The next morning, Rosalinn was thankful for the care Billy had taken with her after their night time engagement. She figured she would have been more uncomfortable than she actually was. She smiled as she reminisced his kiss, his touch, the iway/i he iheld/i her. It was nice to know that she had someone like that to come back home to.
Home. Home was Megaton, now; not vault 101.
A knot formed in her stomach as she realized that Chloe and Amata were still there, under the Overseer's thumb, sheltered and unable to feel what she felt after leaving - freedom. Then there was Butch; she knew he must feel more alone because her Dad was gone; James being the only adult Butch trusted. Perhaps it was worse still, because she was gone, too.
The way Rosalinn's heart thudded when he had touched her as he pushed her into his closet - he was so close to her. Close enough that she could smell leather, cologne, pomade, ihim/i. Rosalinn knew exactly what it was that she had felt, but there was no way to know if he felt the same way. He sure seemed to soften towards her in the latter years, and that had given her hope.
She wondered how he was now.
Who would patch his dumb ass up?
Chloe, probably. She was the only other one that cared enough to, or had any know how.
Her thoughts wandered, images of Butch playing out in her mind. Him conscientiously combing his hair as his blue eyes looked in the mirror, scanning his style for any fly away hairs that would ruin his image; or the snarl he did when he was agitated where his canines would show, or his jacket slung over the back of a chair as he sat in his white t-shirt that was just tight enough, with his vault suit tied around his waist by the arms, his Adams apple bobbing as he chugged a Nuka.
And, like so often since leaving the vault; the guilt and the loneliness were working their way in again. She missed him so damned much it was hurting.
The woman shook her head to drive away the thoughts. No, not today. Not ever again if she could help it. This ramshackle town was more comfortable to her than 101 had ever been; and, funnily enough, she felt safer here. She could be herself, someone she had been afraid to be underground. In Megaton, she was accepted - hell, people iliked/i her here.
And today was special; she was going to get one step closer to finding her father.
Rosalinn got up from her couch, grinning at Dogmeat wagging his tail.
"Aw, you know we're adventuring today, don't you, boy?" she said as she leaned to give the pooch a scratch between his ears.
Of course he knew.
Rosalinn had the same routine on mornings they were leaving Megaton. She'd get up early, to the sound of her pip's alarm, feed and water Dogmeat, and then herself. Then she would bathe them both because she knew it would be a while before she could again. Then, as dawn broke, she'd chat with Alias for a while, go over the plan with them and make sure some safety nets were in place by way of caches and drops. The night before would be spent meticulously packing so neither her nor her pooch went without on their journey.
Liking to plan ahead, she had her route mapped out already, having spent a few nights hunched over her desk, poring over a map and figuring the best way to go to avoid the most danger.
With a little of Alias' help, figured it best to go east of the Super Duper Mart to a metro station called Farragut West; then come out throw Tenleytown/Friendship Metro. Apparently there was graffiti indicating directions after that, leading through more Metro lines to the Tenleytown area of Chevy Chase, and then on through some of the Metropolitan ruins. Alias had warned her that there was an abundant amount of feral ghouls and mutants, but Rosalinn preferred the metro tunnels to open ground. Overall, she preferred higher ground, so she could take things out before they could see her; but that wasn't going to happen this trip. Too many ruins, too many places for hostiles to conceal themselves.
After she double checked her pack, and Dogmeat's little saddlebags, she closed her storage locker doors and turned to look at Wadsworth.
"Alright, Wads, we're heading out for a while now."
"I gathered. When will you return, do you think?"
Rosalinn thought a moment before answering.
"If I don't suffer any large scale injuries, I'd say a week or less. But I kitted you out with those add-ons Alias gave me, so I can stay in touch, okay?"
"Of course. Do be careful out there, and stay safe."
Rosalinn nodded and gave the robot a pat.
"Haha, well I can't find my dad if I'm dead, can I?"
The robot almost seemed to cringe at her dark humor.
"No, indeed, you cannot. Goodbye, Miss."
"Rosie."
"Right. I will get used to it one of these days."
The woman gave a small chuckle.
"See you soon, Wadsworth."
After she walked out, and heard him lock the door, Rosalinn looked to the sky. She had no idea what was going to happen this trip, but she was sure it would be informative, at least. From listening to the radio every night for a while, just to learn about the DJ, Rosalinn had gathered he was charismatic and seemed to be as kind as they came. She felt a lick on her hand, and saw Dogmeat wagging his tail hard enough his back end was moving too. After a pat she chuckled.
