Ever After High, the school that inspires future fairytales to live their legacies and continue to inspire imagination. Standing in front of the spellbinding castle was Greenly Pea, now fourteen years old. Her brown hair was now long and curled. She wore an off the shoulder green princess gown decorated with gold lace and wore gold shoes. A small gold crown was pinned to her head at a jaunty angle. Despite gazing at her new school, Greenly didn't crack a smile, she kept her expression calm as she fanned herself just like her mother taught her.
With her pea pod purse in her hands and her luggage floaing on a levitating platform, Greenly waited patiently for her escort to show her to her dorm. Greenly wondered what her roommate will be like, she hoped it wasn't going to be another princess, that would be the last thing she would want.
"Ah! There you are!" said a musical sounding voice. It came from a girl who was standing at the top of the school's stairs, waving to Greenly with a big smile. Greenly took one look at her and felt her heart drop. It was the last person she wanted to see.
It was her. The fairest of them all herself, Apple White, daughter of Snow White. She was indeed very beautiful, from her blonde hair to-
Wait a spell. BLONDE hair? Shouldn't it be black hair? Greenly was not expecting that. Apple had skin that was white as snow, enchanting blue eyes, and perfect blood red lips just like her mom, but blonde hair? Maybe she dyed it to try a new look?
"You must be Greenly Pea! Welcome to Ever After High!" Apple greeted as she glided down the stairs, opening her arms as small, chirping birds came around her. Greenly noticed how Apple didn't fall, stumble, or even wobble as she came down. She looked at Greenly directly, while talking, while birds came and perched onto Apple's outstretched arms as she went down the stairs. That was a skill practiced by royalty to do all those things at once. And Apple performed that skill flawlessly.
'She's good.' Greenly noted in her mind. Guess Apple wasn't a slacker when it came to poise and grace. But that doesn't mean Greenly should lower her guard. She was warned by her mother that most royals only pretend to be nice just to keep up apperances. And thank goodness for that, because Greenly saw one too many royals like that from attending tedious balls with her parents.
"I'm truly hexcited to show you around your new home!" Apple said in the most friendly voice as the birds flew away. "I love your outfit!" Her blue eyes twinkled.
Greenly wasn't fazed. She knew people and their opinions on style don't apply to her destiny or her future status as a queen. So, why should they care what they think? Nonetheless, Greenly had to be polite to the future queen of Ever After. "Thank you." she replied calmly.
"Lucky for you, I have your roommate right here!" said Apple.
Greenly was confused. "Whar roommate?" The last thing she wanted was a roommate.
"I'm right here." said a voice right next to Greenly. The princess yelped and nearly fell over, but she quickly composed to herself. She saw her roommate and took two steps back in shock. Greenly's roommate was a girl who looked to be the same age as Greenly. Her skin was pale and sickly, her face dusted with freckles. Her white hair was long and gangly. As for her clothing, it was all black. Tattered black dress, black fishnet stockings, black boots, and black fingernails. But the one feature that made this girl stand out the most were her eyes. They were a striking amber color. Greenly couldn't help but stare at those eyes, she was almost hypnotized as she stared at them.
"Hey! Wake up, princess!" snipped the girl in black. Greenly quickly snapped out of it.
Amber smiled. "This is Amber Spite, she's a fairy."
Fairy?! Greenly took another look at her roommate. She was so distracted by the girl's eyes that she didn't notice her fairy wings either! "Oh! Uh, right! It's...nice to meet you, Amber." Greenly said politely. She had to be polite. She wasn't intimidated by this girl's look, but the fact that this girl was a fairy. And since fairies are creatures made of magic, their feelings are very sensitive. One wrong word and Greenly could end up with a lizard's tail or have her favorite belongings turned into mice.
Amber responded by rolling her eyes, scoffing.
"Now then, I'll show you to your room!" Apple beamed, hardly fazed by Amber's rudeness. The three girls entered the school and it was more grand than Greenly imagined, she was so blown away, she completely forgot about the dark and gloomy disposition of her new roommate. Something about this place actually made the princess feel excited to be here. She saw students chatting to one another, some were decorating their lockers, but they all stopped whatever they were doing and gasped in awe the moment they saw Apple. Everyone fawned and squealed, thrilled to be in her presence. Apple smiled and happily waved to her future subjects. Some boys responded by handing her bouquets of flowers and baskets full of ripe red apples, to which Apple gladly accepted.
Seeing all these people sucking up to Apple made Greenly feel sick. But Greenly had to deal with it. As the future queen of Ever After, it was only natural for Apple to be showered with so much love and attention. Greenly tried not to let it get to her, but she sure wished that she was just as popular, even if it was for a few minutes.
"Who are those girls? And why are they walking with Apple?!" a girl whispered to another girl, who just shrugged.
"That fairy girl looks like a nightmare!" a boy said to another boy.
At the corner of her eye, Greenly spotted two princesses pointing at her, Greenly could hear their whispering. "Is that girl suppose to be a princess?"
