Chapter Two: In Which Polygons Are Tricked
"To ensure that no underage student yields to temptation," said Dumbledore, "I will be drawing an Age Line around the Goblet of Fire once it has been placed into the entrance hall."
"Won't that be an Age Polygon, then?" said Harry, raising an eyebrow.
Hermione was surprised someone other than her noticed. "You are right, actually. If a line is drawn around something, then it's a polygon!"
"A small mistake," Harry allowed. "Understandable one, I'm sure."
"An Age Line!" Fred Weasley said, his eyes glinting, as they all made their way across the Hall to the doors into the entrance hall. "Well that should be fooled by an Aging Potion, shouldn't it? And once your name's in that Goblet —"
"Hey, how about some non-magical methods, eh?" offered Harry.
The twins scoffed. As if non-magical methods could ever defeat the Age Line. . . .
"I know what you are thinking; I think you should hear me out or else you might miss out on some great ideas!"
They gave him his full attention.
Harry started, "How about getting someone of age to put in your name? Because the Age Line only prevents underage students from crossing it! Give them something for their troubles, and done!"
There were whispers all around.
"Also, underage students can't cross the line, but inanimate objects can! Just wedge your piece of parchment between two rods, carry it over the line while standing outside, and release it into the Goblet! No need to be seventeen at all!"
"Dear Harry —" began Fred.
"We want —" said George.
"More of your —"
"Brilliant ideas!"
"Sure! How about throwing a rock at it? Knock the Goblet off and outside the line! Or using some rope as a lasso to pull it outside the line? If your parchment can't get to the Goblet, the Goblet can come to you!" said Harry. He was on a roll.
Fred and George said at the same time, "More, Harry dear, more!"
"Crumple the parchment into a ball and throw it across? That sounds really easy to me right now. . . ."
The twins were worshipping Harry by the time they reached the entrance hall.
"I have a few magical methods too. Summon the Goblet! If that doesn't work, Summon the table or whatever the Goblet is kept on! Or, do something really different. Banish it! Levitate it! I bet my pinky something will work!"
AN: Roses are red, murder is a crime.
This is a poem, but I don't know how to rhyme.
