Blue Magatama of an Unlucky and Selfless Girl
"So, what do you think of that manga store?" Yuna asked Kazuki as they were out together doing a little shopping.
"It was great, and I love of how they got the series I wanted." Kazumi answered smiling.
"I'm glad you like it, I thought it would be something boys like you would be into." Yuna explained, glad that her plan worked.
"So, have you thought about"
"Hey kids, look out!" A construction worker shouted as five I-beams are falling toward the two magical teens.
"Oh, my!" Yuna shocked.
Kazuki saw this and held out his hand to use his magic to stop the I-beams from falling onto top of them and place them into the ground safely.
"Yuna, are you okay?" Kazuki asked.
"Yes, I'm alright, but Kazuki! Why did you end up using your magic again? That's the third time this week." Yuna worried.
"Sorry, I just couldn't help myself in wanting to protect you as my mate." Kazumi chuckled scratching the back of his head.
"You two okay." The construction worker asked running up to them.
"Yes, we're fine. I was able to use my magic to save us." Kazuki answered.
"Hey kid, I'd be careful if I were you when using up your magic." The construction worker advised.
"Don't worry, we know about the turning into ashes." Yuna stated.
"Well, then I bet you guys have heard about lots of people turning into ashes recently due to magical accidents." The construction worker informed shocking the two.
"What? Are you sure?" Yuna asked.
"Yeah, heard it from the news." The construction worker nodded.
"Kazuki, we're going home right now." Yuna grabbed her hand, and they walk fast back to th dormitory.
"Hey, Yuna!" Kazuki shocked.
"You know, I wonder if some of those people will come back as ghost?" The construction worker asked himself.
Kazuki's wolf ears picked up on what the man just what and got him to thinking about earlier at school today about hearing a girl's voice, the weird headache, and the words she said.
"Save me."
"(Could that have been a ghost?)" Kazuki thought wondered.
(Kuriko's Room)
In Kuriko, the three girls are watching the late-night news about people suddenly turning to ashes and the government have not yet respond to this crisis which makes the girls worry.
"Tell me, how long as it been since we came back from the hot spring?" Kuriko asked.
"I believe it was about 25 days ago, almost a full month." Rin answered, keeping track of time.
"And during those, how many times has Kazuki ended up using his magic?" Kuriko asked again.
"Elven, and just earlier with those I-beams, that makes it twelve which means he only has 96 spell counts." Yuna reported.
"Damn it, it'll be only a matter of time before Kazuki goes back down to single digit spell counts again and he'll end up turning into ashes." Kuriko worried.
"And it's all because Shikimori wouldn't stop using his magic for the good of others more so than himself." Rin pointed out.
"Kazuki can't help but acting as he has always been, he just has a kind heart." Yuna stated.
"Yes, he's nothing but a go-to luck kind of guy." Kuriko said which Yuna couldn't help but agree to that.
"If he's going to behave like this, all we can do is hold him down and take his genes by force before he turns into ash. Yeah, why not!" Kuriko angered.
"Kuriko, let's not get carried away." Yuna stated.
"But these are very compelling feelings!" Kuriko whined then Elizabeth came out.
"There, there, I'm sure father is aware of this wouldn't do anything to make you all cry." Elizabeth believed, petting her adopted mother's head.
"Still though, w should try to find a way to help increase Kazuki's spell count again to make sure he doesn't overuse his magic again." Rin said.
"Well, let each try finding different methods and try them on Kazuki." Yuna suggested.
"Yes, that we can try." Rin agreed.
"But aren't human experiments illegal or something?" Elizabeth asked, feeling a bit puzzle in this plan.
"Only on serious things like medicines with doctors and don't worry, I'm sure what we'll find will be harmless." Kuriko hoped she's right.
"Okay, if you all say so." Elizabeth said.
(The Next Day)
Through most of the day, the girls have been using every method they can find within the research of their reach, some of them would taste gross like drinking wine and exhausted from exercising too much. Kuriko even took him to a shady doctor with a hot, painful method that gave the young werewolf king a serious burn and howled so much, he broke the glasses of his window.
They went to see Dr. Akai about if anything has changed in Kazuki's spell counts while Kazuki is still wondering about that voice, he heard at that maple tree.
"Unfortunately, there has been no changes to Shikimori remaining spell counts. His level remains as 96 uses." Dr. Akai informed.
"Thank you, doctor." Yuna said as she and the girls sighed.
"I know how worry you girls must feel, but you mustn't be impatient." Dr. Akai said.
With all that said and done, the others decided to just go back to their classes for now and sometime later, Kazuki is seen resting on the maple tree where he would always take his nap though he's more awake with some concerns in mind.
Suddenly the ringing pain in his head came back.
"Not again." Kazuki groaned.
"Save me." The girl's voice begged again.
