Hello Lovs!

Sorry that this update has taken so long to post. I've been working mostly on Aphrodite's Shattered Time, which is nearing its end. Hopefully the long awaited update of this story will be enjoyed by you all. Last Post was the announcement of World War 2 beginning, now see how it effects those that are living at the castle.

Enjoy!

Nearing the end of October in the highs of the Highlands of Scottland brough the chilled Artice winds bellowing across the Black Lake. Making it barely barrable to spend time outside the castle walls. The days began to grow shorter each day that passed, letting everyone know that winter was soon to start. The astronomy classes were able to be held at an earlier time with shorter daylight, meaning that they would be shortly after dinner in the great hall had concluded, much to the dismay of Alphrad Black. The boy loathed when the Professor asked him how the Blacks taught the constellations to their children as most were named after a star or constellation.

The chatter in the great hall about the news of Europe's declaration of war had yet to die down in the castle. Nearly a month after the news, students were still talking about it, even in his own house of Slytherin. Which irritated the nearly 13 year old Tom, who honestly couldn't care what was happening outside the castle. In his mind the war was a muggle issue, not a wizarding world issue. But it apparently was as many students of half-blood and muggle blood decent were worried about their families. Pure Blood families were concerned but not overly, they were of the mindset that they were self-due to protective enchantments on their homes and the fact that they were at Hogwarts, the safest place to be in the Wizarding world.

As the chatter raged on around him while he ate his dinner quietly, Tom found his eyes drawn to the Ravenclaw tale, more specifically to Cardia. The clever girl that became more and more fascinating as he grew to know her. Just recently he began to notice that he could feel her magical presence before he saw her or she announced her presence of her being next to him.

Right now, Tom noted that Cardia had her nose in a book, as she slowly ate her dinner that night. Tom couldn't read what the book title was, but if he had to guess it was an Alchemy book. The girl had taken to reading as many Alchemy books she could from the library that where not in the Restricted section. Tom was sure that Professor Flickwick would write her a note if she asked to look in the Restricted section. But she said once that she wasn't to the point of needing a note. He knew something had happen between the time he left after the Summer Solstice Celebration and when he returned for the last week of the summer. The girl was jumpy when the flue would sound and she was watching her father when he recived the morning owls while they ate. The most notable thing that caught his eye was when Grindelwald was brought up around them.

Cardia would grow pale and try to change the subject, as if talking about him would bring him to their location. Which was laughable as no one could just enter Hogwarts without Headmaster Dippets permission. But he could tell she was spoked by the man enough that she had such a reaction to his name.

"I hope that Beckford learns her place soon." Nott spoke taking Tom's attention from the girl to their conversation.

"It's true, I heard from my father that she eased dropped on a conversation between her father and a powerful man over the summer." Malfoy laughed.

"Oh really?" Nott asked.

"Yes, she got caught and was threatened to an inch of her life by the wizard." Malfoy continued.

"I would have loved to have seen that, she doesn't know when to stop. Mother says that she'll be the laughing stock of society if she doesn't learn to hold her tongue." Parkinson added to the conversation.

Tom knew that the girl had a habit to eased drop, but to be threatened by someone for doing so was a bit out of line of the wizard. No matter how powerful he was, one doesn't threaten a lady from a pure blood family. Knowing this caused Tom's train of thought to derail.

'Maybe it was Grindelwald? That could be why she changes the subject whenever he is brought up.'

Tom thought as he turned his attention back to Cardia. He knew that Malfoy hated the girl longer then anyone. Malfoy wouldn't be above spreading rumors about the girl to ruin her reputation later in life. Maybe he could attempt to show Malfoy that he shouldn't go after someone that Tom considered his. Even though Tom had no idea why he considered the girl his, he knew he considered her a friend at the most. He didn't want anyone to cause any harm to her no matter how annoying she could be when she is in the mood to be.

When her eyes looked up to meet his, he decided that he would threaten Malfoy after he got the whole story from Cardia. If the wizard that threatened her was connected to the Malfoy family, maybe he could use the little fact that he was the heir of Slytherin to his advantage to get close so that he could make sure that the girl was not harmed further. But Tom liked to have all the information first. What Slytherin would run head first into a situation with out facts. Facts that he would need to charm out of the Ravenclaw that kept her secrets close to her and never revealing them to anyone.