"Alright, boy, let's go."
Just as she started around the corner of her house, she heard someone shout her name.
"Rosie! Hey, sweetheart! Y' weren't gonna leave without sayin' good-bye, were ya?"
Rosalinn turned around, looking surprised, but she smiled softly realizing who was calling for her.
"Well, I didn't iwant/i to leave without seeing you; but I thought you might be busy with Maggie, so I didn't want to bother you."
Billy tugged his hat off and ran a hand through his hair.
"Ahh, I see. Well, lemme tell you one very important thing; and that is that I highly doubt you will ever be a bother to me; not unless y' did somethin' ireal/i off-colour. I would have missed ya more, so I'm glad I caught ya." He said as he pulled his hat back on and put his arms around her. She easily sunk into his embrace and closed her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his middle.
"I'll miss you too, Billy. Thank you for last night - it was amazing."
He pulled back and thumbed her cheek, a warm smile on his face.
"Rosie, you were a dream to me, last night. I've never felt so good, so ialive./i" His cheeks slightly tinged at remembering, and that of course made Rosalinn follow suit.
"But, girl," he continued, sounding serious and gripping her shoulders in his hands.
"You better come back to me in one piece. I want that dream to be a recurring one."
i Come back...to him? /i Her heart fluttered.
Rosalinn smiled in a way she never had before, catching Billy off guard. God damn, this woman was...something else.
"I will. I might have another scar or two, but I will." She gently touched his cheek, running her thumb down his cheekbone and across his lips. Billy's breath hitched as she touched him, and in the next moment her lips were on his as her pack slowly slid down her arm and into her hand, then onto the ground as she wrapped her arms tightly around him. One of Billy's arms was around her waist, encircling her and the other was up her back, his hand in her hair.
"I hope you feel me holdin' you like this every night out there, darlin - until you come back for more." He whispered into her hair and her ear.
She kissed his cheek and nodded, then grinned cheekily.
"Between you and me, that hug and kiss will do me just fine, until the next time iyou/i do." She whispered to his lips before winking, picking up her pack and turning to leave.
Billy stood, awestruck, another uncontrollable smile crossing his features.
Did she really just say that?
He watched her chuckle as she walked away, until he felt a tug on his arm.
He looked down and saw Maggie standing there.
"You okay, Billy?"
"Yeah, yeah kiddo, I'm just fine. Just a bit struck I guess."
"Did Rosie hit you?" asked the confused child.
"No, no, Rosie didn't hit me, haha, and I doubt she would never. She's just changin', and it's a good thing. Finally relaxin' a bit, an' she ought to."
Maggie was silent for a time.
"Billy, do you love her?"
Well that was unexpected. Was he such an open book that even a kid could read him, or was she just perceptive? Probably the latter.
It was Billy's turn to be silent, the night before coming up in his memories. Her soft skin, her bright eyes and her soft, silky dark hair; the flush on her face and chest, the noises she made and her whispers in his ear. He shivered and swallowed as he followed the ramp to watch her greet Sheriff Simms, and then as she disappeared past the gates.
"Yeah, sweetheart. I think I do."
Maggie sounded excited in her next query.
"Are you gonna marry her?"
He looked down, almost choking on himself.
"Well, I'd love to, but-." He stopped himself. Yes, Rosalinn had opened up to him and her to her, but they didn't know near enough about each other to make that kind of decision. It also hadn't been long enough. The question came from one so young that things were still that simple; Billy only wished that were the way it actually was.
"But what?"
"But we need to be together a lot longer before that happens. Get t' know each other more."
i And I don't think she would, anyways. She belongs to the wastes, now, and the freedom it gives her; because she spent far too much damned time in the hole in the ground. A woman like her can't be tamed and God help anyone who tries. /i
A series of clicks accompanied by the sound of boots hitting metal resounded off of the walls of the last stretch of metro tunnels leading to the Tenleytown section of Chevy Chase. Rosalinn and Dogmeat had managed to miss out getting shot or hurt while in the tunnels, with the exception of a small graze on her right bicep from a bullet. She never hated assault rifles more than she did after traipsing through these metro tunnels. Thank fuck she knew the route by heart, otherwise she would have wasted time backtracking from going the wrong way, and only after killing more than she needed to.