"Well, she is wearing a crown, so she must be."
"Yeah, but anyone can wear a crown and claim to be royalty. That Blondie Lockes girl pulled the same stunt yesterday! Can you believe her?! I'll bet this girl is no different."
The more gossiping Greenly heard, the more annoyance bubbled inside her. She just wanted to get out of here, but Apple was still receiving gifts from lovesick boys. Just when Greenly had had enough, a hearty yet bombastic laugh came to her ears. The boys surrounding Apple quickly parted, making a path for the tall and handsome boy walking toward Apple. All the girls, except Greenly and Amber, giggled and swooned as the boy winked and smiled at them.
"Daring!" Apple beamed. She held the boy's hand and her admirers groaned, walking away in defeat. Some still haven't given Apple their gifts yet.
"Oh, man! There's so chance for us now that Daring's here!" a boy sulked, holding a box of chocolates.
"What did you expect? He is Apple's future hubby after all."
"We can't compete with a Charming, especially Daring!"
Greenly looked at Daring. Sure, he wasn't that bad looking. Short blonde hair that was well kept, beautiful blue eyes, a perfect jaw and a strikingly charming smile. He was the perfect image for a fairytale prince. Greenly couldn't help but sigh, not in a lovesick way, but in a sad way. She knew that her Prince Charming won't come until her story began. She would get lost on a cold and rainy night where she arrives at the prince's castle, who tests her to see if she is a real princess by having her sleep on a bed covered by huge mattresses and twenty feather beds with a pea underneath all of them. The next morning, Greenly will wake up from a sleepless night due to feeling that annoying pea jabbing her in the back, ending up with a nasty bruise. Proving to have the sensitiviy of a true princess, she and her prince will be married and live happily ever after. The End.
That was it. The whole story. As Greenly thought about it, she became more depressed. It's no wonder her story was so unpopular, there was nothing exciting about it.
"What's this?" said Daring, snapping Greenly out of her thoughts. She looked at Daring, flashing his smile, which was getting kind of annoying. "This damsel shouldn't have such a sad face in my presense." He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out an autograped picture of himself. "You're very welcome." He gave Amber a picture too and swaggered away.
"Oh, Daring." Apple said, shaking her head. "He's always like that. But you'll get used to it like I did, I can never stay mad at my future king." She put her hands on her heart and sighed lovingly, batting her perfectly flawless eyelashes.
Amber looked at Greenly. She was still holding Daring's picture, but she didn't adoringly gaze at it. To her confusion, the princess was stone faced, her eyes cold.
"Okay! We better get you to the dorms!" chirped Apple.
"Finally!" Amber replied. "Sheesh..."
After a few turns and a few winding towers, Greenly and Amber arrived at their dorm room at last. "Here we are!" said Apple. "Amber, your luggage has been delivered right over there!" She pointed to the left side of the room where several black trunks were laying on the floor. "So, Greenly, this is your side of the room."
Greenly looked at her side of the room. There was a canopied bed and a window with a balcony. "Every princess needs a balcony to greet their animal friends!" Apple noted. "Well, I'll let you two get settled in. If you have any questions, just ask me or the teachers!" She sang a happy little tune as she waltzed out the door. Greenly calmly closed the door.
A few moments later, Greenly let out a huge shout of anger and kicked the wall.
"WHOA!" Amber shouted. She was completely caught off guard by Greenly's outburst. "Are you nuts?! What's the matter with you?!"
"Her!" Greenly pointed to the door. "Apple! Daring! Everything in this stupid school is the matter with me! I've been here no less than an hour and I already hate this place! Having to put up with all these stuffy royals is going to be a nightmare!"
Amber blinked. "But...you're a royal."
"Just because I'm a royal doesn't mean I need to act like a snob, show off my looks or have an obnoxious fan club to show how superior I am!" Greenly took out her picture of Daring and tore it up into tiny pieces. She threw the destroyed picture in the air like confetti. "Royals are all the same, they're just a bunch of stuck-up little rich kids. Just thinking about it makes me want to puke!"
Amber saw how angry Greenly was. She felt the hatred in her words. Never did the young fairy expect this from a princess. "Huh. You and I actually agree on something. I hate royals because of that exact same reason." Amber admitted, making Greenly look at her. "I think we're off to a good start." The fairy looked around. "Y'know, I was going to go hang out by myself, but...I think I can trust you."
"Why me?" asked Greenly.
"Well, judging by how those kids were talking about me in the hallway, there's a good chance I won't be able to make any friends. And since we're roommates, you're going to be the closest thing to a friend I'll ever have."
"You really want me as a friend?" asked Greenly, feeling a sense of hope.
Amber shrugged. "Sure, why not?" She managed to smile a little. "So, you want to kick off this friendship in style?"
Greenly knew she didn't need friends, but she didn't want to offend this fairy. "That depends. What did you have in mind?" She saw Amber's smile grow. She saw her roommate reach into her pocket and pull out a black and silver key.
Amber's eyes flashed as she held up the key. "Something epic."
