain't real."

"IT IS REAL!" The Sheriff yelled, shocking them both, and told the story of the Ghostlight's origin. "It all started on a night like this one. While the song dogs were wailin' at the moon off Cadillac Range and the summer wind blew hot like the breath of Zozobra, a young couple headed down this stretch of the mother road. They spotted an unnatural blue light in the distance…" A few minutes later, the Sheriff still continued the story. Everypony didn't stop listening as he reached the end. "…and all that was left were eight horseshoes. So remember: The only thing that the Ghostlight hates more than anything else…is the sound of clanking metal."

Everypony had the look of curiosity on their muzzles. But Pink showed true fear as she shook from her hooves, flank, and nose. So she tried restraining herself from doing it further. Then the Sheriff finally said, "As you head home tonight, keep an eye. The Ghostlight could be anywhere." Suddenly he changed his attitude saying, "Well, goodnight!" Then raced home.

Soon, Soarin said, "Oh I'm bushed too. Goodnight." Before he, Rainbow, and everypony else each went to their houses to sleep. Pink was the only one left, frozen in fear. Finally saying, "Uh, goodnight."

The lights all over town went off. With Pink alone, she drove herself home. She was shaking on the wheels in her hooves and singing, "B-B-Behind the c-clouds. The sun is s-s-s-shining. B-Believe me, even t-though, you can't quite m-m-make it out." She couldn't stop stuttering until she reached her junkyard house.

Then while trying to reach her bed, she noticed her only headlight get loose before it fell off and broke. Causing her to squeak and immediately shut her door. Only for the door to immediately break and fall forward, making Pink freeze. Until she noticed a dark yellow light hovering toward her.

"Oh no! It's the Ghostlight! Ghostlight, I have no disrespect towards you. Return from ye came!" She tried digging into the ground and rolled into a ball for cover. But when the light got closer to her, she saw it wasn't the Ghostlight. "Oh." She sighed in relief. "It's just a lightnin' bug. Hehehe." She laughed. "The Ghostlight ain't yellow, anyhow. Sheriff said the Ghostlight is blue." Thinking she was safe, a massive light popped out of nowhere, making Pink freeze and finally realize, "(Gasp)…THE GHOSTLIGHT!" She screamed and drove off very fast to avoid the monster chasing her. But back at her house, Rainbow and another pony gave each other a hoof-bump, showing they were responsible for their new prank.

Meanwhile Pink was driving all over town yelling, "The Ghostlight! The Ghostlight is right behind me! Now it's in front of me! Help! It's gonna eat me! Ah!" She freaked out repeatedly and drove through every spot of the area. Through Haydiator Springs, through the dirt track, the Tractor Fields, and the curving street that was at the end of town. Pink kept screaming and driving away from the light while all her friends were awake…and watching her from the curb.

"Uh let me know how it turns out." Said one purple pony, Spimone, walking away.

Ten minutes later, Pink reached the end of Haydiator Springs, mumbling in exhaustion, "The Ghostlight…it's gonna eat me…need to run before it…huh?" She stopped and realized something. By moving using her tow cable, she brought in front of her what looked like the Ghostlight, but turned to be…a lantern. It made Pink say, "Hey…wait a minute."

Then she saw everypony in front of her laughing. McQueen said, "Gotcha."

Pink chuckled back, "Hehe. Shoot. I knew this was a joke the whole time."

Sheriff, "You see, girl, the only thing to be scared of around here is your imagination."

Starson, "Yep. That and of course the Screaming Banshee." He said as there was silence. Before suddenly, he said, "Well, goodnight." And everypony did the same thing as before. Racing home and turning off all the lights, including the street lights. Leaving nothing but Pink alone with the lantern. Which made her shake in fear again. "T-The Screaming what?"

A few minutes later, Pink was still shaking and not thinking about what was behind her. A slow grumbling was sounding off, and when Pink turned around she saw a massive monster truck staring at her. But instead of freaking out, she easily said, "You better run. They say there's a banshee or something out here, but I haven't seen him yet. Anyway, goodnight." Making the truck stopped looking hostile, but stood in confusion.

"Huh?"

(1) "Not Much to Say"

(2) "This Chapter"

(3) "Final Remarks"

Alrighty. What did you guys think of that? Not as funny as the original, I understand, but something fun to share. Based on the same short that's part of the Cars series. Though with the other chapters I shared these past few days, I don't think there's too much to say in the author notes. Other than this chapter and some new showings of the other art I got to share. And a few more things.

Now, in this chapter, the characters pretty do a…reversal switch. Like when Apple Bloom played Kevin, Rainbow Dash played Lightning McQueen, Pinkie is Mater, Soarin is Sally. For the others, the Sheriff of Appaloosa is the Sheriff of Radiator Springs, and Starswirl is Doc Hudson. "Spimone" is supposed to be…I guess Spike playing Ramone. I wrote this a long time ago and can't remember how I planned the thing, but I got it. Plus, if I have Rarity playing Flo, then it works.

If you're also curious as to how the characters look in this story, how about this: They're all metallic ponies that drive like cars. They have a wheel under each hoof. Only the racers and plane-use ponies have wings but the racers don't fly. Their headlights could be on top of their forelegs. Like where their shoulders would be.

Now with that, besides what else I may plan, I will work on editing my other stories, and it's hard to say what new story I may publish since the year is almost over. In fact, around Christmas, I may not publish a short story for it, but share some art to celebrate it among other things.

So see you next time, my friends and thanks again for reading what I share.