As Rosalinn made the last turn, she saw light. Her heart soared and she ran for it, Dogmeat barking happily. Upon reaching the metal gates, she saw a set of dead escalators through the bars. The gates were locked, and judging by the lock being rusted shut, there was no way she would get through it.
"Guess we're going through the janitors room, boy." She muttered to Dogmeat.
When she was finally outside, she took a breath of air, happy to be breathing in something fresher than the musty, dank air she had been all day. Judging by the sun, it was about three or four pm, so there was more than enough time to get to GNR - perhaps she would even be able to spend the night there. Give her and Dogmeat some time to rest.
Rosalinn listened keenly for noises indicating people being around, but when she heard nothing of concern, she stood and looked around. No living creature could be seen, and that made her uneasy. She crept away from the safety of the station and through the rubble, edging towards a corner. She was so invested in watching and listening, that the crackle of Alias turning on their mic startled her.
"Jesus, Alias!"
"Ohh, sorry, Cutie, did I scare you?" came the distorted, yet amused voice.
"Yes, you did! I was focusing and you were a sudden noise."
"Well, first off, glad to see you. Second, super sorry for the scare - I'll drop you the .308's one of my bots scavenged at some point, to apologize, okay? Third, damn, sweetie, you had poor Billy tongue-tied! Nicely done! I mean I'm a lil' jealous, but the amusement was great so I'll let that one slide. And lastly, you won't be alone for long. There's some movement up ahead, in the ruins near you. Be careful."
"Thanks, Ali - and you're welcome. What took you so long to contact me? I left Megaton hours ago."
"Oh, yeah, sorry about that - I switched bases. Took me a bit to set up. Found a more central location with a better signal."
"Oh, okay. So long as you're okay."
"Aww, you were worried!"
"...entering hot zone - going radio silent."
"Roger, Hot Stuff. Good luck." A chuckle sounded from Alias as the Wanderer grumbled.
"Thanks. Over and out."
Rosalinn took a deep breath, and a moment to center herself before continuing forward, making sure Dogmeat was close by. She moved quickly, darting into whatever growing shadows she could to remain unnoticed. She stopped near a Pulowski shelter and peeked around at the ruins nearby.
Mutants. A handful. That could be an issue if they had launchers, but it was a risk she would have to take. She tugged a grenade from her pocket and looked for the best place to throw it. Two of the mutants were close by to the right of the ruins, while one was on the left, close to the alley way she needed to get into.
Throwing right would be the better way to go. She opened the shelter, cringing at the noise, then ducked inside, pressing Dogmeat in between her and the wall. Then, taking one more confirming glance at the two mutants, She tugged the pin out of the grenade with her teeth, and threw it out. When it blew, it thankfully did some damage to their legs so it would slow them down enough for her to get in some well-aimed shots. In the meantime, the mutant to the left was already looking for her. She pulled out her sniper rifle and aimed for its skull, missing the first time and hitting the wall behind it, but the next hit was true and splattered the same wall with blood as it dropped to the ground. She stuck her head out a little to look at the mutants that had taken the grenade damage. One was trying to make its way towards her, but the other was nowhere to be seen.
Where was it?
Suddenly, Dogmeat was barking angrily and Rosalinn turned to look behind her and up, and there was the missing mutant; a sledgehammer poised and already coming down. Rosalinn rolled out of the way just in time, pulling the dog with her as she moved. The hammer hit the inside of the shelter with a loud clang, and the mutant turned and growled at her.
"Gonna get you, stupid lady!"
Rosalinn snickered and shot it's arm, making it drop the sledgehammer, as Dogmeat ran for the other mutant that was desperately trying to shoot her with its hunting rifle. The 'stupid lady' comments always made her laugh. She shot it again, catching it in the neck. In just moments, it was down, and now all she had to do was kill the third that was yelling in pain and violently shaking it's leg to rid itself of her dog. She grabbed the hammer from its deceased previous owner and ran forward. As the mutant was distracted, she cracked it in the back of the other leg, and down it went. Dogmeat went for its throat and finished it off himself.
"Good boy." She praised, patting him as she panted.
Rosalinn scanned the area as she moved around the ruins, and as she had correctly surmised earlier, there was definitely movement down below indicating another mutant. She tugged the pin from another grenade and lobbed it down as she ushered Dogmeat forward. She gave them no time to see if it was dead, because she was too busy diving into the alleyway to care.
Once around the side of a dumpster, the woman dropped down and pulled Dogmeat close.
"Hey, boy, you okay?" She asked, checking the animal over for injury.
