A/N: This one, I was listening to "Crystallize" by Thomas Bergersen to help me visualize. It can also be found on Youtube, if you're like me and want to listen.
Glowing each their own color, they did not lose each other through the thick condensation and the wind.
And then they burst into the cavern of clouds, the tumultuous gray and black and dark storm cell lit by the glow of static electricity in its walls. The harshest area was almost a storm in itself, up at the furthest reaches of the area. And Grimmel and Darling hovered in the middle, waiting.
Grimmel's confidence waned as he saw the two dragons. His eyes widened. "What?" he asked in shock. The two Night Furies flew up towards him side by side, snarling and roaring, not at all followed by his loyal Deathgrippers. He whistled for Darling to move, but Toothless roared a different command.
STAY WHERE YOU ARE.
And so Darling, attuned to the Alpha's will, stayed. Grimmel hammered on her and commanded her again, but she shook her head, eyes locking onto Toothless's. And his were scarier now.
Toothless and Albino turned their faces to each other and rose into the air, stopping their wings and hovering for a moment. And then each tipped their heads back and dove backwards, and the Night Fury dance began again.
Where it was meant to be.
Amongst storm clouds and lightning, one around the other.
They swept far away from each other and caught themselves on the swirl of wind. Opposite each other, the perfect distance away, they chased the other's slipstream, their wings skimming the edges of the clouds. Down, and around. Never breaking the string between them, the distance always the same.
Their backs glowed to an inaudible song.
Their eyes closed. They knew the steps. They moved as one.
They swirled, calling the vastest universe and the smallest molecule and its electrons, circling the storm cell and creating one of their own. The very clouds followed their flight. Lightning clung to their bellies, which faced out. Their backs to each other, where they protected a world of their own.
In the center, Grimmel yelled in a rage as Darling ignored his every order, the winds whipping around him with ever more vehemence and determination.
The storm hummed impossibly to the perfection of the dance.
Below them, the dragons of Berk closed their eyes and their sensors rattled as they listened. Toothless' and Albino's ear frills rattled as though listening to the hums of every Night Fury that had come before them, and felt as though they all flew there with them, guiding them like bolts of lightning, springing from the clouds. The dragons they used to know called out to them kindly, approving of the match, glowing their own shades of cool tones. Albino's head tilted, her throat rumbling tearfully, as she felt her mother nearby. Her family. The shades of Toothless's old mentors swept behind him, crooning proudly in voices he had almost forgotten.
Moon-guider, watching, began to cry, with her own eyes closed and her head following the dance and her frills vibrating along.
The blue glow of the storm followed Toothless and soon it was as if the whole cavern was alight with his own light. The clouds reacted to him as he drew a spiral up to the top, soaring upside down. Albino, under him, did the same, and the clouds were a swirl with Grimmel in the very center of the cell.
And the dance came to an end.
Toothless soared upside down to the peak of his trajectory, the highest point he could get to, and Albino reached her opposite point.
Toothless opened his eyes and let himself fall.
Her own pink eyes flashing open as well, Albino pumped her wings down and shot upwards, her momentum from the dance lending her strength, and the two Night Furies closed the distance between themselves. Toothless brought his wings close to his body and dove down, inhaling in a scream and Albino flapped with more power than she'd ever known, her heart leaping and her eyes locked on Toothless, her own fire breath charging up.
The Night Furies released their blasts at the same time.
And they dove through their own fires at the same time.
Grimmel screamed.
—
World-shaking thunder struck from seemingly everywhere. Berkians' eyes were glued to the sky as it suddenly became quiet, and then—
From the very center of their dance, lightning exploded in every direction. A mass of electricity shooting out from where they collided with such force that it could have blown the clouds apart. The clouds glowed pale blue from every angle as though the Northern Lights themselves inhabited every square inch of the sky and it stayed, lighting the island of Toothless's birth and throwing a shockwave out, forcing the winds away.
Under it, the dragons glowed as though they were in the Hidden World after all.
