Amber, Raven, and Maddie were at the Beanstalk Bakery, enjoying some frappuccinos. "Mmm! Nothing beats hocus pocus hazelnut!" said Amber after taking a sip. "It's too bad Lizzie and Kitty rushed off to play croquet."
"Totally." said Raven, enjoying her salted caramel cupcake. "Lizzie demanded to play some croquet and boom, Bentley takes her to the bookball field to play."
"Yeah, Bentley can't resist helping a pretty face." Amber rolled her eyes.
"Well, I just can't wait for the school year to start!" Maddie said with glee.
"Yeah, you're so lucky, Maddie!" said Amber. "It must be awesome being the next Mad Hatter! The fun, the riddles, the wacky tea parties, it's like a non-stop party!"
Maddie beamed. "You bet your crumpets it is! What about you, Amber? What's your story?"
SLAM!
Someone's hand hit the girls' table. Amber looked up and saw Faybelle Thorn, her nemesis and least favorite cousin. "She doesn't know what story she's from or what her destiny is." Faybelle curved her lips into a perfect villainous smile. "She probably won't even play a big role in a big story. Unlike me."
"Excuse you?" Amber stood up and looked Faybelle straight in the eye. "Just because you're a villain, doesn't mean you know everything, Faybelle."
"And just because you changed your look, doesn't mean you're hot stuff, Amber." Faybelle quipped. "You're still a nobody."
Raven stood as well. "I think you're just jealous because Amber is prettier than you."
Faybelle turned her cold glare to Raven. "What was that?"
"Yeah, Faybelle." said Raven. "Amber is prettier than you and you know it. Jealousy is an ugly emotion and it always comes back to bite you. Just ask my mom."
Amber laughed as she admired the irked look on Faybelle's face. "Oh, yeah! I can see it all now! 'Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Why is my ego so big and my brain so small?'" Amber poked Faybelle's forehead.
Faybelle smacked Amber's hand away from her head. "That's it!" She gathered crackling blue magic in her hands. "Maybe a little dark magic will make you know your place!" She blasted her magic at Amber, but for some strange reason, the magic fizzled and faded away before it touched Amber. "What the hex?!"
Amber gave a knowing smile. She reached into her shirt and pulled out a necklace with a glowing blue stone from under her shirt. "Like it? It's a blue moonstone pendant. Perfect for repelling dark magic."
"WHAT?!" Faybelle's eyes grew wide as two spinning wheels. "No way! How did a nobody like you get something that rare?!"
"It pays to have a princess friend who's practical when it comes to birthday gifts." Amber humblebragged. "Of course, you wouldn't know anything about that since, well, y'know, your little curse and all."
Faybelle's eyes flashed with rage.
"What curse?" asked Maddie.
"Oh? You don't know? Faybelle's side of the family is cursed to never be invited to anything. Always left out, never part of the crowd. Not that it makes much of a difference, really." Amber explained ever so smugly.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Faybelle's words were dipped in her anger.
"Well, duh. You're obviously evil and proud of it, which normally makes people avoid you and not invite you to anything. So, it wouldn't make a difference if you were cursed or not. Because once upon a time, you decided to be a villain. And everyone knows that villains always end up the losers in every story."
Raven felt the sting of Amber's words because they were true. Despite her mother's powerful magic, she does end up the loser. Not just in the story of Snow White, but real life too. She looked at Faybelle. She definitely saw the rage in the dark fairy's eyes. But she also saw a hint of tears. Guess even Faybelle felt the regret of being evil. But Faybelle was able to keep her tears inside and fly away.
Amber stood triumphant like a brave knight who slayed a fierce dragon. "Well, looks like I showed her! She didn't even say anything. She just flew off with her tail tucked between her legs!"
"Uh, Amber, I don't think you should have said that." Raven said. "I know Faybelle can be wicked, which is exactly why you shouldn't press her buttons too hard."
"Oh, please. Faybelle and I are family. We've bickered like this for years. It's like a game of catch. She throws, I catch, Reverse, repeat. And when one of us runs out of ammo, we call it quits and play another day. It's no big deal, really." Amber patted Raven's shoulder. "Let sleeping dogs lie, girlfriend."