Kazuki looks around to see if there is anyone here, but there is not a soul around which means it just a mysterious voice talking to him in his head.
"It's weird, it sounds like the same voice from before." Kazuki said and turned around seeing the tree.
"And it doesn't look like this maple tree looks any healthy either, but there's no way a tree could talk." Kazuki said looking up at the tree.
"What are you doing, Kazuki?" Yuna asked as she walks up to him.
"Hey Yuna, and what is with all these books?" Kazuki surprised of a tall stack of books Yuna is carrying.
"I got them from the local library." Yuna answered.
"Let me guess, they're all about magic." Kazuki said as he got to know what the girls are thinking these days.
"That's right, we're all searching a way to increase your spell counts." Yuna explained.
"Won't you join us? We're all going to be at the library." Yuna asked.
Kazuki wanted to say so as he can tell this is going to be an extreme study session and may take all day, but he went to the library in the end as Rin is there too wearing cute glasses.
"I believe Kuriko will be joining us later as well, but you can go ahead and get started on your end, Shikimori." Rin said.
"I don't know, this feels like a waste of time to me." Kazuki stated.
"How can you say that?! You'll never know unless you try! We're doing this for you, so you can at least try to help!" Yuna scolded.
"She is correct. How can we help someone who will not first help himself?" Rin agreed.
"Okay, you made your point. I'll help." Kazuki gave in.
"Thank you, and here, Rin. This stack will be your share." Yuna pushed some books to Rin much to her shock.
After a full hour or so of reading through some of the books, they could not find anything.
Meanwhile, Sayumi walks in the library to find one book to help her pass the time whenever she is not on training.
"Don't give up, let's all think positive thoughts!" Yuna yelled a little.
"That sounded like Yuna." Sayumi recognized that voice and went up to see Yuna with Kazuki and Rin.
"(And I thought Rin did not want anything to do with Kazuki.)" Sayumi thought.
"The object in secret art to increase magic power has been FOUND!" Yuna shouted causing Kazuki to fell off his chair and Sayumi to jump out of hiding.
"Sayumi? What are you doing here?" Kazuki asked.
"I was just finding myself a book to read, but now I found you three doing research." Sayumi answered.
"We're trying to find a way to help increase Kazuki's spell counts." Yuna said.
"Again? But I thought Kazuki already got a big increase since your trip to that hot spring resort." Sayumi confused.
"Yes, but Shikimori still kept using his magic and now has only 96 left." Rin explained.
"I see, Kazuki was helping others, wasn't he?" Sayumi looked at Kazuki who chuckles nervously.
"Yes, so far we found nothing until I discovered this." Yuna showed everyone the page of a magazine.
"What is this?" Yuna asked.
"That's a magatama, a type of jewel that were made in the Kofun period." Sayumi answered.
"Ah, I have seen that before." Rin said.
"Does your family have ancient jewelries or something?" Kazuki asked.
"No, but I read about it in this book and my family owns a magatama quite similar to that one." Rin showed the picture of the magatama from another book.
"Then it would only assume the owner of that magatama should be written here as well." Sayumi said.
"Correct, down here." Rin pointed at the bottom of the page.
"City of Tokyo owned by Oto… How do you say this?" Yuna asked.
"It says, Keyaki Otomura." Rin corrected the reading.
"Keyaki Otomura?" Kazuki wondered how this person could be.
"I believe Miss Otomura was one of our seniors here in Aoi academy, and also member of the biological club." Rin mentioned.
"Senor, that would mean she was in this school before any of us joined this school." Sayumi assumed.
"Yes, I saw her name listed in the club roaster and thought her name was a little strange." Rin explained.
"Then we just got to look her up and find her! Isn't that great!" Yuna excited.
"But Yuna, we're not even sure if she is still in the city." Kazuki said.
"True, and you cannot find her because I heard Miss Otomura passed at an untimely manner." Rin revealed.
"What do you mean she passed away?" Kazuki asked.
"She was sick while attending Aoi academy and died right before the graduation ceremony." Rin answered.
"My word, to die right when you're ready to take on the word. How tragic." Sayumi crossed her arms, feeling sad for the girl.
"Does she have any relatives?" Yuna asked.
"I believe not. Her funeral service was conducted by people connected to the school." Rin mentioned making the others feel more sorry for Keyaki.
"I know about Keyaki Otomura too." Kuriko said walking up to them.
"Kuriko, you knew Miss Otomura?" Yuna asked surprise.
"Did you know her personally?" Sayumi asked.
"Not much, but I did know she was a kind person and she passed away back when I was a first-year. I even helped with the funeral, so there's no mistaken it." Kuriko explained.
"It must be sad to heard about one of your senpai passed." Kazuki said with a hand on her shoulder.
"Sometimes I wish I could have gotten to know her more, I remember her wearing a blue magatama around her neck as a pendant. She said her father who was an antique collector brought it for her." Kuriko mentioned.
