A/N: I am republishing this story. There have been edits made. The text that has been italicized is a flashback, and the text that has been bolded is from the show. I am merely borrowing characters besides though that are not recognized.
"So I heard you had a fun shift," Kathleen says as she pushes the stroller along the pathway in the park. "Something about a sting operation."
"It was a John sweep," Gail says as she walks alongside her. "It was interesting. Not something I would want to do again."
"Those are the worst," Kathleen says as they move towards a bench. "They should pay you overtime for that one."
"Well, Andy and Dov got kicked off and then ended up taking down a weapons syndicate," Gail complains as she sits down. "I do the job that I'm supposed to and they go after a bigger fry. They did it without notifying anyone."
"It's going to depend on the officer and who they are," Kathleen says. She puts the brake on the stroller before sitting down. "I'm sure that Uncle Jason was not too pleased with them, and I bet neither was Sam nor Oliver."
"They endangered a civilian and put themselves at risk," Gail says. She reaches into the stroller and takes Faylinn out of the seat. "Sam was not too pleased with Andy after that."
"What is going on with those two, anyway?"
"They almost kissed after the first shift they worked together, and now it is awkward. There is the whole rule of rookies and training officers to consider, but I don't think that would faze Sam any."
"Not. He is all about breaking the rules. Though I heard that Detective Jaspers might have a thing for her."
"But it's Jaspers, even though I know to stay away from that guy. Doesn't he date a new rookie each year or something?"
"I know Sam isn't too fond of him. Then again, the only detective that Sam does like is Jerry."
"True, he seems to tolerate Steve and Luke, but I know that is more for your sake than anything else."
"So, is this why my ears are ringing?" Steve says as he approaches the three of them. "Why are we gossiping about me?"
"Not you per se," Kathleen says as she looks up at him. "Aren't you far from home to be out running?"
"Meeting Bibby," Steve says before kneeling and making faces at Faylinn. "He wanted to discuss something with me."
"What kind of trouble is Bibby in now?" Gail says as she watches Faylinn reach for Steve.
"Who knows?" Steve says as he takes Faylinn into his arms and holds her close. "We never know what kind of trouble poor Bibby gets into, do we?"
Kathleen only shakes her head as she watches her cousins and daughter interact. It wasn't odd for either of them to stop by on their days off, only to say hi or bring a coffee over and catch up. Her entire family had been doing it ever since Luke went back to work. Though more often than not it was her dad that was stopping by, Steve was known to as well, when he was in the area.
"Where's daddy dearest?" Steve asks as he pulls her from her thoughts.
"Working, he's still on days for a few more rotations," Kathleen answers. She notices Faylinn's eyes flutter and her moving her hands. "It's someone's nap time."
"No fair," Bibby says as he approaches the group. "Every time I see her, she is about to fall asleep."
"Well, she sleeps almost three-quarters of the day away," Gail says in a sarcastic tone. Steve places Faylinn back into her stroller.
"I'll bring her by the station next week for a visit," Kathleen says. She reaches into the diaper bag and pulls out a pacifier and gives it to Faylinn. "If you all can play nice."
"Deal," Steve and Bibby say as Gail keeps quiet.
"Don't worry, Uncle Jason and Noelle have already requested another visit to 15," Kathleen says. She pulls the canopy down and over the bassinet. "Plus, your mom has requested her presence at HQ."
"I'd get in those brownie points with her," Steve says as he looks around. "You never know when you might need them."
"Well, we are hoping to set the date for the christening in the next couple of weeks," Kathleen says. She pulls out her phone. "Thinking about the first week of September, so keep your calendars open."
"Deal," Bibby says as he looks at Steve, "but we should get going and let your three enjoy your day."
"Yeah," Steve says as he looks at them. "We'll catch up later."
"Okay," Gail and Kathleen say as the two of them walk away.
"Wonder what that was about," Gail questions as she watches them.
"Who knows," Kathleen says as she stands up. "Want to hit the gelato shop on Yonge Street?"
"Definitely," Gail says as she stands and they walk towards the shop. "How are the christening plans coming along?"
"They are slowly coming along. Your mom is supposed to locate the family christening gown. Father O'Rourke should get back to me soon with some dates."
"It'll need to be cleaned and could need to be mended since no one has used it in almost 25 years. Do you need any help from me?"
"As of right now, no. Your parents have agreed to do it like how we did our wedding. We are having the ceremony at St. Patrick's and lunch at your parent's place. I only need to find a caterer and figure out what we are doing for the cake. The hardest part is going to be the scheduling nightmare."
"True, but mom and uncle Jason should be able to take care of that. Plus, with enough notice, we should all be able to book it off, as long as Sam doesn't take another undercover position."
"Trust me, if he does, there will be hell to pay. Thus see why I want to lock in a date. That way no one can say it's last minute."
"Very true, plus I don't think my mom would let him till after christening. Considering she may go a bit overboard with all the decorating and extras."
"Don't remind me, I'm still not over how my tiny wedding went from small and simple to small and over the top."
"It's Mammy, do you remember your sweet sixteen?"
"Oh man," Kathleen says as she thinks back to the party.
Kathleen stood at the entrance of the small Italian restaurant. Her aunt had rented it out for her sixteenth birthday party. "Daddy."
"I know, it's Elaine. What can we do?" Donovan said as he noticed the Mardi Gras theme throughout. "At least she didn't go St. Patrick's day themed."
"True," Kathleen said as she looked around the room. She wore a tea-length relaxed lace dress. It had a delicate eyelash trim to make up the classic sweetheart neckline bodice. The shoulder straps drape alluringly around the arms. It created a beautiful A-line silhouette with a chiffon skirt. "Okay, we can do this for only a few hours."
"That's the spirit," Donovan said as they entered the room. "Just remember how your aunt loves you to death."
Kathleen rolls her eyes before her family bombarded her.
"Longest four hours of my life," Kathleen says as they reach the gelato shop. "Remind me to have her reined in."
Gail laughs before opening the door. "Good luck with that one."
