A/N: This is just what came to mind when I tried to picture Samantha thinking of Darvey. Short ficlet, hope you enjoy! Reviews and suggestions for next p.o.v are always recommended :)
Samantha
Samantha was trying very hard not to roll her eyes at the scene unfolding in front of her.
Donna was laughing boisterously at something Harvey said, and he was grinning like the cat got the canary.
Alex had left all but fifteen minutes ago, and Samantha was weary of being the third wheel to Harvey and Donna.
It went without saying that Samantha had heard of the best closer in the city before. Of course she'd heard of Harvey Specter pre and post the fraud associate association to his career. He was a ruthless, suave, bachelor who could close multi million suits like they were nothing. Not to mention he and Zane had tangoed together one too many times for Samantha not to notice.
But it didn't go without saying that she'd heard of the mighty Donna Paulsen too. At first, it was a whisper of some lowly secretary that would always manage to talk her way to the most extravagant of favors. Then it was the same assistant that managed to owe you a favor that usually ended up being so successfully executed, you felt like you owed her three get out of jail free cards for doing what you asked.
Samantha always found it unbelievable that some random assistant had pulled one over the biggest lawyers and executives at Rand, Kaldor and Zane. It got Samantha curious after years of hearing about the great Donna Paulsen, so she dug around. And she found out she was the loyal assistant to Harvey Specter for over a decade. That she was recently turned into a COO at their firm after her years of loyal service, which didn't surprise Samantha one bit considering the power she wielded as an assistant. Not to mention, someone who could talk her way into Zane's begrudging goodside was clearly a force to be reckoned with. (Donna Paulsen was the only thing Zane would ever comment on as a good thing when he'd come back from the Pearson Specter Litt offices if he didn't go to see his daughter.) She learned that Donna's mysterious ways led to Cameron Dennis, one of the most successful D.A's to step down. That she'd landed herself in hot water multiple times, once for some memo mishap that Specter was involved in, and another with a plan gone awry and her lying about who she was to get evidence for the Liberty Rails case.
All in all, Samantha was weary of Donna Paulsen. She knew she could be a powerful ally and an even more powerful enemy in the most subtle of ways. When Samantha had finally met Donna, she was in awe. Well, that wasn't entirely accurate.
At first, Samantha was more than irked at the blockway to Samantha's ways that came in the form of a 5'8 redhead. Then she was mourning the loss of a potential hookup between the two of them because of her strict no dating coworkers rule that Samantha implemented for herself post affair with Kaldor. And Donna definitely made her rethink it. Then she was annoyed that Donna seemed to be a sore spot between her and Harvey till she finally connected the dots that these two were more than just colleagues. And finally, a sense of awe washed over Samantha as she saw Donna work in action to calm down Harvey and get him to play nicely with her. Ever since then, Samantha has been sold on Donna Paulsen.
But right now, Samantha was slightly annoyed by Donna. What was a promising night out between the foursome has quickly escalated into a twosome.
The twosome being Harvey and Donna. With Alex around, there was an amicable balance between the four of them. All of them laughing at Louis-centric anecdotes, and swapping war stories of their careers, over a table of food and drinks that never stopped coming.
After dinner was over, Alex excused himself to go home to his wife and kids, leaving Samantha with Donna and Harvey.
Samantha knew Harvey was fun, had been around him enough to see he had a sense of humor that was similar to hers. But Harvey around Donna, was another thing completely. He was much more at ease, much more willing to joke around and make comments, and Donna somehow had the magic touch to make the hardass lawyer's charming ways amplify.
Samantha idly wondered what would happen if Harvey saw her flirt with Donna, like she has been jokingly every once in a while. Then she thought back to his bark of possessiveness when she had just mentioned Donna's name in their first interaction. She snorted at the memory, then wickedly smiled to herself. Maybe she could have some fun tonight after all.
"Harvey shut it." Donna laughed, eyes wide in mock-seriousness with her cheeks flushed slightly from the alcohol. Harvey shrugged, clearly not intending to "I'm sure Sam here would love to know about all your acting endeavors, Donna."
"Oh I so would. Come on Paulsen, show me your reel." Samantha's eyes twinkled mischievously.