"I wonder where that magatama is now?" Yuna asked.
"I think her younger sister, Kaede would have it." Kuriko recalled Keyaki having a younger sister.
"This Kaede, do you know where she is now?" Sayumi asked.
"I'm not sure. I believe I heard Kaede was very ill and Keyaki came to Aoi Academy because she wanted to study medicine here." Kuriko explained.
"Come to think of it, Rin mentioned the school held her funeral and no relatives came. That would mean Kaede never came to the funeral." Sayumi figured that part out.
"Yep, I never met her once." Kuriko nodded.
"Maybe she was confined in a hospital." Yuna guessed.
"Well, in any case, I would like to meet her." Kazuki said feeling curious about this Kaede and want to learn more about Keyaki.
"Let's do it!" Yuna agreed.
"Kuriko, do you happen to know here Miss Otomura's home is?" Yuna asked.
"Hell yeah, I do!" Kuriko said throwing a thumb up and her breasts jiggles.
"Hey Sayumi, why don't you come with us? It'll be more helpful if we have some extra hands." Kazuki suggested.
"I'm afraid I must decline; this feel more involve with you and these three girls." Sayumi turned Kazuki down and tries to walk away, but the wolf boy grabs her hand.
"Come on now, I think you just need a little adventure in your life, and I wouldn't mind because you're the only other person I can rely on than the rest of our classmates." Kazuki smiled with his wolf ears flapping a little.
"Not to mention, you're pretty awesome with your fists, so that can be a big help too." Kazuki added.
Sayumi suddenly felt her heart racing from just hearing those kind words from Kazuki's mouth reminding her of the time of how they raced together, and how Kauzki grabbed her breast by accident as the memory never left her mind. Along her cheeks blushing even though she tries her best to keep herself overreacting or anything.
"Very well, I shall accompany you on this trip." Sayumi decided to just go with this.
"Awesome, thank you for joining us!" Kazuki smiled with his tail wagging of joy.
"(Why do I feel like Kazuki just gave me a new love rival.)" Kuriko thought pouted.
"(Perhaps this can help us get along better than our two families.)" Rin thought hoped.
(Abandon Otomura House)
The four Aoi students arrived at the old house that the Otomura family used to live seeing that it looks the place seeing definitely looks abandoned.
"I'm not sure if anybody lives here." Kazuki concerned.
"Maybe not, but we may find some clues about Keyaki Otomura such as her old diary or something." Sayumi suggested.
"Normally, I would go against invading a person's privacy, but this is all for Shikimori." Rin stated.
Kazuki leans his face onto the wooden door of the old house when suddenly he felt something like the presence of a person in this house, Rin and Sayumi sense this as well.
"Back away, Shikimori!" Rin alerted.
"Something is happening!" Sayumi added.
Kazuki quickly jumps out of the way when those two wooden doors popped out of the house almost hitting the wolf boy.
"Kazuki, are you okay?" Yuna asked worry.
"I'm fine, Rin and Sayumi were able to warn me just in time." Kazuki said.
"Good instinct, it would seem Shikimori was right to bring you along." Rin complimented.
"Thank you, though I think you could sense that without my help." Sayumi said with a small smile.
"Be careful, I sensed a presence just now though it vanished." Kazuki alerted the girls.
"So have we, but it is gone now." Rin said as she opens the old door.
"Is something in there?" Yuna asked.
"For a moment, yes. We cannot tell if it's a ghost, but it's close to that." Sayumi said.
"Did someone say ghost?" Elizabeth asked as she came out of Kuriko.
"Ah, so you must be the ghost child of Kuriko I heard so much about. I am Sayumi Morisaki." Sayumi greeted.
"It's nice to meet you, are you another woman who has fallen for father like the others?" Elizabeth asked causing Sayumi's face to turn red.
"Of course not, we're just classmates helping each other out." Sayumi proclaimed.
"Everyone, the presence came from this room." Rin said getting their attention.
"Be extremely cautious when we enter." Rin warned.
"Hey, don't try to scare us, Rin." Kuriko said.
"Then I'll go." Kazuki walked past the girls and open the door showing the small room and noticed a small blue object on the desk.
"A magatama?" Kazuki wondered if this is the magatama they came searching for as he entered the room.
"Wait, Shikimori!" Rin and Sayumi tried to stop him from picking up that magatama.
But it was too late as Kazuki had already touch the magatama and picks it up, then suddenly it shines a bright light onto Kazuki for a moment, and now he finds himself in what appears to be the living room of the old house though look a little younger and saw one girl reaching out in pain.
"What's wrong?" Kazuki asked, the girl open her mouth, but no words were heard.
"What are you saying?" Kazuki asked again.
"Kazuki!" All the girls called out to Kazuki and suddenly everything fade into white.