Raven nodded, but she was still shocked by Amber's bitterness. Amber seemed like such a nice, friendly girl. But that air of arrogance, the callousness in her tone, that look of satisfaction seeing Faybelle so hurt. That kind of evil reminded her of, well, her mother.
Maybe Amber is destined to be a villain...
Just then, someone walked passed Amber and stepped on her foot. "OW! HEY!"
The culprit stopped walking and spun around, looking surprised. "Oh crud! I'm so sorry!" It was a boy who was as tall as Amber. He had tan skin, black curly hair, and some facial hair on his chin. He wore shabby blue jeans, brown shoes, and a white t-shirt with a print of a red windmill on it. Amber also noticed the clearly visible mustard stain on his shirt as well. "I didn't mean to hurt-whoa!" The boy gaped when he saw this incredibly gorgeous fairy.
Amber wanted to flex her evil-tude, but she decided to cool it. Otherwise, she'd be sinking to Faybelle's level. "I'm fine. Who are you?"
"I'm Dave, Dave Quixote." the boy named Dave smiled. There was some slight blushing in his cheeks. "Um, you um, do you go to Ever After High?"
"Yeah."
Dave's eyes lit up. "Really?! So do I!" he said excitedly. He managed to calm himself. "I mean, uh, yeah, that's cool. So, um, you...pumped for Legacy Day?" He gave two thumbs up with a cheesy grin.
Amber wasn't sure how to respond. Not because of Dave's grin, but because she was a little anxious about Legacy Day. Was she really going to be some short story while Faybelle lives in infamy as a main character? "Uh, yeah, sure." She waved goodbye. "See ya." She went back to her table with Maddie and Raven.
"You okay, Amber?" asked Raven.
"Yeah, I'm good." But Amber wasn't good. "So, um, who's up for some burgers?"
'OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" Lizzie Hearts shouted as she swung her flamingo-shaped croquet mallet. Her, Bentley, and Kitty were at the sports field playing Wonderland croquet. Bentley watched in amazement as Lizzie's ball went through several wickets and reached the goal.
"Wow! You're the best croquet ever, Lizzie!" said Bentley. Being a 'gentleman', he volunteered to be both Lizzie and Kitty's croquet caddies.
"I know." Lizzie replied. "We must have Headaster Grimm allow Wonderland croquet as a competitive sport! I mean, whoever after heard of a school without Wonderland croquet?!"
"Hey! Bentley!" shouted an annoying voice. Groaning, Bentley looked over and saw Sparrow Hood with his Merry Men. "Are you still simping for a girlfriend, Blue boy? Try not to lose your head!" Sparrow taunted. His flunkies laughed as Sparrow laughed. A croquet ball suddenly hit Sparrow right between the eyes, rendering him unconscious. He fell as his group looked in shock.
Everyone turned to Lizzie, the one who hit the ball at Sparrow. She shot a death glare at the Merry Men. "Could you open your mouths a little wider?" she asked. "I want to make a clear shot down your throats..."
Panicking, the two goons carried Sparrow's body and ran for dear life.
Kitty clapped her hands. "Another good game, Liz."
"I'll say!" said Bentley. "So, uh, Kitty, after his you want to Hocus Latte-"
"Oops! I just remembered that I'm due for a catnap!" Kitty said, grinning a Cheshire smile. She vanished, leaving her only her grin before it vanished too.
"Uh, okaaay." Bentley cleared his throat. "Lizzie, maybe we can-"
"OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" Lizzie shouted as she sent another ball soaring across the field. She dropped her mallet. "I'm going back to the Hatter's Tea Shop." And she briskly walked away.
Bentley sighed, dropping the croquet equipment. As the next Little Boy Blue, he had to play the part in his lame story. But with all the beautiful girls at Ever After High, Bentley decided to create his own destiny, one that he was proud to do. And that new destiny was to find the perfect girl, fall in love, and have a happily ever after so great, that it really will feel like magic. He would always think of Apple White and Daring Charming; the school's most perfect couple, even though they weren't a couple; a fact that always confused Bentley. If you're going to close the deal and be together forever after, then start dating already!
