According to Charlie Weasley's page on Harry Potter Wiki, the wand that Ron used his first two years was in fact Charlie's first wand. However, this wand clearly had seen better days by the time Ron used it as the unicorn hair core was described in canon as "poking out". I'll be the first to admit I'm not a Ron fan, but, the same year Ron started, Molly bought Percy an owl. Clearly, Ron needed a proper wand more than Percy needed an owl. But, Percy was always Molly's favorite of her children so...

A/N: This one is less something that should have happened in cannon and more of a missing moment. This chapter is Fred's sorting. As I believe the Weasley Twins could have reasonably been any of the four houses, I don't have an opinion on what house they should be in. This is just a brief exploration of Fred's character.

It was Friday, September 1st, 1989, and Fred Weasley had just put on the Sorting Hat.

"Hmmm, " said the Sorting Hat in Fred's head, "Looks like I've got a tough call on my hands. You could legitimately be any of the four houses."

"Ah, so I'm a jack of all trades?" thought Fred.

"Perhaps a master of all trades, " said the Sorting Hat, "You are definitely loyal. You'll stand by your friends thick and thin. You would take a bullet, a spell, even a bomb for a family member or friend if it came to it. You would never betray or turn against your family or friends. In Hufflepuff, your loyalty would be recognized, and you'd make some great friends. "

There were a short pause and then the Sorting Hat continued, "You are certainly ambitious enough for the house of the snakes. You have a goal of founding, owning, and operating your own business and you'd be willing to work to exhaustion to make that happen. "

"Too bad mom doesn't realize the value in that, " thought Fred quietly, "Well George and I will show mom. We will PROVE to her that our joke shop is a clever idea with the success we will have with it."

"This thirst to prove yourself is a Slytherin trait, " replied the Sorting Hat, "But another quality you possess is very Ravenclawish: Your intelligence, creativity, and ability are everything I seek in an eagle."

"George and I love using our imaginations almost as much as mom loves Percy, " thought Fred.

"That imagination is what will allow you to create new items and pull clever pranks, " responded the Sorting Hat, "Creativity, imagination, and thinking outside is true intelligence. You don't seem very academic minded."

"The academic subjects George and I are most interested in are Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Defense Against the Dark Arts is very important because the of the need to be able to defend oneself. Charms is the fundamental subject of magic and allows for creativity. But, no, I can't see myself getting a dozen O.W.L.s." admitted Fred.

"And that's okay, " the Sorting Hat assured him, "Ravenclaw is often associated with academics because of its reputation for intelligence. Many times, people wonder why some extremely high achieving academic students who are academic minded aren't in Ravenclaw. But many of those types are simply people who succeed in their studies by being exceptionally talented at reading and remembering. "

"But then?" questioned Fred, "Reading and remembering isn't true intelligence, is it?"

"It is not, " confirmed the Sorting Hat, "True intelligence comes from creativity, imagination, thinking outside the box, and challenging existing knowledge and ways of doing things in the hopes of discovering better ways of doing them. You fit that bill. But there's one more house to consider."

That being Gryffindor," realized Fred, "I wish I was braver."

"If you were any braver you would be a lion, " the Sorting Hat told him fiercely, "You have courage in small, medium, and large doses. You can face and chase Bludgers without fear, that's bravery on a small scale. You intend to test your own new inventions on yourself without a second thought of any potential dangers., that's bravery on a medium scale. And, if the situation should arise, should it prove necessary, you would fight in a war to protect those you care about without any hesitation no matter the potential consequences., that's bravery on a large scale."

"So," pondered Fred, "I could be a badger, a snake, an eagle, or a lion?"

"There is no wrong choice here, any choice I make with you would be right, " declared the Sorting Hat, "Any house will help you on the way to greatness there's no doubt about that. Ultimately, since you possess traits of all four houses and do so with flying colors, I will allow to carry on you family's legacy as a "GRYFFINDOR!"
