Harry Potter had been having a rough time of it lately. He had recently contributed to Gryffindor losing 150 house points in one evening.
His roommates, classmates, students in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and even his Gryffindor Quidditch teammates had turned against him, largely by giving him the silent treatment.
Only Neville and Hermione, who were in the same boat themselves from also contributing to losing those 150 house points, stood by Harry.
The Gryffindor Quidditch team was practicing, and Katie, Angelina, and Alicia were practicing passing the quaffle to each other while Harry was practicing his seeking.
One time, as she sped past Harry on her broom, Angelina remarked snidely with a snarly look on her face, "Stay out of our way, Seeker."
'TIMEOUT!" roared Oliver Wood at once, "Everyone gather in the center circle."
Fred and George, who had been sitting on the sidelines at this time, went to join Harry, Oliver, Angelina, Alicia, and Katie in the center circle.
"That's enough, " said Oliver firmly, glaring at Angelina, "I've noticed that you lot have been very cold towards Harry ever since he lost those house points. All five of you have given him the silent treatment and have consistently shot dirty and nasty looks at him. And you're dehumanizing him by calling him "Seeker" instead of Harry. That's NOT okay."
There was a minute and a nanosecond of uncomfortable silence and Oliver then gave hard sharp looks to the team.
"So, " said Oliver steely, "Once Harry wins two Quidditch matches for you, he's your hero and you love him, but, when he loses house points, you turn on him, turn cold towards him and dehumanize him?" That's absolutely wrong on every level. You have been terrible teammates and I am ashamed of all of you."
Fred, George, Angelina, Alicia, and Katie suddenly had stunned looks come across their faces.
"That's not how it's supposed to be, " said Oliver firmly, "A team is supposed to stick together through thick and thin and support each other through good times and bad. Good teammates love each other and support each other unconditionally. Good teammates don't turn on each other over petty stuff like house points."
Fred, George, Angelina, Alicia, and Katie were frozen still now as the impact of Oliver's words hit them.
"I'm giving you all an ultimatum, " said Oliver in a no nonsense voice, "Either you treat each other, Harry included, like human beings and with respect and stand by each other, or I will remove you from this team. Effective immediately, I expect you to start treating Harry like you've been treating each other, stop throwing him dirty looks, actually talk to him and support him, and call him by his name not a title."
At this point, Alicia actually had a few tears her eyes as she realized the truth in Oliver's words.
Alicia now walked up to Harry and said sincerely and genuinely, "Harry, I would like to apologize for the way I have been shunning you and mistreating you. Oliver is right. We haven't been acting like a team at all. We were caring about you only when and because you were useful to us and not as a person. That has to change. "
"That's actually what Oliver was getting at, " said Angelina somberly, "Teammates are cold hearted if they only care about their teammates as players and tools and not as people and we've been very cold hearted. I too would like to apologize for my behavior and attitude towards you."
"We've been the worst people we can possibly be to you, " Katie admitted to Harry, "We loved you through thick and turned on you through thin. Forget "Fairweather fans" we were fairweather teammates and fairweather friends and that's indefensible. I too would like to apologize for contributing to making your life hell."
"Our apologies as well, " chroused Fred and George.
"This will go down as a low point for us, " admitted George.
"Mom and dad will be ashamed of us when she finds out how we've treated Harry since the night he lost those house points, and rightfully so, " acknowledged Fred.
Harry stepped forward and said, "I accept all of your apologies and I'm willing to give you all a second chance. But most of all, thank you Oliver. Thank you for standing up and taking a stand for me. I appreciate how you vouched for me tonight."
"No problem, Harry, " said Oliver clearly, "It's part of my responsibility as captain to manage team dynamics and to interject myself if I see something amiss. The way you were being treated by your teammates was NOT okay and it needed to be brought to their attention that it was NOT okay. I'll always have your back Harry."
"Thank you, Oliver, " said Harry sincerely.
"Now, " said Oliver, "Let's resume practice."
And the practice resumed with Harry being treated the same as everyone else by his teammates and actually being called "Harry" again.
Oliver's message had been successful.