"I sure wish I could get a date..." Bentley muttered to himself. This was going to be his second year of high school and he still had no girlfriend. High school was, in Bentley's mind, the road to manhood and finding the right girl was the goal. He tried asking out almost every girl in school and had always struck out. Maybe he should talk to Headmaster Grimm about taking Advanced Wooing class? It was worth a shot.
But for now, Bentley was all alone. So, he figured this was a good time for a little distraction to take his mind off his problems.
In the Enchanted Forest, Bentley wandered down a dirt path, holding a black trumpet case in his hand. He admired the warm sunshine and friendly birds flying by. Bentley came to a clearing in the woods and set his case on the warm grass. He opened it and took out a trumpet. He put his lips to the instrument and started playing. His fingertips seemed to dance as his music filled the forest. All the nearby animals stopped and watched Bentley play.
When Bentley stopped. He took a dep sigh of relief.
"Bravo!" a voice shouted, followed by the sound of clapping. "Bravo!"
Bentley jolted. That wasn't just any voice. It was a girl's voice! He looked around, but couldn't find anyone.
"Up here!"
Bentley looked up. He completely froze, his trumpet fell out of his hands. A girl, the most beautiful girl Bentley had ever seen was floating down from the sky with her ivory feathered wings. When her feet touched the ground, Bentley took in more of her enchanting beauty. Long and wavy, pink hair. Blue eyes that were clear as a baby's eyes. Flawless skin that made her look angelic.
'It's an angel.' Bentley thought. 'An angel has blessed me with her presence.'
"Uh, are you okay?" asked this radiant angel.
"Huh? Oh! Uh, y-yeah! Yeah! I'm good!" Bentley tried not to look like a dunce in front of her.
"Your music is amazing! You sound just like a pro!" said the pink haired angel. "What's your name?"
"Bentley Blue!" Bentley answered right away. "Son of Little Boy Blue."
The girl smiled. "Cool! I'm C.A. Cupid."
Bentley blinked. "C.A.?"
"It's short for Chariclo Arganthone." She rolled her blue eyes. "Whatever-after. Since that's a stretch, everyone just calls me Cupid." She extended her hand. "Nice to meet you, Bentley."
Bentley was eager to shake her hand. But he remembered that a woman always appreciate a delicate touch. So, he shook her hand softly. "Nice to meet you too, Cupid." Bentley was amazed by Cupid's soft, smooth hands. "Are you new here?"
"Yep! I start at Ever After High this year!" Cupid smiled her pink lips. "Think you can show me around here?"
Bentley screamed with joy. In his head, of course. "Sure." he answered, cool as ice magic.
Since Ian had lost track of his friends and the Wonderland ladies, he decided to do a little pickpocketing around Book end. With his pockets full of stolen goods, he decided to enjoy his spoils at the troll bridge. He sat by the water and spotted the big troll that always hung out under the bridge. Ian handed him a stolen chocolate bar. The troll gave a thumbs up and kept lookout while Ian opened a stolen bottle of soda.
"Well, it's Legacy Year. Whoopee." Ian droned. He took a long sip of soda and belched. Not surprisingly, Ian couldn't care less about Legacy Day. In fact, he couldn't care less about anything since not a lot of people cared about him. When you're destined to be a lying sheperd who gets attacked by a wolf, you don't exactly win a lot of popularity contests since you can't be trusted. But when Ian and Bentley met in spellementary school, Ian was able to make his first and only friend. Because of Bentley's easy-going attitude, he didn't mind Ian's family history or his kleptomania at all.
Ian had always thought that Bentley was the only friend he needed. But when he met Greenly and Amber, more accepting friends, he felt even better about himself. But would things change after they graduated? After Greenly's story, she will become a queen busy with royal responsibilities, Bentley will perform his music all over the world after his story, and Amber, well, Amber's destiny is unknown and undeclared.
