A/N: This one was a literal sudden idea I just had a few minutes and a few nanoseconds ago. Consider it a continuation of chapter 15, as it continues the idea of Petunia being more aware of needing to raise Dudley the right way.
It should have been a proud moment for Petunia Dursley.
Her son Dudley had been accepted into the private school, Smeltings, her husband's Vernon's Alma Mater.
However, there was something bothering Petunia about the prospect of sending Dudley off to Smeltings.
With Dudley playing computer games in his room and having not yet been informed of his acceptance to Smeltings, Petunia sensed an opportunity to change course.
Vernon and Petunia were in the living room sitting on the couch when Petunia piped up, "Vernon, Dudley hasn't seen today's mail yet. I believe Dudley should not go to Smeltings. "
"Why not?" questioned Vernon sharply, "You don't really want Dudders going to Stonewall High, do you?"
"No," admitted Petunia, "And I am more than able and willing to put some time and effort into researching elite private schools to find one I feel comfortable sending Big D to."
"Is your problem with Smeltings the food or the uniform?" Vernon asked Petunia.
"No, although anyone with fashion sense should know maroon tailcoats and orange knickerbockers don't go well together, " replied Petunia, "My issue with Smeltings is actually the Smeltings Sticks."
"The Smeltings Sticks?" asked Vernon.
"Yes, " confirmed Petunia, "The Smeltings Sticks. In what universe is kids hitting each other while the teachers aren't looking anything other than kids assaulting kids?"
"In my time at Smeltings we were told this was supposed to be good training for later life and good to toughen us up a bit," answered Vernon.
"That's what Dudley's acceptance letter said as well, " confirmed Petunia, "And I call BS on it. Smeltings seriously thinks it's not only okay for students to attack each other with no discipline or consequences but proactively gives them a tool to do so?"
"Is something more specific that causes you to not want Dudders to go to Smeltings?" inquired Vernon.
"Kids could seriously get hurt with those damn Smeltings Sticks and I don't want Big D to get a broken arm or leg or even worse in a Malae, " said Petunia seriously, "I also don't want Dudley attending a school that teaches him you can just do whatever the hell you with no regard to how it affects others. The toughness and training for later life are just BS covers to condone bullying and bad behavior."
"Well," said Vernon slowly, "I'm fine with Dudley not going to Smeltings. But he's not going to Stonewall High. I tell you what, Petunia, you do that research you talked about and come to me with your best idea of where to send Dudley."
"I'll get going on that research right now, " smiled Petunia, relieved that Dudley wasn't going to Smeltings after all.