"Can't have my best boy getting hurt, can I?" She asked with a small smile, satisfied when she saw nothing on him.
After taking a few moments to re-hydrate both herself and Dogmeat, Rosalinn stood and peeked behind them to make sure the other mutant hadn't followed.
iNothing there - good./i
She was set to move on when gunshots could be heard from around the corner in front of them.
iFucking hell...is nothing ever easy? Well, still better than the vault./i
Moving them forward as carefully as she could, she took a look around the corner and was met with the sight of what looked like giant suits of armor shooting at mutants.
iWhat the hell...robots? No, they sound like humans - the metal they're wearing must be the power armour I saw in the Overseer's journal entries; and by the sounds of it, they are in a bit of a bind. Maybe I can use the situation to my advantage. I'll take it./i
She straightened up and walked towards them, looking as though she wanted to get past.
A blonde woman turned and aimed at her, but lowered her gun as soon as she saw Rosalinn wasn't an enemy.
"You shouldn't be here - this is no place for civilians."
Rosalinn looked at her, her face neutral.
"I have to get to GNR. I have business there."
The blonde sighed and shook her head.
"Suit yourself; you can follow us if you like. Just don't get in the way."
"Fine by me. Is everyone out here like you?"
"What's that supposed to mean? I have a job to do and most civilians get in the way of that. It gets frustrating, to say the least."
"Understood - but I have reasons for being out here; so I won't muck up your plans if you don't muck up mine."
Rosalinn's eyes were icy as she stared at the armored woman.
The blonde was about to retort, but instead she nodded and put up an hand, surrendering in apology.
"Sentinel Sara Lyons, Brotherhood of Steel, Lyons Pride. Sorry for the temper - we've had it rough today. We're trying to get to the GNR Plaza to assist some of our Brothers that are stationed there to defend the place, so any assist you can provide is helpful."
Rosalinn nodded.
"Rosalinn Lawrence. Pleasure."
She walked ahead and moved to the side to hide behind rubble; then aimed at a mutant with an assault rifle, the noise aggravating her ears after hearing so much of it already. In a couple of shots, the mutant was down. In another couple of shots, another was down. One more shot and a third. The woman stood and wordlessly slung her rifle across her back to get it out of her way as she walked.
The Steel members were doling out their own damage, but they weren't ignoring the woman's shot. She still needed some work, but she was pretty good.
Soon enough, the Lyons Pride, plus Rosalinn and Dogmeat, had made their way through the ruins of the elementary school that stood between them and GNR, incapacitating or killing the mutants within. They had managed to avoid injury, which Sara was thankful for; they didn't need to lose anyone else.
As they walked through the double doors, Rosalinn looked up at the building in front of them. This was it - Galaxy News Radio. This was where she would finally be able to continue searching for her father. She reached down and patted Dogmeat.
"Just a few more steps, buddy, and we can find out what we're doing next."
iCrackrumble/i
The earth shook.
Rosalinn frowned.
"Earthquake?"
Sentinel Lyons looked confused.
"No, we don't get those mu-"
iCrackrumble/i
"Holy shit!" Exclaimed one of the paladins, and he pointed.
"That's a Behemoth!"
Sara stared and Rosalinn gaped.
"For fuck sakes." They uttered simultaneously, then looked at each other.
"Ever fought one?" queried Sara, as she readied her rifle.
"Nope. Never seen one this big before." Rosalinn said as she reloaded her own firearm.
"Good luck."
"Thanks - you too." retorted the raven haired Wanderer as she ran for a spot to hide so she could aim undeterred.
Almost immediately, the gargantuan creature downed one of the Steel members as it swung its weapon, seemingly a sledge hammer made from a fire hydrant and rebar. One hit with that, and it would be curtains, judging by the Brother and his lack of movement. She shot when she saw an opening. Neck, back of the knees, temple, even; nothing was coming close to breaking it down - it wasn't even acknowledging her hits.
Rosalinn shook her head and pulled her rifle to her back, then began to search for another way. She scanned the bodies on the ground, looking for something stronger. Laser rifle, plasma pistol, laser pistol, plasma rifle, laser rifle - wait.
What was that big launcher for?
Rosalinn looked up to the behemoth. It's back was to her, and the launcher was behind it as well. She took her chance and darted across the open battleground, slid down beside the launcher and grabbed it. It was heavy, but not so much that she couldn't lift it. There was a large crate a few feet away, and she could only assume it was the ammunition. She moved for it, barely dodging as the monster took a step back, and made it to the crate with the launcher on one shoulder. She opened the crate and her eyes nearly bugged out of her head.
