Chapter 87 Murder Attempt 3

"

The van backed up and was just about to run over Jax when TB and his driver Elliot drove up. Elliot immediately jumped out of the car with his gun preparing to shoot the van if it got any closer to Jax. The van's driver did the math and got the hell out of there. Elliot pocketed his gun and ran to Jax to assess his injuries. TB was already on his cell to 911 after he turned on the car's hazard lights and pulled up the car to a couple of car lengths from Jax in a protective formation.

"How's he doing?" TB asked walking over to where Jax lay sprawled on the road.

"He's breathing and unconscious. If he doesn't have any serious internal injuries, he should recover."

"If we hadn't shown up when we did, Jax would be dead."

Elliot, a short compact man with a balding head and dark intense eyes nodded.

"Definitely appeared the van was going to run him over."

"Excellent work getting out of the car so fast. If you hadn't, Jax would be dead."

Elliot smiled pleased with the compliment.

"The training just kicked in," Elliot said. He was a little more than a driver. He had been trained in evasive driving techiniques and took refresher classes every six months. TB just liked to be careful and he'd had the occasional threat on his life. It was only natural for Elliot to also carry a gun. It was also useful if he needed to defend against road rage.

Sirens came screaming towards them. Jax was quickly loaded on a back board, shoved into the ambulance and the ambulance went speeding away. Just as TB and Elliot were about to get into the car, a police patrol car pulled up also with sirens and flashing lights.

"I'm deputy police chief Hale," David said introducing himself.

TB introduced himself and Elliot. They quickly recounted seeing the van back up and appear to be about to drive over Jax when Elliot came to the rescue.

"This is the license plate number on the van," TB said, rattling off the plate number.

David was impressed that TB had the presence of mind to get the plate number. Not many stayed cool enough to do that.

The interview was quickly concluded and David called for another unit to help investigate this latest attempt on Jax's life.

"Let's go on up to the house and get Ava and we'll go to the hospital. Hopefully by then they'll know something about his condition."

Elliot nodded, got in the car and they continued up to the house. Once inside, TB decided he better tell Ava in person. He was curious about her reaction. He remembered that she'd been annoyed when he'd gotten stabbed in prison.

Ava was sitting in her room watching a Hallmark movie when her father knocked at her door. She was stunned. He rarely came to her room. He usually had Jeeves summon her.

"Jax got run off the road on his bike. The van was about to run over him when Elliot and I drove up. Elliot got out with his gun and the van took off. He's at St. Thomas."

"Is he OK?" Ava asked. For the first time, she was actually concerned that someone had hurt Jax. It was a big change from when she was thinking about hiring someone to kill him a few weeks ago.

"We don't know. He was alive when they put him in the ambulance."

Ava shoved her feet into a pair of black sandals and grabbed her black purse.

"I'll go with you," TB said.

They quickly returned to the car and Elliot sped off to St. Thomas.

Jax woke up on the way to the hospital. He tried to sit up but found his neck and back were strapped down.

"I'm OK," Jax said. "I don't need to go the hospital."

The two young male paramedics exchanged glances.

"You may have a head injury and we don't know about internal injuries. You need to be evaluated at the hospital."

Jax didn't think that was a good idea. He didn't know why, but it just seemed like a lot of work. He was perfectly fine with the exception of this headache. They had taken off his helmet. He thought about asking for it, but then things went dark again.

By the time Ava and TB got to the hospital, Jax had been sent for an MRI of his head.

"I'm Dr. Knowles," a woman of average height and build introduced herself to Ava and TB, "I have been taking care of Jax."

"How is he?" Ava asked quickly. She surprised herself by actually caring about the answer.

"I assessed him for internal injuries. There doesn't appear to be any internal injuries, but we'll x-ray him. Make sure there aren't any broken bones. I want to rule out any kind of head trauma, so he's having an MRI of his head. Jax usually doesn't get so messed up from going down on his bike," Tara said with an awkward laugh.

Ava's eyes narrowed as she studied Tara. She wasn't anything special. She could be considered Charming pretty—she was somewhat pretty for someone living in that small town but in Los Angeles or San Francisco, no one would give her a second look. She had dark hair pulled back into an ugly bun, a large nose and brown eyes the color of things flushed down toilets.

"How do you know Jax?" Ava asked with fake brightness.

"He was my high school boyfriend. My first love. My first everything," Tara said smiling.

After Tara had gotten dumped by Josh Kohn because according to him she was too clingy, she decided to move from Chicago. The crime was high, the city dangerous and she hated the winters. It was time for a new place to live.

When she saw that Jax had gotten out of prison and there was an opening for an ER doctor at St. Thomas, she decided it was fate. Jax had been the love of her life and it was time to get him back. She did know that he'd gotten married, but she figured out that he'd only married to use the woman to get out of prison. Once he saw her, they would get back together. She always thought they were meant to be together. It was their destiny.

Ava gave Tara a hard look. She was going to have a few words with Jax when he was up to it because he told her that he'd never had a girlfriend. What the hell was going on? Oh, and someone had just tried to kill him—again. What made him so irresistible to killers? And why were they so incompetent?

Ava vowed to get some answers.

"

Author's Note: I hadn't planned on putting Tara in this story, but when I sent Jax to St. Thomas, I couldn't resist making her his doctor and then having some fun with her. This is definitely a different Tara from my other story, Little Toy Bikers and a Woman on the Run.

If you're a Tara fan, you won't like this version of Tara, but then again, you probably wouldn't be reading Jax/OC fan fic if you were a Jax/Tara loyalist. If you don't like Tara, you might enjoy this different take on her, but you might end up feeling a little sorry for her—unless you really HATE her.
