A/N: This is a short ficlet of Donna and Harvey through Thomas's point of view after they're canon! It's a little brief but it came to me this morning so I figured I might as well post. Hope you enjoy a short and sweet quick read about Darvey :) Reviews and critique's are always welcome!
Thomas smiled tersely at his date, trying very hard to focus on her but finding his thoughts betraying him. He kept comparing his current date to Donna both mentally and literally. Whenever his mind would stray away slightly he'd blink and her blonde hair would turn red. He compared her love of football to a love of theatre. She'd mention her long hours at the hospital and automatically picture her working at a law firm. The girl he's with was no slouch in any department.
She was drop dead gorgeous, smart, had a noble and impressive career as director of operations at Mercy West Hospital, and was beguiling him with entertaining stories from her life, but… he couldn't get Donna out of his head. And he was trying. The breakup was still fresh in his mind.
They had dated a short time, a month or so, and he'd usually not think twice about a girl he'd barely been with, but Donna was different. He was in the process of falling for her. For one minute he thought his idea of Donna had gotten too powerful, because he ,quite literally, had conjured her across from him a little too well. He saw her, her red hair like a beacon to him as it cascaded down her shoulders, a stark contrast against a black wool turtleneck sweater she was wearing. He blinked twice in a row, trying to see how strong his hallucination was. She didn't even blur across his eyes. She wasn't a hallucination, she was real.
Thomas saw her raise her hand and for a second he wondered if she was waving at him. If this was going to be their big run in post break up. But then he saw him walk across to greet her with a quick peck on the cheek. He saw Donna's eyes flutter in response and a light pink hue dust her face. He wondered if she ever had that reaction from such a simple gesture he made. He highly doubted it. He saw Donna animatedly respond to something Harvey said which made Harvey double over laughing before grabbing her hand in his, swaying it gently before giving it a squeeze and guiding them to the bar where they apparently were going to have dinner.
Because it was just Thomas's luck to have them stay in his peripheral view as he was trying to move on from the debacle of Donna and Harvey's feelings for one another.
Donna looked incredibly relaxed and almost casual. Not casual enough to look out of place in such a high establishment place but more so comfortable, like she wasn't really trying or outdoing herself because this wasn't a special outing. She looked… content. Her turtleneck sweater was slightly oversized and paired with light denim jeans that were straight cut and flattered her body incredibly. Thomas had never seen her in jeans and looking at how her curves made such a simple outfit look salacious… Thomas swallowed down a gulp of water from his table and tried focusing his attention back to his date, when he realized she must've excused herself to go to the bathroom a while ago and he hadn't even realized. Shit. He was being a terrible date. He tried exhaling a deep breath and focusing his thoughts back on his current date, Angelica. But the minute he did his eyes went back to Donna's red hair like it was a siren call. He saw her hand rest comfortably on Harvey's knee, saw him lean his upper body closer to her as they kept talking, saw Donna's eyes drop down to his lips then bite her own, before bringing her gaze back up to Harvey's eyes and suddenly take a keen interest in whatever they were talking about. Soon enough, their food arrived and Thomas saw Donna had ordered a burger and fries, which was slightly odd because he never took her for a burger type of girl. Not at a place that was known for its steak dinners and over priced entrees. It seemed almost insulting to order a burger from a place that had a year long wait for reservations so people could try the wagu. But there Donna was, leisurely dipping a French fry into her side of ketchup, unassuming of the slight faux pas she had acted on. Thomas's eyes looked back at Harvey wondering if he was taken aback by Donna's actions but he wasn't. He looked slightly amused, stealing a fry from Donna's plate, while his eyes simply casually roamed about the restaurant taking in his surroundings. Thomas suddenly realized the reason he wasn't shocked was because he must've already known that Donna was that type of person.
Thomas never got to go past the first part of their dating experience. He never got to see Donna with her hair fully let down and relaxed from him. Thomas got 'trying to be effervescent and mysterious' Donna. The Donna who'd put on a nice gown dress and order something date appropriate, the Donna who'd casually sleep in pajama sets that matched always, who always had something witty and quick to say. The Donna Harvey knew spoke leisurely, with random spurts of silence they both seemed to enjoy, she wore jeans because she didn't feel like dressing up, and ordered what she was truly in the mood for. The Donna that Thomas was now spying on just actually snorted into her cup of wine before shoving Harvey jokingly away. In almost two months of dating Thomas never heard her laugh so genuinely. He wondered to himself if they'd have ever reached that point or if her and Harvey were just different from them. Maybe he would've gotten to meet a more relaxed version of Donna with a few more months of dating, but to Thomas, it spoke volumes that Harvey got to date this version of Donna barely two weeks into their relationship. They were inevitable from the beginning, and Thomas could now see that.
Right on cue, his date finally showed up again from the bathroom, looking slightly disinterested herself with a polite smile on her face to hide her true feelings.
"I'm so sorry Angelica, I've been a terrible date so far. I can't believe you didn't just jump out of the bathroom window and ditch me."
Angelica let out a surprised chuckle at his remark, her eye's going slightly wide as her eyebrows rose on her face, her teeth blaring out behind her red stained lips.
'Believe me I was about to, but these heels would've made it hard to stick the landing.' Thomas laughed at her remark.
"Can we start over? I really do think I can give you a better time than this."
Angelica smiled at him in reply and nodded shyly, about to sit down and take her seat when Thomas got up abruptly and placed his hand out for her.
"If you don't mind, I'm thinking a change of venue is needed before we hit rewind on this date."
"Ooh spontaneous, I like it. Where are we going?"
Thomas smirked at her before casting one last glance at Donna and Harvey's way.
"How do you feel about burgers?" Thomas asked as he helped Angelica put on her coat, turning his back on the view of Donna and Harvey and positioning himself behind Angelica's body, letting his hand stray on her shoulder for a nanosecond as he helped rearrange her hair so it wasn't stuck in her coat's collar.
Angelica angled her head slightly so her words came out a breath away from Thomas's ear. "Make it pizza and you've got yourself a deal." Thomas grinned victoriously at her reply.
She couldn't have been more perfect, and he was going to try and keep her in his view for a while.
