The morning of September 1, 1939 started out as any other year before that. Cardia was getting ready to head to Kings Cross station to head to Hogwarts for her second year. Her father had strengthen the wards around the estate after Grindleward visited a few weeks back. Issac had taken her aside the next morning and explained who the man was that had visited.
Gellert Grindleward believed in the 'For The Greater Good' of the wizarding world. That those who followed him where many pure-bloods that thought they should be above the muggles; That they shouldn't have to hide from those who don't possess magic. Grindleward was trying to bring about a new world order with in both the Wizarding and muggle worlds. His Reapers he would send out to reap havoc and Chaos in both worlds. And in one of those attacks, her mother was caught up in as she tried to save a few children that simply where in the wrong place wrong time.
When Cardia asked about the Homunculus and Horologium Achaz, Issac sighed knowing that his daughter heard more then he had hoped before she had passed out. Learning that a Homunculus was a being of artificial life that many Alchemist's strive to create, many fail but some are able to do so. Only those who have a clear sense of Alchemy can do so. Another use besides a helper or a surrogate child; a homunculus can be used to house a liquid that it created as one creates the Philosophers store. It is a deadly liquid that added to a normal potion can cause drastic results. If added to a love potion this liquid will cause the love potion to become permanent with no hope for an antidote. It was a nasty side of creating the Philosophers stone.
Cardia and her Father where not sure as to why Grindleward wanted the Horologium Achaz, though they didn't think it was for the better use for the wizarding world. Her Father had reassured her that he would try to pretend to make what the Dark Wizard wanted as a way to protect her. Cardia suspected that the man that visited them was not a incompetent person and would figure out that Issac Beckford was duping him with excuses at one point. When she brought this up Issac dismissed her concerns with a 'we will deal with it when it comes'. Knowing that her father does not intend to max the Horologium Achaz or a Homunculus, he had to make it look like he is.
Once Cardia was settled into a compartment on the Hogwarts Express she was still thinking about what had happened. She wasn't sure if she should tell her friends that she was threatened by the Dark Wizard of her time.
Not the First time.
She was growing used to the strange voice in her head, along with the dreams she would have. With what had happened with her father, she hadn't spoken to him about the voice in her head and the dreams. She figured he had enough to worry about then a child's strange dreams. Pulling out a new book that was just published about strange Alchemy, she decided to wait for her friends to arrive after saying good by to their families. Her friends hadn't found her until after the train had left the station.
"It's strange Alphrad, I mean how is your Aunt younger then you?" Charlus spoke as they opened the compartment door.
"She was a massive surprise to my grandparents." Al deadpanned.
"Come on Potter, you've had the birds and the bees talk haven't you?" Percy laughed as Charlus's face grew red and he sputtered with a response.
"That's not the point, I say its weird." Charlus muttered still clearly embarrassed.
She rolled her eyes at her male friends as the conversed. They all seemed to have grown since she last saw them a few weeks ago. Cardia also noted that they had yet to notice her in the compartment either. Clearing her throat to gain the notice of the group.
"Cardia!" The boys spoke in unison.
"Boys, it is rude to walk into a compartment with out checking that it isn't occupied. What would you be doing if it happened to be Umbridge that you walked in on?" She raised an eyebrow at them.
She knew that the harpy would have demanded an apology among other things. Umbridge thought herself the princess of Ravenclaw and top of the list of the light for many suitors. She had said so when her grandmother invited the toad and her mother over for tea as the girls where in the same house at school. Her grandmother after the Umbridge's left began to berate her about how she behaved towards the other girl.
"Sorry Cardia, we where discussing the First years and Charlus's Logic." Alphrad sat down next to her.
"It's fine, I was just pointing out what might possibly happen if it wasn't me in here." She sighed.
"Well Umbridge the toad harpy would be shrieking at us or she could be trying to get on our good side." Percy spoke in disgust.
"Sometimes she looks like she is eyeing all of us heirs as to see who she can get her nails into." Charlus shuttered.
"She is just as bad as my sister Walburga…" Alphrad said looking at the door to make sure that his sister would appear the moment that he says her name.
To be honest that has happened, even though the girl was younger then him, he was still slightly scared of the 11 year old girl. From the few instances that Cardia spent with the girl, Cardia got the feeling that she was crazy. She was the one that even when her house elf did everything correctly she ordered him to punish him self. It was disgusting to see. The girl even asked if Cardia was a pure-blood as she explained that she didn't believe in the punishment of house elves.
"Al, Burga wont just appear out of thin air because you say her name, logically she cant now as she isn't old enough to apperate." Cardia laughed.
"Cari, you have no idea what she is like, she always seems to know who is talking about her." He sighed still watching the door.
"It's true, I was over there for an afternoon and she bursted in and berated us about talking about a lady when said lady wasn't even included in the conversation." Charlus agreed.
Soon Tom had joined the group along with Prim and they continued to speak about their summer and all the parties they attended. Charlus and Percy laughed to the point that their sides where hurting hearing that Cardia had to attend a many tea parties with her grandmother. When Cardia muttered about how many Ladies tried to get her grandmother to agree to a possible marriage between their son and Cardia, they looked at her as if she had two heads. Prim agreed that it was brought up that Lady Nott was the most persistent about it. Cardia hissed that she would rather be a spinster then marry Nott.
That evening after they parted ways to wait for the first years to be sorted and to eat what has been prepared for the feast. They listened to the Hats song after the first years entered the hall. What no one was ready for was what Headmaster Dippet would be announcing that night. As Cardia and Prim make plans to cause some innocent trouble for Umbridge after the few times they attended tea parties that the toad brought up their odd way of thinking and how they where friends with anyone despite house or blood. This resulted in Cardia's grandmother threatening her father to take her from her home and raise her to be a proper Lady.
Even after the threat that was hanging over her head if her father doesn't seem to do what Grindleward wants. This news was worse, as it will be chaos in both worlds as there are areas all over Britain that would be affected just as the muggle world would be. This news would show that there wasn't as much of a Vail between the two worlds as many thought. Both worlds would suffer loss that they wouldn't expect. The News combined with the knowledge that Grindleward was still at large would cause many to become ruled by fear.
As the Headmaster stepped up to address and congratulate the first years on their sorting and welcome back all those who returned. He looked as though the weight of the world was hanging over him. His robes looked slightly dishevel, Cardia could see the worry that was etched on his face, his eyes where watching everyone carefully.
"Students, Congratulations is needed to all the new students that where sorted into their new homes while they are here. Welcome back to all those who consider this their home. Your houses are like your families, which is what we will be needing more then ever now. Today as you all traveled to our humble school here, news broke across the continent. Those in charge of Muggle Germany had launched an invasion into Poland. I heard from the Liaison between the Ministry and The Government of Muggle Britain, that this was a act of war. I hope that you all see that we need unity in this school and support each other over the next few weeks."
Two days after the announcement the Headmaster had made at the Welcome feast, the head lines in the morning Prophet that was delivered read:
ENGLAND AND FRANCE DECLAIR WAR ON GERMANY!