Donna's eyes narrowed at Samantha. "You're not seeing anything Wheeler."
"Why not, Harvey's seen it."
"Harvey's seen a lot of things he shouldn't have." Harvey's grin disappears and Samantha can't tell if it's her imagination that he stopped smiling altogether or if his glass of scotch was hiding it from her peripheral view.
"Oh it can't be that bad." Donna sighed at Samantha's insistence.
"Oh I wouldn't know about that." Harvey chuckled and Donna shoved his shoulder to shut him up.
Sam leaned over so she could place her hand teasingly over Donna's palm. "Bet you still look amazing in it." she purred and Donna flushed crimson red at her attention.
"Miss Wheeler, are you flirting with me?" From the corner of her eye, Sam saw Harvey's jaw clench as his eyebrows were raised slightly in surprise.
"Well what if I was?" Sam teased.
Donna leaned closer as she bit her lower lip in contemplation. Samantha felt her breath hitch as she wondered if maybe Donna was game after all, and if maybe she should be the exception to her rule on work and dating.
Harvey Schmarvey, screw setting the lovebirds up, Samantha deserved a little fun.
Donna's eyes seemed alluringly doe-like all of a sudden, as she fluttered her eyelashes at her. "Then I'd tell you I don't date the people I work with." Donna smirked at Samantha as she leaned away and Harvey chuckled at Donna's antics, but a look crossed his face that Sam wasn't sure she knew how to identify, but discomfort was evident on his face.
Sam narrowed her eyes as they darted from Donna to Harvey. "Who said anything about dating?"
Donna barked out a laugh in surprise, eyes widened in shock at Sam's audacity, while Harvey coughed into his drink. "Oh you're good. But not that good. I'm going to the bathroom, I'd ask you to join Sam, but I'm afraid you'd take that as a come on." Donna teased as she got up and left the table, leaving Sam fake pouting and Harvey staring down into his drink as if it was the most fascinating thing.
As soon as Donna was out of earshot, Samantha spoke up. "You know.. She's an amazing woman."
"She is." Harvey agreed after a beat he added, "Didn't know that was your type."
Sam knew he meant her bisexuality, but she couldn't let one slip, "A woman like that? Donna's everyone's type."
Harvey shook his head "You're going to inflate her ego."
"It's pretty big already."
Harvey snickered at that "True."
"Do you know if she's seeing anyone?" Harvey froze, seemingly shocked at the sudden very real turn of conversation that went from jokingly complimenting the red and flirting to actively pursuing her.
Harvey shook his head slowly, like he was suddenly underwater.
"Because someone is gonna snatch her up real soon. She's not the kind of woman who stays single for that long. I'm surprised she isn't married with kids already." Samantha's words were said almost omnisciently, her slightly tipsy mindset making her more dramatic as the night went on.
Harvey looked lost in thought at her dig. Before Sam could even begin to question the lawyer and probe him into confessing his feelings, Donna came back to the table in a flurry- red waves flying around as she plotted back into her seat. She caught one look at the slight tension between the two lawyers and rolled her eyes naturally, assuming she was the reason for the pent up tension.
"Okay, fine! It was a hair shampoo ad. They made me stand under the shower and act out like I was half turned on by soapy locks."
Samantha blinked in surprise at the out of left field response from Donna, before she burst out laughing at the mental image of a twenty-something Donna moaning for the camera as she sudded up.
"Oh my god please tell me you have the tape."
Donna shook her head as her lips curved around her margarita's straw, her eyes glancing at Harvey and before they could have one of their infamous silent conversations, Donna's concern and curiosity evident on her face, Harvey sent her a half-assed wry smile before taking his own sip of scotch.
"Mike has it." He mumbled into his drink which made Donna shriek in response.
"I'm gonna kill the both of you!"
"What's Mike's number, I need that texted to me asap." Sam stated half mockingly half seriously, as Donna tried snatching up the blonde's phone from her grasp.
The night went on with more teasing and drinks and Sam ended up having a good time without stirring up any more trouble for Harvey. But every once in a while, she'd still shoot him a knowing look whenever his eyes would stray away from Donna, letting him know that she was aware of what he might have been hiding, that Harvey Specter was in love with Donna Paulsen.