The crate had seven or eight miniature nuclear bombs.
Rosalinn stared for only a moment before picking one up and loading it into the launcher, coming to the conclusion that pre-war folk were nuts. When a 'click' was heard, she aimed at the back of the skull of their current foe. Rosalinn toed the crate of nukes away and moved back several feet as she waved to catch Sara's attention.
"Get it to move forward, otherwise it'll be too close to me and the other nukes!" She hollered. Sara looked at her, her eyes widening as well, but with a lack of a better plan, she had no issues doing as she was told. Still shooting, the Sentinel started moving backwards, her Pride doing the same.
As soon as the mutant was far enough away from where Rosalinn had set up, she rested the large launcher on some rubble and her shoulder, hoping that the position would help repress some of the kick back that was sure to happen.
Sentinel Lyons watched the woman set up the launcher and gritted her teeth.
This woman was different. She'd never seen a civilian adapt to a fight like this before.
iShe has the devil in her heels, and anger in her heart/i A saying that she heard her father use to describe her mother's tenacity came to mind all of a sudden.
She watch the woman aim the fat man as best as she could. Sara held her hand up to halt her Brothers from shooting.
Rosalinn nodded, Sara nodded back.
And Rosalinn pulled the trigger.
Many things happened at once.
Rosalinn heard a great crack somewhere in or around her body, and in seconds a flash of white light had her blinded.
Dogmeat was barking incessantly, and tugging at the sleeve of her jacket, licking her face. She could also hear Alias faintly, begging her to move.
Her head was killing her from the noise, and more gunfire resounded in her ears. After what seemed like ages, she opened her eyes to see Sentinel Lyons above her.
"Hey, hey, open your eyes! Are you okay?" She asked, breathless from battle.
Rosalinn lifted her head.
"I think so." She looked behind the sentinel and stared. The behemoth was on the ground.
"Did - did I do that?"
Sara looked behind her to the dead mutant, and then back at Rosalinn.
"Sort of. Your shot weakened it, but it took a bit more to kill it. That nuke definitely helped - blew the back of its neck and shoulders off. Little higher, and you might have killed it."
"Then you guys must have taken it down pretty quick."
The blonde reached down and pulled a couple of rocks off of Rosalinn's legs and torso.
"Mmm, you were out for about twenty minutes. I thought you were a goner."
Rosalinn shifted her right arm to move, but when she shifted her left arm, she had to grit her teeth in order not to scream.
"Hey, wait a second, don't move. We'll get you out. That launcher knocked your shoulder out, and the force knocked you back enough to hit your head." Another Paladin came into view behind Sara.
"We got a casualty, Sentinel?"
"No Kodiak, she's alive, but I could use some help getting her into the radio station. She needs medical attention for sure."
Rosalinn internally chastised herself and pushed herself into a sitting position with her good arm, folding the injured one against her body. She hissed in pain as she tucked her legs underneath her and stood.
Sara stood as well, crossing her arms.
"You're pretty stubborn, huh? Look, there's no shame in accepting help, you know. And we don't give it out much."
Shaking her head, Rosalinn stepped forward, catching herself on a large chunk of building before stumbling.
"I don't have anything to give you."
The Sentinel and Paladin exchanged looks.
"Look, Ms. Lawrence, you helped us a great deal today." She looked back at the previously fallen Brother, who was being lifted onto a stretcher by other Steel brothers, and sighed.
"We lost Reddin, and others; but we would have lost more, I think, if you hadn't have shot that nuke. Let us pay you back by making sure you get back on your feet properly, okay?"
Rosalinn watched her as she spoke, looking somewhat surprised.
"I think I can manage, really - WHOA!" She yelped as Paladin Kodiak plucked her off of her feet.
Sentinel Lyons grinned.
"I was hoping you'd do that." she said, sounding amused. The same degree mirth also came through loud and clear from Rosalinn's 'friend' on the other end of her comms.
A chuckle resounded from inside the helmet.
"Yeah, well, I know you lack the patience to argue with someone, so I thought I'd save you the trouble."
Rosalinn squirmed in Kodiak's grip to be back on her feet, but he held her tightly.
"Please, please put me down." She begged quietly, being reminded of Billy carrying her back to her home in Megaton after her first time being attended to by with Doc Church.