But Ian, he knows his story. But he wasn't really interested in taking over his father's business. He wanted something more in his life. But what?
Ian sighed, maybe a bathroom break will help him think better. He decided to go into the woods since nature's calling. Plus, the nearest bathroom was miles away and Ian was exhausted from sneaking around with all his stealing. But when he tried to find a good spot, a red blur slammed right into him.
"OW! Watch it, nitwit!" Ian snapped.
"Who're you callin' nitwit?!" snapped the voice of Cerise Hood. She fixed her hood as she glared daggers at Ian.
"What's your deal, Hood? Tryin' to run away from the Big Bad Wolf?" Ian sneered.
Cerise growled. She actually growled a Ian. Ian looked a little spooked. Cerise cleared her throat. "W-Whatever-after!" And she dashed back into the forest.
Ian had to admit, he was a little shook up from that growl. Cerise almost sounded like...a real animal. But Ian shrugged it off. He looked down at his closed hand. A wicked smile grew on his face. He opened his hand, revealing Cerise's locket. He chuckled. "No one bumps into me without a price." He admired the quality Cerise's locket. "Nice silver. This should fetch a decent price." On a whim, he opened the locket.
It felt like Ian's eyes had exploded when he saw the picture inside.
The sun was beginning to set. Greenly, Dexter, and Darling had just left Shooting Stars Arcade. "I can't believe you beat our high scores on Beanstalk Storm, Greenly!" Dexter said, amazed. "You even beat Daring's score!" He laughed. "When you beat his score like that, his face turned whiter than his teeth!"
"Daring was pretty bummed, but he'll get over it." said Darling.
"Yeah, he just needs a look in the mirror and he'll bounce right back." Greenly said. The Charming siblings couldn't agree more. "It sure does stink that summer's will be over soon."
"Well, you just have to take the good with the bad." Darling admitted. "That's life."
Greenly spotted Amber, Ian, and Bentley at the bench where they agreed to meet. "There are the guys. I'll see you guys!"
The Charmings said their goodbyes and parted ways with Greenly. The princess rushed to meet her friends. But when she got there, she saw her friends with odd expressions on their faces. Amber looked depressed. Bentley was grinning like a goon. And Ian was completely stone-faced. "Hey. You guys okay?"
"Huh?" Amber looked up to see her best friend. "Oh, uh, hey, Greenly. We're good."
"Yeah..." Bentley sighed lovingly.
Ian nodded mutely.
"Hey, I know you guys are bummed that summer's over. But we'll still get to have fun together at school." Greenly reminded them. "Sure, with Legacy Year, it's gonna be an adventure. But as long as we stick together, I know we'll be fine."
Greenly's words struck a chord within her friends. They all looked at the princess with hope in their eyes.
"Yeah, you're right. Green." Amber smiled. "We'll be fine. After all, we are Team Fairy Fire!"
"Whaaat?! We need a better friend group name than that." said Ian. "How about Storybook Squad?"
"Lame! Sounds like a book club." Bentley said. "How about...Team...Super...Coolness...?"
"Nah." they all said together.
Greenly thought carefully. "How about...the Fairytale Four?"
Amber snapped her fingers. "Now that's cool!" She wings lifted her above her friends' heads. "This year, things are going to be different, you guys! Not just because of Legacy Year, but because of us! We'll take this school by storm! We'll kick but together!" She high-kicked the air.
Bentley raised his fists up. "We'll be superstars together!"
"We'll pull the best pranks together!" Ian cheered.
"We'll be legends in our own time!" Greenly cheered as well. "If we're going to seal our fates in the Storybook of Legends, then let's be as awesome as we can! Nothing can stop the Fairytale Four!"
"YEAAAAAAAH!" The Fairytale Four cheered their best battle cries, startling nearby people.
Greenly saw the setting sun on on the horizon. She pointed a finger at the cotton candy clouds. "Look out, Ever After High!" Greenly cried out. "This is gonna be the most legendary year of our lives!"
