Chapter 96 More Than 10
Despite Ava telling Jax she wasn't worried about being in trouble with him, as the silence between them lengthened on the drive home, she was beginning to get concerned.
The only time she'd gotten into trouble in her whole life was with her father when he changed his will. Jax couldn't do anything like that to her. The worst thing he could do to her was divorce her and she didn't think he would take that drastic a step. It was his own fault she threw beer on him anyway. He shouldn't have let that porn whore sit on his lap. This was all his fault. He was in trouble with her!
Despite his words to Ava about being in big trouble with him, Jax recognized that she handled the situation the way the old lady of the MC's VP should. If Ava had become upset and run out of the clubhouse, it would have made her look weak. The old lady of a VP needed to rule over the women in the clubhouse. She should have stopped after throwing beer on Ima and that's why she was in trouble with him.
The problem was he didn't know what the hell he was going to do about her throwing beer on him. He couldn't slap her around or give her a beat down. He promised her father that he wouldn't hit her and JT always said that a real man keeps his old lady in line because she respects him and only a weak man uses physical violence. He wondered how the hell his father would handle Ava.
Dark Tower made sure they made it safely to their bedroom. Jax looked at Ava and still had no idea how he was going to deal with his feisty bride.
What he really wanted to do was have sex with her. Of course he pretty much always wanted to have sex especially with Ava so handy. Damn these broken ribs! When he was healed, he wanted to spend at least three days in bed having sex with Ava as many times as possible.
"I'm taking a shower so I don't smell like a brewery and then," Jax's voice changed into the one that caused prospects to shit themselves "you're in big trouble." He grabbed his sleeping attire and walked into the bathroom.
Ava's eyes widened but she said nothing. Jax actually sounded kind of scary. She knew it was sick and twisted but it sent a shiver of excitement down her spine. She loved that male side to him. She meant that she kind of liked that side to him. He could kick the ass of any of the guys she had been with—he could probably kick all their asses at once since there weren't very many. After his ribs healed of course.
Jax chuckled to himself at the look on Ava's face when he told her she was in big trouble with him. This time she hadn't scoffed at his warning. It turned out handling an old lady might be a lot like dealing with prospects.
He tried to let the hot water relax his body, but he was sexually frustrated. He gave himself a quick hand job fantasizing about Ava before lathering up and rinsing his body. He dressed slowly and painfully. He could definitely tell it was time for pain meds.
"Time to talk," Jax said walking into the bedroom wearing light blue pajama bottoms and a short sleeved white T-shirt.
"I don't understand why I'm in trouble," Ava said defiantly. She got up from the chair she'd been sitting in so he didn't have a height advantage over her. "You were the one with the porn whore on your lap." The effects of Jax's scary voice had worn off. She was ready for battle.
"Ima sat down on my lap before I could stop her," Jax said calmly.
"That MC guy Juice wouldn't tell me if you had ever been with Ima. That means that you have. You were with her weren't you?"
"A time or two, but that was a couple of years ago," Jax said truthfully. He could have lied, but it didn't matter how convincing the lie, Ava was going to believe he had sex with Ima. He might as well admit it and move on.
"She's a porn star," Ava said raising her voice.
"Yeah. Definitely overrated and I always used a condom."
Ava stared at Jax. He was just so casual about it. Porn stars were on the same level as hookers.
"How many women have you been with?" Ava demanded trying to keep her voice level.
"Some."
"Some?" His vague answer angered her. "How many?"
Jax rubbed his hand over his chin considering his answer.
"More than 10?" she asked after the silence grew too much for her.
"More than 10."
That wasn't that much, Ava reassured herself. That would be just a girl every year or so—depending on how many over 10.
"More than 50?" she asked.
"Yeah," Jax said. He didn't get why this mattered to Ava. It wasn't as though he told her she was his first and only. Sleeping with fewer than 50 girls would make him a loser, which sounded a lot like the kind of men Ava was with before him.
Ava's eyes widened in surprise. More that 50 was a lot of women. Maybe she was going to find out things about Jax she didn't want to know, but she'd never be able to let it go now. It would haunt her until she had the answer. She was going to get to the truth.
"More than 100?" Ava asked. She held her breath waiting for his reply. It couldn't be more than 100, Ava thought trying to reassure herself. What kind of guy sleeps with that many women?
"Hundreds," Jax said deciding to put an end to the guessing game. "I've never lied to you about who I am. I've been with a lot of girls."
Jax wasn't jealous of the guys Ava had been with before him because they didn't know what the hell they were doing. She'd had no idea just how great sex was until he showed her. She'd been so sweet, shy and vulnerable with him.
It hit him then that maybe this was less about how many women he'd been with and more about her worrying that since he'd been with so many she was afraid she didn't measure up.
Jax walked over to her and took her by the shoulders.
"I've eaten thousands of burgers and fries. Don't remember a damned one of them. That's why I don't remember any of the women I've been with. They weren't memorable."
"What do you remember?"
"I remember a gun show in Austin I was at with the MC. After we went to this fancy steakhouse. Don't remember the bread or the side dishes, but I remember the steak. A perfect rare. Most places do it medium rare, but I like mine rare. On top of the steak was this big scoop of garlic butter. Never heard of putting butter on a steak. Best steak I've ever eaten. It's the only steak I remember and I've had plenty of them since. That's why I only remember you. No girl compares to you. You are the only one I care about," Jax said. He hadn't planned on that last sentence. It just sort of slipped out.
Ava was taken aback by his words. The expression in his eyes was soft and sweet. She felt like she was in the best scene from every Hallmark movie combined.
"That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me," Ava whispered.
"You didn't give me enough time to get Ima off me. I don't care about you throwing beer on Ima or that a little landed on me. No more throwing drinks on me. I will not put up with it. Am I clear?" He added sternly.
"Yes, Jax," Ava replied contritely. She felt guilty for not giving Jax a few more seconds to get the porn whore off his lap.
"Kiss," Jax said pointing at his lips.
Ava stood on tiptoe and gave Jax a light kiss on the lips.
"I am really sorry. I should have given you more time."
He bent his head to give Ava a long lingering kiss. He winced slightly from the pain just as he was getting started. She gently pulled away from him.
"I know you're in pain. Nurse Ava's back," she said with a big grin, "and it's time for your pain meds and sleeping pill."
Ava waited until Jax took his medication and was in bed before she grabbed her T-shirt nightgown and headed into the bathroom to take a shower.
Jax had been completely honest with Ava with one small exception. He could have gotten Ima off his lap before she saw, but he wanted to see her reaction. He sort of deserved her throwing beer on him, but he'd be damned if he ever admitted it.
While he waited for the sleeping pill to kick in, he picked up his phone checking his text messages and emails. Lowen had sent him an email. He wondered if she was going to try to convince him to drop the malpractice suit against her. There wasn't anything she had to say that he cared about and he was getting sleepy. He put his phone on the nightstand.
By the time Ava was finished in the bathroom, Jax was already asleep. She was always struck by how sweet and angelic he looked when he was sleeping especially with those long blonde eyelashes of his resting on his cheeks.
She settled into bed and turned on a Hallmark romance. After a few minutes, she looked again at Jax as he slept. He might be better than any of those Hallmark heroes. She decided to watch Trailer Park Boys instead.
Jax will come to regret not reading Lowen's email.