"Nope. You can't even stand proper, so we're not waiting for you to hobble on in. Besides, if you that much of a glutton for punishment, what we're going to have to do to your shoulder will be plenty enough to satisfy." Kodiak chuckled as her face paled, while Sara let out a louder laugh.
Once inside the station, the first thing Rosalinn noticed was how fortified it was. This radio station must mean a lot if these guys were guarding it. They went up a set of stairs, through a door way, and just as they were going to go up another set, a familiar voice greeted them.
"Well how about that, y'all brought Three Dog a friend! She looks a bit banged up, though."
Sara nodded.
"She did us a solid out there, and we were hoping to put her up here for a while to let her heal."
The radio host nodded.
"Yeah, of course! If she helped you and the Pride, then she's already our sister." He looked at Rosalinn.
"What's your name, girl, and what brings you into DC?"
"Rosalinn Lawrence, and I'm here to ask you about my father."
Three Dog was silent for a moment.
"No fuckin' iway/i!" He exclaimed, looking at her over his sunglasses.
"Well, welcome to Galaxy News Radio! You came a long way, sister, an' I can help. First, though, get yourself seen to, and then we'll talk. Sound good?"
Feeling tired suddenly, Rosalinn agreed.
"You can put me down now. Please."
Kodiak put her on her feet and gave her good shoulder a pat.
"I'm the closest thing to a medic, so go get yourself set up in that room over there, and I'll be back with some medical supplies shortly."
Nodding, the girl followed the direction the Paladin had pointed in and headed in, Dogmeat following closed behind.
The Sentinel watched her go, and when she was out of ear shot, Sara looked at Three Dog.
"Sorry about your room."
"Naaahhh you know I don't mind, Sentinel."
"So the guy from the vault - that's his daughter?"
"Seems so. They share a surname and she's in a vault suit with a pip on her arm." Three Dog played with his goatee thoughtfully as he watched his door close.
"I wonder what her story is?" mused the radio show host. "She got a lot of scars for someone who's only been above ground for a few months."
"Who knows. I'm going to go get some shut-eye. Haven't slept in a couple days. Kodiak, get our new friend cleaned up and get some rest yourself. We've got work to do tomorrow."
"Roger, Sentinel."
In the meantime, Rosalinn was sitting on the bed, her head resting on the wall, staring at the ceiling when a beep sounded from her pip.
iHey, are you okay? Can we talk?"/i
Rosalinn pressed a button on her ear piece to open the line.
"Hey, Alias." She said, her voice rough from exhaustion.
"Hey, you! You scared me half to death, you know."
"Sorry, you know I never mean to."
"Yeah, and you have to do what you have to do. I get it. What's your condition?"
Rosalinn looked herself over and sighed.
"Scratches on my leg;, bump on the back of my head, but no broken skin; and my left shoulder is out of place. Other than that and being tired as hell, I'm okay."
"Ohh, well good to hear its nothing permanent. The shoulder thing is gonna suck, though."
Rosalinn could hear Kodiak's voice as he approached the bedroom.
"I have to go offline. Medic."
"Sure thing. Take care, Hot Stuff. Get some sleep, and we'll talk in the morning, okay?"
"Yeah, sure. Goodnight, Alias."
"Night, Cutie!"
The techie watched via heat signatures as Rosalinn was tended to, and listened to the conversation between Rosalinn and the Paladin. As Rosalinn's shoulder was quickly snapped back into place, Alias cringed and gave a silent round of applause to Rosalinn for not screaming like a banshee. Looking up at the screens that were showing the outside of GNR, Alias studied the dead Behemoth before sticking up a middle finger at it.
"Son of a bitch." came a mutter before Alias eventually sat back in their chair.
Once it seemed as though Rosalinn was asleep, Alias turned the volume down and laid back to get some rest as well to be ready for another day in the Wastes.
Kodiak came downstairs to his crew drinking some water and grabbing a bite to eat.
Sara looked up when he raised his eyebrow, having taken his helmet off to see better.
"I couldn't sleep. How's the patient?"
"She's asleep now. Not concerned about recovery. Gave her a stimpack and some med-x after I dealt with her shoulder."
Sara looked surprised.
"You already did it? I didn't hear anything."
Kodiak laughed, the sound seeming almost nervous.
"Yeah, neither did I."
"Strange girl."
"Yeah. Goodnight, Sentinel."
"Goodnight, Kodiak."
